Survivor Finale
— Ace

Correction: This doesn't seem to be the Apprentice Finale. Sorry, I thought it was.

A possible bit of news in the Apprentice Finale, because Trump has claimed in his live finale, he'd be making an announcement. Presumably about running for office.

The trouble is, NBC says that finale was taped.

“The show this weekend [part one of the finale] was taped back in November, and next week’s episode is also taped,” Pannozzo said. “So there will be no opportunity for him to do something like that.”

What? Didn’t Trump himself suggest to The New York Times that he’d be delivering the news—or at least news of when and where he’d deliver the news—of his presidential plans on the show?

“I am thinking of saying on the live finale of The Apprentice on May 22 that in a few days I will be making an announcement about my decision,” Trump told the Times. ”I might ask the two finalists if I should run for president. Of course, if they’re intelligent they’ll have to say yes, since I’m about to fire one of them.”

Not exactly, according to the show’s publicist. “There will be no announcement,” Pannozzo said. “It’s just misinformation on his part.” Pannozzo insists there will be no live segments of the show. Asked about Pannozzo’s comments, Trump spokesman Michael Cohen confirmed to National Journal: “Mr. Trump will not be making any announcement during the finale of The Apprentice.”

Is Trump lying? I don't know. I know in the past the finale has been live but containing chiefly recorded material. Maybe they tape a show, and then people keep quiet about winners and losers, and then they re-stage the show live, even though the winner was already picked. And maybe NBC decided that they wouldn't permit Trump to do that this time.

I haven't watched The Apprentice much anymore but it always was live before.

On Survivor, no political news. Reading the editing tea leaves: Whoever is going to win, the editors know it, because they already saw it happen. So they can (and always do) shape their editing to give the winner a good cut, a warm and fuzzy cut, even if the winner is a coattail rider who didn't do much on the show.

On the show, only two (and maybe three) people have been given anything like a hero's edit: Rob, Matt, and maybe Andrea. Mike, the Afghanistan veteran with the winner's edge, can't possibly be winning, because they would be featuring him in confessionals every week.

Natalie and Ashley? I wasn't even sure of their names until last week.

And they haven't shown much of Matt or Andrea lately, either.

Even though you might say, "Of course they're giving Rob a lot of screen time, he's making the moves," well yes, but they can always show the winner talking about family, or just sticking with it, or something for the audience to relate to and identify with them on.

They did that with Sandra, for example, when she won twice, despite being a bit of a coattail-commuter. You always got her sassy chatter in confessionals. They made sure you knew her.

According to editing: Mike and Grant are ciphers, despite being likable and hunky. The two girls are cute but virtually unheard from. Matt and Andrea get a little face time.

And Rob's on the show all the time.

Well, honestly, so is Philip. But I gotta figure that's just because he's zany and in this snoozer of a season that's how they filled the time.

Oh man. Geeze Louise, Philip might win.

Oh, I guess there is a slight political angle: A lot of viewers are annoyed that Matt the Christian gets so much Jesus-talk out into his edits. Not sure why that bothers people, but there you go.

1 It is difficult for me to overstate my lack of interest in either one of these shows.  Yeah, I'm an elitist.

2 So, are they saying that he couldn't possibly insert a live, or newly recorded message into the end of the show? During ad space? I mean, his show's producers couldn't say diddly-shit about that, right?

This is what pisses me off about Survivor.  I have been watching this season.  You know every Wednesday at 8PM.  And now its the Finale and I would have completely missed it because its on Sunday night if not for this reminder.  So instead I'll be coming in just a half hour late after the nieces are in bed.

Air your fucking finale on the night your show is on!

12 OT

This is awesome.  Go to DayLife and just read the top headlines and pic description and then (directly under these) read the quote they have up for BO (quadrupling the border patrol).

Tons of WIN!

Pass the pudding please.

Oh I know.  But that pisses me off about them.  I honestly think I've only watched about 5 and a half of all their seasons.

This is a potential bombshell.

Remember what Ace said about the courier story possibly being a subterfuge?

Now I kmow that Ace likes to keep the Ulsterman stuff at arms length, but this info tracks with quite a bit about what Ulsterman's source said about what really went down with the OBL takedown.

22 I think Phillip's strategy was a good one, be so annoying they can't help but take you to the finale. But Matt is great at winning those challenges on Redemption Island.

However, at 8 I am switching over to Game of Thrones on HBO. Priorities.
Tonight we get to see the Eyrie!

23 I have my satellite receiver tuned to the channel it is on 90% of the time. Music

I have over a hundred TV channels and still have fewer good shows to watch than I did in the 50s when we only had 2 channels.

