An Open Letter to my MSM-enabling Friends [krakatoa]
— Open Blogger

To all who still watch, listen or read the MSM and insist there is no bias,

Who continue to support them via donating to "Public" broadcasting or purchasing subscriptions,

Who fatuously spout the vile rhetoric the MSM and their ideological brethren feeds you in regards to,

The Tea Party
Sarah Palin
The 2nd Amendment
The Constitution & Bill of Rights in general
Illegal Immigration
Racism in America
Islam as a "Religion of Peace" vis-a-vis the supposed creeping fundamentalism of Christianity and the various insidious plots of "the Jews"
The need to reign in the "heated rhetoric" of just the Right side of the political spectrum
The narrowly targeted definition of "heated rhetoric" or "hate speech"
Every atrocity, every natural disaster, every drought or snowstorm an effect of the evil machinations of Conservatives such as I...

With all due respect, open your damned eyes...!

... and try reading for comprehension.

Do you not note the abject hypocrisy in calling for patience anytime an open Islamist goes on jihad pending "all the facts" which invariably lead to the self-serving and contorted conclusions that they were driven to murder by the intolerance of people like, um, me?

I am really getting tired of being called the bad guy. Every single bad outcome in this world has its blame laid at my feet, and while it is flattering to be considered so very nearly omnipotent, it is getting more than a little old and remains as far from the truth as it ever was.

Let me put you some frick'n knowledge here: All sorts of people engaged in all sorts of ideologies do all manner of horrible things, and they do them for a wide variety of reasons, most bad and even occasionally some good.

Pretending that you can compartmentalize all the woes in the world into one neat box of causation called "Republican/Conservative/Colonialist White Male bigotry" gives you the illusion of the power to easily deal with those problems.

It is a coping mechanism, one that almost everyone uses at one time or another when faced with a problem that seems beyond our ability to solve within our preferred idea of how the world works, and one that usually ends badly when the illusions of control are finally shattered. How badly depends on how invested one has become in the utilization of this mechanism.

Bluntly, the more you enable those who demonize roughly 50% of the country while ignoring the reality of the various woes we are blamed for, the further you paint yourselves into an ideological corner wherein the only solution you leave yourselves will be to agree to violently punish those who don't think like the gatekeepers of your information.

And if that happens, my friends, you will find many reasons to regret your decision to abdicate your thought & judgment to those in the media, in academia, and in politics who, in the pursuit of power, never let a crisis go to waste*. Assuming of course, that you survive the broader violence you will have bred in the vain attempt to deal with the real issues of the world in ways that don't offend your tender sensibilities.

It is your duty to speak out. Your duty to demand a fealty to truth, rather than to the fanciful outcome of "fairness" at all costs.

You are good people. You are my friends & family. We break bread, we live and love, we celebrate and we mourn together. If I am not so evil a person to be a part of your daily life, how is it my ideological cohort must be?

I understand that your view of the world gives you comfort. I am asking you to give up some of that comfort, and examine just what it is that the MSM and their ideological soul-mates demand of you.

This latest media frenzy is madness, and if we do not get serious about the many issues facing our country & the world at large, there will surely be hell to pay.

Is this a threat?

Not hardly.

It is a historical certainty.

6 There is only one way to cripple the MFM - money. Stop subscribing to their channels, stop visiting their websites, loudly boycott them and their sponsors. Do not buy products advertised during their programs and let the sponsors know why you refuse to buy their products. When the money starts drying up, the PTB at the major media outlets will start paying attention. We, as consumers, have the power to do this. If we only make the effort.

7 Ross Douthat actually has a pretty good article in the NY times about not blaming anyone for the actions of crazy people... then of course you read the comments and people are mentally ill about Sarah Palin being a murderer and needing to be charged. If we are on the defensive about this it worries me, the good in me wants to say this man was just crazy lets all recognize that but the realist in me realizes the far left is going to try to use this to score political points. We should be out there reminding the people that political violence is a time honored tradition on the left while its a exception for those of us on the right.

The MFM is losing money now -- the government will prop it up, and that will make the MFM even more their lap dogs than they are now.

