I believe its still 61, AP already called this one for Ellmers. Apparently Ethridge onky got like 6 extra votes from the re-canvass. Some consultants/lawyers probably told him he had a chance just to get an extra two weeks pay. Ridiculous. There were A LOT closer races around the country where the loosing candidate didn't contest at all.

According to that NYT map page, the count is 64 flips to R, minus 3 flips to D, for a net of +61.
But the great thing is that there are 5 races left undecided, all have D incumbants, and the Republican is ahead in 4 of them. It's two districts in rural CA, 2 in upstate NY, and 1 in TX.
So it currently looks like it will be a net of +65.

Not even close to a wave. The GOP did OK in the House races (should have been better, though) but tanked in the Senate races, which I predicted, of course.
My prediction was 55 House seats and 6-7 Senate seats.
And another thing I predicted was that, again as usual, the GOP candidates would lose a few points during the last week and give away some races that should have been won. Republicans NEVER close strongly. Heck, even Ron Johnson and Scott Walker lost 3 pts in the last week, but they had such a big lead it didn't matter.

As was recently reported, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is throwing his weight into supporting the lawsuit against ObamaCare, filing his own amicus brief to help the cause of the multi-state lawsuit. Now, McConnell is upping the ante, pledging to the public that he will get the Senate to come to a vote on the full repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and otherwise do everything in his power to stop the change of America into “a tyrannical police state.”

I don't know nearly as much as some others here, but there were some races I made a point of keeping up with as much as I could. Plus, Renee's was in my home state, although not my district. My district is about as red as you can get, so I tried to put my efforts into other's that would need my help.
It has been a truly satisfying and rewarding experince this year. Would that every one be as great. *sigh*

I never said Pelosi and the Dems would retain control of the House. That was a done deal. Heck, even the English bookies paid off wagers before the election took place.
What I did say was that there would be no wave, which there wasn't. The GOP couldn't even beat Harry Reid, who barely had a 40% approval rating in NV.
But thanks for admitting there was no wave. That's all I was trying to get across when so many here were predicting 10 Senate seats and 75+ House seats.

It's obvious what you are and what you try to accomplish here. It's amusing.
First, not everyone was claiming the Democrats would be completely evicted from Congress. I predicted +68 in the House and, at best, a even split in the Senate. As things stand now, it will be +63 (maybe +64) House and 53-47 Senate.
Before November 2nd, Pelosi and Reid could effectively shut out the GOP from just about any and all legislation which is what they did in several cases. Even the filibuster was beyond the GOP.
Such a severe change in one election cycle -- Dems losing 63+ seats and within a hair of losing the Senate -- may not be a "wave" by your definition but it was certainly a trip to the woodshed for the Democrats. The House controls appropriations -- nothing substantial gets done without funding -- and the filibuster is yet again available to the GOP. Governors? Well, ol' Moonbeam himself is back but most of us washed our hands of La La Land out west. It's their funeral. And, in a way, I'm glad Reid and Pelosi will be back ... I figure they're worth 10-20% gain for the GOP in 2012. They're comical, too, which makes it a double plus.
But even more interesting is the fact this loss has NOT elevated Democrats in the polls. The only places where they do well are places like California, New York, and urban areas -- those most addicted to the government teat.
So, I'd like to ask ... what about the Democrats will make them more popular in 2012? Will they sell in flyover country better than they did in 2010? You already know the answer.
Many more Democrat Senators will be up for reelection in 2012 than was the case this cycle and the Senate will likely become like the House, under GOP control.
So, enjoy your "not a wave" joke. It doesn't matter to me. We'll still be smiling. How's that hope and change working for ya?