I'm hoping that he is a finalist just so I can hear whatever it is he has to say.  He claimed he has a strategy of what to say to get the votes.

I wonder if Rob will play the Immunity Idol?  I don't think he has yet.

25 #30  If that isn't the truth!  My daughter was watching an old movie.  She siad there is nothing on.  She is Generation Y.  If SHE says there is nothing on,  they are in a programming EPIC FAIL.

Here are the non-news channel shows we watch: Pawn Stars (love the Old man); American Pickers; American Idol (when my grandkids are here); re-runs of Frazier; a few shows on EWTN,  the Catholic channel;  old (pre 1965) movies; an occasional documentary on History,  National Geographic,  or BBC.

We never watch network television.  There is literally nothing on.  This is why my TV is usually on Fox or C-SPAN.

32 Love Survivor, although this season has been a bit of a disappointment.  I'm a Russell fan and he flamed out so early (no one to blame but himself, of course).  Don't like Ace's butt-buddy Boston Rob, but I'd rather see him win than that freakapotamus Philip.

I actually like Rob.  I mean his strategy of getting the idol and then not telling anyone has been pretty perfect.

Was disappointed that Russel was gone early though since he was devious.

35 I figured he went to Horace Mann cause it is "sort of a prep school for those that can't get into the more prestigious ones" but he went to Dalton, his dad went to Horace Mann.

39 >>> I mean his strategy of getting the idol and then not telling anyone has been pretty perfect. He was one of the few if any people to earn the idol. He created a whole diversion away from camp to race back and search for it. He didn't just stumble upon it or get lucky.

Don't forget his showing another clue to Grant.  And then just destroying a third clue so no one else finds it.  The only other good strategy I saw for the hidden immunity idols was the old asian guy making a fake one to hide.

42 this survivor season, as bad as everyone says it was, had so many funny moments. rob kept the idol because that's old school. real poker players don't use jokers as wildcards. but this is what new school player hantz did, and it made his two seasons outrageously entertaining.

i watched colby top shot and his  lines are a line by line copy of probst. still, loving top shot. wish the money prize was bigger. colby asked," so what are you gonna buy with the winnings?" the contestant said, "a new motorcycle and with the rest of the money, a few more guns." oh, wow. how about with all this money, i am going to buy myself a panzer and drive it everyday to work cuz that's how much money i won bitches. my license plate on my panzer will say, global warmers can suck on this.

now rob is going be also on the history channel with his own show of 80 different ways to circumnavigate the globe. part of it will be by ostrich. lol. what the hell is ostrich travel doing on the history channel? is this what the guy bringing the myrrh to Jesus used?

Posted by: befuddled at May 15, 2011 05:34 PM (xJU23)

43 #35 Barb the Evil Genius,  one of the reasons I like those shows is that I sell antiques and collectibles on eBay.  I like to see what they find and kibitz the Pickers who (I think) sometimes spend too much and miss things that would make them money.

I am always amazed at the people who will bring stuff in to the pawn shop and take less than they think an item is worth and never think about eBay.  Am also amazed at people who will sell a family heirloom in order to gamble or buy a motorbike.

54 As if Trump can't edit the final cut of HIS production.

As if Trump can't buy or arrange commercial airtime.

As if Trump can't run a printed message across the screen during the show's airing.

For someone who doesn't want him to run, why bother with the thread?

What would be comedic is Trump's next season's Apprentice show of potus candidates. Wait and see that for a laugh, Trump assigning tasks to all the hopefuls who decided themselves to NOT run '12 to publicly winnow out his or the next guy's "hopeful" Cabinet.

I'd like to see Les Stroud on one tribe & Bear Grylls on the other. This inviting people back is old right now. They should wait a few seasons for that. I'd also like to see them get dumped somewhere in the continental US, as long as it is comfortable enough for the hot chicks to wear their bikinis. Arizona desert? There are plenty of wild places right here in the USA that would fit the bill.

Tangent of mine: I bet Rachel Hunter would play. If Jimmy Johnson can be a celebrity contestant, why not Rachel Hunter? She did "Help, I'm a Celebrity...", that Giligan's Island thing & Dancing with the Stars. We needs to see her on tv again, yesssss my precious, wearing a bikini and eating something raw and wriggly...

Looks like I am alone here, but- when will the contestants haggle for a higher top prize? It started out as a million ~ 10 years ago. That was before the ratings went through the roof, as a first season show. They aren't all that as far as manipulators if they are "only" winning a million. We need a good liberal to come to their aid and call out Probst et al as a bunch of greedy scumbags.

At least go for a million + inflation over the past ten years or so.

Anyone know where I can get some nice shoes at a discount?
