Good morning! Isn't it a beautiful day?
Well, no, but the temp isn't supposed to go over 100 today, tho' the heat index will still get to 110. But I bought a 6' X 10' inflatable pool, so who cares?
Did Monty stop doing his morning (or is it mouring?) econ report all together, or is he taking a break?

I don't remember him so much in any of the old shows. Just when he took Gomer's place at the service station.
It wasn't long after that when a lot of the old regulars were bailing and it just went downhill.

MANCHESTER, Conn. – Omar Thornton sat calmly in a meeting with union representative and his supervisors as they showed a video of him stealing beer from the distributor where he worked.
Busted, he didn't put up a fight, company officials said. He quietly signed a letter of resignation and was headed for the door when he pulled out a gun and started firing — "cold as ice," as one survivor described it.
In the end, Thornton killed eight people, injured two, then turned the gun on himself in a rampage Tuesday at Hartford Distributors that union and company officials said they would not have anticipated from someone with no history of complaints or disciplinary problems.
Yet relatives say Thornton, 34, finally cracked after suffering racial harassment in a company where he said he was singled out for being black in a predominantly white work force.
Well if he killed a bunch of racist crackas it must be alright then

Gone? Yeh, where gone = invisible.
“The fact that this oil is ‘invisible’ makes it no less of a danger to the Gulf’s fragile ecosystems. Quite the contrary, the danger is real and the danger is much more difficult to quantify, track and assess.”

The website, khabaronline.ir, said the grenade detonated near Ahmadinejad's convoy as he was on his way to address a crowd in the western Iranian town of Hamedan but did not harm him.
Pity. I doubt it was an attack though. Look at the picture. If somebody wanted to take Adinnerjacket out, a decent sniper would have sufficed.

Unfortunately, when a people go from cradle to grave harboring a grievance mentality and an inbred sense of entitlement, it can create a recipe for disaster.

I remember another guy named Thornton.
Cookie Thornton.
The guy who went into the Kirkwood, MO city hall and killed five people.
His family cried racism, too.
Turns out he was a failed businessman, up to his ears in debt including to the IRS (a part of the story that never gets reported). But it was easier to claim racism and blame the people he killed for all his troubles.
Much like this Thornton.

As a side point...in the past decade, we have worldwide terrorist conspiracies pulling off spectacular attacks, criminal masterminds pilfering billions, massive shadowy groups manipulating media, and crackpot madmen developing superweapons. When, I ask, do the over-the-top heroes get on the clock to take down these menaces to humanity?
It's like being in a bad James Bond pastiche, where someone forgot to write a good guy in...

Agree. The show was never the same without Barney...my favorite character. Strangely enough, color did ruin it as well. It ushered in a time when Andy lost his sense of jocularity and good natured manner. He came across as irritated. Another litmus test for the Fall of The Andy Griffith Show was the introduction to Howard, with the final nail being Warren.
This concludes my brief take on the rise and fall of The Andy Griffith Show. You may resume.

I haven't. As an experiment, I've only been keeping up on the Caller's JournoList stories via links from the righty opinionators I read, all of whom issued their summing-up-the-Caller's-JournoList-story articles on the first Friday of the series, before all the dispatches from the front were in. Then they completely dropped the subject. Just like I said they would. It sucks to be right.
And thanks for the pointer.

And that guy, whatever his name was, polluted more sitcoms & variety shows in the '60s than anyone except fat comic Marty whatshisname. Huh? Yeah? Huh? Yeah? As a 10 yr old, I would have gladly shot Warren.

After shooting his co-workers, Thornton hid as police moved in. He called his mother, who tried for 10 minutes to talk him out of killing himself, his uncle Will Holliday told reporters.
"He said, 'I killed the five racists that was there that was bothering me,'" Holliday said. "He said, 'The cops are going to come in so I am going to take care of myself.'"
Brett Hollander, whose family owns the distributor, denied any racial bias. And a union official said Thornton had not filed a complaint of racism with the union or any government agency.
"I can assure you there has never been any racial discrimination at our company," Hollander said.
Teamsters official Christopher Roos said, "This is a disgruntled employee who shot a bunch of people."
By next week Eric Holder should be filing a racial discrimination law suit against the company.

Last Man Standing was a remake of Yojimbo. So was Fistful of Dollars.
I watched part of it with a cute coworker in the back room at the video store I worked at. It's awkward that Bruce Willis is attacked in bed, kills all of his attackers, and puts some clothes on, in that order.
Mifune and Eastwood are both inscrutible, but that is somehow likeable. Mifune seems like a harbinger of doom wiping the town clean.

