— Dave in Texas Obama is a stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure. Let's get that right out there.
We’ve been within 0.2 points of 9% since January, sometimes a bit higher, sometimes a bit lower, but essentially going nowhere. Just like Tim Geithner predicted 18 months ago...So when the Obama administration tells you things are “unexpected” or “worse than we thought,” remember that they’ve known exactly what would happen for 18 months. And they did nothing. Or at the least, they did nothing useful.

I recall our "A:\" drive was the 5" floppy disks. I remember Quest for Glory I (Hero's Quest as it was then known) came on ten of them. There were also 4 3.5" disks if you so choose to install that way. The game was probably about 8 megabytes in size and had about twenty hours of playtime.

Obama Fundraiser Pushed Solyndra Deal From Inside
An elite Obama fundraiser hired to help oversee the administration's energy loan program pushed and prodded career Department of Energy officials to move faster in approving a loan guarantee for Solyndra, even as his wife's law firm was representing the California solar company, according to internal emails made public late Friday.
"How hard is this? What is he waiting for?" wrote Steven J. Spinner, a high-tech consultant and energy investor who raised at least $500,000 for the candidate before being appointed to a key job helping oversee the energy loan guarantee program. "I have OVP [the Office of the Vice President] and WH [the White House] breathing down my neck on this."

That 100 million + dead in the 20th century because of communism, that's not a bug that's one of its features. Remember Ayers thought that at least 10% of the US population would need "reeducation" or worse, which in the sixties would have been around 25 million people here at home.
They lust for power over us, for the power to make us suffer. The commies because that's the whole appeal of communism, and the obamunists because he and his followers despise us and everything we represent.

65 But who remembers Steve Case?
Steve Case was the cat's tits back in the mid-to-late 90's. He's the jerk responsible for all those annoying AOL cd's in your mailbox.
I got a mailing from Steve Case last week, he's selling timeshares and no I'm not kidding!!
But they're not calling them "timeshares", it's some sort of "luxury vacation investment" or nonsense gobblety goo like that.

It looks like it's a reciprocal thing. I believe that the LDS Church doesn't recognize non-LDS baptisms and most (all?) of the major apostolic Christian sects don't recognize LDS baptisms. I believe part of it has to do with their very different concept of the Trinity (they seem to reject it) as well as what seems to be a rejection of the apostolic foundations of the modern Church.
As far as I'm concerned, they recognize the divinity of Christ, so I'd call them Christians. But I admit I am not too keen on delving very deeply into their specific beliefs, because it's my understanding (from talking with folks well-connected in the LDS church) there are some pretty anti-Catholic roots.
All I care about is how people treat me and others.

#191 - taking shots at a candidate's religion should be off limits. Hopefully it was someone not connected with the Perry campaign.
As for the Romney blue states thing - Romney is more moderate than Perry so he picks up more support in the more moderate states (purple and blue). As stated here recently the issue boils down to a) Perry can win the red states but can he win purple states vs b) Romney can win purple states but does that cause a problem with red states?

Did I miss the link to the details or if not, can anyone link? Did the preacher say Mormons are not 'Chritians', call for a jihad against Deseret, or something in between?

(If you're responding to me) I guess my point about relevancy is simply this: if someone holds a commonly held view (which it's my understanding based on polls I've seen reported is the case, justifiably or not) about someone's religion, it's relevant to them, certainly, but it is not relevant to anyone who doesn't make their decisions about hiring based on someone's religion. So, if anything, I suppose it could help Romney by weakening the strength of the Southern Baptist Conference leader's endorsement amongst people who find that guy's opinion offensive.
Cult is certainly a loaded term, but all that matters is what weight each individual chooses to place on someone's religion.

