I recall back as late as '08 my carry on (laptop bag) would get pulled aside for an extra check because of all the ethernet cables, serial cables, etc in the bag that I'd need for work. Haven't had that happen since maybe '09.

The last time I flew, it was out of Dayton OH. I actually got pulled aside for an extra pat down and a trace chemical check on my hands. Because the mild mannered white guy is the real problem, sure. The TSA r-tard doing the check seemed all too giddy to delay me an extra five minutes at the check out.

I'm happy that I get to fly out of smaller airports for business 90% of the time, so I haven't run into the body scanners yet. But its only a matter of time.

Actualy, I don't think they CAN destroy the images, as IF they caught someone through using the scan, they would be evidence.

My experience at LAX was waiting for screening. A twenty something guy a few places ahead of me said something which I couldn't quite hear and a TSA guy in his 50's came running over, got literally about 3 inches from his face and began bellowing "Do you want to fly today? Do you? Do you?" over and over, drill seargent style, while glaring anyone near him and directing it at the rest of us from time to time. Breathing hard and almost snorting. He was in a true rage.

I had said or done nothing, but when this dude let fly, I could have pissed my pants.

Everyone around me was staring at their shoes and not daring to move.

My experience with the TSA hiring process was that it was thorough but it was excessively bureaucratic.  First I had to apply online including supplying copies of my DD-214s then there was a screening test which is covered by NDA, but I think I can say that half of it was interpreting the images from the x-ray machines, and it was a lot harder than it looks.  I don't really think I can say anything about the other portions.  You also have to have a medical screening, and finally I had to fill out the same paperwork that I did when I had got my security clearance in the Navy.  TSA screeners may not be the best and brightest but at this point they aren't just hiring warm bodies. 

I also at one time worked for a security company that had the contract to run the screening points in my hometown (worked for them twice actually 10 years part) they did just throw warm bodies into that position, and when TSA took over some of them were grandfathered in but I know at least half have been fired since then.

I received a farewell groping from Chicago O'Hare TSA last Thursday.   

Before going through the bodyscan/metal detector, the TSA people put me to one side between the metal detector and the scanner and told me to stand facing the lines of people passing me through both machines.  I stood there several minutes while my wallet and other items went through the machine. 

I was ignored for a few minutes until two new guys came up to me, took me by the arm, stopped the metal detector line and escorted me through.  They asked me if someone was taking care of my property.  I responded that I didn't know because I was not allowed to proceed through the line with it.

Then the two guys took me to the center of three little foot print search mats about 30 feet directly in front and center of all the other security lines, so people in line were all facing me.  I asked my wife to secure my property as I passed, but she could not come back into the designated area at the end of the machine, so there it sat. 

The TSA guys repeatedly asked if I wanted a private screening room, but I said no.  In my line of work, I've been thoroughly and professionally patted down innumerable times, so I just told them to get on with it.  The young TSA guys repeatedly warned me that they were going to pat down "sensitive areas"  The patdown was thorough, but slow.   At one point I attempted to untuck my shirt to assist the search, but they firmly instructed me to keep my hands out to the sides.  I've never had the waistband of my pants turned over and examined so carefully and slowly, though.  That's when they advised me that they were putting their hands inside the waistband of my pants and clothing.

I clearly functioned as an example to anyone who might be selected for special treatment.  I was made to face the huge crowd of people standing in line nearly all of whom were watching the pat down.  Kind of a spectacle.

On the return trip on Sunday, I was selected for the body scan.  In my opinion, the pat down is less invasive with no attendant health risks, but I didn't want to delay getting to my flight.

I am still amazed that people put up with this stuff on a regular basis, but if you want to fly you have no choice.  Watching grown people from all walks of life wander around in their socks with their shoes, clothing and personal property in garbage bins at the direction of low level government functionaries is absurd.

 I don't know about Nuns and 3 year olds but I do know that in Israel there is a fairly substantial number of suicide bombings committed by kids.  I also kind of recall a case about 4 years ago where the Israeli's caught a woman going thru a checkpoint with explosives in her babies stroller and there was a security alert in NY for the same thing.  That turned out to be a false alarm but using kids as bomb couriers has been considered at least once.

Off topic war story:  Ten years ago I was asked to charge a sex assault against a worker at a community corrections facility.  Community corrections is like long term work release.  The inmates can't drive so they are driven to work.  Among this guy's duties was to drive inmates to work.

One of the inmates was a reasonably attractive young women.  She told the cops that this guy had put the moves on her, was fondling her, and the next thing she knew, he was sitting there without benefit of pants.  She said that he altered his pants so that they closed with Velcro so that he could strip down in no time.  I thought that this couldn't be right.  Nobody would do that.  But then his side of the story was yeah, he had those easy access pants.  When you're getting hot and heavy and down to business, you can't be fumbling around with buttons and zippers and what not.  You've got to be able go, baby, go!

I flew home to see my family in October. I did the body scan thing and I got a pat down as well..and I am a 59 year old woman. I did not have a fit, because I knew when I got the ticket that this is the kind of crap you go through at the airport.

I am sure that some of the people that work for the TSA are bullying idiots, but most of them are just regular people with a not so great job and no doubt they get their asses chewed out if they don't do a lot of this stuff.

Americans need to draw a line in the sand; Boycott airlines: that would get TSA's attention and stockholders of airlines. Meanwhile, not just pilots and flight attendants,  “ordinary air passengers” should also be afforded privacy when physically searched at public airports.

382 I recently flew out of Dayton Ohio airport.  They have no body scanners.  I did not have baggy pants on - actually my jeans were a little tight.  The TSA guy ordered me to lift up my shirt.  He then puts his hands in my pants and went all the way around.  I felt humiliated.  It was just very creepy having him put his hands there.  I imagine he was trying to look down my underwear.  And what is really messed up is that in first and business class seating on international flights everyone gets 2 real knives and a real fork.  The flight attendants have a half dozen wine bottles.  The man puts his hands in my pants looking for a weapon, I fly to Chicago, get on an international flight, and then they put two metal knives on my plate.  These people have lost their minds.
