I saw this coming. Damn, I wish I put it into pixels. You'll just have to take my word for it.
Because it was foreseeable. Having taken a position so completely on the side of this supposed moderate, Obama and the MFM could only pray that there weren't any tapes in Rauf's background to show the world how truly corrupt -- and deliberately stupid -- they were.
Did they even think that far ahead? Or did they just assume that because the right held suspicions about him, he must be pure as the virgin snow?
Well... Steve Emerson says "bad assumption, fellas."
And now it's going to cost you.
Remember: You -- Obama and the MFM -- went out a limb to vouch for this guy, putting the whole of your credibility and judgment behind the proposition that he is a well-meaning, peaceful moderate and you'd have to be crazy to think otherwise.
Well. Well. Let's check the tapes.
Steve Emerson has unearthed 13 hours of audio tape of Imam Rauf. Emerson and his team of investigators has spent the past four weeks going through the newly found material. Rauf is a “radical extremist cleric who cloaks himself in sheep’s clothing.”Among the shocking revelations Emerson’s team will reveal next week — they found Rauf:
Defending wahhabism – a puritanical version of Islam that governs Saudi Arabia
Calling for the elimination of Israel by claiming a one-nation state, meaning no more Jewish State.
Defending Bin LadenÂ’s violence
We know the first, second, and last defense that will be screamed by the left: B-b-but Bush said he was moderate....!
Yeah? And? Bush didn't stake his political future on the man's purported "moderation," either.
Thanks to LauraW., who was out looking for actual news while I was jagging off in the comments.
Let Me Repeat: Obama and the MFM staked the entirety of their credibility and judgment on the assertion that this was a moderate man interested only in peace, and of course in no way a supporter of terrorism, and anyone who suspected otherwise was an ignorant bigot with a heart full of hatred.
So let's see. Let's see.
Let's see whose judgment was sound and whose judgment was really full of ignorance and hatred -- hatred for the concerns of their fellow Americans.
Headline Credit: Dr. Varno proposed "Unmosqued" and I agree.
Hey Yeah...

That's the work of cartoonist Steve Kelley, making a sound connection that never occurred to me. Via Elana13.
Johnny Rotten, Neocon? Well, that's stretching it, I think, and he's John Lydon now, of course.
Well, enough preamble: He's looking to shock the world again.
I really resent the presumption that I'm going there to play to right-wing Nazi jews [sic]. If Elvis-f-ing-Costello wants to pull out of a gig in Israel because he's suddenly got this compassion for Palestinians, then good on him. But I have absolutely one rule, right? Until I see an Arab country, a Muslim country, with a democracy, I won't understand how anyone can have a problem with how they're treated.
It's worth noting the obvious, that the Sex Pistols' "Bodies" is a pretty darn edgy anti-abortion screed. That always seemed, though, to be more out of Lydon's class warfare instincts (i.e., I figured he figured the British ruling class was encouraging the lower classes to have abortions and hence self-extinguish).
Who knows. Guy's always pissed off about something. He should have a blog.
Thanks to Moron In Training for the Lydon tip.
Escape Hatch? Any politician reversing himself needs an excuse as to why. (See Bush the Elder, he became pro-life after caring for "the little brown ones," etc.)
If these tapes pan out -- and I have to think Obama himself is hoping they do -- it gives him an escape hatch, an excuse for his pivot. "Well, there were facts that hadn't surfaced yet when I spoke at that iftar..." Etc.

Bush couldn't stop himself from spewing that "religion of peace" bullshit, over and over and over, which used to make people turn purple. Bush was awful in dealing with islam. He was almost a leftist, himself, in that respect. Anyone who ever wanted to know anything factual about islam would NEVER go to George Bush to learn it.

Y'know, the Saudi Connection world-wide mosque building program has two purposes:
1) Extend the reach of Shari'a throughout the Dar al-harb ("The House of War")
2) Destroy the non-Wahhabist sects by building magnificent community centers that overwhelm and starve out the hole-in-the wall mosques.

