A Friendly Reminder
— Gabriel Malor

In case you were wondering just who has nuclear weapons, pretty much every college student in the country has this memorized:

I'm told this is in some way relevant to presidential politics this year, but that can't possibly be the case, can it?

I think the people that toil in her hubby's vineyards and restaurants should unionize now!  I also think that SEIU's acutual employees should too.  Oh, and Michael Moore's employees should form a Union as should any of the hired help that work for Hollywood Celebutards and Democrat politicians.  The hypocrisy is stunning.

39 Hey Miss Tammy! I have my surgery on the 15th. A little mix-up at the hospital for my biopsy, as the hospital called me in a week early, and the attending doc performed the procedure, didn't write up the report, and left town. My doctor and I were hanging for two weeks, wondering what the hell happened. It's now straightened out, and I may not need any chemo, if they can remove it encapsulated. At least now I have an excuse for how tired I am. After they take it out, I'm actually going to have to get up and get stuff done.

not sure if they had functioning nukes, but they gave up their nuke program in 1994 with the fall of the Apartheid government.

It is widely believe the Israeli's helped them build and develope nukes in return for allowing Israel to test it's nukes in South Africa.

Poke holes all over it and stuff garlic cloves in them. Cook it with potatoes, onion, apple, and a bottle of Dos Equis Amber. I used half a big yellow onion and one apple, but in retrospect probably should've doubled those two ingredients. It was still really good!

Yup, and proudly so--circa 2008.

Where at in Pa and what was his old job?

So Ben, he's in Southeast PA.  My brother has undergrad degrees in secondary math ed and math, and he's almost done getting his Masters in Financial planning.  (I think he's going to finish up in a couple of weeks).

He never worked as a teacher because when he got out of school, there weren't any permanent jobs (only subbing) due to decreased enrollments.   He started at State Farm, became some kind of manager and did some kind of educational programs for insurance agents.  He left there about 6 or 7 years ago because the travel was too hard on his family.  He has since been at a place that was like a college for insurance companies.  He wrote a lot of books and articles for them and did some e-classes (mostly on wealth creation/management), I think.

98 I realize it's fun to poke fun at Cain for this, but when the site linked in the original post can't adequately describe basic fucking math, it loses a bit of it's luster.

It's the sour cream. Too many dumbasses in the world for me to tolerate.

That's what I normally use.  I am going to try this new recipe.

#93: Funny you should mention that, RunningRN... Grandpa was serving as a mess cook in the Army at the time. He got a Purple Heart out of it.

A very well deserved Purple Heart--unlike the Purple Heart John Kerry was awarded for sustaining rice being embedded in his butt.

chemmy, the cream cheese in the stroganoff sounds like the secret ingredient.

yup.... mmmmmmmmmmm

If you want to fuck up a stroganoff with cream cheese you can feed it to picky kids, so be it.

Real stroganoff is made with sour cream, more suited to the adult palate.

104 wow, what a thread...i wish i had a good crock-pot recipe to share...re the vid, I agree, the scoamf should prove to anyone with two functioning neurons that electing a US president is more than voting for this weeks American Idol, and it helps if said president-elect knows a few things before being elected. The number of US states for example is a good start. I'm assuming this post is in addition to being an open thread also relating to the earlier CNN-Cain interview one. And while this you-tube is cute, ...it's no Wargames. To the bigger issue at hand, I can't speak for others, but the reason I think so many people are willing to jump on the candidate band-wagon du jour is because we know we'll vote for the nominee (whoever it is). At present it sure sounds like it will be Romney. I have friends and acquaintances who are his supporters and as y'all like to say here, all I can say is we are boned. They view his election as good for them, and oh yeah, good for the country too (because it's not obama). That might have been okay in 2000, or even 2008. That won't fly in 2012. So everyone who runs against Romney get's a bump, because they're not him. That alone has to tell his supporters (and his future foe alike) something. I guarantee Bill Daley and David Axelrod have noticed. Is the latest candidate du-jour, Cain perfect? Of course not, no one is. But is his character capable? Is Romney's? We need a President for all America. Not America and others...and not for just a select few. It's going to be a long year...and now I have to go find a crock-pot recipe

This a bit dated.  Additionally, if one is going to speak with some coherence on geopolitics and atomic energy you have to view it from the perspective of capability and intent.

The nuclear club does include the declared members US, Russia, China, the UK, France, India, Pakistan, and North Korea, but Israel is an undeclared member, and Japan, Taiwan and South could probably assemble nuclear weapons in the matter of weeks. Saudi Arabia may be able to purchase its capablity from Pakistan if push came to shove in a confrontation with Iran.

Iran is in the throes of having a nuclear capability, and Brazil and Germany would not find it too difficult to assemble a weapon as well.

It is not outside the realm of possibility that a country formerly part of the USSR possessing weapons or weapons grade materials.

Of these Russia and the US still have the greatest capability, with the US maintaining a deterent posture with the Triad of Bombers, ICBMs and SLBMs.

Russian capability extends from a strategic intercontinental capability maintained mostly on ICBMs, and SLBMs, and tactical capability on SRBM and artillery.  Certainly they have taken advantage of advances in satellite and celestial guidance since the fall of the USSR to enhance the accuracy of their systems.

Following the US and USSR China has continued to improve its capability in numbers, range and accuracy, some technical advances courtesy of the Clinton administration.

The French and the UK maintain a capability almost as an indicator of their self regard as a world power, much like their seats on the UN, but these countries continue to downsize their nuclear force to token numbers.

India's capabilities on SRBMs and IRBMs are directed towards Pakistan, and the Pakistan capability mirrors that as a response.

North Korea continues its program to be able to blackmail South Korea, Japan and the US.

The challenges posed to the US by the intents of each of these powers varies according to their values.  THe US and UK have always had a close relationship, while the French capability has served the West as a wild card.

The Israeli capabilty is viewed as being in the possession of a rational entity to the extent that many of the Arab states are not unduly alarmed.

The Indian nuclear capability may be considered relatively benign by all except Pakistan, while Pakistan's nukes could be seen as vulnerable to control by a less rational and more radical regime.

Russia may use use their capability to press their advantage at the margins, but their advantage is not well served by instability elsewhere in the world. They will mostly, in probability, leverage it to maintain or increase hegemony over the countries on their perifery, especially the former republics that were part of the USSR.

China is taking up the  role as the competitor and adversary of the US that the USSR once performed, albeit with more nationalist rather than ideological drive.

Iran is the greatest threat of all.  Their eventual development of a nuclear capability will completely change the dynamic of the interelation of nations in the Middle East and South-West Asia, and will greatly limit options for action by the US in those regions and alter its relations with Europe.

112 If Perry supporters can laugh off his debate performances - which indicate an inability to use the bully pulpit to inspire the American people - then I can laugh of Herman's latest gaffe. Funny video, if a little too unilateral-disarmament-we-are-all-so-stupid-we-are-all-doomed-doomed-doomed!, for me.

117 For those who say the job market is great for those who have the "right skills": My son, who has a degree in Chemical Engineering, finally found full-time employment after more than a year after graduating. And, guess what, its in the South. He loves living there, says everything seems so much younger there (we're from Ohio). I guess the South is rising again.
