Your Hazy, Lazy, Crazy....Not In CT Saturday Night (Nice Deb)
— Open Blogger

Okay fine...I get it. You need a new post. I've noticed the comments in the open thread have become increasingly bizarre and incoherent... The problem is, I've got nothing coherent to say, either....

We're screwed. How about that? Obama has gotten everything he's wanted so far to "transform" America, and he's not even through yet. They plan on doing even more damage after the elections during the lame duck session.

And then, even if we take over both houses of Congress, we have to deal with Obama, and all of his ridiculous czars. Everything that goes wrong, starting in 2011, (and there will be lots going wrong!) will be blamed on the Republican majority for not cooperating with his Majesty.

Paul Ryan (who I would love to see run for President) has a plan...maybe you've heard of his "Roadmap For America's Future"?

All I know is we need a Congress full of smart, ballsy guys like Ryan, to help us dig out of this hole.

Here's a fun "Happy, Snappy & Incredibly Crappy" Andrew Klavan video I posted today at Nice Deb:

This cracked me up (via iOWNTHEWORLD:)

Cute, but the guy's just not fat and d-baggy enough to be to play Goracle convincingly.

Here's another great clip - -"Sharon", at an Atlanta, GA tea party, preaches it:

Peade-out!

If we continue to act the way we have had in the past, then yes we are screwed.

But there is no reason that presuming we get a congressional majority, or at least the house, that we have to go along to get along anymore.

Pass a budget that defunds Obamacare and every other part of the Obama agenda. When the government "shuts down" go on TV and argue that Obama is more interested in funding his "czars" then x, y, and z.

Maybe it isn't likely, especially since the Republican party doesn't want to listen, but it is our last hope to salvage this country...

there are some who insist it would be better to NOT win the House and the Senate.

How good has it been for the country to be dependent ENTIRELY on the weakest links in our party in the Sen and House to avoid catastrophe?

We have NO CHANCE if we dont win both houses. We are likely to be disappointed if we win both back, but we will be utterly fucked if he maintains majorities in both houses. Though gaining 5 seats in the senate might "block" some of the shit, it won't stop a Senate that is contemplating eliminating the filibuster. These are the kind of nutcases we are dealing with now. So the election has become zero sum.

My choice in California is Fiorina or an Obama Senate.

The same for you morons in Illinois- Kirk or Obama Senate.

Washington- Rossi or Obama Senate.

and so on.

We have to put as much pressure in the primaries as we can to get the most conservative candidates we can- Toomey in Pa, Rubio in Fl, Portman in Oh. Elsewhere, we have to take what we can get, because the alternative is an Obama senate.

Will Kirk, Castle, etc piss us off? of course. but with a BASE of conservatives to filibuster and a republican majority to stop any movement to eliminate the filibuster, its a buffer until 2012.

Question is, what is the road out?  Services and entitlements have to be cut, and drastically.  It stands to reason that independents are tax payers, else why wouldn't they vote Democrat if they weren't the Paul that was being paid when Peter is being robbed by the socialists?

Are most paying voters, and even those who grasp the backloading of debt and hope to some day better their lives and their childrens lives, not ready to cut the size of government and the stolen largess of the State?

Diaries are a dying but valuable habit.

Very true. My mom has diaries of relatives from the late 1800's. Most of them were pastors and while the content is a bit drab, the usual day-to-day life is a fascinating insight on what life was really like.

One of my most prized possessions is a video diary taken years ago of a roadtrip two of my buddies and myself took to D.C. for a long weekend. Highlights were filming the tour of the J. Edgar Hoover building (prohibited by law) and stumbling onto the Wall which went from goofy and fun to sad and respectful in about half a minute.

Yeah, my Dad's diary was like that, drab.  Stuff like "Jerry strafed up today with Me 110s and we had tinned bully beef for lunch and split a can of treacle pudding 10 ways."  One interesting entry had a bud of his going off into a town in Libya after a siting of an Arab girl that gave him the come-hither stare and  his buddy getting his throat slit.  Lots of Brownie photos of burned out trucks/armour and a jeep that was totaled after Dad ran it into a stone fenceline at high speed.

