At Occupy Baltimore, A Mostly Peaceful Stabbing
— Ace

Love that headline gag by JWF.

"Mostly peaceful" is not peaceful. "Mostly peaceful" demonstrations are low-intensity riots.

WW2, if you think about it, was "mostly peaceful." There were whole swaths of the world in which there was no fighting, wasn't there? Apart from the mostly peaceful Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor (December 7th), and some sporadic naval engagements in South America, the whole North/South America half of the globe was "mostly peaceful."

Except whet it wasn't, of course.

According to a police report, officers arrived at McKeldin Square just after midnight for a report of an assault and spoke to the victim, who said she and 23-year-old Desiree Nicholson had gotten into an argument “because [Nicholson] was not taking care of her cat,” according to report.

She said Nicholson kicked her in the stomach, and then stabbed her on her arm and thigh with a knife. The victim was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment, police said.

11 The largest civil rights group in America, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), is petitioning the UN over what it sees as a concerted efforted to disenfranchise black and Latino voters ahead of next year's presidential election. The organisation will this week present evidence to the UN high commissioner on human rights of what it contends is a conscious attempt to "block the vote" on the part of state legislatures across the US. Next March the NAACP will send a delegation of legal experts to Geneva to enlist the support of the UN human rights council. The NAACP contends that the America in the throes of a consciously conceived and orchestrated move to strip black and other ethnic minority groups of the right to vote. William Barber, a member of the association's national board, said it was the "most vicious, co-ordinated and sinister attack to narrow participation in our democracy since the early 20th century" I guess they missed the part where we got a black President?

53 It reminds me of the old liberal trope in the runup to the Iraq War: "There are 63 wars going on right now! Do we need another!?"
Remember that? It was right up there with "Justice, not vengeance!" for Early 21st Century Liberal Bullshit.

It never made any sense to me because the number of wars doesn't really mean anything.  By that logic the years 1941-45 were the most peaceful years the world has ever know because there was only one war going on then.

74 Had a really annoying conversation with someone yesterday who thinks guns are scaaaaarrrreeeeeey and that people can turn into cowards at any time and can't be trusted with guns. I kept on making the point that lots of other things can be weapons too, like cars or knives, as in this case. And the VAST majority lawful gun owners don't commit crimes -- it's criminals who are barred by law from owning them that commit them in the first place. And that if you compare places with unrestrictive and very restrictive gun laws, guess which places generally have more crime? And that the right to bear arms is built into the US constitution; in fact, there was only one amendment prior to it. So if you don't like it, you can go to Europe. And that -- get over yourself. Just because you don't like them and are uncomfortable with the thought of other people owning them doesn't mean jack. I have no interest in guns and would probably be a little scared if I handled a loaded one right now since I have zero training, but that has no bearing on whether anyone else should be able to own one. He was also complaining about the castle doctrine and that a poor 16 year old who breaks into a car and "doesn't know any better" does not deserve to be shot or possibly killed. And I said that it's too bad. If you are 16 and don't know that breaking into a car, i.e., stealing someone else's property, is a crime and you live in such an area, you got whatever is coming to you. So here we have some crazy person stabbing someone over a cat, for goodness' sakes, and OMG, guns should be practically banned! Sorry for the long screed, but the conversation really, really annoyed me.

As I've grown older, I've started to find them tiresome, but there are times when I will not back down. I'm going to try to nix all political conversations with this person as soon as they begin. I don't mind other people expressing their points of view; in fact, I had a very enlightening debate/conversation with an anti-religion atheist once and I'm an evangelical Christian. If you're going to argue, at least know what you're talking about. Sheesh.

105 Give it up Ace -- most people approve of the motivating factors for OWS. In fact, the Tea Party has benefited greatly from the OWS movement simply because they share their animosity towards the big banks that should've been allowed to fail.

Whomever you were arguing with doesn't understand the Castle Doctrine.  It applies to the defense of persons, not property.  There is plenty of case law already prohibiting the use of deadly force against perpetrators of property crimes that have not endangered people.

In the scenario outlined, misunderstood youth attempting to steal a car, if the owner shoots the thief from the safety of the owner's house, the car owner is not protected by the Castle Doctrine.  However, if the owner goes out to confront the thief and the thief brandishes a weapon (around here, flat-bladed screwdrivers are the tool of choice for committing auto theft) and advances in an agressive manner towards the car owner, the car owner is justified in shooting the thief under the Castle Doctrine.

They're just waiting to make their next uninformed, smug pronouncement. You can't make them see logic or reason. But you can make them go away. My favorite reply when they're arguing for taking away my guns is, "If I had a gun in my hand right now I'd shoot you in the face." The look of horror and disgust is priceless, plus they now have confirmation of what a horrible person you are and a harrowing tale to tell their libtard buddies. Validation is the best gift you can give.

I'm not sure whether it's worth informing this person, though, because his emotional attachment to guns are scary and all humans are incapable of not randomly shooting people if allowed possession of firearms does not seem to allow anything to penetrate his brain. I also raised the point that if someone shoots another person for just walking by his car (an example he brought up), there is no court that would view that as self defense. He really views all humans as incapable of behaving responsibly - the makings of a true lib, even if he doesn't know he's one.

