Are Obama's Fundraisers A Form of Ego-Rejuvenating Therapy?
— Ace

Jim Geraghty wonders if there's more to this than money.

Sure, the money.

But given that Obama no longer has the adoring crowds, is he doing so many fundraisers because he knows that if he charges people $38,500 to be in the room with him, he's guaranteed some of that old hero worship and ass-kissing?

And even though Obama just instructed Congress that they must set themselves to their duties with a renewed sense of "urgency," for Obama, it's vacation time again.

No one would begrudge...

Press secretary Jay Carney said he doubts the American people would begrudge the president some time off with his family, even in the midst of an economic downturn -- and besides, it is likely to be in part a working vacation.

"There's no such thing as a presidential vacation," Carney said. "The presidency travels with you."

I remember Bush saying that, and the media insisting he was a damned liar.
He's going to liberal Nirvana, aka Martha's Vinyard, again. Speaking of finding a friendly crowd for ego-replenishment.

...

Like his predecessors -- and as with his Martha's Vineyard vacations of the past two Augusts -- Obama will continue to hold meetings and be in communication with aides on both domestic and foreign issues.

That is particularly true of things like jobs.

"The president is focused every day on the economy," Carney said.

Jobs, and his backswing.

1 No matter how bad the day has been – say, a 634-point drop in the stock market, ominous polls – there’s always a well-heeled, well-dressed crowd greeting him with cheers and smiles, eager to tell him what a great job he’s doing. No matter how bad things get in the real world outside the doors, beyond the security guards, metal detectors and velvet ropes, inside those fundraisers, to Obama it is always a great day BINGO.

8 I'm thinking that he is sucking up for every dime not already nailed down because he knows he'll need it to get re-elected.

Besides that, fundraising is about the only thing he's relatively competent at.  Granted, it gets a LOT easier when you turn off all the safeguards on your website to prevent overseas donations and over-donations from specific SSNs.

My elderly mom, who comes by her being a democrat honestly (her folks were farmers during the [first] Great Depression and hero-worshipped FDR), was talking to me last night on the phone, and when I was bitching about the God King going on another vacation, said "Well, Bush did it too." I noted that Bush went to his own home or to Camp David, whereas Michelle Antoinette took her posse to Spain and the Obamas vacation in Hawaii and Martha's Vineyard, not in their posh Chicago mansion. I also pointed out the huge amount of golfing and slacking off Obama's doing. The bloom's definitely off the rose, but God, I'm so tired of really nice, good people like my mom giving the God King a break.

I keep going back in my mind to election night 2008. Mom called, and caught me crying in front of the tv. She was genuinely shocked-- "Oh, it won't be that bad." It's so, so much worse than what I was weeping about 3 years ago...and it's not over yet.

77 (Obama) knows he won't be held accountable. I'm not apocalyptic; I don't believe in the melodrama some concoct. Nevertheless, this is a dangerously salient point. Dick knows she will never, ever, EVER be held responsible for any damage she does in office. So, don't expect her to show restraint in her actions. If there is something so phenomenally stupid she could do as President that 95% of the rest of us wouldn't dream of doing it, don't imagine that potential blame will prevent her.

82:  He actually said that ?  And I've got to believe he thinks the same thing on the economy, energy policy, and everything else.

Note to the Left - this is why "intellectual" isn't necessarily a good quality in a President. The "intellectual's" ego won't let them pick subordinates who are more competent than you.  Coupled with the temptation to micro-manage because you are smarter than your subordinates, this leads to the incompetent compost-heap of policies we see before us today.
