— Ace As you may or may not know, this is one conspiracy theory I can get behind.
Cashill lost credibility in my book when he moved from authorism to birtherism.
That said, I still like this theory. I didn't like it based on the authority of Jack Cashill (when I first read his articles I only vaguely knew of him); I liked it based on his evidence particularly Obama's sudden fondness for the nautical metaphors also favored by former Merchant marine Bill Ayers.
Or other oddly similar thoughts:
Identity is funny being yourself is funny as you are never yourself to yourself except as you remember yourself and then of course you do not believe yourself you do not really believe yourself why should you, you know so well so very well that it is not yourself.
Now it could not be yourself because you cannot remember right and if you do remember right it does not sound right and of course it does not sound right because it is not right. You are of course never yourself.
Now which one is Ayers and which is Obama? Well technically it's Obama, then Ayers, but maybe it's just Ayers twice. Hey, if you're being paid not a great deal of money to substantially re-write someone's crappy book, you're probably not going to sweat making up new stuff. You're probably going to coast on previous ideas.
He also ran some standard writing analysis programs on the texts, and found that Dreams From My Father scored a 54.8 in readability at a 12th grade reading level. That was divergent from Obama's other works, but oddly close to Bill Ayers' 54.0/12th grade score for Fugitive Days.
Cashill sometimes undermines his own argument by presenting lame evidence -- like really minor parallels about stuff most political writers will mention.
So sometimes I wish he'd separate the wheat from the chaff. But the wheat itself is good.
He's done a vlog recapitulation of his major points.
Did Ayers write Obama's book? I don't think Cashill means he wrote it outright, and I doubt that's what would have happened. Obama probably paid him to edit it, organize it, sharpen it up, punch it up.
But when an editor is confronted with a real piece of shit, he will often find that it's actually easier to rewrite passages almost completely rather than merely fix what's present. Sometimes it's just easier to start from scratch.
I know this, because while on Law Review, it was always drummed in that we had to fight the urge to "lose the author's voice," that is, simply rewrite him. We had to (we were told) work with what was there, not write it from scratch.
The reason we had to have this drilled into us is that, given some shoddy and clumsy writing, it really was easier just to rewrite it from almost scratch. So that was the tendency -- the easy way -- we had to fight.
Did Ayers forget to keep the author's voice and just start rewriting his dreck wholesale?
Yeah, I think probably.
Or, maybe like a tidal river in New York, the writing just flowed, upstream and then downstream, from one to the other, with authorship murky and tangled like so much jib-line on a dock...
We'll never know, of course. Ayers likes teasing conservatives by fake-"admitting" it, so he'll never spill. He hates us. And loves his protoge.
It's not a useful political line, but it's just fun to note.
Rara Avis, indeed.

Filled with apes
That eat figs.
Stepping on the figs
That the apes
Eat, they crunch.
The apes howl, bare
Their fangs, dance,
Tumble in the
Rushing water,
Musty, wet pelts
Glistening in the blue.
Come on, man. That's some good shit right there.

On one occasion when Ayers was confronted by a new crew in the street in front of his home, he feared for his life and called the police. This response from a prick who despises the system. Ayers is the consummate squeakhole wuss.

What I don't understand is why the takeaway from the official birth cert release wasn't "Ok, that pretty much settles it, he is a Brit." His only real hope was for the birth cert to show him a bastard and thus inherit his underage mother's nationality but it clearly says Stanley Ann Dunham Obama so underage mother married to British subject equals British by the law of the day.
He was born here though so he could have filed and become a US Citizen at some point after being born British and adopted into Indonesian citizenship but you either have Natural Born Citizen status at birth or you don't, you can't get it it later. It only matters for President, any Citizenship is equal to any other for every other purpose but that one exception.

I'm pretty sure I read that Cashill made exactly this accusation. That basically, Obama had a really crappy manuscript (but nonetheless had one) after blowing through his advance and that he gave it to Ayers to "punch up".
The more convincing evidence to me is how Dreams compares more to Fugitive and almost not at all to Audacity.
You really have to be naive to think that Obama wrote Audacity. Most think it was Plouffe. But Obama claims that he wrote it in his spare time in the Senate. Judging by his work ethic -- even given that he did nothing while in the Senate -- I doubt it very much.

From all the student essays I've read, I can vouch that this is definitely true. When I come across a confusing passage from a student in an essay, I will try to rewrite it in words that express what I think the student means, and that of course entails substituting my voice for the author's.

August 1961: Obama, Jr. born in HI.
September 1961: Dunham and Obama, Jr. are in Washington state as she takes classes at UW. Obama, Sr. (and Dunham's parents) still in HI.
June 1962: Obama, Sr. graduates from UH.
Fall 1962: Obama, Sr. goes to Harvard.
January 1963: Dunham and Obama, Jr. return to HI.