It's also imperative that the Republicans capture as many Governorships/state assemblies as possible. Until there is a coherent fiscal policy out of Washington, the states must do some heavy lifting getting their expenses under control and lowering (or just controlling) their tax rates.

Illinois, California, and some others are boned fer shure, but don't think the FedGov won't bail them out. The chaos must be brought under control, or there will be ..........chaos?

I think I have that gene.  After one of my best friends died and my dad died, I didn't drink at all.  I knew that wasn't a good time for me.  Then I met the woman I married.  I made my own decisions, but her daily drinking made it easy for me to join in.  Not daily by any means, but enough--too much for me.

All right.  Flame away.  I watched Beck's final American Revival on livestream today and all I've got to say is:  Don't give up.  WE WIN.  He's got the ammo -- history -- and G-d on our side.  Start praying, Morons,  Pray hard.  I'd been hopeless for the last few days, but this program made me do a 180.

The Founders had a two-hour prayer and a couple chapters of Bible study during their first session of Congress.  During the original drafting of the Constitution, when [The Founders] couldn't get anywhere and state reps were leaving, Ben Franklin said a prayer asking that they be united in their purpose, and they finally got it together.

Reagan was the last real president to mention the Almighty in the manner of the Founders.  I think there's something to that and his success.  David Barton, a historian from Texas, showed that massive portions of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were taken either from the Bible or from preachers.  In fact, when the Brits learned of the fiery sermons the colonists were preaching about the Natural Law being God's Law, the Red Coats were told to kill them first.

When he took the stage this morning, Beck said that he got a call from a Wall Street Journal reporter who shall remain nameless (my guess is John Fund) who said he got wind of Beck being Public Enemy #1 of the Demonrat Party.  That's because he's onto something.

If anyone on here watched it --- Beck's people said the internet views were equal to the number of people that filled the SLC arena -- please chime in and let me know your two cents.

Whew!  What a relief.  Yeah, as Brenden (you lucky dog!) said, he cried big time.  I'm not a religious zealot by any means, but at the closing prayer with his presenters and their wives on stage, I had tears streaming down my face.

Judge Nappy Was. On. Fire.  He was amazing to watch sans teleprompter and not one um or uh.  Funny stories from da judge, and he related them all to what's going on now.

Posted by: RushBabe at July 17, 2010 08:33 PM (W8m8i)

59 Beck always seems to have a "major announcement".

Posted by: Nice Deb at July 17, 2010 08:35 PM (zcYjl)

60 Well, he and his wife weren't religious at all and she decided they needed to have a religion for their family, and while they were church shopping they finally went to the LDS church and their little daughter (the one who is mentally disabled I think) loved it there and wanted to go back, and they had their friend Pat who was a member so they went back. That's how it got started. There's a DVD out there somewhere where he talks about how he got involved in religion again.

As for eating backstage with him, the radio station here was giving away tickets to the show plus dinner and a meet and greet with Glenn Beck (since they're the sponsors they get their way), and I won it. So....I got about 400 dollars of free stuff. Great seats, free meals, autographs, and pictures with Beck.

I know he has one daughter (from the first marriage) with physical disabilities; and he has Raphe, who's the adopted 5 year old, who sounds like he also has physical disabilities.  I didn't know about the other daughter.  Geez!

The only person I ever won backstage tickets to meet was Larry the Cable Guy, and not that that was a bad thing, he was a truly nice guy.

At some point we're going to have to stop pissing and moaning at each other (Sharon this, Pawlenty that, etc. etc. ad nauseum) and start fighting to take our country back. Nov. is only the first battle, not the whole war. We need to get the House and as much of the Senate as we can so we can set up 2012. This whining that "if we take the Congress then the MFM can blame us for everything" is just crap. Here's a clue for you, they blame us for everything now, SO WHAT? We've got to get people in, and then support them when they're there.

