'We can't say Iran is pursuing nukes without evidence'

UNITED NATIONS — Turkish President Abdullah Gul will call for a Middle East totally free of nuclear weapons when he addresses the UN General Assembly later this week, he told the Associated Press in an interview on Monday.

In the end, there will be only chaos.

All I have to say is that it is certainly a good thing the we have a lefty in the office of President.  I mean, can you imagine if a Repub was in office now?

We'd be pummled every day about the disasterous handling of the gulf spill and the Kentucky floods (you forgot about those, didn't you), all of the golf outings, the excessive travel on the taxpayer dime, the obvious incompetence in foreign policy.   Hell, could you imagine the crap that would have been in the wind had say, Laura Bush been caught up in that miniature cat fight with the French first lady?  Cripes we'd still be hearing about how poorly that was handled and the stupidity of the first lady.

At least now, we can relax and leisurely watch the crap flow under the bridge.

Barry,  we luv ya man!

Traffic looked like it was a real mess on Sunday.

We were up in south Salt Lake on Sat night -- dinner at a place called Tiburon in Sandy (very good!).

Maybe we can start talking dates for the meetup at some point, even if it's just a couple of us.  Eager to learn more about SLC.

Is there anything worth doing/seeing/eating/drinking in Snowbird?

Got home from work yesterday evening and noticed that someone had stolen all of my yard signs. Being of raging hot hair trigger temper, I was a bit peeved. They were also stupid enough to leave a door flier on my door from a woman who is running for state rep. as a Democrat and lives in my neighborhood. Went on the the local GOP headquarters to do volunteer work and noticed on the way that all of the GOP yard signs had been stolen as well as mine. When I got to the headquarters there was a man there loading up on yard signs. We asked him if his yard signs had been stolen and he said yes. He also turned out to be from my neighborhood. I did my volunteer work and then loaded up on yard signs which I promptly installed in my front yard.

Then I went to the website listed on the woman's flier and sent her an email about my signs and her flier, and mentioned that I would be relating the story to the next Teaparty meeting this Thursday. The woman had previously been to our meeting to ask for votes. I allowed in the email that the Teaparty would be interested to know what kind of people worked on her campaign.

When my daughter got home from the gym, she said that someone had destroyed the lady's mailbox and left the pieces in the street.

This kind of thing can quickly escalate out of control. I wonder if she is stupid enough to let it.

China is playing a dangerous game here - giving an Islamic power more nuclear tools to play with.

China confirms two nuclear reactors for Pakistan

BEIJING, Sept 21
(Reuters) - China on Tuesday gave its firmest government confirmation yet of plans to build two new nuclear reactors for Pakistan, but a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said she did not know about talks over a bigger reactor deal.

The spokeswoman Jiang Yu said China plans to help Pakistan expand its Chashma nuclear energy complex in Punjab by building two reactors in addition to one already operating and another nearing completion.

If Pakistan is good enough for nuclear energy, why aren't we?

/Oh, did I say that in the end, there will be only chaos?

17 Interesting headline on drudge, but the comments are more interesting.  So far, it's cumo's media team out there in the comments.  Palladino has a lot of skeletons, they republicans knew all about them and the republicans voted him in in a referendum that cannot be ignored.  If cumo really thinks he can just ignore palladino and he'll go away I sure hope he does that, it's the best way to lose the race.  Cumo is a downstater, born and rasied in NYC, going to private schools.  Rick is a downstater.   Karl, Karl's an upstater.  Andrew, the upstaters have been waiting for a candidate to come from them.

Household net worth fell to $53.5 trillion, well below the $64.2 trillion it had reached at the end of 2007 when the recession officially began, according to the central bank's quarterly flow of funds report.

Declines in the value of financial assets -- especially in stocks and mutual funds -- accounted for much of the decline in second-quarter net worth. Stocks alone were down $1.9 trillion to $14.9 trillion, more than offsetting small gains in other areas like state and local government retirement funds.

All is well comrades. The recession is over

32 My parents have had their lawn signs stolen but they didn't get angry, they just replaced the lawn signs.  this year someone literally took their flag down and threw it on the ground.   When they were leaving they noticed it but didn't have time to put it back up.   another neighbor came along and put it against the tree standing.  My dad eventually put it back up.   Lot of runners pass their house, lot of non verbal communication going on there.  And yes, they heard a bunch of "thugs" destroy their mailbox last year with a baseball bat.  the other night "the thugs" found out that you can hit a rubbermade mailbox hundreds of times with a baseball bat and nothing happens.  the combo of installing the mailbox in solid concrete and whatever rubbermade does to their plastic was very funny to watch.  My parents say they made a lot of noise and exhausted themselves until another neighbor came out and threatened to call the cops.