Already there are congressmen calling for legislature to ban "inciteful language" (notice the very broadbrush usage -- so it will mean whatever someone in power wants it to mean), a ban on guns, and to get more "security" on the internet.

All of this for our own good.  The only thing to do is protest this -- and take the risk (and there will be one I'm afraid).

12 The Left will play anything and everything for political gain. Since they believe that pining violence on the right will help them, they will not stop. There is only one real virtue to the Left, and it is gaining more power - so appealing to their better selves will not work.

14 krakatoa, good job.

"Fairness at all costs" like blaming the right wing as the most likely radical culprit...aced. This past decade's violent radicals keep expressing Leftist sentiments in the Bill Ayers tradition. Yet DHS Napolitano still has not retracted her opposite game smear on the "radical" conservative Americans who uphold rule of law and Constitutional Governance, instead piling on further each opportunity to distract the public.

"We could have had 31 more people shot," AZ Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said. -- as if disappointed it weren't worse? He left the crime scene 3 hours unsecured while notifying Obama who was deciding to send FBI Chief Mueller to oversee the corrupted scene, corrupted evidence and investigation. Way to go, authoritarian brown nose law enforcement that refuses to enforce the law, preferring policy that subjugates America and enables the Mexican drug cartels in and surrounding Tucson.

Hats off to the citizens who responded immediately to stop the murderous lunatic.

And again, RIP for those fallen and their families, with speedy recovery wishes for those injured.

Keep a level head, and demand the record intact, demand accountability, no revisionism for political convenience.

16 Oh, and to follow up, that is why violent communists, Enviro-nuts, and the like will still be blamed on the right.

Most political people on both sides know it is BS, but the left isn't trying to convince people who follow politics closely - such are either part of the vanguard party or the enemy - they are trying to reach the people who specifically do not follow politics more then the occasional headline or tuning into the alphabets.

If anyone is interested, just click on to my name and it will take you to my blog. On there, I have a YouTube video of a bunch of 9/11 Truthers protesting Gabrielle Giffords back in 2008. The point being, these loons would have been far more likely to influence Loughner than Sarah Palin or any other conservative or the Tea Party. Yet, you will wait in vain for the MSM or any of the usual leftist loons to talk about it, or any of the other leftists who criticized Giffords for not being progressive enough to suit them through the years.

The people on this video were royally pissed at Giffords for her support of the Iraq War funding, and because she refused to support Dennis Kucinich's efforts to impeach Bush and Cheney.

28 Mug me in an alley at gunpoint, or use the tax code to take my shit: Stealing is stealing. Good people do not steal.

Actually, I would modify that a little bit.

We've got a government-media-education complex that both distracts people from where tax dollars come from, and convinces them that to the extent they come from real people it is bad, evil people who have it coming.

Consider the voter who thought Obama would be giving her money from "his stash". So sometimes good, though easily misled, people steal because the government has made it a very easy sin.

15 We have to stop that -- this is where we get ahold of those Republican representatives and senators and remind them of why they got voted in; remind them of that "piece of paper" they read just a few days ago; remind them that just as they were voted in, they can be voted out if they do not ensure the blessings of liberty and provide for the common good (and turning this country into a socialist/fascist mess will not provide for the common good as history has proven out).

Heck, remind what few remaining "blue dogs" (if there are any) too.

51 If we are on the defensive about this it worries me, the good in me wants to say this man was just crazy lets all recognize that but the realist in me realizes the far left is going to try to use this to score political points.

I don't think we are on the defensive, and that's why I feel oddly good about what I have read about the media's behavior during this fiasco.  Good because the hypocrisy is so palpable that even the low information types will be hard put to miss it.  Yes, the lefties will continue to spout the line, but only the delusional can still believe it.  I am optimistic that bit by bit, we are seeing liberalism's edifice crumble.  There will be steady erosion of the base, followed by a catastrophic failure, when even the most committed will know that the jig is up.  We don't know when it will happen, so we must keep up the pressure, but it will happen.

The left knows it.  That's why they actual, sitting Congressmen would even contemplate something so patently unconstitional as a bill calling for a ban on language that "could be perceived as inciting violence".  This is about as close to Stalinist language as I can imagine.  It's what you do when you are out of options, and the left now is.

