WaPo wakes up realizing Obama treats the media like a used condom
— Purple Avenger

This Dana Milbank piece is pretty revealing.

...Even the Chinese president, Hu Jintao, was more talkative with the press than Obama. Michelle Jamrisko, with Japan's Kyodo News, noted in her pool report that Hu, at his session with Obama, spoke to the Chinese media in Chinese, while Obama limited himself mostly to "say hello to the cameras" and "thank you everybody."

Obama's official schedule for Tuesday would have pleased China's Central Committee. Excerpts: "The President will attend the Heads of Delegation working lunch. This lunch is closed press. . . . The President will meet with Prime Minster Erdogan of Turkey. This meeting is closed press. . . . The President will attend Plenary Session II of the Nuclear Security Summit. This session is closed press."...

Obama hasn't held an open question free wheeling press conference something like 9 months...which is not surprising since TOTUS isn't much help in an unscripted environment. The press recently took note of this extended avoidance "gap" noting also that its become a longer avoidance gap than Bush v2.0 ever had in 8 years.

Occam's razor suggests the simple answer for why Obama has been stiff arming and ducking the press with increasing frequency -- they served their purpose as "useful idiots" and he no longer needs them now that he realizes he's going to be a 1-term president. FWIW, this is textbook NPD behavior. Narcissists use people and discard them like used condoms when they're no longer useful.

To be sure, there's still legions of media out there eagerly gobbling that delicious strawberry flavored O-knob, but the realization they were played like a Steinway is slowly dawning on some and that trend can only increase.

Right now, most of them are like a wife who found a receipt from a cheap motel across town in her husband's jacket pocket and really want to believe it was just because he was too tired to drive home after work that day he claimed he had to work late. Most are still in denial, but this will change.

Initially of course, all these "press access issues" will be blamed on his primary handlers, Axelrod and Emanuel, and Obama might even fire them as a result to buy some time -- everyone is expendable to a narcissist. Everyone.

As time goes on, and the same issues keep occurring with the replacements, the media will find it harder and harder to maintain their stock excuses for Obama's behavior. It might take well into year 3 before this final realization happens.

9 Their psychological denial is well-hardened, with layers of defenses:

"If we just suck up harder maybe he'll like us!"

"Sure, he's screwing over those other reporters, but he still really likes ME!"

"It's all the fault of FOX News!  They hurt his feelings and the rest of us have to suffer for it!"

"If Obama only knew about this he'd put a stop to it!"

"I've failed him!  I must do better!"

11 At the end of the day most mainstream journalists would rather see Obama succeed at shoving his leftist agenda down our throats than they would like to do their jobs, so I really don't think this will have any impact on much of anything.  And, as was pointed out earlier, a bunch of them are vying for book deals and/or jobs in the administration, so it's really in their personal best interests to keep pumping Barry up with the public.  Their industry is dying so they need new jobs in government.

14 It's pretty simple really.

The more the man opens his mouth, the less people like him.

He proved that every single time he actually did hold a press conference.  He's absolutely bankrupt of any CLEAR statements, minus the racial undertones, and finger in the eye quotes.  He contradicts his contradictions.  When he's finished talking, I never know if he was talking foreign policy, or making sure the cheff got his arugula pizza request.

15 The lame streams will never turn on their Indonesian love interest.  He hated them from the beginning, but that didn't stop the lame streams.  They are going to help The Precedent, whether he's nice to them, or not.  They are all-in on this effort to help him kill America and they can't go back on that.

Just wait until The Precedent gets back into his stirring of racial animus.  The lame streams will be backing him 1000%, even though he slams the door in their faces and makes them sleep outside on the porch.  They don't care.  The lame streams will take the abuse and ask for more.  They are all out to kill America - the lame streams and The Precedent.

16 Like most battered girlfriends, the MSM will still keep coming back for more.

There is a difference here though -- reporters need to produce copy and get "the story".  At some point, Obama's avoidance starts to cramp their ability to earn a paycheck.  A reporter who can't get a story doesn't remain a reporter for long.

18 Boy whoever invents the portable teleprompter is going to be a very rich man indeed.  Small wonder that they keep Obama off camera as much as possible.  Every time our socialist in chief opens his mouth when he's not reading prepared talking points something really stupid falls out, like the truth about what he really intends to do with our country.

It's still there even in the prepared talking points, if you know what to listen for, but almost every time you put Obama in front of  a camera without a prepared statement or speech he''l invariably fuck it up and say something honest - like how he believes people in middle America are a bunch of white racists clinging to guns or religion or how he wants to redistribute wealth and create a new socialist nation after destroying America.

19 They are still pissed that he gave them the slip on Sunday morning with all these 47 heads of state in town waiting for the conference to begin the next day.  And they are still quietly saying there was no soccer game scheduled for that day but yet, when asked to turn around and go back, they didn't even bother to go to the soccer field to at least inquire if he was there or maybe catch a picture of him leaving.   One of my friends said that DC was tighter than a pin cushion in the last couple of days...he was surprised that the cyclist was killed by the motorcade since "practically no one went to work or was on the streets really except people who had to be in DC"  anyways my friend thinks the MSM was prevented from proceeding towards the soccer field and they just aren't saying that.