I had mailbox issues a couple of years ago.  Kids.  They'd always bash it the same night I replaced it.  The fourth one I put up was filled with cement. So they slowed down about 2 AM and gave it a whack.  Then about 10 rounds of 7.62 were fired, quite safely and quite rapidly mind you, into the ground at my feet as I stood about 10 yards away.

They haven't been back.  Hell, they might still be going.

when my dad put the signs back out he included some sign he bought on the internet which indicated to anyone even entertaining the thought of coming on the property and taking or destroying the signs that it just wasn't a good idea....it was something about a rabid human with no understanding of civility living in the house.  hence they ignored the signs and destroyed the mailbox instead.  Recently found out the neighbor, an attorney, when threatening to call the cops advised them that destroying the mailbox was destroying federal property and thus the penalty was different than just destroying the mailbox.  Not sure if that is true but man can that neighbor tell a lie with a straight face.

42 I'm reading up on  Joe DioGuardi, and he's a great candidate. I'm surprised he isn't gaining more against Gillibrand, but since Reid was just talking up her "hotness," maybe this race is competitive now.

DioGuardi served in the House from 1985 - 89. He is a CPA and former partner at Arthur Anderson. He co-founded the Albanian American Civic League with his wife, Shirley Cloyes DioGuardi, a writer, foreign-policy analyst, human rights activist and former book publisher. Joe was the first Member of Congress to bring the issue of Albanian rights in the Balkans to the attention of the US government through a Congressional Resolution that he sponsored as a new Member in 1986. He was also responsible for the first Congressional hearing on Kosova in 1987. DioGuardi was an active member of the Executive Committee of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus (CHRC) and worked with Caucus founder Tom Lantos (D-CA) on apartheid in South Africa, as well as the repression of Jews in the Soviet Union and the Tibetan people and monks in China.

His reformist and fiscon creds are impressive, as well. He was the original author of the Chief Financial Officer and Federal Financial Reform Act, signed by President George H.W. Bush in 1990. He founded and co-chaired the Congressional Long Island Sound and Hudson River Caucuses, which secured substantial increases in federal support. He co-founded with Jerry Nadler the New York Task Force for Port, Rail and Industrial Development in order to restore lost jobs to New York's manufacturing and transportation sectors and preserve a portion of the Port of New York on the New York side of the harbor. DioGuardi and Mickey Leland initiated legislation to confer the Congressional Medal of Honor on Black World War I and World War II military heroes who had been recommended for, but had not received, the medal. Of the 1.55 million Black American military servicemen, not one had received the honor. Nine Congressional Medals of Honor have since been awarded.

This is an election Republicans should be paying attention to. We need more people with such impressive careers of serving their communities in the US Senate. Mark Levin, Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and Sean Hannity should be using their bully pulpits to talk this guy up.

46 Interfering with the US Mail is a Federal crime, if your mailbox has been destroyed more the once, I would report it to the postal inspectors. They actually have a broad jurisdiction and just might camp on it to get out of the office. Getting your carrier to write it up as a safety hazard is icing on the cake.

Anyone catch Obama big lie yesterday? He stated that "the wealthy would all get a check for $100,000 dollars" if we let the tax cuts expire.  What? Huh?

What total bullshit.  If you don't raise the tax rate on the already over-taxed "rich" - they don't get a check for 100K.  Obama's just making stuff up because he assumes his voters are dumb.  Which they are...

A fellow I knew in East Texas got tired of teenagers running down his mailbox. After the third time, we went out and purchased a 9 foot length of 6" drill stem. Then he set about 6 feet of it in concrete 24 inches or so across and 6 feet into the ground. A month or so later he heard a crash about 2 in the morning. The next morning he found broken glass and antifreeze coolant around his mail box, but the mailbox was still standing proudly and undamaged.

BTW drill stem is oil well thick walled high strength steel tube, for those non-oil patchers.

The recession has left the US with a long-term unemployment rate – a measure of those without work for more than six months – of 4.5pc, almost double that of the 1980s and 1990s downturns.

