— DrewM Ron Paul!
"It's certainly crossed my mind," Paul told The Ballot Box of a potential run for Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's (R-Texas) Senate seat next year.New numbers out Wednesday from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling found Paul was second only to Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst (R) among Texas Republicans asked who they want to see run for the seat in 2012.
The poll found Dewhurst to be the top choice of Republicans, garnering 23 percent support. But Paul was right behind him as the pick of 20 percent of GOP voters.
Really Texas? Really?
Personally, I don't believe any polling at this point. 2012 is just too far away. if we learned anything from the pronouncements about the death of the GOP after Obama's election, it's that everything can change in 2 years.
Still, Paul would have a lot of advantages in a primary race: high name recognition, a huge fund-raising base and of course an army of, um, dedicated followers. Oh and don't forget the blimp.
On the upside, if he does run for the Senate, at least the rest of us won't have to suffer watching him run for President again.

No. Not really. Ron Paul would get pretty well creamed by any of: David Dewhurst, Roger Williams (former Sec State, also current, very successful, businessman in Weatherford), or Michael Williams (currently a Railroad Commissioner). I even think he'd lose to Tom Leppert (current mayor of Dallas).

Texas, please ... PLEASE ... don't fuck this up. No RINO reload (Dewhurst) and for God's sakes not Ron Paul.
Could it be that Ron Paul gets votes because he is better than RINOs like Kay Bailey and Dewhurst? Just a thought.
Where Ron Paul kicks ass: domestic issues (plus immigration)
Where Ron Paul is an utter fool: foreign policy (plus defense)
That rests the case for, and against, Ron Paul.

I'm pretty sure Texas has a runoff, so he can't win an 8 way race with 20%. At least this will get this loon out of the House.

Good, because he has enough of a name to gain 20% of the vote in an unfocused race.. Especially with those who say "well, I like his views on fiscal issues."
Rand is surprising me by not being...insane. Ron has no such controls.
Plus, Ron Paul is 75 years old. He would be 77 upon assuming office.
Isn't Michael Williams a possible gubernatorial candidate?

For Senate? No. There's word he's looking at a Presidential run (despite his protestations otherwise), or that he'd be open to VP, but I think he's done all the legislating he ever cares to do.
Remember that as Lt. Governor under W, he had a lot more to do with actual bills that got passed than he does now as Governor.
This is also why I'm not terribly concerned that Dewhurst is a RINO. He's more of a squish than much of the state, but that still puts him as solidly more conservative than, say, Lindsey Graham, or John McCain.
Personally, I'm looking at Roger or Mike Williams as my two favorites. I'd really rather Dewhurst stay in Austin.

I actually like Roger Williams for his previous service as Sec. State and for his current business experience. I think he would tend to come at legislation with a much better idea of its impact on business owners than just about anyone else in the pack.
As part of the Railroad Commission, Mike Williams comes close- understands fiat regulation better, I suspect. So they're neck-and-neck in my view.

i'm more concerned with california continuously voting for bankruptcy, both moral and economic, since jerry brown was elected gov the FIRST TIME!!!!!!!!!!
We did have Governors George Dukemejian and Pete Wilson for two terms after Moonbeam, solid by Cali standards.
But then, the GOP elites, partly out of immigration romanticism, partly out of a greedheaded desire for cheap gardeners and maids, put out the word that excessive underclass illegal immigration was not to be dealt with. Those who would deal with it (Pete Wilson, Tom Tancredo) were to be shunned. Those who "Hispandered" (Jack Kemp) were to be promoted.
It has been downhill since. The best way to reduce bankruptcy, poverty and corruption is to *stop importing it*.

Because, in Texas, the Republican Primary is the election. At the moment, anyway. Short of a complete unknown (some state Rep, or Tom Leppert of Dallas, for example) winning the Republican Primary, the Republican won't really have much competition; the Democrat bench in Texas is empty.
Bill White would make a race interesting, but Democrats for National Office in Texas have the same problem RINOs do against Democrats: They have to play Republican-Lite. And, typically, we like our Republicans fairly pure. In addition to that, Bill White has, thus far, shown absolutely no interest in running another campaign right after getting creamed by Rick Perry in the Gubernatorial election.

Yes, I do.
The Jets offense has beaten Pat and Indy defense in the last two weeks. I don't believe either of those defenses is in the top 20. The Steelers have the number 1 D in the league. They gave up an average of 58 rushing yards a game. They've had One 100 yard rusher against them in the past 50 games.
Sanchez has had it easy.
The only way that the Jets win this game is if Pittsburgh has a special teams meltdown, which is entirely possible.

Well, she said she was going to help military families, so I for one am glad she's not following through with that. Oh, wait, she totally is:
...a three percent increase over last year...
Aides say the first lady has spent a great deal of time with military spouses and relaying their concerns to the West Wing staff. When pressed to outline exactly what the first lady had done to make this funding happen, an aide stressed it was a "team effort" and that while Mrs. Obama has played a role in conveying the concerns and issues that military families have around the country, she has not been directly involved in any budget negotiations.