The worst shows:
Howard Sprague goes full homo on a Caribbean island and invites the local males to cavort with him at a picnic on the beach
Howard Sprague's mom moves out and he turns the place into a bachelor pad. Merely hinted at homo.

By my count, the USA is batting 10 for 16:
1. Control of public information and opinion
2. Vote fraud used to prevent the election of reformers
3. Undue official influence on trials and juries
4. Usurpation of undelegated powers
11. Creation of a class of officials who are above the law
12. Increasing dependency of the people on government
14. Use of staged events to produce popular support
15. Conversion of rights into privileges
16. Political correctness

Readers who read my original Washington Examiner post about Shirley Sherrod know that she and husband Charles received $150,000 each for "pain and suffering” as part of "a thirteen million dollar settlement in the minority farmers law suit Pigford vs Vilsack."
Based on history presented by Ron Wilkins yesterday at Counterpunch, it's appropriate to ask: "Whose pain and suffering?"
Wilkins, who says he is "a former organizer in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee" and is currently a professor at California State University Dominguez Hills, in the Africana Studies Department, writes: "I know this story well, for I was one of those workers at NCI."Here is some of what Wilkins describes:
Imagine farm workers doing back breaking labor in the sweltering sun, sprayed with pesticides and paid less than minimum wage. Imagine the United Farm Workers called in to defend these laborers against such exploitation by management. Now imagine that the farm workers are black children and adults and that the managers are Shirley Sherrod, her husband Rev. Charles Sherrod, and a host of others. But itÂ’s no illusion; this is fact.
... What most of Mrs. Sherrod’s supporters are not aware of is the elitist and anti-black-labor role that she and fellow managers of New Communities Inc. (NCI) played. These individuals under-paid, mistreated and fired black laborers–many of them less than 16 years of age–in the same fields of southwest Georgia where their ancestors suffered under chattel slavery.

Come to find out their claim was that I was racially insensitive because they (female employee) overheard me discussing golf and I had said that Tiger Woods had sold his soul to the devil. The Last Man Standing would not cross a certain line, though he'd play evil forces against each other for profit.
Point being, the over-the-top heroes have to be us as united citizens, imperfect as we are, united on the Constitution.
Hollywood assassinated Superman while Washingtonians burned the Constitution, as if they could. Americans must realize that our fate is in our own hands. It's a matter of insisting, not backing down when Washington's Marxist feds and their employee minions roar for our submission.
The plain boy David, with intent faith directed through practiced action from the delivery of a pebble on target impact, took out the well armed though uncircumcised filthy Philistines' giant, turning the magnificent enemy's army to retreat as the reinvigorated Israeli army enjoyed the chase.
We have faith in our Constitution, and we are well practiced acting through votes, calls, publishing, and now effectively protesting in person at government meetings and in Washington DC. We need to all gather within each state and together as states and thwart the federal destruction of America.
The necessary 73% collective protest from taxpaying American citizens is gathering together against our completely corrupted and bankrupting federal government. Our states are speaking loud and clear; Arizona on citizenship, Missouri to defeat ObamaCare...and the rest must join in to barrage the feds from all sides until they submit to Constitutional rule of law. WE maintain our Constitutional Governance together. We must believe and act to deliver our determination. That is what our founding fathers with all those American farmers and townspeople forged together to accomplish with the help of Providence. And the American Revolution was most brutal requiring everyone's sacrifice, including the authoritarians who lost.
Make the Marxists pay for their own crimes against the Constitution, rule of law, and natural rights. Demand Prosecution of Congressional members, this Obama administration, and remove judges from the bench who refuse to acknowledge the Constitution as the supreme law of our land, who refuse to administer blind justice that treats all people equal under the law.

By nationalizing health care, they make it a privilege. Only the rich and those in the government can access the highest quality care. Everyone else gets the "same" care.
Posted by: Ludicrous Speed at August 04, 2010 07:08 AM (LdYLm)
Actually that is more "orwellian newspeak". They tell you they are giving you new "rights" but in actuality they are taking freedom away.
Every time they do one of those new rights you will find that it increases the power of the government and it lessons your ability to do something without interference.

@83 - numbers 7, 8, and 10 have all happened also.
Growing up, I remember the old IBM joke:
How can you tell an IBM salesman is lying?
His lips are moving.
I always thought that was kind of funny until Obama ran for president. Now I have spent the last three years teaching my children about propaganda, how to recognize it and see it for what it is. It's a critical thinking skill I hope doesn't cost them in the future where it may make them stand out from the crowd.
I remember my Social Studies classes in junior high covering that, but strangely enough today's public schools never seem to find the time K-12.
