— Ace I'm not happy about it.
CBS chief Washington correspondent Bob Schieffer is now saying that he has it on good authority that the White House is privately bracing for Arlen Specter to lose tomorrow.Schieffer, to my knowledge, has not said this on national TV yet. But he made the claim in an interview with the local CBS affiliate in Philadelphia. "I have been told on background that the White House is preparing for a Specter loss here, and that the president doesn't want to be associated with that," Schieffer said.
I've also learned that Veep Joe Biden will not be doing any campaign events for Specter in the final stretch, though it's not immediately clear how significant this is. Last week, Biden said he'd be doing events for Specter "as needed."
But a Biden aide confirms for me that no campaign events are scheduled, even though Biden will be in Pennsylvania tonight speaking at his daughter's graduation.
The primary is, as Dan Rather says, tight as a tick, 42% Sestak 41% Specter.
The Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary goes down to the wire with U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak taking 42 percent of likely primary voters to Sen. Arlen Specter's 41 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll conducted through Sunday night and released today. With 16 percent undecided and 25 percent of those who do back a candidate saying they might change their mind, the race is too close to call.
Specter strikes me as a very dispiriting candidate for Democrats (just as he had formerly been a dispiriting candidate for us). Specter would lose in the general. Sestak has a much better chance of winning.
Can we get Rush Limbaugh to re-activate those Operation: Chaos agents -- Republicans who'd declared Democratic to vote for Hillary over the stronger Obama -- and get this alte kacher nominated so we can trounce him?

Really. You'd think between ACORN and SEIU and the New Black Panthers, whoever the WH wants to win in PA would win in PA.
Maybe they're saving it for the general.

Don't talk about Rush and Specter. Does anyone else here remember the last time Specter had a primary challenge? It was Pat Toomey in 2004. A lot of us were busting our buts in support of Toomey. That primary was a big deal, nationally.
Then just before the primary, Rush brought Specter onto his show and threw his big arm around him, yucking it up. I'll never forget it.

The political commercials here in Pa have been a blast. If you're not paying much attention to them (to which I plead no contest) but look up once in a while you see George Bush singing the praises for Specter followed by that current Precedent guy a couple seconds later. The next commercial could just be the current Precedent guy followed half hour later by the Bush/Obama commercial.
Benedict Arlen is long past his shelf life.
Jack Wagner's are hilarious. It honestly looks like a college A/V club made them

Toomey isn't well liked in the Republican party. The Club for Growth has helped unseat many squishy republicans. Bob Bennett of Utah being one of them.
That is in part why i love Toomey. He will be one of those guys that actually wants to follow the Republican Platform. Not just claim to follow it to get elected and then betray it immediately after elected.

Like offering a bribe to someone in the form of a government position. The whole Sestak job offer from the White House that under normal circumstances would be illegal if it weren't for the fact that we are now ignoring laws.

Terrible. In order to be an effective greeter, there are a few important skills to master. I see in your record that you have mastered Lesson G.1 - Drawing Lines on Receipts with a Highlighter, but you still have yet to complete Lesson G.2 - Smiling and Saying Hello.

Dr Spank: "An OK Senator"?
Specter is supposed to be a legislator in the United States of America. We have an American legal system here. During the impeachment trial, Specter voted in accordance with Scottish law (of all places). That vote should have rendered him illegible to legislate in this country.
A "no" vote would have been wrong, but at least legal.
Also, there's his vote for Obamacare, and the various stimuli and bailouts, which just capped decades of general douchebaggery on the Hill.
It's way too early to be hitting the bong; I recommend waiting until 4:20.

Arlen is a walking Greek tragedy. And a duplicitous snake. Apart from the Franken debacle, who gave the Ds the 60 vote majority? And helped get us Obamacare? Yeah, him.
And what was the quid pro quo for the switch? The Ds would not field a primary candidate against him and the President, etc. would campaign for him. Looks like those promises had expiration dates.
Although the rumored admin job to Sestak to stay out of the primary conflicts with that set of facts, my view of these guys is that they'd say anything as a distraction [particularly if the "crime" is one in which they have the discretion whether to prosecute] to make Arlen think they weren't welching. Remember they still needed him on board.
On second thought, not a Greek tragedy, but a fucking fool.

Perhaps, perhaps. But if the fossil gets bumped off tomorrow, then the White House gets to either play kiss and make up, or ignore the loss of yet another Senate seat. And either way may suit Sestak. So the allegation hurts Spector, and results in no foul to Sestak. And the way that things are going, Dems cannot afford to just ignore him and let him sink. By that I mean losing states that the Dear Leader won in 2008. If Dem numbers in CA and PA tank, then the Manufactured Messiah needs either a rebound or other states to swing his way.