In our war with Islamic terrorism, which Bush had no problem referring it as, we had to work with muslims from all over the world. Many of these muslims provided information that prevented further attacks and allowed us our military victories. I propose non of this would have been possible if Bush had spoken with the rhetoric you wanted him to.
Posted by: polynikes at August 20, 2010 05:48 PM (m2CN7)
First of all, I disagree with your premise. Muslims work with other muslims (who they want to kill and call all sorts of things) all the time. Israel has never had many problems finding palestinians to inflitrate, until Israel started to give away more and more and more and potential pali spies got the idea that they might end up on the losing side with Israel.
Secondly, I'm not saying that Bush had to say anything. If he couldn't speak the truth about islam, then he should have said little or nothing about it. No one forced him to call it a "religion of peace". You know how silly it is to call a religion that calls itself "submission" a "religion of peace".
Bush worked on the idea of building up goodwill in the
muslim world, but there is not really such a thing as goodwill in their cultures.
Posted by: progressoverpeace at August 20, 2010 01:55 PM (Qp4DT)
Nope. That wild & crazy Imam guy simply had his remarks taken out of context by the reactionary, racist righties. All the more reason to get that Cordoba Mosque going in a hurry, so we can combat all the evils visited upon peace-loving Muslims.
I'm waiting for the Osama Obama regime to start handing out Dubya's quotes about all the good the Muzzies do, and reminding one and all that Bush was throwing "Eid" dinners at the White House while the Traitor-in-Chief was jagging off (thanks, ace) to pictures of the Presidential Seal.

Yeah its never about the actual issue and the controversy it will cause, its about the events surrounding an issue and how they can turn that into a controversy to hide/drown out the real controversy.
Like the Iraqi police stringer for the AP, Jamil Hussein. When he was being called into question about the information he was giving out, one of the things was "does he even exist." It was only one issue and once they got an officer to come forward and say he was the source, well that settled it for everyone in the media. Nevermind that the big issue was he was the only source for reports of violence all over the city of Baghdad, and was the actual problem. They could focus on see he exists, problem solved.

I've gone back and forth on this. They have a constitutional right to build there. I think it's a sick joke that people are being called racist for opposing a mosque with shady connections 600 feet from the site where Muslim terrorists killed 3000 innocent people less than 10 years ago.
But I am not a Manhattanite. Not a New Yorker. I keep reading polls that say Manhattanites are not opposed to this. To which I'm starting to say "Build it." If the people of Manhattan are so deep in dhimmitude that after the first World Trade Center bombing, the atrocity of 9/11, the attempted Times Square bombing, and God only knows how many other thwarted Muslim terror attacks we'll never know about that they want a mosque originally named after a Western city that Islam conquered for its own (Cordoba), let them live with it. Maybe the crocodile will eat them last. Maybe after the next atrocity in New York, they'll cry "But, but, we let you build a mosque!"

I predict a wall of utter denial. The MSM and Democrat boneheads who took the bogus freedom of religion angle will studiously ignore it, and if pressed, insist that it doesn't mean what it means, that it doesn't show those things at all.
Think of the Reverend Wright videos. The crazy-ass shit was right there in plain sight: "God damn America," "AIDS was created in a government lab to kill brown people," etc., etc. Sitting in that church for 20 years should have blown Obama out of the race forthwith, but it didn't. First they ignored it, and when they could no longer ignore it, decided to get leg tingles from Obama's shitty little speech on "The Issue of Race and My Disgusting White Racist Grandmother."
Yeah, that's the ticket. Time for another shitty little speech about the Big Picture.

If the people of Manhattan are so deep in dhimmitude that after the first World Trade Center bombing, the atrocity of 9/11, the attempted Times Square bombing, and God only knows how many other thwarted Muslim terror attacks we'll never know about that they want a mosque originally named after a Western city that Islam conquered for its own (Cordoba), let them live with it. Maybe the crocodile will eat them last. Maybe after the next atrocity in New York, they'll cry "But, but, we let you build a mosque!"
Posted by: Palandine at August 20, 2010 06:03 PM (+ho3C)
I'm not from NYC, but I am from the suburbs. However, I can state as a fact that most Manhattanites are not from NYC, they're narcissistic transients with dreams of making it big. I would bet that at least 60% of today's residents of Manhattan did not live there 9 years ago.
Posted by: PMSNBC at August 20, 2010 02:07 PM (F8rwu)
As usual, we'll see the headline on it here and possibly briefly at Fox News, and everyone else will ignore it.
95% of the liberal population will continue the drum beat that anyone daring to oppose the mosque is intolerant while ignoring the obvious double standard.