"Previous US recessions have exhibited no long-term damage to the economy or long-term increase in unemployment, but it is possible this recession will trigger these effects," the OECD said in its first survey of the world's biggest economy since late 2008.

The recession is over comrades. All is wonderful in the world again

You know what happens when you wrestle a pig? You get dirty and the pig likes it. I am uninterested in anything Paladino has to say until he spends the $10 million he promised in the primaries, unless he has real dirt on Cuomo, in which case it better be good, because New Yorkers have heard it all and still reliably vote Democrat.

71 If Bristol stays on that show long enough, she'll start shedding the pounds.

I find it very sweet that Bristol is going to be on Dancing With the Stars, and she handled herself much better than Meghan McCain on Leno. The pro-life community should be behind her, because it sends a message that motherhood -- even when unplanned and while you're so young -- is not the end of the world. It changes your life, but you can still have fun. And dancing is good, clean fun. Exercising and learning something new and meeting new people will make her feel better about herself. I think it was a good move to accept the invitation to go on the show.

Cash for Caulkers in the Motor City, via WSJ:

"18 months after the bill was signed into law, Michigan has weatherized 10,194 homes with stimulus dollars.  It has 23,216 more to go before it meets its target."

The hold-ups have included beauracratic obstacles (that took more than a year to clear) like:

"Specifiying the precise wages that contractors would have to pay, posting the adverstisment on a specific website...other rules--federal, state and local for grant and contract-award processes, historic preservation and labor standards....there is a union-backed provision that requires weatherization workers receive the prevailing wages in the area."

This is just for weatherization of buildings, I can't wait til the government takes over our health care.

93 I think the anger is because its not your chosen candidate and specifically one that people around here love to bash.

Well, I don't dislike Mitt and I find the RINO label way over-used, but I think it's a chicken-shit tactic to post something cryptic and then link to a candidate's (who isn't even running for anything this November) boosterism article.

Mitt is not really that relevant right now or leading up to November.  Mitt's supporters have plenty of time to try to talk sense into him on his stance re government healthcare, as well as time to try to bring people who've lost faith in him around, but now is not the time.  So posting something as if it's a time-sensitive critical issue for this November is obnoxious.  And, frankly, if it's Republican victory Dan craves, bringing up Mitt - who deservedly or not is a lightning rod for strong negative feelings - is an unnecessary distraction.

I hate tinyurl b/c you can't tell where you're going, which is why I don't follow links from cryptic posts like that (and only followed this one after our fellow moron's comment).

ORLY? The candidate you are constantly bringing up despite the guy being a nut who emails Stormfront newsletters and bestiality porn and called Jewish Assemblyman Sheldon Silver "Hitler" and "the anti-Christ" is not your guy? It sounded like it.

"Andrew, the upstaters have been waiting for a candidate to come from them." I interpreted that as meaning Paladino is your guy.

I already went into detail the other night about my impressions on this race. The establishment candidate was former Democrat Steve Levy. Rick Lazio is not a strong candidate this season for the Governor's race, but he might have fared better against Gillibrand. Having learned more about Joe DioGuardi, the GOP made the sensible nomination there. Paladino has no shot at winning. He is playing Tom Tancredo's role in the Hickenlooper contest in CO. Lazio could have stood a chance at one time but not unless Paladino exits early and throws his support to him. That will never happen.

If it were a link to Sarah Palin or John Bolton for example , I would wager a large sum that it would not have garnered the same reaction.

Posted by: polynikes at September 21, 2010 11:13 AM

The link was not to an article by Gov. Romney detailing some strategy about a current race, it was to an article that was essential a pro-Romney booster piece, couched in general "unity" terms.

Yes, Romney is a lightning rod for hate.  Yes, I find it stupid and excessive, but my point was it's a distraction.  And I hope you can see how the post in which the link was made implied it was a link to a time-sensitive vitally-important article.

And I think you can say that Palin draws equally strong negative reactions (from some) and is also a distraction in some cases.  If the piece had been a link from a Palin fan talking about how unfairly she'd been treated over what her daughter did or whatever and if the link had been couched in the same "must read" way, it would have gotten some negative reactions.  A lot of us are not on the Palin bandwagon, even if we do appreciate the help her endorsement provides for GOP candidates.

Bolton?  Well, he is pretty well-liked and really not in the same league as the other two since he didn't run last time.  So it's hard to imagine some Bolton fan writing a piece defending him.
