Voting Begins
— Ace

This is just the vote as to whether they should have the vote. Paul Ryan objected to the bill on the grounds it constituted an illegal unfunded mandate. They'l be voting that down now.

Good God, they're going to do it.

Lynch Still Being Lobbied: Lynch is a NYS MA Democrat who flipped from Yes to No this week over the Cadillac tax. Does this mean they don't have the votes? Or they just want to make sure?

He sat on the balcony, just off the floor sporting Ray Bans sunglasses. Clinton told him to support the bill. He said he told her he's still a "no", but thought it wouldn't matter because he's hearing that Democrats are close to securing 216.

I guess we'll know soon.

Voting Goes Forward: 228-195.

Actually, I'm not sure that was the vote to have a vote. It was a vote on Paul Ryan's objection, which was rejected.

5 "100 seats lost by dems in November?"

No, and it wouldn't make much of a difference long term. Short term pleasure for long term pain (from a freedom and economic solvency point of view).

30 Pomeroy's voting yes.  That's 20 dollars to berg, his opponent, that i'll be donating today.  Time to start the process to clean out all these weasels in November.  Every blue dog needs to go and every lazy liberal who thinks they never would be in a serious race.  Donate directly to their opponents.

Posted by: cheesestands at March 21, 2010 10:52 AM (RC7LR)

33 "He's looking more and more like Presidential material. If anything good comes out of this entire crapfest, it might just be someone who has strong appeal* and knows how to get this entire bill escorted to the Congressional shredder come 2012."

You're right about that.

Posted by: Christoph at March 21, 2010 10:52 AM (0fq7b)

34 If just 1% of the democrats turned out to be 5th columnists who promised faux yeses and plan on flipping so they'll still have a chance at reelection, there would be hope.

Seriously, who would want to be badgered by Pelosi 7x24 to flip?  Its a lot easier to let your office staff take a little heat about the faux-yes position.

Maybe this is just fantasy, but I think there might be a couple out there playing this kind of game.  If I were dem, its precisely what I'd be doing.

36 Paul Ryan objected to the bill on the grounds it constituted an illegal unfunded mandate.

That's a nice surprise, as Ryan has never really raised Constitutional objections to this, before - not that I ever heard.  I don't fault Ryan so much, though, as the GOP generally seem embarrassed to base their arguments on Constitutionality.

Posted by: progressoverpeace at March 21, 2010 10:53 AM (A46hP)

37 Cummings won't lose, better to send your money to other races across the country that we can win.

40 Silver lining:  When our pharma industry goes in the shitter, Canadians like our friend Christoph are gonna feel it.  We have long subsidized their drug costs, as the Canadians and others have been able to make lowball offers.  Our pharma companies basically have to go along and take what they can get, or face the prospect of a foreign gov't producing its own generic version at the drop of a hat.  But if they stop developing new stuff, then the free ride stops up North. At least that's my layman's understanding, which may or may not be entirely accurate.

41 Today is March 21. On this day in 1804, the Napoleanic Code was enacted into French law. It is fitting that on the very day that this bastion of free government was first enacted, a milestone in the destruction of free government will be declared into law, and be referred to by the intelligentsia as "progress."

Perhaps in a more fitting anniversary, on March 21, 1933, the construction of the Dachau concentration camp was completed.

Posted by: Onlooker at March 21, 2010 10:58 AM (M3hG/)

42 Constitutional or not, is still SUCKS!

Just argue that its a bullshit law.... I can't believe that the mandate gets north of 30% support when explained to voters.

Posted by: Smapty at March 21, 2010 10:58 AM (bAySe)

43 Unfunded mandates are like spending without having to pay anything.  And all spending is stimulus, isn't it?  Everybody knows that.

Now it's time for a hard pivot.

To me.

52 Today is March 21. On this day in 1804, the Napoleonic Code was enacted into French law. It is fitting that on the very day that this bastion of free government was first enacted Ironically, the Code Napoléon specifically denies citizens of many of the rights we take for granted. For example, the French gubmint has much larger powers of search and seizure than we do. The defendant in court does not have the automatic presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Hell, no.  If it passes, it doesn't matter how they voted.  I don't care whether they were genuine or not.  Democrats lie, they are corrupt, they have no regard for their constituents and they are a fiscal nightmare.

I don't care how conservative they say they are or how they voted.  They must all go down.  You can't trust them.

The purpose of the list is to find the most effective way of taking out the most of them.  There's no point wasting a shitload of money trying to take down conyers when it could cost us taking out say a baron hill and bill owens.

61 "Is there an exception for multi-millionaires?  If you literally have enough money to buy your own hospital, what's the point of health ins.?"

To control individual people's lives. In Canada, for example, it is illegal to purchase covered services directly from a doctor.

So we have long waiting lists, and people with means go the the United States for quick, quality care.

The theory is it's okay to spend 1.6 million dollars on the top end sports car in the world, but spending 40,000 to help your mom get necessary knee surgery so she's not in pain all the time during her last few years alive is unfair.