Another note about the American Revival, is that the audience skewed heavily to the older demographic. Being 25 with my 22 year old girl friend made us probably the youngest people there. Surrounded by old people. And old people fart. Without saying excuse me.  -_-

As you well know I've made 5000 videos on Barack Obama. I think I know Barack Obama almost as well as Michelle Obama or even better. I can give you some insights that might cheer you up:

1. Barack and Michelle hate each other

2. She has finally figured out that he's a gay American Kenyan.

3. He has lost so much weight that he's either still on coke or has a serious illness.

4. His supporters are demoralized. Where did all the trolls go?

5. My husband and I are the only ones watching when he comes on TV in our local bar in liberal Massachusetts.

6. Granny Jan won't stop until I take him down. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

66 "New data from the Department of Education shows that of federal student loan borrowers whose loans entered repayment in 1995, fully one in five -- or 20% -- have since gone into default.

To put that number in perspective, the default rate on first mortgages hit a record high of 5.67% in 2009 and has since pulled back to 3.71%. The default rate on credit cards is 9.14%, and the default rate on car loans peaked at 2.75% last year.

And while defaults on those loans generally require just three months of missed payments, a federal student loan must go close to one year without payments before it is considered to be in default."

Agree on ND/DE/IN/AR, but CO and PA aren't likely at all; they're very slight leans to the GOP at best.  The rest of them are pure toss-ups in which anything can happen, with the exception of CA, where Boxer will likely win, and CT on down, in which Democrat wins are virtually certain.

The Senate's a very long row to hoe.

not necessarily.

Toomey and Norton are both favorites in their polling.

and the rest are tossups, but that alone is a good sign for us-

ALL THREE current slight DEM leaning tossups- Wisconsin, Washington, California- have three-term senators with polling in the 40s. All three in recent weeks have shown favor for the top Republican candidates (SurveyUSA CA, Field CA, WashingtonPoll WA, Rasmussen WA, PPP WI, Rasmussen WI.)

Its not as long as many might think.

I think we pick up a good 7 right now, with at least 1 of NV/IL/WA/WI/CA in addition to CO/PA/IN/AR/DE/ND. We will see what else starts swaying...

73 Norton or Buck should win by 4 or 5 points as long as nothing out of the ordinary happens.

I would have believed that several years ago, but for a decade now nothing has impeded CO's steady shift toward the Democrats, and John Hickenlooper at the top of the ballot ought to spur Dem turnout.  CO's definitely winnable this year but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Well you know your stuff.

The current plagarism scandal involving our most likely gov nominee (hoping he quits or loses in the primary) doesn't help.  And yes it's true we have drifted leftward in the last 6 years or so.

Hick is a strong candidate.  The only dim I every voted for actually.  In a non partison mayoral election against more liberal opponents of course.

My gut, as a native, and as a natural pessimist tells me Buck will beat Bennet though, somewhat comfortably.

CA's about the longest shot there is, no matter what the polls say at this point.  An average of the last two CA Senate polls have Boxer several points up; even if it were tied, Fiorina loses.  The state is just too far gone and the unions are too powerful.  If any state will be a Dem firewall against the GOP tide this year, it's going to be California, where too many people actually believe Schwarzenegger's failures are "Republican" failures and Jerry Brown's likely to win the governorship.

Washington, well, we all know what happened to Dino Rossi the last time he won a statewide race in Washington.  Wisconsin was stolen by the Democrats as recently as the 2004 presidential election.  All of these three states are winnable, which is remarkable in itself, but everything has to go right and counting on wins against entrenched incumbents in deep-blue territory is not a wise idea.

I prefer seizing the optomistic polling, galvanize and utilize the irate independents and excited Republicans, registering new voters and keeping on their toes.