18-1 You're right. Once a mind is given to authoritarianism and thrives on Alinsky methodology, where is that mind's "better nature"? The same problematic PC application of incorrectly applied "tolerance" is trying to convert the hearts and minds of the enemy resulting in Islamic democratic mob rule (ex: Iraq).

Matthew 7:6, above and beyond America's "better nature" desire to lead another to water as a good Samaritan would, what to anticipate from the rabidly dogmatic. Even Boy Scouts know to "Be Prepared". But PC dictates vulnerability.

We keep hearing the same messaging propaganda from the Left regardless of fact, regardless of record. Leftists usurp crises as opportunists revising and fabricating whole cloth record. Repeat a lie enough, ignore the truth, and "make" a corrupted record...old hat long ago.

Speaking of which, what choice "responsible" words has McCain's camp released alongside Kyl?

For anyone who thinks the MSM went all-in on Obama in '08, hold onto your seats because you ain't seen nothing yet!   The MSM know that the election in '12 is for all the marbles, even if most of the rest of the country doesn't comprehend that yet.  I'm pretty sure the Tea Party types do.  If Obama is reelected, then it is game over.  The progressives have finally reached the 51% solution, Obamacare will NEVER be repealed, and this country is, well, f*cked.  It will be over except for the waiting.  The great experiment called The United States of America will be headed for the dustbin of history.
That is why you are seeing this MSM frenzy to demonize, once again, Palin specifically, and by association, all things Tea Party, conservative, and Republican. Obama is in the dumpster poll-numbers wise, so, the effort to rehabilitate him and his numbers started the day after the '10 elections.  The MSM know that they only have 2 years to complete the turnaround and they will pull out all stops, and use every situation to pound the narrative that those opposing Obama are opposing reason, decency, mom and apple pie.  The conduct of the MSM between now and the elections in '12 will make their conduct in '08 look quaint.

She responded, in part, "I hate violence.  I hate war.  Our children will not have peace if politicos just capitalize on this... thanks for all you do to send the message of peace and love, and God as the answer."

70 In a few minutes, Osama Obama will "lead the nation in a moment of silence."

That's nice of him. Very Presidential. It's a major sacrifice, too. If there's anyone who would have difficulty keeping silent for even 10 seconds, it's the Mohammedan Mouthpiece.

Did he do that when a deranged Muzzie killed Americans at Fort Hood? Nope, he told us all not to rush to judgment on Hassan. Otherwise, he was too busy giving "shout-outs" to notice.

The Traitor-in-Chief is doing a fine job as the nation's Hypocrite-in-Chief, too.

This media bias issue is so simple. Old media knows it's demographics so they pander to tose that buy their stuff. Their business model is a failure leaving only the diehards as customers. Think about it, if you were an employee of one of these media companies and your livlihood depended on a certain ideology buying your stories and meme's to stay employed, what would you do? The answer is obvious, find another job, but maybe that has already happened, leaving only the koolaid crowd that is in denial over their failed or failing business model.

It's only a matter of time, this problem with our media is going to fix itself, unless the government intervenes. Hence, their support for Obama and the left.

There are two things taxpayers can do. One, do not financially support these entities and two, scream like crazy when the government proposes a bailout for ANY media outlet.

Patience people.

Posted by: LC LaWedgie at January 10, 2011 06:52 AM (kb0wl)

73 Agreed. Money is the only way to hurt them. You will probably have to suffer some pain yourself by giving up something you enjoy, of course. I try not to pay for any left-wing media. I try not go to any left-wing site and give them advertising money.  I'm not perfect. And sometimes they offer something so enticing I end up clicking/watching (there's a reason HuffPost offers celebrity gossip and bikini pics alongside their vile, screaming leftism.)

When Olbermann was on the NBC NFL show I refused to watch -- and I told NBC, politely, that I cannot watch their show while it features a spittle-flecked hate-monger like Olbermann who daily insults me, my family, and most of my friends.

I like watching the NFL, so there was some modicum of sacrifice.

