You Know, For a Fat Guy, Chris Christie Moves Pretty Fast
— Dave in Texas

With the veto pen, all over a tax increase. When he moves, he slices like a f'n hammer.

Go read his letter, it's so good. My favorite excerpt:

The citizens of New Jersey have seen their taxes go up one hundred and fifteen (115) times over the last 8 years. Today, I act so that it will not occur for the one hundred and sixteenth (116th) time. After the dual failures of out-of-control State spending and the inability to curb a 70% rise in property taxes over the last 10 years, the supporters of this bill want to continue down the path of ever higher taxes, which has crippled our stateÂ’s economy and led to even more job losses. I'm on an integrity kick. Do you know where I'm coming from with integrity? Do you like your jobs? Well do you?

Kind of a rush post, busy day at work, I mighta messed up the quote.

16 After the state Senate passed the bill, which had already passed the Assembly, Sweeney walked the bills down the hallways of the Statehouse, from the state Senate chambers to the governor's office. Once inside, he handed the bills to Christie, who was waiting.
"What took you so long ?" asked Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak.
Christie sat at a wooden desk emblazoned with the seal of the state of New Jersey and swiftly signed vetoes.

Even Christie's staff are teh awesome.  They've learned well from their master.

27 Well played. Remember the whiners claiming that Christie was going to alienate New Jerseyans? Either the Legislature rolls over, and he wins, or they override this and paint themselves as being the engine of higher taxation. This last will work so long as they have the union thugs in their pocket, AND that they cancel out the voice of the people (to Dems, the peasants). As we've seen, currently the people are being heard, and the unions's influence is in decline.

80 If Christie wants the nomination in 2012 he's doing it perfectly. He stays out of the national media exposure except when a story comes along that paints him in the way he wants to be painted: the tough uncompromising fighting fiscal conservative who's busting spending, not raising taxes, and fighting the unions. The MSM tried like a month ago to push a "Christie's polls are down" meme and that fell flat, don't see those stories anymore.

This man is formidable. As condescending between the lines today as it was, the editorial in the NYT about "Limbaughism" is correct in that whoever Rush gets behind will be the nominee. I hope he gets behind Christie. I hope Christie comes out to get behind. Lots of room!

115 One great thing about living in Minnesota is that we have Tim Pawlenty as our governor. He's a good guy, and recently stared down the Donk legislature to get his budget-cuts passed. It's telling that a state that sends two of the most liberally-retarded Senators to Washington (Klobuchar and Bozo Franken) also has one of the most conservative governors.

116 Christie needs to stop this kind of stuff. Next, the MFM will make every GOP candidate this fall another Christie -- supporter of fat cats and enemy of the people.

So here's the deal. For the next 6 months lay low. Above all, don't make yourself a lightning rod by vetoing bills. Instead, every other sentence should be "unemployment is at 9.9%" and that should be followed by "we need to promote private business in order to create jobs". Dopey...like BlackOrchid said above, the rebate was restrictive to income levels, marital status and zip code and amounted to no more that 300-400 bucks per houshold. It probably cost more to implement the program than it benefited in any kind of stimulus. The only thing it was useful for was a talking point and a campaign slogan to dupe dummies like yourself.

Those "targeting" property tax rebate ploys are crap.  They just exist to pander to a selective voting group while screwing everybody else.  And as Gov. Christie pointed out, once "temporary" tax increases are passed, they get extended for all eternity.

If the Dems in NJ were serious about cutting taxes, they'd pass a bill to immediately cut property taxes 20-30% (at least) across the board, regardless of income.  Now that's a bill Gov. Christie would sign within 2 minutes.

Chris Christie's message rings true with a great number of people. There is no laying low - this guy is doing EXACTLY what he said he would do. Now it goes back to the NJ legislature. He should seek out those 16,000 people who would have been unfairly singled out, and ask them on how to increase job opportunities. If successful, he can prove that he got that money, and more out of those 16,000, and he didn't have to be a thug to do it. Rand leaned into that punch when the entire topic is purely hypothetical and skewed to play right into the hands of the libs in that it was about their one topic: racism.  It's hard for me to see how you can make that out as smart no matter how hard you squint.  I dislike ahistoical navel gazing since it requires one to answer the meaningless question of if things were different, how different would things be?

But, just in case it comes up, I would like to put on the record that I would have supported the Declaration of Independence.

P.S.  I have strong libertarian leanings but you've got to pick your fights.  Rand chose to die on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 hill.

CHESTERFIELD, N.J. (AP) - A fatal accident involving three trucks closed a 26-mile stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike's northbound lanes in southern New Jersey for nearly eight hours.

State police say the crash involved a box truck, a dump truck and a tanker carrying 8,000 of kerosene and occurred around 1 a.m. Friday in Chesterfield, south of Trenton.

