Several years ago one of the magazine tv shows (48 Hours maybe?) did a segment on how sensitive people's rear ends are. The premise was this: people (women in particular) do not like when their bums are brushing up against stuff.

My report from my weekend flights.  I was not selected for pat downs (boo hoo).  Salt Lake aiport seemed to have body scanners, but also had metal detectors.  They asked me if I had anything that would set off the metal detector and I said 'no' so that's what they put me through. 

At the other end (Ontario, CA), they didn't seem to have the body scanners, just metal detectors. 

I saw three other people being patted down.  All of them were older (over 60, I'd say) and one of them was absolutely elderly.  One of the older ladies had her skirt pulled up to her waist in full view of everyone.  During her pat down they grasped her arm up high at the arm pit and held it there.  Very awkward.  I actually stood and watched one of them (I was waiting for my husband), an elderly man getting patted down.  They went inside the waistband, but I didn't see them go down the front of his pants.  These are not the quick pats you see in cop shows.  These are grasps and rubs. 

I think the fact that they are lying about the kids getting groped coupled with the fact that the criteria seems to be biased towards picking on older people (because they are disproportionately likely to have medical conditions that trigger problems with the machies), will lead to the demise of this bullshit.

Probably some of them are involved with it.  These guys aren't exactly rocket scientists.  Plenty of them are thugs and clueless of the laws.  Michael Vick was one of them.  It doesn't seem like he is anymore.  I'm not going to invite him over for dinner, but better for all that he's reversed course.

meanwhile people that leave their dogs outside or in cars with excessive heat are charged w/misdemeanors, felonies depending on the circumstances. because there's laws on the books for that.

A few years ago, D'oh Boy was on a highway with a friend, and called me damned near crying.  Some asshole was throwing little kittens out the window onto the highway, and he described them trying to crawl off the road, and being killed.  He called 911 and no one cared. 

I read a local blog a few years ago where a guy described being at a stoner party, where a tiny kitten was put in a microwave and cooked alive.  He said he was too cowardly to stop it, and he'd never forget the ungodly screams of the little animal.

As horrible as sub-humans treat dogs, "normal" people think killing and hurting cats is hilarious.

Ah, yes...my mom and dad used to live in Atlanta, ran a restaurant so every time we went to visit them we would make at least one trip to the Farmer's Market.  I had never seen so many different kind of things, from so many different cultures, that were all considered "food".  Amazing.

First time I saw goat heads (sans goat bodies) was on a trip to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.  Propped up in the window of a restaurant, like an advertisement.  "Today's Special: Disembodied Goat Heads!!)

Well, for what it's worth, Vick's troubles and prison time had almost nothing to do with the way he treated his dogs, per se, it had to do with the gambling associated with the illegal dog fighting.

He "lost" quite a bit of money in terms of his canceled contract with the Atlanta Falcons  (millions!), but I don't know if he was impoverished by the time he spent in jail.  and I remember all the stupid rationalizations at the time about the "problems" that "black people" have with dogs.  As if to justify it all.

Also, if anyone recalls, his younger brother was thrown off the team and his scholarship revoked at Virginia Tech for some seamy behavior.

106 Just walk around downtown Savannah and see the hood rats with their big ol' pit bulls.  It's a sign of a real man, in this culture.  And they've found little puppies and kittens that have barely survived the pimp boys' "training" their pits.

109 Our two house cats certainly think they're human.  They talk to us, cuddle, kiss, and alert us when something isn't quite right outside.  Our Marine kid loves them to death as misses them.

Yeah, I miss all the dogs I've ever known and loved.  But our kitties are just as loved.  And way more likely to be caught and tortured to death for shits and giggles.

Bottom line:  any jackass who kills or hurts dogs, cats, hamsters, ferrets, etc., is a fucking lowlife loser.  Probably a TSA agent.