Best I can tell, the whole thing was orchestrated.
Obama got Specter to switch, making a stack of promises. Healthcare comes up. Sestak pops up out of nowhere as the leader of the opposition. Obama wrings his hands at Specter and says, "I'm sorry, I can't control this guy". Sestak flipflops and Obamacare passes. Sestak now has clear shot at Specter's seat, and meanwhile has shown Obama he'll play ball.
Obama knows the Pennsylvania electorate will fall for it, because said electorate voted not just for him, but for Murtha as well.

Sestak is going to have to tack right to win the general, and that will be difficult, given his Pelosi/Reid approved voting record. (On the times he actually did show up to vote.)
Independents can't vote in PA primaries, and they are the ones who swing elections. If the indies are still in a hateful mood against 0bamadems, Toomey's got this one in the bag. Rush and Hannity supporting Giuliani and giving us McCain for a nominee.
Let's be crystal clear here--?Rudy?!? ran one of the worst campaigns in American political history (WAITING FOR FLORIDA...WTF?). So, in what way do Limbaugh and Hannity give McCain the nomination by supporting an awful campaign? That's a huge stretch. And more than a little nonsensical.

"We already have the oldest Congress ever and he and every other 80 plus year old ought to be sitting at their lake house telling stories to their grandkids and not sitting in Congress forgetting whether they just had lunch or not."
That reminds me...weren't we told that McCain would have shuffled off the mortal coil by now? "One heartbeat away..."
I hope McCain buys some time on national television in 2012, plays a montage of "one heartbeat away" comments, and then holds up his two middle fingers while standing underneath a banner that reads "I'M STILL ALIVE, BITCHES!"

That's perfect - except why wait for 2012? McCain could highlight his illegal immigration creds in the current primary race by then turning his back to the camera to display LA MIGRA ironed on to the back of his T-shirt.

"Hey, MB4, give it a rest – you’re trolling the thread with your anti-Islamist borrowings"

What's the average economic and educational level of his district in PA? I'm guessing that ObamaCare is a very divisive issue in the area. Pushing the "unemployment" button should hurt the Ds badly, certainly among the "bitter clingers" in the area. If Sestak waffled, it shouldn;t be too difficult to pin O-care on him anyway (for being a wuss).

#184 Theresa D - loved this article, thanks,
Gov. Brewer has got brass ones that's for sure. Loved her comments -
It’s fair to ask whether he intends to be the Commander-in-Chief or the Comic-in-Chief,” Brewer shot back yesterday when announcing the launch of a website aimed at educating the United States about her state’s new law. “Since the president’s joke was so inappropriate, I suppose, if I wanted to join in the comedian game, I could suggest that he should not give up his day job.”
Although the above made perfectly clear what she thinks of Obama, Brewer wasn’t quite done yet. “Unfortunately, though, he isn’t doing very well at that one, either,” she added as a punchline.
Brilliant!

I would've if I'd known earlier that it might matter (frankly, I believe Toomey will win over Sestak due to Sestak's being raked over the coals by Specter already and us Penn's Woods folks are pretty much fed up with liberal Democrats).
I stayed Republican registration so that I could influence the Republican primary and help get some actual conservative nominated instead of the party backed favorite. Also want to vote out the folks in the Republican State Committee so staying Repub registered was really my only choice.
Maybe if Obama hadn't backed Specter, Specter'd be in a better position now.
We are not impressed with Mr. Obama. (you know 'cause of our bitter clinging to our bibles and guns and stuff)

If Pennsylvanians really believe Sestak should win, and if he does indeed win later in November, then it'll be an indication that the citizens still believe a Democrat Congress coupled with a Progressive Executive is OK and that they want sand in the Vaseline before further screwing. I don't think they'll vote for it. Neither Sestak nor Specter will beat the GOP counterweight in the general, but a) don't give Obama the "win" unnecessarily, and b) knock out the entrenched incumbent to invigorate the Tea Party movement. The revolutionaries need and deserve tangible victories.

Bracing for a loss? Get real. They're throwing him under the bus.
It's called justice. First he was duped by them, and he was too sleazy to resist the temptation, and then they betrayed that weasel to get an even more liberal Sestak in the Senate. Spector was played for a complete fool, and what's cool is that by now he must know it..
