This hurts T-Paw, as she'll strongly compete for home-state donations.
In related news, Meghan McCain just got a new tattoo of a rack of spare ribs eating a burrito.

Tim Pawlenty is okay but I know that the very moment he gets the nomination he'll turn on the base to try to endear himself to the moderate Democrats.
I'm not in the mood to be shit upon again by the GOP nominee.
Posted by: Soothsayer, Republican Whip at March 24, 2011 09:38 AM (1tFVW)
And that's the main flaw of most Republicans.
They don't know how to appeal to moderates without crapping on the base.

Posted by: Soothsayer, Republican Whip at March 24, 2011 09:44 AM (1tFVW)
This is a vanity run. She's just trying to raise her profile. She has no chance of getting the nomination.
And, unfortunately, it's going to push candidates with a real chance, like TPaw, to the left because there's no room to compete against a firebrand who stirs the base.
She's going to make a lot of enemies out of this -- and among conservatives.

I doubt there is much crossover between her fundraising base (which is already established nationally) and Pawlenty's.
Let's face it, though: if the economy booms, Obama gets reelected. If it stays where it is or grows only marginally, he gets beaten. The competitive race is in the gray area between those two. If it gets to that, the last thing we need is someone who can be painted as extreme.
We cannot let Obama scare away the swing voters who just returned to us if we want to win the White House. And our best chance for a working majority in the Senate is to NOT nominate someone who will motivate the Democratic base to turn out in force.

She's already made some enemies among conservatives because she's "my way or the highway" when it comes to getting things done (similar to Jim Jordan). I think that's fine in Congress but I'm not so sure about that quality in a president. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for a president to tell off all our enemies, but the presidency requires a certain type of patience (e.g., Reagan & the USSR).
Still, I like her better than a majority of the people running and I hope she doesn't quite her House seat. I don't always agree with her, but she is passionate about her causes and perseveres in spite of media sneering. Wish more of the presidential candidates possessed that.

We need the next Reagan. But I don't see one. Bachmann is solid, in my book, but the left wing media will shred her. Pawlenty is warm pudding. The electoral dynamic right now is very very hard to read.

O'Commie got elected because of his dictation while speaking. He wasn't qualified, but he TOLD the stupid masses that he was, and they bought it. Yeah, the were suckers, but we know that at least 50% of the voting population is about as smart as some gum.

Ironically, she might win if MN continues its tradition of running third-party candidates.
Minnesota is funny because I think they know that the DFL sucks. But it isn't supposed to suck, why they're for farmers! and laborers! and democracy!
The defeat of Jim Olberstar was an earthquake in MN politics. Yes, the Dem won the governorship, but he's a nonentity now. They are starting to lose their hold over people who don't agree with them but vote DFL out of reflex.

You useless pissants are going to beg to be euthanized. Romney will get 35% in NH, 5% in SC, 10% in IA and split the Mormon vote in NV with Huntsman, for show and place. Making him your MW Hope.

^ This last sentence of yours is one of my concerns. If two firebrands decide to run as a ticket, I want to see that they can put together a Cabinet of do-ers. My issue with some firebrands is that they give a good speech but you start questioning them about how government works and some of them don't know, even people who've been in Congress for a long time. So if two people who know to take-on Obama but aren't so good at formulating actual policy run, it's highly important to me that they have a Cabinet capable of crafting and executing policy.

Where did I say I wanted Romney?
If Romney continues to be the front-runner and is our nominee, then the best way to balance that ticket is with a running mate whom the base trusts and who brings some foreign policy and/or military experience. I think West is a better choice than Bolton in terms of the regional issues, having been vetted in an election, and his appeal to the base.
But I actually disagree with your characterization of Romney as a squish. And I do not want a neophyte in the big chair in the White House.

It looked like he had taken a page out of the "Obama change in play book" as this is what the pres seems to be doing. From what I've read, on a federal scale the bill is unconstitutional but in the states, it would not be unconstitutional. Most Americans are disgusted, want the bill repealed period, they want it and all the accompanying taxes and the hidden death panels and the "friends of BO (like friends of Angelo) waivers to be over, done with so we can go back to free market capitalism in the greatest medical system on earth and make it better. Believe me, to go back to the old system I would personally pay for a family to have health care as long as the government isn't' requiring me to do so as long as I'm doing it out of the goodness of my heart.

Great. Another no-shot candidate to split the vote, because no venue could possibly be complete without the awesome awesomeness of her divine presence.
The primaries aren't there to help raise your profile or fund your PAC. They're not there to give you a personal sounding board. They exist for the sole purpose of nominating a candidate to represent the party in the general election.
Any "candidate" who is running without a reasonable expectation of winning the nomination and beating the Dem opponent should be run out of town and excluded from the debates. Then bitch slapped.
