Update: Bradley Manning More Hacker-Wannabe Than Gay Avenger
— Ace

A reader objects to the prominence I'm giving the gay angle. He points to Manning's chat logs as evidence he was more of an "information wants to be free" hacker-wannabe than an angry homosexual.

(02:23:25 PM) Manning: i couldÂ’ve sold to russia or china, and made bank?

(02:23:36 PM) Lamo: why didnÂ’t you?

(02:23:58 PM) Manning: because itÂ’s public data

(02:24:15 PM) Lamo: i mean, the cables

(02:24:46 PM) Manning: it belongs in the public domain

(02:25:15 PM) Manning: information should be free

(02:25:39 PM) Manning: it belongs in the public domain

(02:26:18 PM) Manning: because another state would just take advantage of the informationÂ… try and get some edge

(02:26:55 PM) Manning: if its out in the openÂ… it should be a public good

(02:27:04 PM) Manning: *do the

(02:27:23 PM) Manning: rather than some slimy intel collector

(02:29:18 PM) Manning: im crazy like that

Well that is important information. However, a criminal's stated reason for his crime is rarely congruent with his actual reason. Especially criminals like this -- spies tend to cast their betrayals in terms of some more defensible greater abstract point.

Spies become spies because of MICES -- Money Ideology Coercion Ego Sex. Which of the mice were driving little Bradley's wheels we can't say yet.

I know for a fact this little bastard did this for personal reasons -- he had a grudge. About what in particular, it's not clear. But this information wants to be free stuff is stuff he got from Assange, the latter bastard providing the former bastard a justification to do what he wanted to do anyway.

But either way this misses my point.

I am sick to death of the media playing stories different ways depending upon whether or not they involve a protected group's member or member of a group they're hostile to.

I am sick to death of the media deciding I'm not cleared to have certain sensitive information, because I might draw the wrong impressions if I know it.

I am sick of the arrogance of these media bastards suppressing facts that don't fit their goddamned Narrative or their favored political policies (such as repealing DADT).

IN: Publishing sensitive data about our SWIFT financial monitoring; secret prisons; secret airlines and secret airstrips; secret contractors and front companies; not too sensitive; will not harm an important American interest

OUT: Publishing data about the tumultuous sexual life of a confirmed traitor. Too sensitive; may harm an important American interest (namely, repealing DADT)

It's nice to say 'information should be free' but to do that you still have to break the faith with your side. How much of a role did his anti-DADT crap play in deciding to screw people he swore an allegiance to?

28 Spies become spies because of MICES -- Money Ideology Coercion Ego Sex. Which of the mice were driving little Bradley's wheels we can't say yet. Yes yes yes. Assange has acted as an intelligence officer and Manning has acted as his asset. They should each be treated as such. Assange's Insurance file will be revealed no matter what -- and NSA has probably already decrypted it -- so he should just be snatched and his Insurance be damned. Manning is just a pathetic tool -- Assange is the real menace here.

Sort of O/T but not really if Barry spends his b-day on "Teh Downlow" (from Yahoo News):

" President Barack Obama is heading home to Chicago to celebrate his 49th birthday on Wednesday.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday that Obama's birthday plans include having dinner with friends there and spending the night in his own house in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood.

Obama hasn't shied away from talking about his birthday, noting that his hair is getting more gray and his metabolism is slowing down as another year passes. Gibbs says that while there's no doubt that the presidency comes with enormous physical and mental strain, Obama "greatly enjoys" the job.

Obama is traveling to Chicago Wednesday and Thursday to tour an auto plant and attend Democratic fundraisers, returning Thursday night to Washington.

He won't, however, be with his family, spending his birthday instead as a bachelor."

What is going on here?   How could his family not be around for his bday.  I know MO sent the email, requesting donations and a bday greeting but that can't replace having your loved ones around and a home made cake and candles and a bday wish and a champagne toast, that is irreplaceable.  So why aren't they rushing home to be with him?  They can always to to Spain but he only has one 49th bday party.

50 I am sick to death of the media deciding I'm not cleared to have certain sensitive information, because I might draw the wrong impressions if I know it.

More of this.  They talk openly about suppressing facts - like when a spree killer happens to be a Muslim - because they decide you're too stupid to draw the politically preferred position that they've decided is the correct one.  At the same time, if Bradley Manning was a Mormon or Sedevacantist Catholic or walked by a Tea Party rally once we'd all know that - and it would be pretty much all we would hear about.  We'd be hearing from psychologists who'd be diagnosing him based upon his 'rigid' or 'hateful' beliefs - and so on and so forth.

