Coons, in some parts was sounding awfully much like he likes the republican agenda cause his own agenda, if he told the truth, would make his poll numbers drop. It was tiring watching him parse his every word whereas she, though she stumbled on some of her words and wasn't polished said stuff straight from her heart and her own brain. She showed she could think, not regurgitate which is what he was doing. She made a lot of good points. What does his family own company make and maybe he should recuse himself from the cap and tax vote if he wins.

So far as I know -- and, again, I'm not in DE or I would try to learn much more -- she has no real record to show what she'll do.
But when we're discussing the debate, she didn't come off as well as the enthusiasts think she did.

Blister mentioned Roe v. Wade. She said it wasn't recent. Blister said it's pretty recent. She said it's 36 years old. She couldn't name another one, but she's not a lawyer.
Coons could mention Citizens United, but he's a lawyer and he'd already been bitching about it.
Posted by: huerfano at October 13, 2010 05:18 PM (No0N3)
It would have been a legit question if the timing was different. The moderators (Nancy, I think) asked that question a few minutes shortly after they talked about campaign finance and Citizens United, where Coons had already stated his opposition to that ruling.
Basically, Coons got a freebie reiterative answer on the SCOTUS question.

Ace, as the purveyor of this enterprise, I would think it only fair for you to provide an analysis of the debate.
And here is why. You have injected yourself into the equation of opinion opining the negative across the board. And this is of course your opinion.
It would thus only seem logical for you to provide an immediate analysis of Ms. O'Donnell's showing in tongitht's debate.

The Democrats (and the GOP Establishment) in Delaware -- hell, nationally -- told the voters in Delaware that Christine O'Donnell is a gibbering idiot. The voters have just seen that she's far, far from being an idiot, and that she in fact can hold her own when thinking on her feet while being attacked from several directions at once.
Now that the voters in Delaware know that the Democrats and the GOP Establishment lied to them about O'Donnell, they may start looking at her with their own eyes instead of taking the liars' word for what and who she is.
Posted by: stuiec at October 13, 2010 05:19 PM (fgCQL)
It's debatable whether that would be considered "recent". That's why she hesitated on the question, I would gather.
That's splittin' the hairs pretty fine.
Do you want the question to have been "What Supreme Court decisions made during the term begun in October, 2009 do you disagree with?"
Maybe Coons would have tripped over that one, too, but I doubt COD was thrown by trying to decide what the meaning of "is" is.

She's been consistently conservative in what she has said. She hasn't wandered off the reser'vation or decided that global warming is a threat. You can't know how she'd vote but you damn well know how coons and castle would vote.
In fact sometimes it's better to have a simple conservative than an intellectual ideologue. Those can often convince themselves that their conscience allows them to leave the party and join the cool kids; ie rove, krauthammer, newt, graham, et al

Chris Coons bombed on the three big issues during the debate. He supports pulling out of Afghanistan and turning that country back into a terrorist harbor; he came out in support of Obama's disastrous economic policies, and he supports tax hikes on the "rich". O'Donnell hammered him on his tax and spend record as county executive.

it's worth watching, I'm sure they will repeat it. I think he came off as a very well rehearsed loyal to Nan and BO and Harry and she came off as maybe not your average republican cause she's "fighting her own party" to be there and maybe someone who knows the issues and thinks for herself and wants to represent the people of Delaware within the parameters of the Constitution.
There was a moment when Coons showed how smart he was by asking what Constitution she supports, from what year. They shut him down, thank God cause he was starting to look foolish.

That's not what I meant. The intellectual elites will compromise for "non-partisanship" or for whatever reason that Newt had for hanging out with pelosi or whatever is wrong with McCain. The conservatives who don't think of themselves as above the american population aren't all of sudden going to decide gun control is best for the "people" because they are one of the people and not one of the ivory tower philosophers. I never said anything about emotional reactions--that is entirely the purview of liberals and republicans who want to be liberals but are too attractive.