The only reference to natural born citizen in the Constitution as amended is the one in the qualifications for POTUS. The people who wrote the 14th Amendment can be assumed to have read the Constitution and known of that one special case. That they didn't mention it has to mean they weren't concerned with changing that bit.
Yes, young Barry could have (re)acquired US Citizenship based on being born here just like any anchor baby after mom dumped him back to granny from Indonisia. Unless of course he used his Indonesian citizenship to get bonus point on college admission, but that is a different theory for another day. But at birth mom was underage and dad was unquestionably a British national and that used to matter. Britain would certainly still consider Obama Jr. to be one of their Subjects were he to seek papers from Her Majesty's Government.
Tracing Obama to Citizenship isn't hard, but unless we are expected to pretend the Constitution explicitly specifying a higher bar for POTUS is 'outdated' and thus means nothing (i.e. living Constitution) we really need to have the legal firefight and settle the matter one way or the other. Good arguments can be mustered either way so it would of course come down to what Justice Kennedy happens to think.
The whole point behind the NBC clause was that the Founders didn't want Presidents to have divided loyalty. Of course in Obama's case there isn't much question of his loyalty... America: he is agin' it. But it does kinda prove the point the Founders had in mind.

Well, for Barack Obama, that was close enough to the truth that he could fantasize about it.
His father was a fantasy figure to him. An instant hero in which he could invest all of his fantasies -- a man who would never disappoint him.
Did his father abandon him? Well, sure, but look at little Barack's wacky mom and dimbulb grandfather. Of course he would abandon that situation. But little Barack would make his daddy proud.

Pathological liars can never truly relax. Every waking second they have to keep their entire life myth alive in their minds, lest someone accidentally find the flaws.
Where a normal person can say, "I don't remember what we did twelve years ago on vacation", a liar has to know. He never knows how much someone else may remember about it.
Creepy and sad.

I think at least 70% of the American electorate would, if they ever bothered to open a book, agree with that sentiment upon reading what's in there.
But we know that of the 53% probably one-third would agree with every word of it, and the other two-thirds never open anything more verbose than their credit-card statements.
So we've got Obama, and I guess as a whole we deserve the fool.

This guy is a fraud, the entire education system is a self-perpetuating fraud based on individual greed of do-gooders, the government is comprised of nothing, completely nothing, yet we are here and we all know that we are just waiting for the influx of rules and regulations for our lives.

57 Its was never been made clear to me that MacDaddy Obama actually cohabitated with his Hawaiian prize. I seem to remember he just kind of left, toot sweet.
Bill Whittle has a relatively new video on that on Pajamas media. The timeline is:
02FEB1961: married (although not legally, since Sr. was already married)
04AUG1961: Jr. born (Hmmm. I count 6 months...)
19AUG1961: Mom registered for classes in WA, leaving her husb & baby.
1962: Sr left HI for Harvard.
JAN1964: Mom filed for divorce.
Whittle says it appears that they appear to have lived as a family for, maybe, 2 weeks. There are no known family photos. There's also little or nothing on their marriage - no photos, or mention of where it was. Sr's parents wrote that they disapproved of it - for racist reasons.
So it was even more of a dysfunctional train wreck than you remembered. But I suppose the parents "cohabited" for some months before Jr. was born.

Now it could not be yourself because you cannot remember right and if you do remember right it does not sound right and of course it does not sound right because it is not right. You are of course never yourself.

Sorry, I hadn't gotten that far yet. Mostly the same info, but you do note that they must have been married, since she filed for divorce. In any state I know of, marriage records are public, so I'm surprised that nobody seems to have looked into that. Maybe the marriage record just isn't very specific as to the place of marriage.
Whittle seems to be saying, however, that Mom left Jr. back in HI when she went to school. But after that, he's unclear. I've heard the story that Sr only saw Jr once, but I thought that meant "once after he left". So I'm still unclear on where Jr was during all this. It would seem problematic to have a baby in tow at college - I would think a collectivist scum like Mom would pawn the kid off on her parents.
201 I doubt it, actually. I think she went to him in January and said, "Guess what?"
I just meant that they cohabited between their marriage and her heading off to college - the 6 months.

Second, there is a short passage in Karl Rove's book. The Audicity of Hype had just come out. Rove, a voracious reader, found his name mentioned in a snide and dismissive passage. Rove confronts the junior Senator about it on a visit to the White House and Barry denies the comment Rove quote to him is even in his book! So Rove pulls out his copy of AoH, shoves it in Barry's face and Barry just walks away.
People expect politicians to use ghost writers but Dreams came out before Barry entered politics and was sold as evidence that he is a genuine intellectual. It would be such fun to stick it to all the pretentious credentialed but not well educated pseudo intellectuals I know who swooned about their happiness in being able to vote for a President who could write a book like Dreams.