So he was clearly a deeply confused, unhappy person before all of this. I suspect Assange's philosophy merely gave him a higher level rationalization for his revenge against the military.

66 The real problem isn't that the Media suppresses the facts, it's that ALMOST ALL OF THE MEDIA OUTLETS SUPPRESS THE SAME FACTS.

If they were treated as industries are, they could be charged with crimes under the ANTI-TRUST acts.

Their being in almost complete harmony whether in what they say or what they don't say, is the REAL CRIME.

It's why they hate Fox News and now The Daily Caller. Those outlets allow the people to see at least some of the reality and thus dilutes the power of the FASCIST MEDIA.

We've seen how they operate on Journolist, we've seen how they operate on Climategate, what other 'Scientifically proven' and 'well known facts' are also constructs of Lying Liberals?

It's not their bias that's so aggravating, IT'S THAT THEY WON'T ADMIT IT that gets my goat. It seems that even THEY know their rhetoric and ideology is perverted and immoral and would be rejected by most folks.

17 Manning had access because that was his job...I believe he was intell; one of my kid's soldiers went through AIT with him.  They do background checks, but if he got the notion to do this after he went through, then there wasn't much they could do to screen him.  And yes, even someone of his rank would have access to a lot of information -- or how to get ahold of it.

Which kinda supports the theory that Pvt. Fuckwit's gheyness was probably the gateway Assange used to talk him into it -- at least imho.

This does not mean every g/l/b person in the military would do this -- that's obviously not the case because there are plenty of gays in the military, and they didn't fall for it -- but it was probably the way into Manning's confidence.  I also take notice of the dickwad's age...he was the perfect patsy.

Oh well, hope the little fucker gets it good and hard (my two kids' comments: ass raped every fucking day for the full 60 years...with a sand paper condom and hot sauce lube...skull fucked so hard his goddamn teeth fall out from being rattled loose).  Since the bastard isn't going to get shot or hung from the neck until dead, that's probably the best alternative.

I am sick to death of the media deciding ...

... yeah; me, too. Having majored in journalism, I get especially sick of it.

The thing about the news media is that, in theory, they aren't supposed to do anything -- ever. They're supposed to watch other people do stuff, and then the media describe it and take pictures of it. In an ideal, abstract, information-wnats-to-be-free world, the media play an important role. But in the practical, real world, people are people, and too many want to be players.

Have you ever wondered why newspapers' editorial boards, claiming objectivity and impartiality, endorse candidates? And have you noticed that the papers' editors and publishers are involved in every political and economic happening in town, no matter how big or small the town? (Really: I'll bet someone from your local newspaper is on your local chamber of commerce board of directors. Look it up. I'll wait.)

The thing I'm continually re-learning is that the news media are never just the news media. They're an institution with a skin in the game, just like everybody else.

Posted by: NJConservative at August 03, 2010 04:42 PM (LH6ir)

That's true, but the problem isn't that he's gay, it's that his being gay may very well be part of his motivations and therefore should be part of any honest reporting on the issue.  The fact that the MFM are totally ignoring something that is so obviously a relevant fact as one starts in the investigation just goes to show how far the MFM will go to protect any homosexuals and the homosexual agenda - to the point of lending aid and comfort to a traitor, not that anyone is really surprised by that.

Sure, a heterosexual can have a break-up and do the same sort of stuff (like the diapered astronaut), but the relationship, itself, and the circumstances surrounding it would be the object of much attention in the investigation and media reports, as it should be.  Here ... silence.  "Just a guy.  Decided to release secrets.  That's all.  No reason why."

That attitude is not just mis-reporting what traitors like Osama Obama, Manning, and the rest are doing, but is enabling them. Encouraging them.

Wonder why there are no white race-hustlers like Jackson? They probably exist, but they are either in jail or totally ineffective, even if they follow the Jackson pattern exactly.

Wonder why the Traitor-in-Chief has his talons hooked into the presidency? Would anyone else have escaped scrutiny or had his treasonous mouthings ignored the way he did?

What about an effort to build a church in Mecca? Hell, no; decent Americans would consider it a low-class move, and the libs (who support the NY mosque as a "healing measure") would be howling like Pissy Chrissy Matthews about the arrogance of Christians defiling a Holy Place.

It's later than we think. A whole hell of a lot of Americans absorb the shit the media spew out as absolute fact.

I think this nation will split.  Then again, I think this nation voted for Suicide by Indonesian in 2008.

But, the nation would not be at this point if it weren't, specifically, for the Indonesian Imbecile and his glee at pushing every un-American, non-American, anti-American policy and attitude he could think of.  It was ony his third-world attitude that allowed this much damage to be done, which almost no natural born American, no matter how left or how much they wanted, would have even thought to do.  Shrillary was fairly easily turned back in her attempt to ram health scare down our throats.  She knew the cultural limits of our legislative bodies and sub-consciously was held there.