I am fully aware of the longshot odds, but NO ONE expected the 12 seat pickup of 1980. Most of those races were within the margin of error going into election day.

I think the destruction of ACORN and GETTING A NETWORK IN PLACE for support and challenges (like what Whitman has done with about $30 million alone for the state party) gives REPUBLICANS the slight edge in the tossups this year.

Yeah, I saw that... you guys have forgotten that plagiarism is only okay when you're Joe Biden.  And it's pretty damn late for McInnis to get out now.

What's disheartening about the CO shift to the left is that even good GOP years haven't impeded it.  It's seen a very steady move to the Dems over the last decade at both the state and federal levels.  I expect 2010 to shift the tide somewhat, but it's still going to be a very tough state going forward.

>>>>Hick is a strong candidate.  The only dim I every voted for actually.  In a non partison mayoral election against more liberal opponents of course.

When I saw that Ritter was bowing out and Hickenlooper getting in, my immediate reaction was "aww, SHIT," not just over the governor's race but because of the impact it will have down the ballot.  Last I heard, he was pretty popular, and the best thing that could happen for endangered Democrats like Bennet, Betsy Markey, and maybe even John Salazar in a pure-tossup state like CO's become is for a popular gubernatorial candidate to give Dems a reason to get to the polls.

That's not what I'm saying at all.  Indeed, I'm heartened that these states are real fights this year.  I've just been through enough political disappointments to keep my optimism in check for races this volatile, and even if we WIN I'm not at all confident it will end up doing us any good as we enter the darkest times most of us have ever seen.  That doesn't mean we shouldn't fight on.

Luckily our primary isn't until the 10th so there is still hope.  A little known legistator is in it.  Dan Maes.  He's got my support at this point.

Thank you Californians and Stuff White People Like/wise latino/as.  I'm afraid CO has become a solid purple state.  This year should be pretty good, but I'm afriad it's only temporary.

Big time.  I had the same feelings.  He is popular.  And for a Dim, a good guy.  Relatively pro business, and the city of Denver has been lucky to have him.  I have to admit, I like the guy.  Would never vote for him in a non mayoral election though, of course.

The plagurist gov candidate was the rep for lil Sal's district for years.

They bought into the conservative dim, gun tottin line.

It's a bellweather district.  If the GOP wins there, it probably means a solid 10 or more seat majority in the house.

92 Good Morning M&Ms.

And then, even if we take over both houses of Congress, we have to deal with Obama, and all of his ridiculous czars. Everything that goes wrong, starting in 2011, (and there will be lots going wrong!) will be blamed on the Republican majority for not cooperating with his Majesty.

A lot of people keep saying that but I think that is a case of fighting an old war over again under new circumstances.

The last time that happened was the intentional false government shutdown by Bill Clinton during the budget battle. It was a plan by the Dems from the very beginning before congress had even submitted the budget package. (yes that has been documented)

The objective was to blame the House, and in particular Newt Gingrich. With the aid of the press, and the fact that the Republicans didn't fight it all, the strategy was successful.  Later it turned out that the Republicans didn't fight it worth a damn because the liberal wing of the Party led by our good friend RINO Graham wanted to seize control of the Party from the more confrontational and conservative Newt faction. The Party went downhill from there and has never really recovered.

So what is different now?  First of all the press, otherwise known as the MFM, no longer has a monopoly on information dissemination AND is at the lowest point ever in public trust.  So the Dems, even with the MFM in their back pocket, will not get much mileage there.  The MFM has shot its wad.

Second, the control of the Republican Party by the RINO faction is being beat back one RINO at a time. People like DeMint and Palin or pushing out true conservative candidates and the RINOs like Inglis are getting the boot in primaries.

So bottom line. Lets not fight last year's war today. Lets be not afraid to challenge these people and call it out at every opportunity what miserable commies they are. IOW quit playing nice!  And when on Fox doing one of those stupid F&B Debates, call out the lies when the Dem spouts them. Make them prove every lie.