This just gets worse and worse.  I mean really why do these people think directly arming drug cartels is somehow helpful?  There has to be some reason beyond arming mexicans to take away arms from Americans.

Anyway, stolen from insty:

“Remember when gun-control activists insisted that loose purchasing regulation of American firearms had led to a massive uptick in arming the drug cartels in Mexico? Advocates demanded action to curtail gun sales in the US, and the Obama administration responded with new efforts at the ATF and Department of Justice — including Operation Fast and Furious. Now it seems that the big spike in arms supply to cartels didn’t come from local gun shops at all, but from the US government approving a rapid increase in direct sales from manufacturers to the Mexican government, whose purchases got diverted to the cartels — a fact known to the Obama administration all along.”

How many times? Can you reload? How about face kicking while he's on the ground? Jus askin'.

Shoot until the threat is stopped -- bad guy either drops to the ground or runs away (don't shoot him in the back unless he also shot at you)

Reloading under the right circumstances is OK.  An empty firearm is a not particularly effective club.  Don't reload to pump more bullets into the supine body of a perpetrator no longer posing an active threat.

If he's not an active threat, giving him a kick in the face is probably a bad idea.

* Basic Rule:  employ deadly force to protect yourself, family or neighbors from serious physical harm (i.e, would a successful attack put you/them in the hospital or kill you/them?), and deadly force is used until the threat is stopped.  Once the attack stops, deadly force is not longer justified.

Most of the big companies have gone to what is known as a "cash balance" plan where they contribute to a fund for retirement account. The employee must also contribute to it as well to get the company contribution.

The thing that most companies are doing now too to save money is totally eliminating medical for retirement. This would have been bad for me as at the time of retirement my wife had already had cancer and it would have been virtually impossible to get private health insurance.

180 We need some encouragement today! How about the last episode of HOMELAND? They have a Saudi Diplomat that has some information about an X captive that was turned to the Jihad. They blackmail Saudi diplomat with pictures of his homosexual sex, he even admits all defiant that he "loves sucking cock...yum, yum." That is not enough but threats to throw his favorite daughter out of America Med school, and she will face a life of growing fat while wearing a burka...that does it, diplomat sets up a meet with American traitor, CIA sets up to take him down. The are meeting in Farragut Square in D.C. Traitor sends homeless guy with suitcase, with a bomb which blows up Saudi Diplomat and several others. The upside is at least someone in Hollywood managed to impune homosexual sex, reveal Saudi Hypocrisy, and portray Jihadists as the ruthless ideological savages they really are.

181 Don't call them skateboarding drug pushers

Really, why do we call them "drug pushers?"  It's not like they force their clientele to purchase their product, after all.  They're not "pushing," they're "providing."

Lemme tee this one up for y'all:

Horn fatally shot the burglars, two illegal immigrants from Colombia named Diego Ortiz and Miguel de Jesus. Stephanie Storey, De Jesus' fiancée, wanted to see Joe Horn prosecuted.

"This man took the law into his own hands," she said. "He shot two individuals in the back after having been told over and over to stay inside. It was his choice to go outside and his choice to take two lives

Who has honors?

You know the problem was that the hippies wanted the drug dealers to cough up some freebies. Drug dealers are not known for tender hearts and generosity.

Posted by: maddogg at December 06, 2011 03:07 PM

The gangs also aren't known for non-violent dialog or restraint when it comes to enforcement. The hippies should count themselves fortunate that the gangs didn't do a drive-by on their tents

TX has much better laws than OH. I don't even think he was charged.

I don't disagree.  However, I do seem to recall that the shooting was reviewed by a grand jury and that the pro-illegal alien groups were attempting to pressure the prosecutor into filing charges.  Fortunately, the grand jury and prosecutor gave a hearty "f*ck you" to the troublemakers.

188 Oooooooo! Irongrampa - I'm picking up what you're puttin' down! It's got a very Outlaw Josey Wales vibe. However, I'm not quite 40 yet. I probably need a couple more decades of weathering before I can pull off the necessary look of world-weary disgust and scorn such an epic move deserves.

They aren't a union operation, aren't Communist, and don't pay into 'fair-trade' importation schemes, therefore they are an enemy of workers revolution™!

@ 138  You mean like robbing and beating somebody elses grandmother?

Not a good counterexample - robbing and beating somebody else's grandmother does affect me because the toleration of crime creates societal breakdown that ends up hurting us all.

From a local Portland blog, this is funny how "tough" they sound once they've run away.

"All those people who were out here at 3 am dancing need to decide if it's our park," he said. "You're willing to get beat up by riot cops, but you're not willing to get beat up by gang members?"

Said another occupier, Troy Thompson, the guy who was arrested last night after scaling the second-floor roof of city hall and erecting a Guy Fawkes Christmas tree. "We could smash 'em back, but what would that do to our movement? We're not another street gang. We're not here for a gang war."
