Video Metaphor of the Day
— Ace

Via American Elephant, urging you to vote-- particularly if you're in a Blue State or blue district and your "vote doesn't count." Oh, this year, yeah, it does -- there is a nontrivial chance your vote will end up making the difference. There are seats that haven't been polled at all all cycle, and no one knows where the incumbent is in these situations.

You combine:

1) An already depressed/unenthusiastic Democratic base, with

2) Democrats just assuming their vote isn't even needed anyway, with

3) Pissed off independents casting what they think is a protest vote, with

4) Republican voters, generally self-suppressing owing to feelings of futility, suddenly coming out of the woodwork to vote, and you've got a major unexpected bonus-damage upset on your hands.

This is why Karen Harrington just might beat Debbie Wasserman-Schultz in FL-20, or John Dennis really could -- really could -- retire Nancy Pelosi a few months ahead of her preferred schedule.

Its over for them now, they shot their wad in 08 and now people get it, it will be generations before people are angry and blinded enough to fall for it again. 48 Two questions:

1.) I live in Delaware, and while Christine O'Donnell has fairly slim chance of winning, if by some chance she wins, what is the proper way for me to go about quoting Mel Gibson to my O'Donnell-hating co-workers?  I'm thinking something along the lines of the classic "You will apologize, smile and BLOW ME!  In that order!"

2.) I have a bottle of Herradura Anejo tequila waiting to celebrate tomorrow.  To all the tequila/booze snobs: what's the correct way to drink good tequila?  Obviously not shots, but neat?  On the rocks?  With lime and salt?

Posted by: Hoss Fuentes at November 01, 2010 03:36 PM (cgtPQ)

49 I think some people don't vote because there are issues they haven't researched, and they think it's all or nothing.

But voting isn't the SAT.  It's OK to skip questions.

50 Love the vid. Perfect metaphor.

I am so friggin excited I can't stand it and I'm freaking out because I have class tomorrow night and all I really want to do is be at home, in front of the t.v.,  laptop at the tips of my fingers.

Whereas football fans take the Monday after Superbowl off from work, I've chosen to take off Wednesday instead. Between staying up on AoS, waiting for all the polls to close and the up and downs that are bound to follow, I'm thinking I'll need a day to recover.

Then again, Thursday is the day I should really take off. By then, the reality will have set in that the big steaming pile that O and The Firm have created will belong to the Repubs. And O will be trying to tear them down at every possible turn, even before they are sworn in.

52 I was feeling ever so slightly cheated in that I live in a very conservative district in very conservative Alabama, so my vote isn't really going to make much of a difference (not that I'd skip it, not a chance!). Then I remembered how much fun it is to just run the score up.

53 Question-How many seats do the Dems have to lose tomorrow in order to A) Generate a primary opponent for Obama, or B) Preclude his run at reelection?

They're going to lose at least 70 seats and cede the Permanent Democratic Majority of '08 That Was Supposed to Last Forever and Ever and Ever, so I'd say the writing's already on the wall for Barry.

He'll run again, but it ain't looking good for him at all.  He has neither the instincts nor the brains to save his own ass the way Clinton did post-'94.

61 I think we all need to just take a second here and calm down. If the worst happens, and we don't take the House, I don't want any suicide attempts. Just breathe. Maybe we'll only get 40 seats in the House and 3 or 4 seats in the Senate. We just need to mentally prepare for this possibility, just for a second. Let's all remind ourselves that the world doesn't end if we don't take the House. Please...?

62 If you are an American citizen, there is no excuse not to vote.

I'm going to dissent respectfully.  There are a lot of real, live, over-18 people born here who have no fucking business voting.  The list includes but is not limited to: people voting because the cute chick with the clipboard signed them up, people who get all their information about candidates/legislation from celebrities, people who can't name the two houses of the U.S. Congress, the mentally-incapacitated people from the group home getting their ballots filled out by "volunteers", etc, etc.

Sure, they're all legally able to vote.  But they shouldn't.

Alright, time to go watch some beisbol and then the Colts beat up on the local joke of an NFL team.

The Colts are going to have a tough time of it.  They're running out of players.

98 #50,Hoss my friend,I will be voting along with you tomorrow. It may be a slim chance but nothing is impossible.I don't think o'jugears and plugs were here for nothing. The lack of polling here tells me something good is going to happen.Maybe I'm wrong but stranger things have happened.

I figure if Obama came to stump for Coon's twice, the polling is much worse than the whores at the News Journal portray it.

You know who he's going to give a super-special election day interview to?  YOU'LL NEVER GUESS.

...

Okay, I'll tell you.

RYAN. FUCKING. SEACREST.

He won't give an interview to the #1 Cable News network in America, but he will clear his calendar to make room for Seacrest!

No, we're going to take the House.  There isn't even a question of it.  There isn't even the possibility we won't.  And I say that as a chronic skeptic.  The Democrats are just that fucked.

The only question is whether fraud keeps the Republicans to their floor of 50+ pickups.

My vote "won't count" in the House race- I live in the destable Keith Ellison's district, and his Republican opponent has seemingly funded his campaign with change he found under the couch cushions.  At least he threw his hat in the ring- nobody else was even interested in running against Ellison.

Very much want to see Dayton lose in the governor race though- how anyone could consider voting for the man named in the top 5 worst Senators is beyond me.  He chose not to even try to run for Senate again because he knew he'd lose... in Minnesota.

116 Here's what I want tomorrow: at least 55 House seats, and a 7 or 8 Senate pickup. It will be hard for Obama to spin "Republican obstruction" if the Dems still have a majority in the Senate.