Realistically, Obama hadn't really written much of anything, had he? And so then all of a sudden he writes this book - which is said to be well-written - all by his lonesome? Such is the stuff of a cult of personality, not reality.
And therein lies the importance, as has been noted by a few, above. Obama campaigned soley on his cult of personality. Anything that chips away at that is a good thing. It's less important this time around, but it's still there. What's he going to run on? His record?? "Saving the economy" from the Evil George Bush?
There's also the matter of him having lied to us, and his really having a much closer relationship to a known terrorist than he admits.
But I see two main problems. First, it's long overdue. I recognize that nobody would dare vett The One, lest they be called "racist", but it's still just "old". Even the Ayers thing is "old". The people have spoken - they don't care, and they don't want to hear it. We're not talking about some weasly freshman Senator any more; now we're talking about their President.
Second, it's unprovable. That's the real problem. Dare I say we're in a Dan Rather situation (minus the fraud and inaccuracy, of course). We pretty much know it's true, but don't have the proof.
So what's a patriot to do?

Hammer away on Obama's unqualifications for the job and how badly the legacy media covered it up. I suspect there are a non-trivial number of people who bought into the One's advertised superior skills and are now befuddled at his daily screwups. They won't want to admit THEY were in error by not checking into a candidate before letting the Tube convince them the guy was a genius, but if they were LIED to that is different. Support can then transform into outrage with no guilt on them.
Our job when we nudge some ill-informed 'Independent' to see Obama as an empty suit is to then STFU and not rub it in, let em stay ignorant as long as they are pissed at their false messiah. Let em blame 'the media' instead of their own unwillingness to ask questions, let em stay in denial.
Obama only won by a few points. If this tactic can shave off a point from the squishy middle it helps a lot. Having a candidate on our team with positions an 'independent' can easilly distinguish from Obama outta be good for another point or two.

It is not an issue of such import that the Obamarrhoids can make any hay out of it. It is not, unlike the birther issue, some deus ex machina the most desperate Obama opponents can hope for to boot him prematurely from the White House. It does not implicate anyone with high crimes against the state, as the Truther issue does.
Therefore, there is little to no downside to zinging Obots on this issue. Granted, it is not something worth a reporter ever asking the President about (any more than the Birther issue was, which was not at all), but any competing narrative that can be stoked that can erode the Obamic Myth chanted by the MBM means a big potential upside. His continued ineptitude in handling presidential affairs will reinforce the counter-narrative.
Jolly good sport, this is, and those of you not relishing it are just sticks in the mud.

You know, there is a lot out there that has got to leave independents saying WTF? To start with, there were some seriously incompetent lapses in leadership that were kind of glaring, if you had your eyes open.
First, there was the BP spill thing. He gave that silly sob story about talking to his daughter (shades of "Checkers", I suppose), but then you find out he never even picked up the phone to talk to BP for a month and a half. That's a huge WTF, without even recognizing that all he ever really did was twist the arm of a company to pay money that it had already promised, despite having no legal obligation to do so.
Second was the Libya thing. He orders a major attack on a foreign country with even consulting with Congress (which he lied about later) and then heads off to Rio (partly for vacation)!?! Doesn't even give an address to the country for a week and a half? Triple-WTF!?!
Beyond that, you've got things like spending almost a trillion dollars to lower unemployment, which only succeeded in raising it instead.
And of course, ObamaCare.
Yeah, it could be that independents are looking for an explanation for "How could I have been so wrong?" and if we can show "You were lied to" that should go a long, long way.
I take it back. I love it.

Of course, maybe that's the first time MacDaddy hit it. Sure. Clockwatcher.
That, or he wasn't only a bigamist, but a statutory rapist into the bargain.

And we already know about his outstanding lineage.
04AUG1961: Jr. born (Hmmm. I count 6 months...)
19AUG1961: Mom registered for classes in WA, leaving her husb & baby.
Barely a week out the hospital and off on a jet airplane... maybe she made reservations knowing it was that close...

I don't think that questioning the authorship of Dreams is anything like birtherism. The facts of the situation are pretty clear.
Obama had signed a big contract for a book. He'd failed to deliver a manuscript on the first go-round, but was given a second shot, and a big advance.
At the time, he didn't have much money, and probably couldn't afford to refund the advance, but he floundering, given that he's no writer. (As the Anchoress points out, writers write, and Obama doesn't.)
However, one of his friends is a well-known author with a long list of titles that have sold well. So, he did what any of us would have done, had we found ourselves in that situation: he asked his buddy for help. Maybe money changed hands, maybe not; but the buddy did help, and he probably left his mark on the book's organization and narrative voice.
If Obama were just an ordinary guy, I'd have no trouble overlooking this: a guy was in a bind, and got a boost from a friend. The book is what matters, not who wrote it. The problem is that, based in part on Dreams, Obama has been sold to the people as a genius with peer or parallel in our nation's history: Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Mark Twain all rolled into one. The facts of how Dreams was written would help to prick that particular balloon. Or as the priest said in The Man Who Would Be King when Sean Connery's cheek started bleeding: "Not a god, but a man!"

The old CYA. Such is an act of moral cowardice and always has been.

Biographer Christopher Anderson confirms Cashill's theory in his book Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage.
He writes that Barack had already spent the advance but couldn't get the book together, and at Michelle's urging, took whatever material he had and submitted it to Ayers- who then wrote the book. Anderson had access to many Hyde Park people acquainted with the Obamas, and basically asserted that this arrangement is common knowledge.
Cashill has several pieces about this in his archives.