51 Obama still needs the press

If he were a normal US president, I'd say yes.  He's not a normal president though.  The virulent NPD of his is easily the most pronounced of any president we've had in the past 100 years.  Yes, that means he requires supplicant tongue bathers, but they don't necessarily have to be the media.  An inner circle of groupies will do just fine and he can simply retreat into a bubble of denial about what's happening out in the street (which I think is already happening).

Its already obvious he simply doesn't understand or even accept that the public is turning against him and his policies.  He still think if something is "explained" to the public enough times that people will see it his way.  This is another classic NPD symptom BTW...an unwavering belief that one's positions are correct even when a majority of the public and evidence suggests otherwise.

Let me clarify.  In objective reality, where voters actually live, all Presidents need the press to help build public support for their political goals.  In Obama's reality, however, that need doesn't enter into his calculus: instead, once the press stopped uniformly acting as tongue-bathers, they became useless to his ego.  And as you point out, his delusion is that his eloquence and the self-evident rightness of his beliefs mean that he can make his case to the American public and not have to worry about the press's skepticism, criticism or opposition (in his mind, he matters to the public, the press doesn't).

I've been thinking lately that all the republican candidates should "set themselves up".  They should all create great stories and keep the press really busy tracking this stuff down to dead ends but not before they are told by staffers and family and former staffers that "they can't really say, they have signed confidentiality agreements but "it's bad, it's really bad".   They should keep proof that the rumors were started by their own offices.  Would really put the MSM in a tizzy, they don't employ enough people to be able to vet and investigate every story.

And here we hopefully have the snowball that will result in Barky's narcissistic supply running out.  He no longer gets it from the polls, so all He has left is His media.

Once it's gone, "unhinged" will be a charitable term to describe Him.

Of course, they thought they'd be one of the "cool kids" and its not turning out that way.  This is why they'll eventually rebel -- the media doesn't like to be spurned.  Their egos will eventually overcome their politics.

78 >>>Its already obvious he simply doesn't understand or even accept that the public is turning against him and his policies.  He still think if something is "explained" to the public enough times that people will see it his way.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this.  The Precedent, to my view, has never intended for anyone to like his policies.  That was not the intention behind pushing them.  The Precedent just wants to exact revenge on this nation.  He doesn't really care about policy, at all, outside of how it can harm the US.  This is why he let Congress run hog wild on every piece of legislation.  If he really cared about the policies, or their passing, he would have been actively involved in the crafting and guiding of them through Congress.  This is why there was that little spat with Rahm, just before they finally shoved health scare through, and after which we haven't heard from Rahm, at all.

All The Precedent cares about is breaking the system.  He liked health scare, not just for having passed the most un-American piece of legislation ever, but mostly for DOING it in the most un-American process ever, and irreversibly damaging our institutions (which was the main intent of the legislative push, from the beginning).  That's why The Precedent went out of his way to say that he "d[id]n't care about process", because the bulk of what he cared about was doing damage to us through the process.

>>>This is another classic NPD symptom BTW...an unwavering belief that one's positions are correct even when a majority of the public and evidence suggests otherwise.

Purple Avenger at April 14, 2010 02:14 PM (Nv6HS)

The Precedent is a malignant narcissist, to be sure, but that is not his most dangerous feature, nor his most operative one, either.  He's really out for revenge, which is why he loves to embarrass himself all over the place.  Every embarrassingly stupid thing he does injures the office of the Presidency, which is his target in many of those cases - such as with the Copenhagen Olympic fiasco.  It was a win-win for the Indonesian Imbecile.  He did it because it was totally un-American to have the US lobbying nationally, from the Oval Office, personally, for the Olympics, and he couldn't lose on the bet.  If Chicago got the Olympics, it was a big win for his cronies and would give him more political power to rain destruction on us.  If they didn't, the White House would be internationally embarrassed and the immediate goal of the destruction of our traditions and institutions would be forwarded another three steps - which is what happened.

81 Dems for some reason have always been able to maintain a wall of silence about the inside workings. Partly because when they leave Government they go right into the Media. Editors don't like tell alls about liberals (it makes them nervous; every wonder why there's never been a real tell all about the Media? They don't report on themselves except if it's Fox or Murdoch)

Republcans on the other hand think everybody, even Democrats, are all working for the same thing; a better future for America and Americans. This is their main major mistake. Leftist liberals LIVE to  expose anything about conservatives that could possibly be twisted into a negative regardless of the consequences to the Country or that they are breaking an oath or the law. Thus all the leaks during Republican Admins but dead silence during Dem ones.

The Democrat party has all the trappings (obedience to omerta and sicilian-like loyalty), history and philosophy of an organized crime family.

As far as I've seen it, The Precedent is a modern day Hannibal, but without any of the actual talent (thank G-d for that).

