— Ace Your fully electronic gaming table, along with animated monsters (with sound effects), has arrived.
Here's another clip of the Microsoft Surface being used for this purpose.
Thanks to Stan.*
* There is no Stan. I am thanking an imaginary person to hide the fact I discovered this all on my own.

I got ten seconds in, heard D&D, and quickly shut that shit down.
Can someone please help "Stan" get laid?

Since D&D players are so into fantasy role playing, they should have a social skills add-on where the player actually gets to touch a girl by completing such Herculean tasks like basic personal hygiene and not acting like a dork.

33 Yes because it takes imagination to waste spend time in fantasy land of whacked-out role playing games.
I's jealous of your gaming skillz.

Hater. Thread full of haters. But seeing as how you have dirty knees, I'm thinking you're the Head Hater.

I always thought rolling dice was a bug, not a feature. Whyinhell would you want to roll dice when you could, um, have your "electronic abacus" do it for you? That was not good.

Lacey, he's using a giant touchscreen to create the ultimate D&D game. All we can do at this point is make him comfortable, hook up a nice morphine drip and call his next of kin.

I can accept that. In the case of fantasy role-playing games, yet, consider me the Head Hater. It is the crown I will gladly wear.

I said "cool" hobby. I'm just sorry you're so filled with hate and rage that you have to lash out at others. Was it that the boy you liked ignored you to play D&D? It's OK, lacey, it's not your fault.
Posted by: FUBAR at February 16, 2010 02:37 PM (1fanL)
Socializing with friends is a pastime not a hobby, the things you do with your friends is a hobby, unless of course your obsessed with people liking you. In which case socializing is a hobby, and apparently a qualifier for high political office.
Posted by: MikeTheMoose at February 16, 2010 02:38 PM (0q2P7)
Heh. MikeTheMoose entered the game on fiyah.

It reminds me of all the "Tolkein is ghey" people that 20 years later helped to make huge amounts of money for the LOTR franchise.

lacey, lacey, lacey. Honey, it's not your fault. Quit blaming yourself. No womyn can compete with the attraction of D&D. You're good enough, and you're smart enough. And gosh darnit, people like you!
Posted by: FUBAR at February 16, 2010 02:42 PM (1fanL)
unless of course your obsessed with people liking you
Cleary not as evidenced by my posts
But that's cool. I look at this way: if I had a son, would I want him playing sports or clubs in school where he could havereal interaction with other kids -or- would I want to see him gaming in my basement. Not a hard choice.
Posted by: laceyunderalls at February 16, 2010 02:43 PM (0lPSt)
And a false one. What if he got together with his friends to play games, maybe even rpgs? And why can't he do more than one thing?

I see this is the difficulty. You view this solely as an OR choice. Either you are a well adjusted social human being or an RPGer. You can have outdoor AND indoor fun too. During the same period that I gamed just about all their was at the local comics shop, yes I did ALSO go outdoors and play on a regular basis, usually depending on how nice the weather was. Just think of RPG's as board games on steroids, meth, and crack. High overhead on rules but a lot more fun than playing Risk all afternoon. Yes you can still go out to bars with your friends in your stompy boots, and the next day throw down with your LVL 10 Magic User. You can live both lives.
Posted by: MikeTheMoose at February 16, 2010 02:50 PM (0q2P7)
And what does all that sports obsession lead too?
Fantasy football. AD&D for sports fans, that you win based on the semi random events of real life professional sports. Good trade up.
Posted by: MikeTheMoose at February 16, 2010 02:53 PM (0q2P7)
Well considering that I don't even understand the acronyms you're using, it's hard to understand the overall point. But at the end of the day, I'm okay with that.

I did a lot of manly shit. I played football in high school, joined the military, went to the sandbox a couple of times, and now I'm a commercial diver. I drank like a fish and chased anything with two sets of lips.
My brother in law is a nerd. Got a Ph.D in computer graphics design, for God's sake.
And at the end of the day, where are we? He's got a wife, two kids, a house, and a job with Pixar making truckloads of money. I've got a messed up knee, a bad ankle, a bad elbow, partial hearing loss, occasional nightmares and an apartment.

Best intergenerational moment ever, was when MY grandfather went to my daughter's classroom in 1987 and spoke to the 3rd graders about homesteading in North Dakota. They asked him where he bought toys.
Answer: There were NO toys unless you made your own!
32 third graders sat there with their mouths hanging open. "No toys? How did you play?"
Answer: Hunting, fishing, tracking, using pebbles for marbles.
It was GREAT, and one of my fondest memories. God bless him, he lived to 99, and was a wonderful guy.

Nice idea, but too much effort. It's faster just to roll your own die and move your own miniatures if you use them.

Got news for you. This IS socializing with friends. This wasn't using the Surface as a game console, which would be the first instinct of a lot of programmers, and might support multiple players. But no, rather than player or players against computer, this is just an enhancement layer for the traditional, gather around the kitchen table, with pens, paper, and dice, maybe maps and miniatures if you went fancy, and have some fun together. People playing with other people. It was one hell of a lot more social than a kid shouting obscenities into a headset over the latest iteration of Halo while alone in a darkened room.
