Members of Ohio's largest teachers' union have agreed to a one-time, $54 dues increase to pay for the fight against Ohio's new collective bargaining law.
A spokeswoman for the Ohio Education Association says 111,000 active union members would pay the extra dollars under a proposal overwhelmingly approved Friday. School support staff would pay $25. Student and retired members were exempted.

If I had a gravy train, I'd be real pissed if someone started messing with it. That's the funny thing about socialism. Once the people have it, they're fine, but once it starts failing and their free shit gets taken away, they get PISSED.

Go into many of the old European houses and you'll find the same thing. But they have a viable excuse. Those houses were built before commercial electrification. Osama's "mansion" is a pig-stye.

Sen. Brown outlines bills to lower gas pricesOhio Senator Sherrod Brown has outlined two new bills aimed at lowering gas prices.
With the average price per gallon of gas in Ohio up more than $1.30 over the last year and 48 cents in the last month alone, Brown outlined a bill Monday aimed at ending the more than $4 billion in tax deductions, subsidies, and royalty relief to big oil companies each year.
Brown’s bill would end what he calls “wasteful taxpayer handouts” to big oil companies that are making record profits. The savings would be used to reduce the federal deficit.
Brown also announced support for legislation that would make it illegal for oil-producing nations to band together to manipulate the price of oil, natural gas, or any petroleum product, and give the U.S. Attorney General the authority to pursue legal action under the Sherman Antitrust Act.
Over the last decade, Brown says the nation’s five largest oil companies have taken home nearly $1 trillion in profits—including more than $30 billion in the first quarter of 2011 alone—and tens of billions in dollars in taxpayer subsidies.

Interesting theory I came across the weekendÂ…. What if bin Laden is still alive. No, not in the sense that Obama and his stooges lied totally about getting bin Laden. What if Panetta fooled the great chess master Obama and bin Laden was captured and air lifted out to a CIA prison in Eastern Europe. What if Obama authorized a mission to kill bin Laden but those orders were changed in route to the Spec Ops Team (Say by Panneta) and the orders that reached them was to capture bin Laden at all costs and not to kill him. After the mission was accomplished Presadense Obama was notified that we got bin Laden, but he is alive and we are secretly getting him out for interrogation. Oh, what about the body well maybe it was another poor Islamic smock that killed, wrapped in white cloth, given the BS funeral, and dumped into the Arabian Sea. What is Obama to do after he spiked the football? Tell the world he is still alive, Fire Panetta for not obeying his grand order, etc. This could explain all the different versions, CarneyÂ’s stupid answers, ObamaÂ’s total cluelessness and knowing not what to do, and no death photos. We could be water boarding are great leaderÂ’s hero right now in some Eastern European shithole prison and there is nothing Obama can do. WouldnÂ’t it nice ????

Well, you see, the extra taxes they pay will subsidize gasoline vouchers. So for every ten cents they jack onto gas prices, they pay the consumer ten cents back. And the bureaucrats who arrange this get $100 for their services. Then we balance it all on the back of a unicorn.

When I was a kid in the 50s I remember touring some of those old houses that were out in the country and long abandoned. You would find a few that electric lines running along the wall to an overhead light. But they were ran through glass insulators and the wires were tight (and parallel to the wall and the ceiling). The wires were those old cotton fiber insulated things.
But even those disappeared in the 30s and 40s in occupied houses.

I agree with that and would even go further, but they need to be careful with how they use this. If they're going to criticize AARP, they need to balance it by promoting ads that show seniors they don't need to fear Medicare reform. Though they do that in the email but the press isn't going to report the entire thing.

As for second hand smoke that is a real fraud up there with AGW. But what is funny about it is a proposed law I was reading about in one of the local papers that would ban smoking in the city parks. The "concern" was second hand smoke. They also added chewing tobacco and snuff to the ban.

A lot of people really hate Palin. Of course many of them are responding to the misinformation out there, but even after having the time to manage her public image (and that of her family to a lesser extent), it doesn't appear that she's made very much progress in winning people over.
And I'm not sure she's expanded her base of support among Republicans. I confess that I suspect I'm not the only one who liked her a lot as a VP candidate but who has lost some confidence in her since the 2008 election. I understand her decision to quit the governorship, but I don't think it made her more qualified to be POTUS to do so. I actually think it hurt her.