Turnpike Authority spokesman Joe Orlando says officials believe the box truck rear-ended the tanker.

Orlando says the box truck driver was killed and the tanker driver injured.

Orlando says the highway reopened at 9 a.m., but one of the three lanes will remain closed until workers repair guard rail and clean up the fuel that leaked from the tanker.

The turnpike is a major connector of New York City to points south.

I'm not apologizing to anybody for anything.  The fact that he allowed himself to be bushwacked by a vicious harpy like Madcow does not speak well of his intelligence.  Nor does engaging Madcow in a discussion of a long dead issue.  When asked about his position on the CRA of 1964, he might have responded by asking her what her position was on the Compromise of 1850.

He's not the guy.

I agree...and so does Rand, once again I give you this:

Rand Paul on ABC this morning:

"I've just been trashed up and down and they have been saying things that are untrue. And when they say I'm for repealing the Civil Rights Act, it's absolutely false. It's never been my position and something that I basically just think is politics."

--------------

As I said in Gabe's thread. We are always looking for someone who will fight the leftists punch for punch...and Rand is doing just that not unlike our boy Christie. Did he pick the right fight, maybe not but we have to go toe to toe with these statists. This dust-up will pass by the time Djou wins tomorrow and we'll be discussing yet another outrage conjured up by the MFM. Rand will get himself in trouble if he goes in the direction of his father ie. isolationism, defense cuts, jabs at Israel blah blah blah.

Posted by: ONT Moronettes at May 21, 2010 10:52 AM (YVZlY)

Off-hand, I would say that the dems have problems understanding:

- "70%" (which is why their Precedent was promising to reduce premiums by 3000%)

- "rise" (as shown by their insane drive to global warming, and then renaming "warming" as "change")

- "property" (dems only know of common property, and even that, to dems, is really owned by the government, which is nice enough to allow some people to use it)

- "10 years" (dems have no sense of history, at all)

267 Unclefacts,

We had a person at work who overheard someone talking about Senor Wences and was imitating the voice.  Can you believe this stupid ass got offended and complained to HR?  That's one of the reasons I want out of my job and into the Sheriff's dept.  I work with pansies.

I doubt that Seth McFarlene thinks so, but then he's going to have other, 'pressing' issues to deal with.

270 #268  BTW, how are you feeling?  Zicam work?

I'm feeling pretty decent, thanks.  I think the Zicam's working, although this isn't a controlled experiment so that's just a subjective observation. How have you been?

Of course you would frame your answer as a subjective observation. LOL!

I wasn't around much last night. Went to the gym late, then just beat.  I will be home this evening with a cocktail in my hand replaying Chris Chrisite video over and over on my laptop!

Palin and the Fat Guy 2012.  And at this point, I'm not sure which order I'd put them in on the ticket.

Sarah and the Fat Man.

A new show coming to all channels in January 2013.

275 65 You see all the TV Ads the Unions are running against Christie here in NJ. They must be damn scared of him. I love it.

Are any of them posted on YouTube? So we can laugh too.

278 I'm just skimming the threads, but I think I get the big picture... Chris Christie has his RuPaul boots on the throat of Mexican lake pirates who just returned from Iraq. Is that about right?

279 "Again, the business of America is Business.  The free enterprise system creates wealth, promotes freedom and gives everyone a chance at the brass ring.  "Free enterprise" is a term that makes leftists like Obama sneer in contempt. He does not believe that the means of production should be left in private hands.  In fact, the concept of private property is as foreign to him as well.

If anyone thinks that his agenda is Un-American, then you don't understand what Obama is about and you underestimate the threat his agenda poses to our country.  He is Un-American, and even a kook like Rand Paul is right in saying so.

It is not a political mistake to tell the truth.

Can we please get Christie out to AZ?  We need some tax vetoes like a dehydrated man needs water and electrolytes.

Brewer's failing us on the tax front.  Supported Prop 100, which passed due to the propaganda they spewed about it being "for the children and our safety!!!eleventy!"  Last time they did this, the money was mishandled and didn't go where they promised, so why do it again?  To line their wallets.  (Go ahead, ask me about the firefighters....)

Christie probably would not have stood for this shit.

281 193  OT:  Ok, I'm listening to Rush on a station out of Palm Springs CA, and every other ad is for some lefty organization.  Not to mention, the newsbreak reader guy sounded giddy that their piss-ant municipal council was going to "boycott Arizona!!!!!"    Is this what passes for 'conservative radio' in California?

Posted by: Dang Straights at May 21, 2010 01:01 PM (fx8sm)

No. This thread's probably dead but the real commercials on the radio station are replaced with (typically lefty) PSAs when the feed goes over the internet.
