WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama is sending best wishes to Muslims worldwide as they celebrate Eid-al-Fitr (ayd ahl-FIH'-tur), which marks the end of the holy month of fasting and prayer known as Ramadan (RAH'-mah-dahn).
Obama also appealed for donations for victims of devastating floods in Pakistan.
Obama said the Muslim holiday is a time to reflect on the importance of religious tolerance and to honor the positive role all religions have played in American life.
I don't remember Barry giving any best wishes for Easter or Christmas. And since he gave this message yesterday did he also say something for Rosh Hashana ? Besides fuck all y'all?

Yesterday on the ONT, Maet had a link to a great article on how anti american, and plainly stupid, the german media is.
Please read this article. It would be hilarious if this wasn't the way Germans thought of us.
the most interesting parts are about Glenn Beck.
They clearly don't realize that Right wing in America is not at all like Right wing in germany.
One is about the constitution and liberties, the other is about Jews, ovens, and racial superiority.

This is a choice paragraph from the article in Der Speigel. Keep in mind Der Speigel isn't a left wing publication. it is kinda in the middle.
Further cause for concern for such groups is the depths to which political debate has sunk in the US, with Tea Party activists setting the tone. This ultra-conservative movement wants to return the country to the ideas of its white and mostly Christian founders. Tea Party extremists are currently the driving force in the Republican Party, and have Democrats on the defensive two months before important midterm elections.

One more thing about this. If he's all about honoring the positive role all religions have played in American life how come he had the Catholic symbols covered up when he went to Georgetown because they would be offensive.

Posted by: TheQuietMan at September 10, 2010 09:21 AMVery appropriate, given the approach of the 9/11 anniversary.
If the Mohammedan Mouthpiece had been in charge nine years ago, we would have been subjected to calls for "understanding" the poor, downtrodden hijackers. Hitlery Clinton would have told us diplomacy was the only answer. OBL would have been invited the the White House Eid-a-palooza.
If tomorrow does anything, it should strengthen America's resolve to fight back and destroy the threat of Muzzie extremists.
We all owe a big "fuck you!" to Rauf and his thinly disguised threats that the Muzzies will come after us if we don't let the GZ mosque be built.
It's still not to late to punish those in the M.E. who supported and encouraged the attacks on us. Reducing Riyadh and Tehran to plains of glass would be a good start.
But we won't, of course. The Traitor-in-Chief will mouth arrogant platitudes and give aid and comfort to our Muzzie foe. He will spit in America's face again.

That's just stupid. The majority of New Yorkers are opposed to the mosque. That the political process was co-opted by the radical apologists for Islam is a valid criticism of New York's apathy in regard to the system, but that criticism also applies to the country as a whole. Most of the country is against health care reform, but we got it anyway. Are you going to say the same thing about the entire country?
As for the next time things go boom? If that's your attitude, we don't need your help.

Ben @9, You're right, Euros have a hard time with that right/left thing -- in more ways than one. Who's the wiseguy who ever imported the French Revolution's political definitions into American discourse, anyway? I'd bet it was a metric proponent. Or Jefferson. He had a soft spot for that stuff.
And what's with these five "Estates"? European political thought is perpetually stalled in the hard transition from Roman slavery to feudalism. "Tradition" means something a lot different in a place where the dissolution of empire was followed by four or so centuries of Dark Age. No personal ownership, no open hunting, no national identity without tribalism, and their last frontier involved Charlemagne slaughtering ("forcibly converting") Saxons. A hell of a place, really. It's a wonder anything is left standing.

By way of contrast, here is what "tolerance" has gotten the Germans. There's a significant part of the German population that is very resentful of the Muslim community's insular nature. The US may not be far behind Europe in this regard. Someone, somewhere in the not so distant future is going to light the fuse on that powder keg and it will be ugly, much uglier than it already is.

Laura,
Yeah that was a great line. The whole article is hilarious. It is unbelievable, yet at the same time all too believable.
We conservatives often complain about how our media is biased against conservatives and makes it harder for us to win elections or get a fair shake when exchanging ideas. However, we often neglect the anti-americanism of our media and its affect on how foreigners view us.
I guess if i was from another country and only going CNN International, I too would think the Tea Party's were essentially a white supremicists group.

That bothers me not at all. They (our critics on the left) have nade that label meaningless, and the teaparty more determined than ever. At my teaparty meeting last night, we had a local Democrat come to speak to us, essentially begging us not to associate her with Pelosi, Reid, and da Zero. Spent her 15 minutes telling us how hard she worked for us. Everyone was polite to her, but she got no votes from that group.

I used to have a bumper sticker on my car back in college that said, "The EU, reminding us why our ancestors got the hell out."
by the way, i highly suggest the article Maet linked to in last nights ONT. It really opened my eyes. I didn't realize it was a universal german problem. I had two history teacher in college who were germans, and they spend most of their time comparing us to the nazis, but subtely. Like one would end class by saying, "What is the difference betweeen Gitmo and Concentration Camps". But he would do it as class was leaving, so there couldn't be any real debate.
After reading the article Maet linked to, I realized it is like they are reading off some script they were given at birth to be used in case they ran into an American.

Expensive burning the kindle. And Jones got a permit? I heard the town denied him one. If (or when) he burns those Korans, he will get fined. Then, a la Phelps, he will sue (or the church) for violation of his civil rights, and he could very well win, since time, place and manner limitations on free speech. Unless the burning actually creates a real danger, teh denial of the fire permit could be a violation of Jones (or the church's) civil rights. I would not be surprised to see some of the Phelps clan giving him legal support.