Posted by: OhioDude at April 14, 2010 02:57 PM (wdv0T)

He never returned their phone calls.  Not even during the campaign.  There werew rumblings back then about how little actual contact they had with him.  Then, in the beginning of his illegal tenure, he used the lame streams as personal tools, telling them whenever he felt like speechifying, no matter what programming they had to pre-empt for it.  And he never gave real press conferences.  Even from the first, he would read the names of reporters with questions off of a piece of paper, and then have to ask where they are.

Remember, back in the campaign, when he started to feel confident about winning, he kicked those reporters off the press plane, which was totally against all tradition.  There were a couple of squeals from the lame streams, but that quickly died, as this story will, too.

The lame streams always looked at themselves as running the story, not covering the Indonesian Imbecile, so none of this ever bothered them.  They are bothered, now, because the story has gotten away from them.  They'll react by calling conservatives racists.  That always makes them feel better.

Very true, but my point is that The Precedent's motivations go far beyond being a marxist and hating America.  He is not, himself, American in any real sense.  It is one thing for an American to be a self-hater, but it is quite another for one who has no American sensibilities to hate America.  This is why The Precedent has been tearing our traditions and institutions to shreds with every touch.  Because he does not even have the minimal subconscious ties that the most self-hating Americans have.  There are things that self-hating Americans would just never do, but that an America-hating non-American would do.  It's a matter of a different way of thinking.  This is what pushed the health scare through (with the aiding and abetting of the dems, of course, but pushed, wholly, by the Indonesian Imbecile).

My point is that there are American marxists who would not be nearly as dangerous as the Indonesian Imbecile, because they would still have subconscious ties to the nation and our traditions that just keep certain things from even coming into their minds.

This is why I have been so adamant about the "natural born citizen" clause.  Because the Founders worried about exactly this circumstance, when someone with no real connection to America or American culture and traditions took control and destroyed much of the uniqueness of this nation with their ignorance and/or malevolence.  I can't even think of a more perfect example than the Indonesian Imbecile and how he has done stuff that no American would ever think of doing.  Shrillary would have let health scare die after 6 or 7 months - certainly after the Town Halls.  Just about any American would have.  It took someone with no attachment to, and contempt for, our system to keep pushing it.  The same with shoving the Porkulus sight unseen through.  And on and on.

That said, I'm not supporting O'Reilly in the way he has bent over for The Precedent since first accusing the Indonesian of being a socialist back during that campaign interview. That has been pathetic and sad. I think that O'Reilly was pissed off that no one picked up on that, but that Joe the Plumber was getting all the attention for exposing the same thing - and for having had the skill to get the Indonesian Imbecile to blurt out, "Spread the wealth".

108 I can't really get worked up about the media acting as Obama's bitch. It's what they've been doing since 2007 and there's no reason to expect them ever to change.

What pisses me off almost beyond words is the way that ordinary people do the same thing. People I once considered friends have been happily repeating all the "racist homophobic teabagger" nonsense, denying that anyone ever said anything bad about Bush or Palin, and insisting that being unhappy about the Administration wrecking the country means you're a violent nutcase.

These are people who have lived in the United States, on the planet Earth, in this timeline, yet they are deliberately denying things they have seen with their own two eyes because it contradicts the Official Narrative(tm) as handed down by the Daily Show and MSNBC.

What is there to do? The liberals have now managed to poison and destroy ordinary personal relationships. Everything is now subsumed to politics. They really do love Big Brother.

I completely concur with your theory,  as we have discussed before.

A good example of  attacking the traditions of this country is his demolishment of the space program.   It's cloaked in phrases of fiscal responsibility and "better use of our resources"  but we were the first to land on the moon,  and to remove that from our national psyche is horrible.

There was an astronaut on today who spoke about how the space program inspires future engineers and astronauts.   It is also vital to our national defense.  Yet here Obama is,  taking a wrecking ball to it, and for no reason except that he truly hates American achievement in anything.

Because of Obama,  we will no longer reach for the stars.  And he is happy about it,  because he wants us turned into a third world hell hole.

It is upsetting to me that the news people don't see this.   It is dangerous not only to our nation but to the entire world.

111 So Obama hasn't had a press conference since the Beer Summit? Doesn't the One realize that the more he stifles conferences the more issues he will have to answer or filibuster once he does give one? And that conference will be when there's a republican majority in Congress leading to even more angst in the press room?
Even Bush who was mercilessly attacked by the lefty media and press corp, gave much more press availability than the Obama gives his Obamahuggers.

I hope I can offend some PoliSci types here by saying that The Press has very little business covering a president's every word and move. I don't recall hearing an Eisenhower press conference more than once a month or so. They developed a love affair with Kennedy, but even he only called pressers when something was afoot--there was no daily smoochfest. Johnson built his empire on press relations, and I date the modern imperial presidency from him.

Although I agree that Obama misused the press (or was it the other way around?) in his ascent, and has turned on his cheering section, really, we should hope that future presidents, if any, could do the job without a several-times-daily (as now) pepper game. It would improve both the function and the dignity of the office, which excessive familiarity has cheapened.
