Just because I'm skeptical about polls in general (and even more so when conducted by liberal media/universities) I had to take a look at the methodology.  I found this little nugget.

Upon completion of the interviewing, the results were weighted slightly to more accurately reflect the total population of registered voters throughout the state. Weighting was done to regional and demographic characteristics according to known Census Bureau estimates and voter file projections; party registration was weighted to match the most recent 2010 report from the California secretary of state's office.

There's your grains of salt.  Take as many as you wish.

Yes, most California's are decidedly liberal and they continue to support the same asshat liberal politicians who've sold them down the river time and time again with all sorts of promises. 

But I think that this next election will be a real awakening for many.  The actual percentage of people who vote and who take part in elections or consider themselves "politically active" in most areas of the country, including California, is relatively small.  Voter turnout is usually fairly low and as a result you really don't have to have that many kool-aid drinkers show up to win an election, especially if the other side is firmly convinced that they have only a small hope of victory.  If they think their vote doesn't matter, they generally don't show up at the polls.

This next election, however, I have a feeling your going to have a lot more people who haven't really participated in the past showing up at the polls to register their disgust with the current administration and it's unprecedented level of corruption and hubris.

So honestly I don't think folks like Boxer are quite as safe as they think they might be even if they are from areas that are heavily "democrat" or "liberal".  They'll get the same percentage vote from those folks that they've always gotten.

But the opposition candidate is going to be drawing not only from traditional areas of support but also from a lot of folks who in previous elections haven't been nearly as motivated to get down to the voting booth on election day.

In Scott Brown's recent election votor turnout was at 50 percent or more in many communities despite rain, sleet, snow and even in one district a power outage that had people voting by flashlight.  It's reported that some precincts even ran out of ballots.

So yes, even in the land of liberal I think that Republican candidates might actually be able to turn the tide provided they stick to a coherent message and concentrate on reaching out to voters who in the past may not have voted for a wide variety of reasons.

Keep in mind that most polls are based on "likely voters", meaning people who participated in elections of the past.  But the dynamic's this year are totally different than what they once were, and as a result I don't think there really is an election out there this next time around that isn't a jump ball in most respects.

So like I said, I'm going to wait and see what happens.

She has been running a well-received campaign, pointing out what a mess the liberals have left the state in. two months later..... nothin. The dims have yet to even field an electable candidate. Even so, I heard a local pol on NPR(!)   saying California's biggest problem is that in order to be elected, you have to promise free everything. A large percentage of those I speak to understand that the state is in big trouble, but are just as certain that it is not their pet project, like High speed rail, is not the problem.

115 Ummmm......I'm from CA and I don't support ObamaCare!  And I'm a registered voter and was not  invited to participate in any poll.  If they only poll the dems/liberals, of course the end result will look that way.  Okay, who am I kidding.......I'm surrounded by crazies!!!

116 I live in California.  In San Francisco, in fact (don't ask; long story).  Of the SF residents I have spoken to (and trust me, letting SFers know you have even slight conservative leanings is to ask for a screaming shit fit) all believe the state is either in no financial difficulty that couldn't be fixed by taxing corporations and the rich, and that Obamacare will be "business as usual for free."
I live here and I can't wait for it to fail.  I can't wait until their NIMBY/BANANA policies result in rolling electric blackouts.  I can't wait until their anti-business attitude produces 35% unemployment.  I can't wait until gas is $17.50 a gallon from taxes.  Until their morning Starbucks and pastry is $25 due to caffeine and fat/sugar taxes.  Etcetera.
Then I'll leave.

As a conservative Californian I am offended.   Less than half of the respondents to a cooked poll favor Obamacare and it's catnip to the "decent" people who live out of state and wish every bad thing to happen to us.   One thing you can say about CA, when the hurricanes hit or the midwest floods or the ice storms, we don't get on the internet and gloat over other peoples' suffering.   Too bad we aren't 'them good people in middle America.'  Not to mention we beat back gay marriage three times.  Iowa, hello???????

Since central CA supplies a large portion of the nation's food supply, some of you shouldn't b***h while your plate is full.

As for high speed rail, it could be a success as a private project.  It's a big state to travel and I know people who would use it.  No public funds though.  Costs a fortune to travel interstate by plane.

Campbell will edge out Boxer, I think.   He's not that bad.  Conservatives Simon and Connerly are supporting him.   He's actually pretty good on fiscal issues.   Yes, I do believe our state should go bankrupt so the freeloaders will go back to where they came from and hippies will lose power (God willing).   Historically, CA was a challenging place to live.   Those of us who are natives will be just fine.