The wiring was just silly. The concrete was poured into plywood forms - which then had to be hand finished by a battalion of Indian laborers to get it close to smooth and get out the big wood splinters. The whole structures were poured concrete with very little steel; what steel was used wasn't coated and left out in salty air for weeks.
The finish work was very well done. The cabinetry, stone, tile work, stucco, etc. would have all been very expensive to do here. But all marred by the lack simple conduit for the electrical.

Yeah, that's another part of narrative that sounds a bit exaggerated. Supposedly he was essentially under a de facto house arrest. Given his extremely limited means to communicate with anybody, how effective could his participation in masterminding much of anything be? Does anybody have some insight about how the narrative does not allow for the guards the he was supposed to have to shoot him if he was threatened with capture? And isn't the fact that you've got walls being blown up, helicopters landing (which I assume still makes plenty of noise if you're close enough, even the quiet ones), and a helicopter being blown up in your back yard, kind of inconsistent with the idea of Bin Laden being surprised, and not having enough time to reach for a weapon? Especially with the version (the latest, I think) that says he was shot at, and missed, before they enetered his room. Don't get me wrong! I love every new version of the tale - the good guys always come out without a scratch, and the evil uber-villain always buys it at the end. I look forward to more "re-makes", over the weeks, months, and years! And sequels, of course!! I figure the "inaccuracies" are a complex combination of incompetence, lies and spin for political reasons, and lies for national security reasons (so the lies aren't all bad). But it's fun to find the holes in the story.

I suspect that this reaction is what causes some here, including myself, to hold some hope that Christie will run. He has demonstrated that he can (thus far) survive in the cauldron that awaits any Republican. Reagan managed to transcend the MFM and 'Ronnie Raygun'. Christie has managed to deal with union memebers on his feet and stuff loaded questions back down the throat of "journolists".
Palin may never convince a plurality to vote for her or to stay home and not vote for Obama. If so, then she is unelectable. If she, or any other candidate cannot or will not do what Christie does then they are unelectable.

I dunno what the level of promiscuity was back in ye olden days, but it's hard to imagine it came remotely close to the debauched state of our culture today. For one thing, the illegitimacy rate would have told the tale. Birth control wasn't exactly advanced, and abortion on demand was, as yet, unheard of.
As I've aged I've heard more of the family stories that count as "skeletons in the closet" and am under no illusions that my predecessors didn't like to "get busy." And that did not always happen within the holy bonds of matrimony - no matter what they might have publicly professed. That said, things had not reached today's level of shamelessness.

I would concede culture was vastly different before the advent of birth control and easy access welfare. So there where more virgins pre 1960s since the cost of sex with someone that may not be there to help support the possible child was much higher.

Dude, I'm not arguing for the restoration of temple prostitution, just that it existed. BTW, The Ancient Greek contributed major things to western civilization. For instance, the philosophy of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. Or literature like Homer's' Iliad and The Odyssey. Government styles like democracy were invented. History was recorded by Herodotus and Thucydides. Architecture like the Parthenon and sculpture of the perfect human body. Painting was also a big factor in Ancient Greece as well as mathematics. Elucid invented Geometry, Algebra and the Number Theory.

But isn't that what most of "research" is nowdays? Especially the type of research that many in our government make laws from. We wonder how this myth stays alive but all one has to do is follow the government money (grants).
If a researcher wants to keep that money rolling in, he's going to give the government what they want.

Oh, and how was this raid "gutsy" in a military sense? 'Cause a handful of guys might have bought it? Not to downplay the value of the lives of SEALS, but isn't practally every mission like that? This mission took place within the borders of a country that is nominally an ally. Theoretically, their nearby military bases should be looked upon as people who could have helped in a pinch.
"Gutsy" in a political sense? Well, I don't see how this has enough in common with Jimmah's botched raid that it would have been especially disastrous, politically. Hell, did "Black Hawk Down" hurt Clinton?
Or am I missing something?

Ken may not be right about America at large, but Kinsey was way beyond "not perfect." Those studies were gimicked to get that result, to validate the views held by Kinsey and his group. National Review had a great article on them a few years back - they were among the most invalid studies ever conducted on the subject of sex.