Lincolntf is reporting a tweet(s) he read from the Hill.
I could not find what he read reported at the Hill's website, but I tried to provide context by pointing out that the Hill reported that Perry was not going to be introduced by a "surrogate," but rather by the leader of the Southern Baptists who is planning on endorsing Perry.
Unless there's some evidence that Perry is running around saying Mormons drowned puppies, I really don't see the relevance. It is commonly known that many Christians do not consider LDS to be true Christians. That's kind of just life.
I don't think it benefits Romney's campaign to make an issue of this incident (even if it did happen, which I still don't know is the case) since it plays right into the questions about Mitt's electability.
Posted by: Y-not at October 07, 2011 01:06 PM (5H6zj)
I think many voters are more comfortable with a candidate who has relatively mainstream, generic religious views but there is evidence that they really do not care about the details of those views.
Many evangelical Christians term any religion with a focus an individual (?) outside of the Trinity as a cult. That would include LDSism (Joseph Smith) and Islam (Mohamet or whatever this month's preferred spelling is).
Posted by: RioBravo at October 07, 2011 01:06 PM (eEfYn)
"“As evangelical Christians, we understand that Mormonism isn’t Christianity and thus the difference between someone who is good and moral like Mitt Romney and a true follower of Christ [like Perry],” Jeffress told reporters after Perry’s speech. “I think the decision for conservative evangelical Christians right now is going to be, do we prefer somebody who is truly a believer in Jesus Christ or somebody who is a good moral person but is a member of a cult? And it’s not politically correct to say but it is true: Mormonism is a cult.”"
So it was not something said during the introduction, it was said in a presser afterwards. To me, there is no impact on Perry. If this minister chooses to make an issue of it, that's his business.

Yeah, that's my impression.
I confess that the way I was raised (Roman Catholic) we spent absolutely no time critiquing/analyzing/whatever other peoples' religions. We were taught RC is the one true faith. End of story. In other words, my parents would have been just as freaked out if I became a Lutheran as they would if I became a Latter-Day Saint.

Based on that article there is nothing to this as I see it. That has been their view of Mormons since there have been Mormons. Of course the language would have been a bit more harsh in the past.
I am sure that there are some who will not vote for a Mormon candidate because of his religion but that is nothing new.
Posted by: RioBravo at October 07, 2011 01:16 PM (eEfYn)
Well, my impression is that the guy was speaking as a minister of his particular faith. I mean, he makes a point of saying that Romney is a good man -- just not a good Christian. I don't know if it will sway anyone. I certainly don't give a rat's ass.

I mean, the Pope himself could stand up and expound on the ins and outs of Evangelicalism, the LDS faith, or what-have-you and simply would not rate on the give-a-shit-meter when I cast my vote.
Posted by: Y-not at October 07, 2011 01:21 PM (5H6zj)
My read of the article Tami linked is that they are trying to gin up controversy.
Do you think Perry should reject the endorsement based on what the guy said at the presser afterward?
Posted by: Y-not at October 07, 2011 01:22 PM (5H6zj)
I also agree this appears to be a nothing item so far. My statement at #204 was more general in that religion should be off limits in campaigns.
#215 - Perry does seem to punching back much harder at Romney. I just hope he doesn't pull the Mormon card in order to get the GOP nomination.

I agree, let's keep religion out of this, which is one reason I rejected Cain. I can't forgive him for his 'won't hire Muslims' comment.
I really dug around Perry's background before signing on because, frankly, my best friend now is LDS and I am living in Utah. I could not find any public evidence of Perry having a "Mormon problem." Now, whether or not in the context of his faith he believes stuff about the LDS faith that I disagree with, I can't say. I know he believes in a much more literal interpretation of the Bible than I do, but I am at peace with that. I can't hold Perry's Evangelical faith against him any more than I can hold Romney's beliefs against him.

They is the people who authored the article - The Hill. As you pointed out, they introduced the term surrogate.
If the original tweet is as you reported, then there has been an injustice done to Perry, because the cult comment came after Perry's speech during the minister's press conference, not during the introduction as reported.
Posted by: Y-not at October 07, 2011 01:34 PM (5H6zj)
I think this is a dead horse now but...
I would prefer Cains with his view that he would be reluctant to appoint a Muslim to his cabinet than the idiocy we have been stuck with for the past 10 years. Bush was inviting every prominent terrorist-supporting Muslim leader in the country for White House meetings accompanied by asinine statements about the hijacking of Islam. He was clueless (in part, surpisingly, to his particular blend of Christianity) which is why we spent fruitless years trying to bring Western-style democracy to Iraq and Afghanistan.