And how do you know they are lying?  Their mouths are open.

97 One way to clear the Obama veto table is to impeach the naked emperor, AND PROSECUTE!

I would love to see that happen but it won't because we can not take a large enough percentage of both houses to do it.

The best we could hope to do is force a reduction in spending through hardball tactics from the House. Refuse to let the RINOs like Graham in the Senate cross the aisle and make deals by simply voting all the deals down in the House.

If they are not willing to get spending down to 2006 levels - 10% then shutdown the government and do not spend anything. I think the public would love that.

Posted by: Vic at July 18, 2010 03:16 AM (/jbAw)

98 Paul Ryan (who I would love to see run for President has a plan...

I have seen a lot of people pushing Paul Ryan for 2012. I think a lot of that has to do with the conservative rhetoric from the CPAC speech last year (this year?).

I have been trying to determine exactly how conservative he really is based on his actual record. Politicians always talk a good game and at a conservative venue of course they are going to talk conservative. But looking at his actual record he is not the darling conservative that everyone believes. Hell, being elected in WI he can't be too much of a conservative.

Going to my favorite, the ACU he has a good record in 2009 of 96 but not so good in 2008 with 84. 2007 - 96, 2006 - 92. In general it looks like a case of moving to the right near elections and away from it during the non-election year. His lifetime record is a more moderate 92.

Looking at the "On the Issues" web site they rate him as a hard right conservative. But with that web site you have to be very careful. They give him a good score on immigration reform (for conservative) because he was for "McCain-Kennedy" which was for immigration reform "without amnesty". Anyone familiar with that bill knows that it was in fact amnesty and the damn OTI website was simply taking lying weasel McCain's word for it.

Looking at how he actually voted on key issues he has a mixed record. But contrary to what I said the other day, he did vote NO on crap and tax (I had thought he had voted for it). He did vote YES for the porkulus bill which, given what was in the bill, is a BIG downer.

He has one other thing that hurts him. Traditionally congress critters have a hard time getting elected as President and no member of the House has ever been elected that I know of.

Overall I would prefer someone with a more conservative record and will vote so in the primaries. But if he were chosen as the candidate, based on what I know now, I could probably support him.

I don't see anything less than a "Watergate" like debacle bringing impeachment to the fore...and maybe not even then. The best thing for the new (hopefully) republican house to do is just refuse to fund anything until, as Vic stated, a new budget with massive cuts to spending can be passed and approved.

Impeachment would just put another bullet in the left's racist guns. He should just be left to wither on the vine and go down with Carter in ignomy.

Posted by: hobbes at July 18, 2010 03:42 AM (WiOnI)

100 I don't see anything less than a "Watergate" like debacle bringing impeachment to the fore...and maybe not even then.

Yeah, we have already seen that even with items worse than a Watergate event the Dems can not be impeached. Clinton was shown to have committed perjury in open court and had just as big an "enemies" list as Nixon, and and even worse record on abuse of power.

The problem is that Dems NEVER hold their politicians accountable and the RINOs like Specter will always cross the aisle on issues like that.

I think for a Democrat to be impeached the Republican Party would have to have a 90% majority in both houses.

117 Here's something you can post about-the McCain-Hayworth debates. I have seen virtually nothing on them. I would think that would be something most people would be interested in.

And while everybody worries about Obama transforming the nation, maybe we can in the meantime transform the Republican Party into a machine that will not stand for it without putting up a fight and taking off the kid gloves while doing it.

That means not playing defense when accused of racism, sexism, homophobia, and every other ism and phobia they can think of to throw. It means taking control of the debate and not allowing the Democrats to define you and otherwise run the table.

I'm not saying necessarily that the Tea Party should throw out all the RINOs. You're going to need some Scott Browns, unfortunately, in order to regain and maintain majority status. So maybe some reasonable morph of the two, like two thirds of three fourths Tea Party with just enough RINOs to get us over the top.