227 In fact, temple prostitution (both male and female) has been practiced for a long time. Made going to temple a lot more fun than sitting in a pew for an hour.
Yet those "fun" societies accomplished, let's see, infant sacrifice and not much else.
Meanwhile, the people sitting in the pew invented calculus, physics, steam power, electric power, nuclear power, vaccines, cars, planes, computers, and space travel.
Ken, all that is correct. However they still screwed around once in awhile.

Heck, I'll go one more obvious:
Bush made the same decision, in an unscripted moment, while standing on top of a pile of smoking rubble in NY in Sept. 2011 and made the announcement with a megaphone.
Following this announcement, Bush:
- developed and lead an alliance of numerous nations, obtained Congressional and UN consent, and launched operations that removed the Taliban from power in Afghanistan
- toppled, captured, tried, and hung Saddam Hussein (in his own country, by his own people)
- gained huge concessions and cooperation from Libya for the first time in decades
- forestalled numerous terrorist attacks before they could materialize (including LA), resulting in zero successful US terror attacks for more than 7 years.
- During this time, North Korea and Iran mumbled some, but did nothing
- unemployment was 7% after the worst attack on US soil in history, a stock market crash, and the beginning of the fall out from idiotic financial policies implemented under Clinton.
Compare and contrast Barry the Gutsy, who needed a 16 hour nap before giving an order to launch an operation that had been in the planning stages since at least February and approved for nearly 10 years.
Meanwhile:
- the only thing that has saved us from several domestic terrorist attacks in the past 2 1/2 years has been bombs failing to explode ("the system worked!")
- numerous mid-east countries are in the midst of revolts that this admin failed to predict or effectively deal with and have resulted in toppling bad but manageable dictators and installing Muslim radicals in positions of power
- N Korea has launched attacks on South Korea and both the Norks and Iran have made several hostile gestures toward the US and allies
- Libya duped the US and UK into freeing a terrorist, reverse all cooperative positions developed under Bush & launched attacks against it's citizens (Barry avoids doing anything for over a month and eventually follows France into launching a military operation without Congressional approval or an semblance of defined goals, objectives, rules of engagement, or solid idea of who is in charge or the operation)
- attacks have continuously escalated on Israel
- unemployment has remained at or above 9%, despite trillions of "investment", "Recovery Summer" 2010, and all the other backdoor crap
- our situation is Afghanistan is worse than ever
- Pakistan is pulling fast ones on us left and right
- Iraq has made no progress since Bush's successful transitional policies.
On the other hand, Barry won a Nobel Prize and Bush didn't.

This. Remember, the Left's social projects exist solely to destabilize Western capitalist civilization. All other side effects are coincidental.
(I suspect this is why some are reacting so strongly to Ken - he reminds them that participating in some "accepted" aspects of modern social behavior is tantamount to having voted for Teh Won).

All people have always been obsessed with sex. Sex is kind of crucial for survival. We like sex because biology tells us to like sex. The costs for engaging in it were higher then, is all.
And that's a retarded analogy. The circumstances were vastly different.

I assure you that our ancestors were similarly "obsessed" with sex. It's sort of a big deal with most people, and has been for a very long time. Although the use of the word "obsessed" is quite telling, and speaks volumes about you. My bet is that the vast majority of Americans have a healthy attitude toward sex, and that it rarely interferes with the other things that we do.
But don't fool yourself into thinking that sex can be sublimated. Do you know what happens when people sublimate their healthy and normal desire for sexual contact?
We get trolls like you posting weird shit on blogs.

Kucinich back to Washington
Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who is actively eyeing a House seat in Washington to run for next year, heads back to the state in two weeks.
Kucinich will headline a "Green Festival" event in Seattle on Sunday, May 22.
The diehard liberal and former presidential candidate has already met with local Democrats about the redistricting process and confirmed last week Ohio's new map won't leave him many options to run there again.
Ohio's loss is Washington's loss....

That would explain the rise of single parenting, cancer rates from oral sex, and the insistence on forcibly teaching "Heather has two mommies". Because the majority of Americans have a healthy attitude toward sex, which rarely interferes with the other things we do. Tell that to to every state and federal aid agency.
Most of what was posted above regarding history was drivel. Having said that, the notion that we have a "vast majority" possessing a healthy attitude is not supported in fact.

I was famous, bitches. I'd walk into the pub, find the hottest wench in the place, and whisper in her ear "Now there's a body I'd like to see in motion", and she'd be back at my place faster than an apple can fall from a tree. I'd keep her in motion all night long, if you know what I mean.