The Precedent has been actively trying to break our system, which anyone with a brain knew that the MFM was going to fully support and champion all the way, and the Washington junta decided to aid and abet him in that, as they saw so many dollars thrown around in the Porkulus they were allowed to write and the other huge legislative elephants they were put in charge of.  The damage they have all done is very much irreparable.

Dude! Day #2 on beeper duty. What happened?

Posted by: Blue Hen at August 03, 2010 04:54 PM (R2fpr)

The vast majority of crime is not that sexy.  For any one crime of any actual interest, there are hundreds of, "Dude, these are my girlfriends pants.  I didn't know that dope was in the pocket."

Regarding the incident I wrote about, the victim (the fauxmale) didn't want to press charges due to the sensitive nature of the incident.  He wasn't anywhere nearly as injured as he might have been.  Therefore I was called in to approve an affidavit in support of a search warrant for his house, the scene of the crime.

I later got to know him.  I sent him to prison a couple of times.  He really wasn't a bad guy (at least compared to some of the really bad guys I got to know).  He was just sexually confused with a raging alcoholism problem.  On both occasions that I sent him to prison, the charge was aggravated habitual traffic offender; i.e., driving drunk after a whole lot of other driving drunk.  Last I heard (maybe ten years ago), he was out of prison, on the wagon, and waiting for sex re-assignment surgery.

Because of the victim's disinclination to cooperate, the defendant got a better deal than he deserved.  Although as on-call DDA I had approved the affidavit, I wasn't assigned the case and I have forgotten the details of the plea agreement if I ever knew them.

I don't give a flying fig what his damn motivations were.   The scumbucket is a damn traitor, and he should be put against a wall & shot, at the very least.   We all know that won't happen though.   Those in this administration and all their cronies on the left will feel sorry for the little asswipe, and spend more energy trying to figure out how they can help him get over his emotional problems than bringing him to justice.

Just wait...while Ace is concerned that we're not being told all this pertinent crap by the MFM, now that it's starting to get out, pretty soon that's all we're going to hear about...  DADT and how this probably never would have happened if he could have been openly gay in the military, and after that whether the taxpayers should pay for having his damn dick being cut off and made into a vajajay.   The SOB enlisted for crap's sake.   He knew what the hell he was getting into.

I have no sympathy what-so-ever.

Any time a homosexual does something that is routine and expected in a decent society, it is magnified by the MSM to demonstrate how wonderful all homosexuals are.

If for no other reason than the sake of symmetry it is important to note prominently and often that Manning is a homosexual.

140  I hear you.

For one thing, this isn't at all about gays in the military -- it's about treason.  There are plenty of queers in the services...they don't commit treason, and plenty of straight people do.

That this might have been Manning's motivation -- I'm not buying it completely.  Yeah, it might have been the hook, like I said, but ultimately that isn't what caused him to do what he did...he's just a fucking traitor.  And the MICES are equal opportunity anyway.

I'm not buying the hacker wannabe bullshit either -- by their nature intell people and the like are kinda hackeresque or should be.  That motivation makes them good at what they do.  Doesn't mean they are all traitors or potential traitors.

This was a case of no loyalty -- and that's a hard thing to evaluate until crunch time (it is easy however to enforce after the fact -- yeah, I want this little bastard questioned and then dead).

143 Posted by: progressoverpeace at August 03, 2010 05:09 PM (Qp4DT) What interests me is if the country splits, how will it split? It won't be North and South. Will it Balkanize where different ethnicities and religions band together? If it's strictly along an ideological line it's essentially big city versus everything else. Even a conservative state like Texas has leftist cities. Who would the military back? Without clear dividing lines such as North and South how will people know where to go or who is an ally? What civil wars will it resemble? What difference will the huge advances in technology since the last war of independence make on any new war? It's all a very interesting and confusing situation. And sadly, it isn't going to be theoretical much longer if Confederate Yankee is correct. So what I'm really asking is... if I move to Provo and SHTF will I be seen as the other and murdered by cannibal Mormons? Or will it be a safe haven?

147 The whole "information wants to be free" thing is a ruse. There was a hacker movement in the late 1990's early 2000's that released copyright material over the web because they felt copyright kept information from the people. Not stuff like what Mannig leaked; but the material of authors and composers.  Supposedly copyright laws oppressed the underclass. On newsgroups you'd see cross posts between literary groups and alt.trostsky.news arguing the matter.  At one point Steve Sterling said he'd like to see the pirates ass-raped in prison for publishing worked he'd literally "sweated blood over".