I get your point, but the rest of America cannot be ignored on this particular "local" matter. That 9/11 crocodile attack made us all go to war, not just New Yorkers. We'll be paying for that for generations..
No, this isn't a local matter and we shouldn't consider it such even though it would be nice to wash our hands of it and let those who invite such onslaughts suffer the repercussions. Live and let live is usually a good philosophy. Usually, but not here. We're intertwined.

A couple of incoherant thoughts. First. They are always carrying on about how we've killed so many of their brethren and it's because of this that they want to kill us. Seems to me that more moslems are killed by other moslems than any other group of people. I'm sure that if it was researched that the facts would show this. Second. In my opinion a "moderate" moslem seems to be on the same par as a "moderate" Dem or Repub. Eventually they will gravitate to the radical side of thier true beliefs.

Wow - shocker. A muslim who thinks, speaks, and acts like... a muslim. The exposition of this is, of course, glorious news. One more red-hot metaphorical poker to jam up Obastard's metaphorical ass. I will be forwarding this to everyone I know. Fucking democrat fucks.
As for the right of the muztards to build what they want where they want, that's bunk.
First, because there's an orthadox church that is not being allowed that right in the same area, and it was pre-existing.
Second, and more importantly, this whole episode does us the service of exposing a serious weakness in the consititution itself. It should be immediately ammended to exempt Islam from freedom of religious expression. It is unlike any other religion of significance, in that it is a murder cult. As long as Islam exists it will produce homocidal maniacs. They are the slime of humanity, litterally worse than the Nazis. They should be purged from this nation, then our hemisphere, and finally from existence.
There is no possible way the founding fathers could have imagined that Americans would let these moon rock worshipping pukes to come to this land in any numbers. For fuck's sake, the Mormons were driven out once upon a time, and even if all the worst made-up shit people have said about them were true, they would still be a million times better neighbors than the muzzies. If they had even thought it possible, they would have taken action to insure it couldn't happen.

Heh heh. Of course, that story hearkens back to a day when the muslim scum knew who buttered their bread - they let the "infidels" live somewhat more peacefully once conquered. Also, a time when they were a damn sight less freakishly evil in their religious legalism. Compared to the muslims of today, the ancient Turks and Persians were relatively enlightened (though still muslim scum, worthy only of destruction).
I admit that I can't quote the original source, but I once read that much of the worst crap we see from the muslim vermin today was stirred up by the communists. Hard Left ideas started to infiltrate the Middle East, and a bunch of tribes who had little but mutual hate and contempt for each other started to develop an "identity" as an oppressed group. Every element of life started to become politicized, which is how it always goes when the commies are around, and since Islam is political it islam-ized every element of life even worse than it already was.

British punk, maybe; American punk far less so, at least during its early years.
The Pistols didn't really have that much of an agenda. Malcolm McLaren just wanted to shock people. Rotten was anti-establishment, whatever the establishment was. Matlock and Cook didn't particularly care about politics. Jones just wanted to get laid, and Vicious just wanted to get smacked up.
The Clash were always the more political band.

Some of it started even earlier, with alliances with Nazi Germany... many of those were there to overthorw the Turks, and get the rest of Europe out of the MidEast.
Then the Soviets saw the same opportunity, to make the West spend resources in the MidEast... while they would make a minimal investment...

There's some pretty weird shit about that, too. I read that some of the campaign staff was hauling papers out of there in grocery bags, and not admitting they were with the campaign. Plus, they let the suspect go saying they were looking for fingerprnts. Huh? It was thrown through the window. Something weird about that especially since his office is in the same building as ACORN.