The NYT still does put out some good pieces on business and international news. But I avoid it because I refuse to subsidize Krugman and the vile leftism the NYT routinely employs on their front page and opinion pages. NPR does some good radio pieces, but they so casually spew hate towards the right that I refuse to tune my radio to it. I grew up listening to NPR, so that was a hard habit to break.

I'm not perfect about this and this sacrifice isn't some great sacrifice on my part. It means I miss out on the latest George Clooney movie. He's a good actor, but a left-wing prick through-and-through.  I enjoyed Oceans 11, but that was before I knew what leftist asshole he was. Same with Matt Damon and the Bourne movies.

Now there are reasonable left-wing people and organizations who don't traffic in vile hatred of me and mine. I will, for example, read reports out of the Brookings Institution. Brookings is left-wing, but is usually dispassionate enough to make a calm, reasonable case for their point of view with data, logic, and reasoning and minimal invective.

In my mind there is a difference between leftist and left-wing. But once I believe an organization or individual cares more about demonizing me then making an evidence and reason based argument, then I just tune them out.

I'm torn about paying for cable TV - which I do. I'm glad to see money go to FoxNews, but I realize most of the entertainment industry is left-wing, so I'm probably subsidizing more left-wingers than right-winger by a large margin.

Remember most channels on your cable box get a  cut of your monthly cable bill. So, for example, if you have cable you are paying something (like 50 cents) to MSNBC and CNN even if you don't watch. Of course liberals who  have cable are paying FNC, so it works both ways.

85 Believe me, the Tucson shooting is the most joyous event for Liberals everywhere since the election of Obama.  "Communist Manifesto" fan and Daily Kos poster Laughner must be  their secret hero.   Look at what he has accomplished for the Progressive/Liberal/(whateverthebloodyhellthey'recalingthemselvesthisweek cause: (1) he has sidelined a "moderate" Democrat, one who, reportedly, blasphemously voted against Pelosi as speaker;  (2) he has given them the opportunity to accuse Sarah Palin of orchestrating the whole thing, and to allow them to righteously demand she quit public life; and (3) most importantly -- he has liquidated a white male conservative Federal judge, thus giving Obama an opportunity to nominate yet another commie who will twist the Constitution to the Party Line of the hour.

The immediate, joyous piling on by the whole smelly contingent of them, from Obama on down, shows that that, whatever their accusations, Hate Speech is their specialty, and few conservatives can hope to match their skill.

Fear can sway the blustering "moderate," "bipartisan," "reasonable," "centrist" politicians who don't care to officially honor distinctions between the US Constitutional Republic (propagandized as if "radical fringe") and the PC Federal Authoritarian State that promises "security" by delivering universal subjugation.

106 Nine years ago I threw out my last television.  Never looked back.  Too many people in this nation are addicted, though.  Too many people, upon awakening in the morning, turn on their TVs to break the awful silence, and too many people do the same as soon as they walk in the door after work.  The television is the true "American idol."

Throw it away.  Cut the cable and just play games on it.  No more Hollywood films.  I mean, even without both of those, don't we already get enough Lib propaganda from every other direction as it is?  Even the backs of cereal boxes, the milk cartons your kids get at school, the godawful indoctrination at the schools themselves, the pop-stars, the FM radio talkers, billboards,  and much, much more?  You can do without TV and movies.  Those "hobbies" that most people can't seem to do without -- even those on the right, who KNOW -- are our nation's suicide.  TV and movies are hobbies like crack and heroin are hobbies.

132 That dipshit sheriff is the one dangling thread that can unravel the narrative into a giant shitstorm for the MFM. Loughner is on that sheriff's head. It was bad enough that Cho's mental illness was ignored by the system based on lefty notions of siding with anything twisted or abnormal, but Loughner was local law enforcement's problem before he committed this heinous crime. Did Loughner get a pass because of his mother's position with county government? If so, then what in the hell was Loughner trying to accomplish with his smokescreen? Was he trying to make civilization collapse? That sheriff is a lefty. That sheriff is very old. I bet that crooked geezer fuck was making a play at seeing it all burn in his deepest Ayersian fantasy rather than face what he will face when the investigation leads where it will lead.