This is the first time I have heard that phrase used in this context.  The "leaker" philosophy is that if everyone knew all that was going on in warfare then there would be no more war.  That so-called "Transparency Leaks" will shatter states as the people...now knowing the truth...rise up against the state.  It's bullshit Bakunin-esque anarchy.

150 However, a criminal's stated reason for his crime is rarely congruent with his actual reason.

When I was on jury duty, not a single crook ever said, "Well, I wanted the money, and working at a job is too hard."  It was always, "I needed money to feed my crippled sister!" and other such.

I understand that his sexuality may be involved with his treason, but I see it as an ancillary point. The fact is that he is a traitor. He is gay, and may be rationalizing his treason by claiming some imagined grievance against our country. But....I just don't think that it is important.

The reality is that there is no reason good enough to commit treason.

152 144 Good point.  I'm afraid that a lot of this rests on the heads of those in society that think "information needs to be free" and those who think "resistance to the Man" is patriotic -- maybe that's an indictment of our society at large.

Posted by: unknown jane at August 03, 2010 01:44 PM (5/yRG)

153 The "information wants to be free" sounds like a killer defense on "Judge Judy". I too remember those arguments from Usenet and Dalnet. They never made much sense to me. Typically one would argue that "if information was free more people could use it more effectively". Well, like, how to prevent STDs is blasted all over the place and still, here are human after human infecting more humans with STDs. Do they lack information? Or, would they just rather climax than protect themselves? If the information was more free would it be any better? That one ended like most. FOAD you, FOAD everyone. See you tomorrow? Cool.

154 If guy is a traitor it doesn't if he's gay or straight, I don't remember people blaming straights for giving us a long history of married spies.  Personally I don't even blame straights for giving us crime, drugs and poverty (*see i can do statistical perversion).

For one thing lets remember that all we have is leaked information from the case, none of us seem to know the guy, so trying to pick apart his psyche and have a gotcha moment is pretty pointless.  Tens of thousands of gays work and fight in the military everyday they get shit on and still show up for duty every day lets not forget that in this group hunt for answers.

155 The issue is not that the gayness; the issue is that the MFM won't mention the fact of gayness, even though it could be relevant, because the fact interferes with their agenda.

I agree with you.  I don't think his being gay had anything to do with his decision to commit treason.  But, it was one of the central facts of his circumstances.  That's all.  No one would really think to omit it, unless they were intentionally trying to suppress it.

Hetero males get taken by hot spies, all the time.  Sex is very powerful stuff.  Shit, people would still give those Russian chicks some info, for a little play, knowing that they are spies (at least the first one) and they aren't even that hot.  Cute, but nothing outstanding.

159 It really doesn't matter what his motivation was to me. He downloaded data from secure computers and gave that data to an asshole for the sole reason of seeing it published.

That act has placed numerous people in direct harm's way. Those are both our own troops and our friends who have helped us.

If a single individual is shown to be killed as a result of his actions then he should be executed.

161 Is Manning even gay? The "Humanist" angle has more appeal to me. He says he is one which, to me, is an abstract way of saying I don't take a position on anything except that if you're alive you have the right to remain alive unless you choose to end your own life.

165 >>>In my research on google to make a joke, I subsequently learned that Pinto Amadeus (Tom Hulce) is gay, Clive Barker is gay I thought the Clive Barker thing was well-known (assuming you know who he is in the first place). Didn't know that about Amadeus Pinto.

166 If this guy had ever attended a tea party, that info would be all over the place in the MFM.  Whether or not his gayness motivated his treason, he needs to be swinging from the end of a rope over it.  Period.

Want to see the MFM turn against Wikileaks? Have them publish Obama's college scores. Or his records from law school. Or information who actually paid for his education. Or his goddamned birth certificate - and no, I'm not a birther, but it would amuse me greatly to see it leaked. Or the records of his travel abroad. Or, hell, anything else that The One wants kept hidden. On that day, the MFM, that bastion of openness and enlightenment, would see them shut down in a picosecond.

You have to remember: we're at war, and they're on the other side.

169 "Didn't know that about Amadeus Pinto." Man, I heard that back in 1995. Carrie Fisher's baby daddy dumped her for Pinto.

From what I recall, there is a long history of homosexuals becoming traitors. Call it a tendency. People try to dismiss it, but it is there. I used to have a book which covered this, but I haven't seen it in years. Suffice it to say, for Heterosexuals to turn traitor in equivalent ratios to their homosexual brethren, they would have to be something like ten times the current level of magnitude.

Does no one recall the Cambridge club in England?