Margaret Sanger, in The Pivot of Civilization:
At the present time, civilized nations are penalizing talent and genius, the bearers of the torch of civilization, to coddle and perpetuate the choking human undergrowth, which, as all authorities tell us, is escaping control and threatens to overrun the whole garden of humanity. Yet men continue to drug themselves with the opiate of optimism, or sink back upon the cushions of Christian resignation, their intellectual powers anaesthetized by cheerful platitudes. Or else, even those, who are fully cognizant of the chaos and conflict, seek an escape in those pretentious but fundamentally fallacious social philosophies which place the blame for contemporary world misery upon anybody or anything except the indomitable but uncontrolled instincts of living organisms. These men fight with shadows and forget the realities of existence. Too many centuries have we sought to hide from the inevitable, which confronts us at every step throughout life.
Let us conceive for the moment at least, a world not burdened by the weight of dependent and delinquent classes, a total population of mature, intelligent, critical and expressive men and women. Instead of the inert, exploitable, mentally passive class which now forms the barren substratum of our civilization, try to imagine a population active, resistant, passing individual and social lives of the most contented and healthy sort. Would such men and women, liberated from our endless, unceasing struggle against mass prejudice and inertia, be deprived in any way of the stimulating zest of life? Would they sink into a slough of complacency and fatuity?
No! Life for them would be enriched, intensified and ennobled in a fashion it is difficult for us in our spiritual and physical squalor even to imagine. There would be a new renaissance of the arts and sciences. Awakened at last to the proximity of the treasures of life lying all about them, the children of that age would be inspired by a spirit of adventure and romance that would indeed produce a terrestrial paradise.

Indeed. No matter where they go on earth, they bring nothing constructive. Only ruin, misery, and death. Without exception.
What I don't get is this - the Jews are good neighbors pretty much universally. They work, pay taxes, and win nobel prizes for real, useful stuff. Yet it would be far easier to stir up a riot against the Jews than against the Mohammedans. If anything we should be seeing spontaneous pogroms against the muslims all across America. The Right is right to despise them, and they believe in things totally contrary to the "stated" aims of the Left. Are people just too ignorant/brainwashed, or are they simply afraid that the muslims will make life less pleasant if they were targetted? It baffles me.

Yep - typical for a Lib. The obvious, non-murdering solution escapes them, but anything involving killing the innocent gets them horney as a goat.
To get rid of the underclass we need to nothing other than quit paying them to breed, and require sterilization as a precondition for social services. That would fix the issue in a generation.

"To get rid of the underclass," and then you start talking up state-imposed sterilization.
Pretty comfortable with eugenics, huh?
Posted by: ace at August 20, 2010 07:16 PM (QbA6l)
First off, sterilization is usually reversable. Second, I plainly stated that the procedure should be a precondition for welfare - not imposed by force. When it is voluntary, I fully support eugenics. I myself may carry genes for some quite negative genetic conditions - would I be right to inflict those conditions on a child? I won't risk it, and I have not respect for those who will.
So, we should go on as we have? I sometimes drive through the poor sections of town, partly to remind myself how good I have it, and also to see what decades of welfare statism has created. The families there breed many kids. Most of those kids are conceived either out of negligence, the short sighted desire for a baby to play with, or in order to increase the take from the welfare office. They are stuck in the worst environment for kids. They go to the least desireable schools, which is mostly the act of attending - not really learning (hence an ever declining grad rate even as the standards fall). Most are fatherless. Their odds of escaping the life are low. The odds of perpetuating it are high. Why on earth should I want more of the same? Why should I pay ever higher taxes to support other men's bastards, when I didn't even fuck any of those welfare queens? It is senseless. We're going to be overwhelmed.

Yeah, I kind of have the same reaction, at least as pertains to the first two.
Defending the religious sect of an "ally" (or at least not an enemy) is nothing. Just chalk it up to State Department weaselly stuff.
A unified state is not exactly the same thing as the "Death of Israel." Yes, I realize the effect is the same, but you could argue as a secularist that it is desirable to have a secular state including all peoples with a claim to that land in it.
But the last one, if true, is the one that will get him, particularly since it really feeds the idea that this mosque/gymnasium/community center is meant to be a monument celebrating 9/11.

Welfare scum, regardless of race, are the problem. The fact that a large portion are black is an accident of history - nothing more. I won't pull punches on this issue out of some fear that I will be percieved as a nasty racist bad person. Ignoring the problem prevents any serious effort to fix it.
If you're content with the status quo, then how do you propose we pay for it long term? What is your solution, oh benevolent one?
My place in the hierarchy may not be as high as I want it, as I am not yet rich, but I'm pretty damn happy to live in relative peace and security. And I have to pay brutal property taxes to keep that status. It's because the scum are spreading out - increasing in number. The good areas of town are dying one by one and nobody is gentrifying the slums. Civilization is in retreat. The community isn't the only one. What's to be done, if we provide economic advantages to people who have children without the means to support them without state aid?
And while I can't know Ace's history, I doubt that he or Reagan owe their existence to welfare. I could be wrong, but I'd be shocked.

