55 OT:  I just got in from a breakfast for elections judges and others put on by the Republican party of Lyons Township (in suburban Cook County).  There was lots of good stuff from our local candidates.  Frederick Collins, a third generation cop, is running for Sheriff against incumbent Tom Dart, who is known to be vying for Mayor.  Collins supports concealed carry, and repeated Palin's line about not retreating, but reloading.  Roger Keats, running for County Board President has apparently been doing a lot of campaigning on the South Side and reports significant success there, measured by lawn signs and folks he's talked to that don't know if we're right, but are pretty sure the Dems are wrong.  Steve Kim is running against Lisa Madigan for Attorney General.  Lisa is apparently on her own as her father has apparently seen something in the polls that has him spooked over his seat.  Kim is running on finally prosecuting corruption in state rather than waiting for the feds to rescue us, and on joining the suit against Obamacare.

Unfortunately, I also spoke with a representative of Mark Kirk, who fell all over himself name dropping prominent IL Republicans he's worked with over the years.  He pushed heavily the idea that we need people like Kirk to "work together" in the Senate.  And seems to think there is no chance of Republicans having the Senate majority next year.  And not in the 'It's tough and several races have to break our way" sense, but "It's hopeless and we shouldn't even pretend it's a possibility." 

For my part, I already voted for him, as we are right at 10 seats.  But I can certainly understand anyone who concludes he just isn't good enough.

When my cousin was in Iraq in 2005-06 his company provided support/security to a team of engineers as they transported  ~140 rockets (if I remember the number correctly) supposedly full of nerve gas out into the desert and then blew them up.     Granted that the rockets were probably old, deteriated, not a significant quantity (debatable) and most likely unstable, but the rockets were found in Iraq.    I have read of several other small finds of similar weapons.     Sadam had chemical weapons, had used them before, and was looking to get more.     Why the MFM has ignored these facts annoys me.   

The bottom line is in my opinion, Sadam had been a problem in the region for far to long and he had to be removed.     I think that the world is a much better place without him or his regime.
