— DrewM The science is settled and the glaciers in the Himalayas are melting! That's what the the world body in charge of scaring the hell out of everyone, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, has been saying for the last two years.
Turns out the science this dire prediction was based on wasn't so much science as, speculation by some guy no one ever really heard of and originally reported in a non-peer reviewed magazine.
The super awesome climate folks who know everything, never make mistakes and can predict with such certainty the climate in a hundred years or so, included this bit of "settled science" in an IPCC report.
In the past few days the scientists behind the warning have admitted that it was based on a news story in the New Scientist, a popular science journal, published eight years before the IPCC's 2007 report. It has also emerged that the New Scientist report was itself based on a short telephone interview with Syed Hasnain, a little-known Indian scientist then based at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.
Hasnain has since admitted that the claim was "speculation" and was not supported by any formal research. If confirmed it would be one of the most serious failures yet seen in climate research. The IPCC was set up precisely to ensure that world leaders had the best possible scientific advice on climate change.
Professor Murari Lal, who oversaw the chapter on glaciers in the IPCC report, said he would recommend that the claim about glaciers be dropped: "If Hasnain says officially that he never asserted this, or that it is a wrong presumption, than I will recommend that the assertion about Himalayan glaciers be removed from future IPCC assessments."
The head of the IPCC had in the past called disagreement with the alarmist claim as "voodoo science". Ooops.
Be sure to visit your favorite Global Warming site to see if this is a "nontroversy" or if they simply ignore it.

But he can't be bothered picking up the phone himself, you understand. So it stays until Hasnain fills out an official Form Oopsies.
Which I'm sure won't affect Hasnain's career or future funding in the least.
Until then, those glaciers are IPCC-certified toast.

Also they have found that two of the temp monitoring agencies in the U.S. are linked with CRU in fudging the temp data.
The flood gates are openeing on this fraud. They simply could not keep the fraud secret much longer and in the face of 3 record setting cold winters and a mild summer people are questioning hwo tit could be possible.
They have also seen how much the media lies to them so they are more willing to disbelieve what they are being told. The media has cut its own throat by the "leg tingles" for Obama.

ACtually global warming was a crackpot theory developed by a couple of idiots back in the 40s. Margret Thatcher latched on to it and bugged Reagan and the others about it all the meetings.
Reagan thought he coould shut her up by setting up the panel of "scientists" in the U.N. who would debunk the theory once and for all. Little did he know that the 3rd world despots would join forces with the 1st world communists to push the "science" to advance communism.
Global warming has NEVER been about real science.

Well, alexthechick, yes. The problem is, I can't make the head nor tail of how the actual data relates to the claims. Or how their models work.
The truly spectacular claims never seem to be borne out by the evidence said claims are based on. So far as I, a non-scientist who can actually read, can tell, anyway.

And there's the Aussie state weather monitors who ignored four of five (IIRC) real-life monitoring stations and instead took the hottest one and used it to extrapolate the temperatures for the other four stations!
And here's more information about the U.S. stations' analysers linked to the CRU lies. (Including Canadian and Bolivian thermometers removed from the data-sets like the Siberian ones were in the recent past.)

"Forward, the Light Worker Brigade!"
Was there a moonbat dismay'd?
Not tho' the bureaucrat knew
Someone had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to twist and lie:

Penciled in margins;

Boldly they changed the kit,
Into the database of Fraud,
Into the mouth of Fools
Wrote the six hundred.
4.
Flash'd all their peer reviews,
Flash'd as they plotted the stew,
Smearing the skeptics there,
Charging an arm and a leg
All the world wonder'd:
Plunged in the mirrors-smoke
Right thro' the data with a stroke;
Skeptics and Deniers
Reel'd from the crap they wrote
Shatter'd and sunder'd.
Then they wrote back but alas
Hackers had found their ass
5.
Data to right of them,
Data to left of them,
Data in front of them
Penciled in margins;
Storm'd at with temps that wont fit,
While reps and temperatures fell,
They that had scammed so well
Caught in the jaws of Defeat
Back from the mouth of victory,
All that was left of them,
Left of the warmers.
6.
When can their BS be forgotten?
O the wild charges they made!
All the world wondered.
Wise to the charges they made,

Best line of Brown's:
As an attorney, I believe that our Constitution and laws exist to protect this nation – they do not grant rights and privileges to enemies in wartime. In dealing with terrorists, our tax dollars should pay for weapons to stop them, not lawyers to defend them.

Thanks for the on the ground intell. I'll bet it was great to be there! I haven't seen the reports on the heckler other than here, but I guarantee that a ten year old could challenge The One. My son gets in so much trouble with his teachers in school because of his conservative bent. You'd think he would want to back off. Last month he said,"Do we have a copy of Glen Beck's Common Sense?" I got him one and he is still getting in trouble.

The people who presumed he was a "RINO" were the peole who live by Internet definitions of things, with no clue about the real world. They hear "Massachusetts" and they think "Liberal". Nothing else is allowed into their brains. It makes it easy to spot the posers.

Well, speaking as a part-time climate scientist, I would just like to point out, in defense of the full-time climate scientists, that it really wasn't so much the data that was peer reviewed, but the premises.
For example, if we wanted to get together and talk climate science, we would all meet and break out the bong, eat a few Alice B Toklas and talk science. Inevitably, someone would bring up something like, "Oh wow, man, ya wanna know how the world was made?" And we would just say, "Yer so f--ked up, man," and we'd all laugh and giggle for a while. But every now and then, someone would say something like, "Ya know something, man? I think that all that gas and shit that we put in our cars, man, well that shit doesn't just dissappear, man. It prolly goes up in the atmashfere and shit and f--ks it all up, and shit." At which point, someone else would say, "Far f--king out, man!" and someone else would say, "Right on, man! Damn straight!"
That's what we really me by peer review.
Just thought you'd like to know.

Anyway, I read that if Brown wins, the Dems will try to rush through Obamacare. They are saying, "unless we pass this we are screwed in 2010.
Um, how exactly will passing a bill the majority hates that has been negotiated with bribes and secrecy help you in 2010? If you pass this stinking POS you are gonna get killed.
The Dems have actually believed that steaming pile Clinton sold them. If Brown wins it is a REFERENDUM that America DOES NOT want Obamacare so the dems take it to mean the MUST now pass it?

Because the Dems aren't stupid - they know if they start the Hell-care machinery now, there's nothing the Republicans can do at least until 2012 (assuming they get the Presidency and that they have a sizable majority in Congress). And will they even be able to get rid of all of it? Probably not.
At least in the end, there will be only chaos.

#169...
Dunno. Missed it. I turned over to 60 Minutes and watched the segment on American Samoa and their impact upon the NFL.
65k people in the entire nation yet they have 30 players in the NFL and 200 playing Division I football. They do not play football until high school and of the six high schools on the island, none have modern equipment or locker rooms and most do not have actual fields to play on and the few fields that do exist are covered with rocks.
Oh! And the average household income there is around $4k a year so, guess what happened in 2009 when the US government interevened to lessen their plight by forcing minimum wage on them?
That's right....
Their only inustry, big tuna, closed up and moved out.
Now add a major earthquake and a tsnuami on top of it all and it makes me feel what could be called, at least, an equal amount of sympathy for American Samoa as for Haiti.
