Asteroid Flyby

An aircraft carrier-sized asteroid passed by the Earth this afternoon. The closest approach was at 6:28 p.m. Eastern, inside the Moon's orbit--its closest approach in 35 years. From Space.com:

The asteroid 2005 YU55 came within 201,700 miles (324,600 kilometers) of Earth at 6:28 p.m. EST (2328 GMT) Tuesday evening before speeding off into deep space once again at about 29,000 mph (46,700 kph).

The wiki entry actually has a pretty good graphic. If accurate, we're safe in 2029.

Apparently, there's some talk about a mission to Apophis to tag it with a transponder to make it easier to track.

It could be that these are early votes and are going to show in the respective precincts. I think they somewhat liberalized early voting this election. Before, the early voting affadavit was pretty clear that if you could get your ass to the polls on election day, you'd better do just that. The local papers have been saying that if you thought there was a chance that you might not make it to the polls, vote early. Sad fact: I don't know WTF to think anymore. The left cheats.

I'm watching the fraud this evening as at the Temple Beth El Precinct which is the only precinct to reliably go republican they have at 71% democrat completely reporting. My uncle remarried a few years ago. His new mother-in-law was a teen during the depression, and she saw fit to tell me about how she and all her friends couldn't wait for FDR to get on the radio and tell all of America what wonderful things he was doing for them. I chewed through my tongue out of respect for my uncle. I'm sure his mother-in-law is pleased as punch with what the democrats stand for.

The Fat Tuesday's across from George Mason isn't a bad hole-in-the-wall. I used to take my wife shooting every Friday night at NRA HQ Range, and there weren't many places to go nearby. We'd usually go to Cheesecake Factory at Fair Oaks or Malibu Grill in Fair Lakes. There are some nice restaurants at Fairfax Corner, but the place is laid out in that dumbass "town center" plan, and parking sucks. There used to be all kinds of places down US29/US50, but the only place I recognize nowadays is Hooter's. I don't think I've been to the Vienna Inn since the early '90s.

Ace, thanks for bringing this near-Earth-object to our attention -- for "political" purposes. Collisions by such have been civilization enders in the past. Today AGW-EvilCO2 is put forward as the civilization destroyer. Our saviors, the pseudo-scientists and their supportive politicians, want to increase our taxes to prevent "the end". Hogwash, a rural term, seems to be the appropriate response. The only candidate who has credentials not only in limited government and fiscal prudence, but in supporting real science, is Rick Perry.

For an excellent summary of the link between rapid, extreme climate change, asteroid and comet impacts, and the history of civilization endings see E.M. Smith, "Lunar Resonance and Taurid Storms." Chiefio.wordpress.com. He has numerous other posts where he has been trying to work out the long history of "rapid change".

There seems to be relatively dependable, cyclical dating of rapid, extreme cooling of Earth (e.g., Bond events). Best to spend some "adaptation dollars" on this issue rather than on fraudulent science. We might be close to the end of our "warm period" or interstadial (warm periods within an ice age). Again, Perry is the only one who seems to have any openness to our "adaptability" to reality.

I'm watching the fraud this evening as at the Temple Beth El Precinct which is the only precinct to reliably go republican they have at 71% democrat completely reporting. My brother lives pretty close to the Masonic Temple. I don't know how he does it.
