— Ace Remember when the Iraqi who threw shoes at Bush was feted by the media as a "folk hero"? Partly this was understandable, as there were many in Iraq to whom he became a folk hero; but the media went one better and clearly signaled its allegiance to that point of view.
Well, now Rupert Murdoch is attacked, and Contessa Brewer
says that the attack "encapsulates" what many in Britain are feeling right now.
Question: Should such an attack befall one of their fave raves, can we expect a similar "to some, he's considered a hero" treatment for the attacker?
Funny, I don't remember Joe Wilson getting the Hero Edit for saying "You lie." I seem to remember that being an awful, racist breach.

Indeed. Rupert Murdoch is not particularly conservative- as many of the uber-ultra-mega rich are not. He is, nevertheless, a capitalist who saw an unfilled niche in an otherwise saturated market.

I have no doubt that if someone had gone after Murdoch with a real weapon, the networks would be orgasmic in their "Breaking News!!!!eleventy!!!!" coverage.
Of course it's different if a certain newspaper commits treason by publishing stolen national secrets or a TV network falsifies "evidence" to attack the Eeeeevil Boosh or anyone they disagree with.
Scandals associated with Osama Obama? Never heard of 'em.
I think the reaction to Murdoch's troubles is less political than a massive case of envy that he built a successful media operation without getting gubmint handouts or committing treason.

Remember all the "praise" Ace once heaped on C*ntessa:
As I have noted with footnotes and authoritative citations previously, Contessa Brewer is a dirty, lying, pus-mouthed whore.
A cheap, sore-riddled nasty bit of gutterscrunge who'll rent you her mouth for the change in your pocket.
A tawdry wallow-trollop oozing with syphilitic fester who raises her filthy skirts at the scent of crack-smoke.
A disease-dripping pincushion, the media's vile mattress of last resort, a pathogen in garish vinyl high heels, a loose-toothed croup-breathed nightcrawler reeking of bathtub gin, fungicide, and the genetic stink of human desperation.
A skanky bit of mung-trash sloughing off diseased skin like a leprous snake. (A leprous snake who whores out her verminous cloaca for two bits a pop, I mean.)
This sad clown of a whore, oozing with foul custard and slack and sloppy as an over-used trash bag, is too stupid to know how to lie judiciously, and so lies promiscuously and wantonly, demonstrating all the discretion she once showed in junior high when her nickname was "Automatic" Brewer.
By the way: No, I don't think Contessa Brewer really "did" this. She's too stupid. She doesn't have that kind of responsibility. Her job is to wear a wonderbra, eat rice pudding with a "safety spoon," blow the line producer, and read the phonetically-spelled questions someone else writes for her.
/I freaking love this screed btw, Ace.
Well done, sir!

Posted by: Mjim at July 19, 2011 04:16 PM (rN9Na)
I highly doubt that. The News of the World was more a tabloid than a serious news publication. They didn't call it News of the Screws for nothing. And it was the most widely read publication in Europe; the competition would have been with the "real" news outlets trying to compete with NotW.
The only victims who I feel any sympathy for are the family of the young girl who was kidnapped and whose phone a private investigator working for NotW allegedly hacked while she was still missing but before she was found dead, giving her family false hope that she might still be alive. Hacking into the phones of celebrities is one thing, though still despicable and underhanded. But hacking into the phones of young girls who may or may not be victims of extreme violence is another thing entirely.
But the editor at the time - Rebekah Brooks - has resigned, and was just arrested. As far as I'm concerned, justice has been done already. These Murdoch trials are no better than the D.C. hearings that forced the CEO of Toyota to come grovel before Congress for forgiveness.

60 Minutes shows the fake-but-accurate documents from Dan Rather. Result: 60 Minutes stays on the air and CBS news is still going.
Food Lion awarded $5.5 million from ABC News based on two reporters (with help from the union, BTW) getting false credentials to work at the store.
Stephen Glass -- New Republic. Jayson Blair -- New York times. On and on and on. These little subsidiaries continue on, let alone the media entities themselves.
But somehow, Rupert Murdoch is supposed to be personally involved in the inner workings of NotW, even though the newspaper is gone and the person who was in charge of the paper is fired.
It's abundantly clear that Obama should have known more about Operation Fast and Furious than Murdoch could ever have known about what happened at NotW.
And Brewer...well, she should look up "Two Minutes' Hate" because she's part of it.
Posted by: AmishDude at July 19, 2011 12:45 PM (T0NGe)
Murdoch is an equal opportunity whore.
He can't limit the extent of damage from bribed leaks to simply The Sun's publications, but through all of Murdoch's papers.
The scandal resides in the willingness of government officials in positions of responsibility to sell secrets. And that would include state secrets; not just the CYA "national security" sort.
A lot of government employees should be fired, "creating" new/used jobs for the unemployed...as if.