You can't compare today's bottom feeders with the underclass of the 19th century and before. Those poor people had to work to live. They didn't tax the gentry to pay for their brats, and they tended to get married and have proper families.
Do you think even Wellington could mold our dependency class into a force for empire building? Fat chance. Nor could they have manned the ships that Nelson commanded.

Reactionary, you're advocating sterilization for welfare funds?
Yes.
How about unemployment?
Unemployment of the traditional, short term sort is earned in advance, and TEMPORARY. Also, no sterilization is needed, because it doesn't pay more for extra kids.
How about people who end up disabled? They aren't paying their own way right?
If they want to make babies after becoming disabled and thus unable to take care of even themselves (shockingly unwise, in my view), why do I have to pay for that? Must I pay for a nurse, too? How about fertility drugs for those who are infertile? Better yet - how about you do it? You can pay my share of that tax so you're heart need not bleed.
A government that can control reproduction can control plenty of other things as well. See China.
Not the same at all. First, I don't advocate killing the unborn to maintain a quota. Second, I don't propose a rule that people NOT on welfare should be restricted - if you can afford them, make as many babies as you want! I don't care if your wife is pregnant year round for all of her reproductive years. Just don't ask me to help out. They're not my babies. Not my responsibility. I pay enough already in school taxes, etc. Under my plan, people will have the choice. Fend for themselves like most people in human history have had to do, or give up reproducing in exchange for benefits. Where is the fucking hardship?
Honestly, I have no idea why people equate killing babies with preventing them. Totally different.

Flaming skull, keep behind me, flaming skull

They've been pretty disorganized, actually, and that's the only gratifying part.

I hope Steve Emerson's tapes dont affect the Vacationer-in-Chief's golf game too much.
Barry has some 'splaining to do. And blaming Bush aint gonna get it.

I'm not getting my hopes up too much. When they tout these things before they come out with the product, it usually disappoints. Probably some brief sound bites that will satisfy confirmation bias, but nothing that will rise above the level of being taken several ways.
But it would be very cool if I were wrong about that.

No longer a victim of White Privilege, the MFM's interest in her took a sudden turn into the Memory Hole.
You may recall this happened pretty much the SECOND word came out that she had previously underpaid and abused black youth. BOOM she disappeared from the news like a fired rocket.
I bet there was a sonic boom, even.
The MFM still has much power.

So, an independent blogger, on a shoestring budget, uncovers material about this imam that the federal government and the MFM, with nearly unlimited resources, could not.
Or would not.
When I saw the MFM commentators wagging their fingers in my face because Imam Rauf was "obviously" a "moderate" and I was too much the thug conservative to recognize it, I suspected - and now I know - that this opinion was based not on knowledge of Rauf, but was the usual MFM circle-jerk, commentators all citing each other but nobody investigating the facts.
And we should listen to them because ... ?

71 Are we still sending the good Imam on his taxpayer funded middle east junket?
Yep. His latest little vacay cost U.S. taxpayers $16,000.00 (so we know he's going first class, not staying in Qatar's version of Motel 6). Nice of us to be so generous when so many of us are out of work and/or on foodstamps, isn't it? And this is just one of many trips he's taken on our dime over several years -- ostensibly as "outreach" to Muslims.
Good to know that our government takes that "separation of church and state" thing so seriously, eh? Using tax dollars to pay an imam for "outreach" to Muslims is so totally appropriate; but using tax dollars to pay a Catholic priest or a Jewish rabbi for outreach to Christians, Jews, etc. would clearly be a First Amendment violation!

Wouldn't it be splendid if John Lydon became an English political power.
Lydon has applied for citizenship to the US. He doesn't have a lot of love for his home country.

More like spreading crabs across America. I remember reading a book in the early '90s by a guy who went on the US tour with them. All I remember is Sid's crab infestation, Johnny pissing in a tranny's mouth and someone accidentally shitting on a groupies face. Uh really good book.

Yep, the mosque thing will be the slipping stone that starts the landslide that finally buries the Progressives. Or, maybe the better analogy is the "straw that broke the camel's back."

His second son-in-law had PDF to JPEG Converter known my sister since they were in middle school, and I was still in elementary school. I grew up thinking he was like the brother I never had. My father loved him like PDF to BMP Converter a son even though he, like son-in-law number one, was not rich.
