2 A 65 y.o. Court Security Officer was killed and a Deputy US Marshal was wounded. The shooter was also killed. Last I heard, the shooter was dressed in black fatigues and carrying a shotgun.

7 I heard the audio from the gunshots on the radio news. Holy crap, it sounded like a war zone! I haven't heard anymore info since this morning, though.

I would not be surprised, in fact disappointed, if the federal marshalls didn't have an MP5/UMP at hand. Or at least lots of hi-cap magazines. I have no problem with them shooting up the mutt.

21 Wow. I was just there last week. I spent two nights at the Golden Gate casino which is just around the corner on Fremont. I drove by the Courthouse at least a couple times. I wonder if it's the same dude who tried to sell me a case of beer on for 10 bucks on the street.

I sure as hell wouldn't have just stood there filming it. Gunshots in rural area = OK. Gunshots in urban area = get behind cover and prepare to shoot back, there's a psycho on the loose (unless it's just a Moron mowing down hobos in an alley).

In San Diego the lights are really long. Some of them are on sensors; those are short.

40 Longer take on this up at SR - but the basics: Guy was 66y.o. African American, pissed that his combined benefits (SSI/State supplement) had gone from 880 to 128 bucks a month - and that his lawsuit claiming it was a civil rights violation as the reduction was because he was black got tossed out. Seems he'd gotten a reduction of supplemental STATE benefits in California, which then ended completely when he moved to Nevada, which has NO supplemental. This probably all sounded like apparatchik geek speak to him, so he yelled (filed) RACISM! and, well, that didn't work for him. So he set fire to the retirement home he'd been in, and took a shotgun to the courthouse. It's our Liberal/Progressive Utopian dream being realized right before our eyes, kids!

If you could come to work with me one day and hear the sense of entitlement that people have, you would want to bitch slap some of your fellow 'Americans.'

I did a consult on a guy several days ago who spent the entire visit complaining about the low quality of the 'benefits' (read welfare) in our state. He is 50 and clearly able to work. Why should his fellow citizens work their asses off to give him free stuff? He was a little vague on the details of that.

At least once a week I am consulting on someone asking for disability for basically being too fat to work. They hide this under a variety of related complaints, but the bottom line is: too fat to work.

No wonder with the sense of entitlement, now and then someone goes off the deep end like this.