That was the Arizona sourced news at the 3 hour mark after the shooting spree. The Sheriff "secured" the sight 3 hours after the fact at which point no ammo or shells were found. And by that point, Obama was announcing that he'd ordered the FBI Chief Mueller en route to oversee the investigation (that the Sheriff so horribly officially botched).

btw, The Federal Public Defender's Office in Phoenix has recommended that San Diego attorney Judy Clarke take Loughner's case.
Pro bono? Or taxpayer funded high-powered defense attorney who represented the "Unabomber," the Atlanta Olympics bomber and Susan Smith, the South Carolina woman who drowned her two children by driving her car into a lake.

170 btw, this raises another issue.  50 years ago, someone like Loughner would have been in an institution.  But the left knew better, and decided such people should be out on the street.  Now we are overrun with beggars and people defecating on sidewalks, and one of them periodically snaps and shoots up the place.  This helps neither society nor the mentally ill.  The media, were they doing their job, would make the left own this problem, but of course, nobody is held to account.  Well, except for the evil Tea Partiers, who don't care about the homeless.

Yes. Note well the Sheriff's consistency, erring on the side of enabling murder and mayhem. His enabling of the Mexican Drug Cartel fortresses outside town and encouraging illegal border traffic is long established record. Now he failed to attempt preventive measures on Giffords behalf. He failed at the moment to be at Giffords side to protect her, knowing full well that the murderer threatened her already on many occasions. And he failed to secure the scene ASAP, for three hours after the shooting, even while the White House communicated that Obama ordered FBI Chief Mueller to the scene. Pathetic and completely unacceptable.

Libtards come out and start screeching about right-wing hate speech, right-wing bigotry, etc., etc., and then immediately reaching into their sack of blackness and drawing out legislation to take away more of the citizens' freedoms "for their safety"... and lefty power over the citizens.

Remember, evolution happens on living things. It is not an explanation for the generation of life. Posted by: eman at January 10, 2011 11:28 AM (0aJSF) Go watch Expelled with Ben Stein. Dawkins just lays it out there. Aliens created life on the planet. And you are correct evolution does not explain the origins of life. Yet that doesn't stop evolutionary theorists like Dawkins and Darwin from claiming it does.

200 Sheriff Dupnick talked about how the Arizona legislature was considering allowing college profs and students to be armed and how bad that was.

When the Virginia Tech shooting occurred my father - who went to college in Montana in the 1940's said: "That never would have happened when I was in school; everyone had deer rifles in their dorm rooms, somebody would have shot back."

School teachers and students in Arizona used to carry guns, until people like Sheriff Dupnick took them away from them. The one place a murderer never has to worry about somebody shooting back is a liberal "gun free zone" since the law abiding people are guaranteed to be disarmed .

Liberals - making the world safer for psychopaths every day.

172 btw, this raises another issue.

The issue with homeless is multi-level.  They have to commit a crime to be arrested and show signs of mental illness to be admitted.  Sometimes it's not that clear.   Most of our admits who are long term homeless have poly-dx-- MR/DD, substance abuse, mental illness and of course personality disorders.

Most of them are pretty helpless and not dangerous.  Most of them are extremely pitiful and make you grateful for every little thing you  have.  The new mandates from the state are that they can't be released back into a shelter or on the street (at one time, we actually had to do that after they were on their meds and stable--- with the attitude of "Well, now they're 'fixed' they can get their lives together").    The problem is that they have no family or have burnt their bridges with the family that is left.

Plus there is a shortage of group homes, 'works' homes, assisted living units, nursing home beds (yes, some of them are THAT demented) etc that they can be placed in.... so it's bottle necking.    So the now that there is a demand, the supply side is kicking in.

As for Jared, he should have been committed and treated long ago.  He made verbal threats of harm towards others.... in this state, a quck ticket to admissions.   He was clearly delusional, paranoid, and worst of all, aggressively acting out his thoughts.  Someone dropped the ball or the AZ is lax about this.

204 As may have already been pointed out, there is another solution to all of this- hit the networks where it hurts.

Contact their advertisers and say you will not buy their product until they stop advertising on X.  Advertisers will indeed listen to these sort of things, and if a boycott happens, well, that will make the networks very unhappy.