Sorry, doesn't hold water. The Cheney/Rove/Bush wing of the Texas GOP wanted Kay Bailey to become Governor. Didn't work out that way.
In fact, if Debra Medina hadn't turned out to be insane, KB would have come in 3rd in that race.
Rick Perry can be accused of many things, RINO-ism isn't (legitimately) one of them. Occasional idiocy? Oh, yeah.
I do think that, if Ron Paul and David Dewhurst both run, they'll suck all of the oxygen out of the room, and it'll become a race between them. At least, in the media.

In baseball, I'm a National League fan because there actually is a difference between the two leagues and so I can root for the team that plays actual baseball.
In football, I can't see any reason to support one league over the other. I've got my team, and a few historical rivalries that I can hate on, but I have no allegiance to the NFC as the NFC.

Which disqualifies him for the senate how?
Half of them are blistering imbeciles, and half the remainder have alzheimers as it is. We had one that was in a coma for like 2 years and he kept right on voting.
What's the difference between an idiot who thinks guam will tip over, and an idiot who thinks a gold standard will answer all our problems? The idiot who wants the gold standard does not want to regulate every minute fraction of your daily life.

Jordan’s “Spending Reduction Act” would eliminate such things as the U.S. Agency for International Development and its $1.39 billion annual budget, the $445 million annual subsidy for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the $1.5 billion annual subsidy for Amtrak, $2.5 billion in high speed rail grants, the $150 million subsidy for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, and it would cut in half to $7.5 billion the federal travel budget.

Well if ya can't be good at least be interesting. The Jets seem to be doing both. Hey all those Years the Jets sucked ( well really since 1969) since I am a AFL fan, I have always rooted for the Steelers and anyway my wife went to school in Pittsburgh.
Yeah, I don't dislike the Jets. There really is no reason too. They've haven't been much of a threat.
It's not like the Ravens who are always at our throats. Or the Patriots who beat us in the AFC championship in 2001 because of a penalty on a punt.
The Steelers don't have much of a history or rivalry with the Jets. I think we'll win, but who knows for cetain, that's why they play the game. I had said here earlier in the week before the game against the pats that i thought the jets would win. I felt the Pats were playing well above their actual lever for the past few months.

I once prosecuted a case involving the robbery of a convenience store in which the clerk was shot in the head at close range with a .22 caliber pistol. The bullet hit her at the hairline, didn't penetrate the skull, move an inch or so under the skin then exited the head. By the time the cops got there, she was back behind the counter helping a customer. (I didn't prosecute the charges against the shooters. My guy was a friend of theirs who painted their vehicle and provided them with cash to flee the area. They did flee the area, got to Idaho, and killed two people in a home invasion robbery. At least one was sentenced to death in Idaho. I'm not sure if I ever heard what the other guy got.)

If you had your choice between someone like Jim Demint or Ron Paul, which would you choose?
DeMint. If it's a choice between Hutchinson or Cornyn and Paul, I'll take Paul.
Paul is not the only man who can save America, he's not even the most likely man, he's kind of kooky, and you'll need more than one man at any rate, but if he happens to become a senator, he is an asset to be welcomed.
Whether or not he's the best we have (he's not even close), he will be on the right side of the battle in general, and I'm not talking about the partisan battle. He'll be voting for DeMint's bills, and he'll be a pain in McConnell's ass, and he is the kind that would have contributed to a fillibuster of O-care where all the Snow's and Collin's failed us catastrophically in a way that may literally kill your grandmother, no hyperbole.
Unless she is Israeli.
Overblown bullshit. Dude might be a racist, don't know don't care. He isn't trying to kill or harm anyone.
He just doesn't want to stop the Muzzies from doing it.
Nope, probably not. So what? You don't need him to - he's fine to refrain. Others can stop that. It is not the only evil in the world. You shouldn't go looking for one person to solve everything anyway.
Got news for you: if the US winds up broke and busted, ain't no US politician gonna be prosecuting wars against terror in the mid-east because there won't be no money to pay for them.
Posted by: Entropy at January 20, 2011 08:33 AM (IsLT6)
And, lucky for us Texans (or Texicans to use the classical term), our choice is not between Hutchison or Cornyn & Paul.
I think even David Dewhurst is far, far better than either of our current two constituents, and I tend to think that he'll be pulled even further right by the electorate no matter what he wants to do.
So, if, by some freak accident, Ron Paul ended up winning the Primary, I'd vote for him. Until then, I plan to oppose him as much as possible.

Both of these guys are currently in the House. There they are just one voice of 435. In the Senate Paul would be one of a hundred and one of two from one of the largest and the most dynamic state.
That is a much bigger deal than the House. Paul is already the one the MSM goes to when they need an interview to make all conservatives crazy. Can you imagine how often he would show up on MSNBC if he was a Senator?
