White House Planning To Pass Cap and Trade in Lame Duck Session
— Ace

Awful.

Geraghty has a suggestion:

Every Republican challenger ought to be demanding that their Democrat incumbent opponent pledge in writing that they will not pass an energy bill in a lame-duck session if they are defeated. When the people make their opinion clear, fundamental concepts of accountability and responsibility require that the opinion not be ignored.

I endorse his idea, but I disagree with his conclusion.

Will be a titch harder to ignore, he should write.

1 They're going to try to pass EVERYTHING in a lame duck session.

The question is will the dems that retain their seats want to have anything to do with it?  Pelosi can't bribe or threaten when she's out of leadership.

Posted by: nickless at June 16, 2010 11:40 AM (MMC8r)

2 So, they pledge in writing.

If they break that pledge....then what?

Do they go to pledge prison or something? They are already elected out. Not like anything worse will happen.

Lame Duck Session 2010 declare election results of November 2010 null and void.

You never know what might happen. Here in PA I've been reading articles about how Arlen Specter, being abandoned in the last few weeks of his campaign, might stick it to obama on many issues now that he has nothing to lose of gain.

I think we all agree that most of the democrats that will lose in novermber will be in swing districts and therefore tend to be more conservative democrats. They might swing the other way after their losses and stick it to obama because they blame him for them losing their seats.

Now that i think about it. It might be different this time. People didn't care about the public spending then as it was boom times, but I don't know if the people of america would be sympathetic to public unions complaints if the government shut down.

33 Republicans won't defund shit.

So far in 2010, the oil and gas industries have contributed $12.8 million to all candidates, with 71% of that money going to Republicans.

"Big Energy" is the biggest proponent, primary author, and largest private beneficiary of cap-and-trade.

And Republicans never cut anything, anyway. They just accept the role of villain in stories about imaginary cuts, "deregulation," etc. That's what a permanent minority does.

I hate to sound like a left winger, but I am actually a little concerned about the Republicans winning in November.

I really don't know what their plan is and i am someone who follows politics. I don't think it is enough to just run on "not obama" policies.

They are going to have to have answers. If the republicans take both houses and do nothing but deny Obama what he wants, they will get the blame come 2012. I am not saying give him what he wants, but they need to put forward their solutions in legislation and let him be the person who vetoes them. They need to sell their ideas to America, then blame him for not allowing them to be implemented.

This is kind of indicative of our future lives under socialism:

Greece, which has papandreaucare – the rough equivalent of obamacare, keeps getting those annoying threatening creditor phone calls at home and at the office.  In response, theyÂ’ve decided to pay the medical suppliers with Greek bonds.  Needless to say, the creditors are ecstatic.

As much as i hate the democrats at least they had plans in 2006 and 2008, terrible ones, but they had plans and goals.

Nancy, Barry, and Henry are convinced that even if they lose this next election, it will just be a temporary loss of power.  By 2012, the entire election stealing fraud machine will be up and running, and the Supremes will sign Barry's 6 votes 1 man proposal for Blacks, Native Americans and Hispanics into law.

108 I want to believe you. Really I do. But I recall so many intelligent observers saying Hellcare was dead when Scott Brown took the Swimmer's seat in Massachussett(e)s. Many said they would never go the reconciliation route. Yet, look where we are today.

I keep hearing that but the Dems did not use "reconciliation" to pass healthscam. The Senate bill passed before Brown was in office and it passed 60-39 with no Republican votes. They had enough to override the filibuster.

They then "reconciled" it with the House by putting the entire package in a gutted House bill on a different subject and having Nanny Nan twist arms until that passed in the House with NO CHANGES that would require it to go back to the Senate.

BTW, we are getting the "changes" like exempting unions" via executive fiat now.

173 Well, actually there IS a Green Party.  I know, because I refused to sign a ballot petition for a logal green candidate. Maybe "green jobs" needs to be defined?

Seriously, if Obama loses in 2012, I can see some incalculable damage being inflicted on the White House and its environs.  I can also forsee race rioting in major cities.  It will be bad.

Talk about lame ducks...I can see Zero himself passing pardons out like candy...Mumia, Peltier, KSM, Tookie (posthumously, of course), O.J....every criminal currently in jail....I know that sounds crazy, but is it, really?

174 Well, for starters, we don't have a Green Party?

We don't really need one. The Brits didn't even have one because...   "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

- Norman Thomas (1944)   "The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

-Norman Thomas (1884-196 six-time U.S. Presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America

178 I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that yes, in fact, they will. More stridently and insistently, in fact. Them 52%-ers are stubborn, stupid, and most of all selfish.

Then will we have to learn the hard way, like the Europeans. If that doesn't wake the 52% up, nothing will.

Posted by: Miss'80sBaby at June 16, 2010 12:46 PM (yfJ6g)

179 Seriously, are there any republicans who even want the jobs?   wondering if people will not want to go to Washington and they will win by default.  You need to be squeaky clean a political virgin so to speak, nothing, not even from college that they can dig up and use against you and you have to want to do this to yourself and your family.  A lot of professional politicians will bow out by doing nothing.

180 Though it will spell the end of continuity, what we need to organize now is an efficient legislative means AND  COMMITTED CONSERVATIVE VOTES following the next election to rescind these over taxing and burdensome mandate laws--ObamaCare, Cap 'n Tax...

Effectively make Obama's administration a costly but null and void experience.

Apparently Professor 52% is currently at 42% with 44% "strong disapproval".   If he had to run for re-election again right now, he'd probably lose.

#181
Obama is already leaving himself a highly ugly legacy.  If he wants to make it worse that way, so be it . . . just so long as he's gone.

183 Dudes, we need Cap and Trade so the next oil spill won't happen (Hits Joint). I mean the logistics and shit are scary and those farmers need our help. We don't have oil spills in San Francisco, wanna know why? Cuz we don't drill there!!11! It's simple, man. Our gas magically appears from somewhere else because we don't drill!! We should all do that!! I called in to Glenn Beck's Hate Show and said "Glenn, dude, we don't need to drill, it magically appears" and Glenn was all like "Fuck you hippie, take a bath" and I retorted "Hitler loved to drill and look where that got him Nazi-lover"!!! DOUBLE SNAP!!11!!

187 If governing officials fail to fulfill their job descriptions as things stand now, no more legislation is going to change the official attitude that someone else can take care of whatever.

It's the old doctrine of least interest--the least interested party has the upper hand in a relationship because the most interested party will do what is deemed necessary to achieve the desired result.

Politicians certainly have the least interest in doing their jobs properly.

Voters have the most interest, no longer backed by the MSM though certainly promoted by the new journalism on the internet. Our only means to achieve proper constitutional governance is to get constitutionally committed candidates elected and hold them to the agenda. Motivating conservative organized activism matters.

Editor, that is my concern.

As much as i hate the democrats at least they had plans in 2006 and 2008, terrible ones, but they had plans and goals.

They haven't accomplished them all, but they've certainly made a dent.

I am concerned that Boehner and McConnell aren't going to be good majority leaders(if the republicans take both houses)

We need fresh ideas and faces. We need Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, etc out in front. Men of some substance.

Posted by: Ben

You don't put the "idea" guys out front. You put guys like McConnell and Boehner out front. Reason, the "leaders" will be attacked personally, and any faults they have get projected onto the agenda and ideas. You separate the ideas from the leaders and that is how you win.

206 Question: why is there a lame duck session in the first place? Because it takes weeks for the candidates to ride wagons back to Washington? We should be like the UK: day after the election, the new party is in. Or, if that's too fast for the poor dears, then the Congress should not be allowed to convene until it can do so with new members.