Because television especially does not exist to carry programming. It exists to sell advertising, and the programming is what they use to fill up the time between ads.

205 I would love to see the Greene family ban the media and politicians from the funeral. Anyone who would politicize their grief has no business being there--none. It would cool to see the jug-eared jackass refused admission.

172 up above has it.  For this and Virginia Tech the media should be hosting a public debate over the closing of mental hospitals and making it more difficult for someone to get committed (they pretty much have to get them to volunteer).

In essence, we closed down a bunch of hospitals that were more warehouse than hospital.  The 'stock' in those warehouses are now amongst us.  Lots of the previously warehoused folks don't bother anyone and live productive lives.  Others are 'street crazies' and others are somewhere in between.  Every so often one of these folks that would have previously been warehoused kills.  So we trade as a society some security so that those with most mental illnesses have the chance to live productive lives.

I believe we chose right.  When I see a homeless person talking to himself I feel bad for his circumstances but I would not want to see him in some institution, stacked up like cord wood.  Living on the streets with a mental illness is no picnic but better than being throwin into the equivalent of jail.

Is it me or has the media gotten much more blatantly bias the last 2-3 years.  I actually thought the media coverage for both Bush elections were very fair. Yes, there was Dan Rather and the New York Times, but otherwise I can't recall any truely unfair coverage in either election. I am sure there was some, but I can't remember it, so how bad could it have been. But something began happening after Hurricane Katrina. That in combination with the Iraq war going south changed the coverage in media. Bush-Cheney could do no right. However, it was still gradual and mostly about the administration.

Then came the scandals in the Republican side of congress in 2006 and the media coverage and results that followed and it was like the media had an epiphany sometime between the 2006 elections and 2008. Stop worrying about truth and start propagandizing. I remember  Bob Schieffer in a television interview basically admit they were going to do "liberal" coverage and saying if you didn't like it you could find conservative coverage elswhere. I was shocked at the admission.

First they protected and propped up Obama.  Then came the moment on the morning of September 1st 2008, when the entire media came out of the closet and stopped caring whether people even noticed if they were bias or not. That was when, even though a major hurricane was hitting the American coast line, they ALL had to instead talk about what a bad mother Sarah Palin was. And ever since, they haven't cared about anything accept pushing their agenda. When I say they, I mean everything from Good Morning America to Entertainment Tonight. From the nightly comedy talk shows to network news coverage. From news magazines to news papers. ALL.

The mainstream media has become an overt propaganda machine. How any conservative would ever even go to journalism school is beyond me. Its hopeless. Journalism used to be the fourth branch of government. A watch dog of the powerful. Now it is simply a guard dog of the liberal-socialist agenda and a lap dog to Obama. Its voluntary Pravda. The coverage of this tradegy is just another example of whats going on in the media. Journalism has died.

I don't hate President Obama. Nor do I hate Nancy Pelosi or any other Democrat. They are simply politicians doing what they can to push their agenda. In some ways, thats their job. However, I despise most in the media. Even likable people like Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon. And they are the least of the night time propagandists.

All of this coming from someone who watched Hardball with Chris Mathews religiously for 15 years and thought he was fair up until the last few years.

211 Hey, conservatives are just the new Jews as far as the left is concerned.  Blame 'em for everything.

212 Two easy ways you can tell if a news media is liberal or neutral in reporting stories:

(1)  If a politician is accused or charged with a crime and they tell you right off it is a republican.  If it is a democrat they don't mention it, or it is mentioned at the end of the story.

(2)  If they call the USA a democracy.  If they called it the republic that it is, that would remind us of republicans, and they don't want that, so they call it a democracy to remind us of democrats.

If you want to help the cause of freedom, call the USA the republic that it is and ask the propaganda media to do the same.  I was at a Tea Party protest in Washington DC one time and talked with a teenage boy.  I told him that the USA was not a democracy, it is a republic.  He looked at me and asked, "What's a republic?"

I wrote to many propaganda media and asked them why they call the USA a democracy and haven't gotten an answer from any of them.  Try it yourself with your local radio and TV stations and see if you get an answer.
