ALCS Thread
— Dave in Texas

We need a new thread anyhow.

Also, RANGERS.

9-2, bottom of the 3rd, 2 outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Somebody asked me who I wanted the Rangers to face in the World Series, if we make it. I said "the Astros".

Or the Mets. I'd be good with either.

Bush is there.

He was a loust President because his knowledge of ice cream sucked. It really was atrocious.

If he would have only taken some time to study ice cream markets and flavorings and the science behind ice cream...he wouldn't have sucked so bad...

Actually, the Bush family is the biggest reason I want the Rangers to goto the WS. I love seeing HW and W throwing out ceremonial pitches, especially when they are both on the mound (like a couple years ago).

I still tear up when I watch the replay of W throwing out the first pitch after 9/11.

Also, go Cardinals.

So let's total things up:

"W" rides mountain bikes, somtimes with Lance Armstrong.

Doesn't where "mom" jeans.

Flew an F102 Delta Dart in the Texas ANG. Not fake, just accurate.

Graduated from Yale, has an MBA from Harvard and people actually remember when he was there (like his roomate at Yale, George Pataki).

Ran an oil company (not very well), and managed the Texas Rangers for a while (better). Was elected two terms as Governor of Texas (actually did something, and people remember him).

BHO:

Wears "mom" jeans.

Can't throw a pitch over the plate.

Plays basketball, and got popped in the mouth in a pickup game

When to Occidental and Columbia to get his BA- and no one seems to remember him.

Went to Harvard to get his LLD, President of the Law Review, and wrote nothing.

Allegedly wrote two books, one of which is suspected of being ghost written by Bill Ayers.

Was a State Senator for two terms, and originated very little legislation, then was elected to the Senate, and after two years was running for President about full time.

*****

So which one is stupid and a fake?

I think their former incompetent GM (Jim Hendry) had a lot more to do with that then paying off any umpires.

Rumor has it that Theo Epstein is going to resign as GM of the Red Sox and will be hired as the GM of the Cubs.  That makes all the other teams in the NL Central worried - the wealthiest team in the division with a GM that knows his job.

43 #38 Two Wisconsin teams? Oh, I thought the Packers were in Canada somewhere. Obviously the Brewers should win this series, but they won't. You can thank Bud Selig for that. He wants to add ANOTHER round of playoffs next year, if possible. Just what tired pitchers need, and the 162 game schedule becomes that much less meaningful. Hard to imagine him doing more harm to the game if he tried.

Re Theo Epstein and the Cubs GM role:  As a denizen of Red Sox Nation, I can empathize with the Cub fans' extended suffering and their hopes attached to recruitment of the Fenway front-office wunderkind.

But he's wildly overrated -- don't pin your hopes too strongly on his bony shoulders.

Check out Steven Syre's dispassionate, fact-heavy, and convincing essay "Theo is no genius" (www.globe.com) for confirmation of this assessment.

52 Dave, I think Larussa knows how to play AL baseball. Putting Berkman in the DH role will only enhance his team's already potent offense, which has no easy outs in its lineup.

Posted by: BurtTC at October 15, 2011 06:25 PM (Gc/Qi)

53 Well, at least Tigers fans have six innings to accept reality and come to terms with their team's fate. Whereas we Phillies fans went down to the very last out still thinking they might pull it out somehow. (The game isn't over, though, and the Tigers theoretically could come back and win it. Which is what makes baseball the best sport of all.)

I just got home from the game at the ballpark in Arlington... a mere mile from my house... what a great time!  Rangers to the World Series!   What a great series with Detroit.  They played hard, but we prevailed.   Here's to the next level.  Damn... what a great night in north Texas!

59 Congrats to the Rangers. They are putting lie to the old adage that pitching wins championships....hey, they have some decent pitchers, but they are just bludgeoning their way to the World Series.  I've always had much respect for Nolan Ryan....and having W around to piss off any sports-oriented libtards is just gravy.

I'm a bitter Phillies fan, and I'm hoping that the Brew Crew can come back and end this run by St. Louis, but if not, Rangers all the way.

Part of me is rooting against the Cardinals out of spite, but another part is hoping they'll go on to win the World Series. That way we can say, "At least we were beaten by the best."

Congrats to the Rangers - glad to see them (and not the Yankees) in the WS.  Hopefully W will get to throw one of his first strikes at a game.

It would be great for the Cubbies to end their streak but Epstein is overrated so I'm not sure he'll get it done

63 #55 - Did you read the article at ESPN (I think) which compared the last inning of the Rays-Yanks game (where the Rays went from losing to winning) side by side with the Boston-Baltimore game (where the Sox went from winning to losing)? Good article showing how anything can change in baseball.
