Unions: Too Rich And Lazy To Do Their Own F@#*in' Picketing
— LauraW

Gee, I'm sure glad the Obama administration is lavishing hundreds of billions of dollars on his union cronies.

So they can turn around and hire the non-union unemployed up at the lowest possible hourly rates to do their picketing for them.

...the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council of Carpenters is seeking paid demonstrators to march and chant in its current picket line outside the McPherson Building, an office complex here where the council says work is being done with nonunion labor.

"For a lot of our members, it's really difficult to have them come out, either because of parking or something else," explains Vincente Garcia, a union representative who is supervising the picketing.

So instead, the union hires unemployed people at the minimum wage—$8.25 an hour—to walk picket lines.

I don't blame them, really. Parking, ecch. SUCH a bitch in these older cities. Don't get me started.
And you never really feel good about leaving the Escalade on the street, right? You want a nice safe, covered spot, but then...that means walking.

You can't win.
You just can't win.
Fuhgeddaboutit.

Nope, best to hire Jorge to wave your sign that says 'This shop "does not pay area standard wages & benefits,"' and let the little fella make a few bucks for himself while he's down on his luck. It's a good deed. Doing him a favor, two birds, yadda yadda.

The union's Mr. Garcia sees no conflict in a union that insists on union labor hiring nonunion people to protest the hiring of nonunion labor.

Nooooooo. No.

No.

Shut up.

He says the pickets are not only about "union issues" but also about fair wages and benefits for American workers. By hiring the unemployed, "we are also giving back to the community a bit," he says.

Giving back. One uninsured, minimum-wage-hour at a time. Gosh, what a great bunch of guys. Pinky-ring wearing philanthropists, they are.

Thanks to Skylia Ember.

5 Nice blog, here. You might want to think about what you post, or I'll have to pay some teenager to spray paint it.

6 "either parking or something else" keeps them from doing their own picketing. It's called lazyness; a union tradition

7 But is it the same one? Of course it is. I don't repeat that juicy quote about parking without double time and a coffee break.

Posted by: Vincente Garcia at August 05, 2010 03:56 PM (SwkdU)

8 Yeah, so, who wants to go with me to go try and organize these guys into forming a picketers' union? Then we can picket the scab picketers.

15 This is no joke - most libs seem to think that unions are good for all wages, and especially the little guy.

Of course this is an insane concept. Of course unions hurt ALL workers, consumers and taxpayers that are not in that union, and especially hurt workers that aspire to do those jobs (like, immigrants that aspire to work in carpentry) but there is no edumacating a lib.

now let me get back to my Mountain Dew and Cheetos!

In other words, the union rank and file don't share or support the same opinions as the ruling elites hence they have to hire scabs to protest for them.  This is also why liberals routinely hire professional protestors for their astroturfing events because the rank and file blue collars Dems are interested either.

I say we organize a counter picket.  We can use illegal aliens.

When they start throwing insults they won't be able to understand each other.

We'll have two thirds of the entire base of the democrat machine at each others throats.

If only we could enlist all those dead people who manage to vote regularly for the dems...

I'm getting screwed here.

21 We have that locally.  Carpenters Union protesting a building ALREADY BUILT.  And the picketers are.......wait for it.........ILLEGAL ALIENS!

22 Somewhat OT, but wouldn't it be fucking awesome if construction workers REFUSE to work on that mosque at Ground Zero? Spread the word if you know any iron workers, concrete guys, electrics, carpenters etc.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at August 05, 2010 04:11 PM (9Cooa)

23 The non-union picketers should vote on unionizing and demand collective bargaining and when they're dumped by the union take it to the National Labor Relations Board.

Posted by: Dusty at August 05, 2010 04:11 PM (3WVdK)

24 I know some say that union construction workers in New York will not work on the mosque but do you really think they will not - I am not sure. It is gonna get really weird if they start building that thing.

25 We have legislation for everything that unions were created to do or protect. They need to go.

26 I received a call tonight from some douchenozzle that could barely speak English.  He asked me if I wanted "free government money to help the unions."

I asked him where he thought that money came from.  It was akin to striking a mullet over the head with a steel bar:  silence punctuated by some mumbling.

Fucking retards.

28 Why can't they hire out of work stage actors instead? More people might pay attention if they were to suddenly break into a sparkly rendition of "Steam Heat".

29 Laura W, this is one of your best.  I laughed the whole way through.  Yep, that's the dirty little secret.  Maybe they got stimulus money to do the repairs but they aren't hiring union carpenters or any union for that matter.  And, if they are building, they aren't hiring union at all.  On job sites these days communication occurs in Spanish, at least in NYC.  I guess their guilt of helping to destroy private enterprise is what drives them to hire those once secretaries and middle management guys, assuages their consciences, if they ever had any.  Meantime, it is probably more expensive to carry the pension than to pay and carry new carpenters.

But today's new mantra is "I'll get mine and if it screws you, don't matter, you should have been smart enough to figure out what I was going to do and prepare for it, you weren't?  sorry then, you lose"

Posted by: . at August 05, 2010 04:16 PM (p302b)

30 The union should hire some Indian programmers to write an application that would allow you to picket by Facebook or email.  They could even put some "picketing kiosks" in local strip clubs and buffet restaurants.

Posted by: Ted Kennedy's Gristle Encased Head at August 05, 2010 04:25 PM (+lsX1)

31 Ya know, I think maybe having non-members do the picketing should be an illegal labor practice. If you're going to strike, it should actually involve your members.

Posted by: Rob Crawford at August 05, 2010 04:25 PM (0onAO)

32 I say we organize a counter picket.  We can use illegal aliens.

Better would be to get jobs working for these birds, organize, and then strike 'em because of the crappy wages and non-existent benefits.

Another thing the Unions do in DC is pay the unemployed to stand in line for them at Congressional committee hearings. That way before a big hearing the union people don't have to stand around for hours (and it can be hours before an especially important hearing) they just go take the place of the homeless guy they paid to stand there for them. Lazy lazy lazy.

37 Better send some zombies in there to picket too.   The undead are another big faction in the democrat party.

38 Any bets as to whether witchy woman Pelosi will call this astroturfing. Geez, these pathetic excuses for union thugs probably can't even do their own head bashing.

Are they hiring out goons to beat up people with video cameras, too?

Posted by: Warden at August 05, 2010 05:30 PM (QoR4a)

41 Yep, a while ago, my brother was hired to picket some auto shop.  While there, someone scratched his car that was parked around the block.  What to do?  He took it into the shop he was picketing -- after he and the other picketers went home for the day...  It's not like he cared about what he was picketing for or who gave him the picket sign -- for him it was just an easy brain dead job.

43 I think he union members are paying people to picket for them because   they don't want it know that they are union members.  Just like people are writing to Beck saying they are afraid to go to DC to attend his day of activities, so these guys/gals in the unions are probably afraid too.  Now, what are they all afraid of.  Maybe they figure while they are picketing it would be very easy for someone to take video of them all and make a list of names and pictures,  like using that face recognition software at the Super Bowl.  But then, to what end would someone anyone use this for either the tea party people or the union members and who would that someone be?  A lot of folks aren't going to Beck's event out of fear and we forget that same fear might be present elsewhere so then what are these people afraid of?
