It was a nearly impossible feat–one that average citizens almost certainly could never achieve. The vast majority of purchase opportunities went to institutional investors, large mutual funds, or pension funds.Despite Pelosi’s consistent railing against credit card companies, on March 18, 2008, the Pelosis bought between $1 million and $5 million (politicians do not have to report the exact amounts, only ranges) worth of Visa stock at the IPO price of $44 per share. Two days later, the stock price rocketed to $65 per share, yielding a 50% profit. The Pelosis then bought Visa twice more. By their third purchase on June 4, 2008, Visa was worth $85 per share.

On 60 Minutes' website there's some story about how Congress isn't subject to insider trading rules and so they profit on market swings tied to pending legislation or regulatory changes.

The San Francisco Democrat and House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, were questioned separately at their weekly news conferences Nov. 3 by reporter Steve Kroft. Neither had granted Kroft's previous requests for interviews.
Kroft asked both leaders about stock transactions they made while Congress was considering legislation that could affect the financial and insurance industries. Pelosi and Boehner vigorously denied any connection.
Laws against insider trading - making stock bets based on information the public doesn't have - do not apply to Congress. Studies have shown that stock portfolios on Capitol Hill outperform the market. Legislation that would ban insider trading by members and staffers has languished.

You'd be a fool then. You have no idea how much better a leader Boehner has been for that caucus than anyone the GOP has had in decades. VASTLY superior to Gingrich, Hastert, Delay, etc.

I think Steve Kroft is a bit better than the rest but still, my guess would be that the story was presented to them and they had a chance to snag it or watch it go to the competition with a footnote that CBS had chosen not to pursue it.

This doesn't make sense. Breitbart hypes this up to ask Baucus to step down, and doesn't ask the same of Pelosi or any dems? Was what Baucus did any worse than Pelosi? So we eat our own while the dems laugh at these charges? Is this a moral high ground thing? If so, that's pointless. The dems aren't moral and they don't care. They laugh at us holding our own to higher standards. They use it as a tool against us. If there's any calls for people to step down over insider trading, then it should be globally applied. Singling out a republican will just provide headlines that the left can use against us. It gives the appearance that only republicans are guilty. I hope there's more to this story that fully justifies Breitbart's demands and is more damning of the left also.

I can think of no reason whatsoever that members of Congress should be exempt from the same laws the rest of us have to follow. The only exception to that is their Constitutional protection from being arrested while in transit to and from work.
I'm opposed to term limits in general, but it may be the only cure as long as gerrymandering and minority/majority districts are permitted/required.

If the media ever actually dug into her actions during the financial crisis, she'd be up for treason charges.
Now if she was a patriotic American who wanted to help the 99%, she would volunteer herself to be executed live on 'ON DEMAND' TV, with the proceeds being evenly distributed among us. It would be big $$$ too. It wouldn't be too hard to get $1000 per household to see this. I'd pay 5x that.

I read Atlas Shrugged all the way through for the first time when i was 13. I used to have portions of several of the long speeches memorized. I re-read it every few years. Never understood why people thought it was so daunting. Its three books in one cover. Read it like that.

These folks appear to allegedly be doing this all the time but because there is a loop hole in the law that makes them exempt from the same law that took down Raj, they are somehow exempt?
