— Ace I predict she won't, and you can take that to the bank. 2 for 2 so far!
"Senior insiders" say this, and I guess that means... her campaign director? Her spokesman?
Here's more evidence:
She unveiled a new website design Monday that highlights Team Bachmann rather than Congresswoman Bachmann.
That's not proof or anything, but now she's not running for Congress, she's running for ???.

I've seen her up close in DC at a tea party thing. (The day healthcare passed)
She's very attractive, particularly for an older woman who has a bunch of kids. She has aged well. She also seems like a genuinely nice person, who cares about her country. Sincere in her beliefs.
I think she's a tad weak in interviews, Palinesque iow, and can't appeal to enough people to translate into 270 electoral votes.
So I can't support someone who I don't think can win.

Bearing in mind that this is just my impression based on what I've seen of her and reading her wiki bio (insert insults of me here), she comes off as a not particularly bright ideologue. (hurl insults of me here)
Basically, it looks like she got a law degree from Oral Roberts, didn't practice law, raised a family, then got into state politics and now national politics riding the tide of the backlash to Big Government. I have the impression she's not a particularly popular figure on the hill (doing her own 'rebuttal' to the SOTU probably didn't help) so I don't know how effective she really is or would be down the road. I think she's sincere, but I think she's rigid and not persuasive.
But I'll look into her record more and see if I've gotten the wrong impression.

A Senator from a non-farming State can do it. An urban area House member can do it somewhat as well. But no House member who has a significant farming district can.

I think it can produce someone who attains office by appealing to popular sentiment, but who cannot accomplish much when they are in office because they do not know how to play well with others. I am less interested in how pure someone is ideologically than I am in what he or she can accomplish.
But I have not looked into her record in any kind of detail. I know she sponsors a lot of popular with the "true conservatives" stuff, but I don't know if it's gotten anywhere.

Keep her away from the beans.

As for Bachmann jumping in, by all means. The more conservatives that jump, the harder it will be for the more moderate types to stay that way. The cons will get a lot more of the attention, negative or positive, and the mods will have to adjust themselves over to get it.
I want the most CONSERVATIVE person who is still electable. Right now I think that would be Pawlenty (though I would give for Bachmann's ability to whip up a crowd over Pawlenty's ability to whip up some Z's), but I have looked seriously at Cain. With enough money, and AVOIDING ANY MORE GAFFES, he could very well be formidable.
Whats funny about Gingrich's implosion is it forces the other moderates and RINOs to the right as a reaction to distance themselves. Get a few more of them to detonate and they will all be soundling like Bachmann come 2012.

But the dominant liberal media won't portray Pawlenty as "dingbatty" for his previous global warming comments/stance; they agree with those comments, so that makes him more "reasonable" to them on that front. They'll find other criteria to attack Pawlenty on.
Remember, their objective is to sabotage the Republican nominee (whoever it may be) in the eyes of the swing voters who decide elections.

Good call. What the Tea Party wants, the Tea Party can get. If the Tea Party wants Cain, Cain can win. The idea of Cain dressing down Obama in a debate, exposing his lack of common business sense and just overall smallness of achievement with the smile and folksiness of Our Favorite President is something I would relish to no end.

that's debatable. I'd prefer Bachmann as chair, btw.
But here's the thing, Jeb's a good guy, but be honest, between Jeb and Michelle, who did more to win back the majority in 2010?
Fuckin-A right it was Michelle. She campaigned her ass off and stood up for conservatism and spoke up against the smears on the Tea Party. If it wasn't for Michelle Bachmann, those GOP fucks would be chairman of their dining room tables.

I also think he thought he would waltz into the nomination and get elected. He now has a primary rival who is a successful company owner and a former marine.
Pence has never been in business...he was a radio talk show host before he got elected. And I don't think he has ever served in the military, either.
To make matters worse, whoever wins the primary is going to have to run against John Gregg, former Speaker of the Indiana House and an old-time democrat from southern Indiana. He is a family guy, charming and jolly (he's a little plump), and has a reputation for getting along on both sides of the aisle. Very likable man and likely to appeal to southern Indiana residents.
Pence is not quick on his feet in interviews, and he tends to be slightly pompous (in my opinion). He might very well wish he had just stayed in the leadership in Congress.

Making a flip comment about how you're not going to hire disloyal Muslims (which has virtually no real world consequences) is not the same as pontificating on the best policy in Afghanistan (all kinds of consequences), for which there is plenty of disagreement on within the party.
Is a surge of troops and a large footprint the best idea or a more limited (but indefinite) special forces mission appropriate? I've thought a lot about Afghanistan in the last 10 years and I don't have an answer for that. Any GOP candidate who says they have the right answer is lying their ass off.

Or Catholics or Mormons or Jews or Evangelicals.
The point is not concern for the sensitivities of Muslims. It's that it's unconstitutional to apply that sort of standard when making judicial appointments. And, as I said above, it's simply unnecessary for Cain to have stated it that way when all he had to do is state that he would not appoint judges who wanted to enforce Sharia Law.
Frankly, I think some of the progressive justices who aren't Muslim are just as likely to apply Sharia Law. Wasn't there just a case recently where the judge was applying it to the distribution of some guy's estate after he died? I don't think that judge was Muslim.

She wouldn't get the vote or support of a single person that has ever worked for her in the past. Even now she's continuing to cycle through staff at a blazing rate.
Remember the stories about how John and Elizabeth Edwards used to treat people? (This is aside from Edwards not being able to keep it in his pants, mind you.) All those anecdotes that made it into the book Game Change? Let's just say that Michele Bachmann has that topped by miles. MILES.
She's quite simply a very selfish, relentlessly ambitious person who treats everyone around her like dogshit. I've been hinting at it for a long time around here, but I might as well just come out and say it: she's not a good person, in private. And yes, character matters to me. Even if I believed her positions on the issues were borne out of true principle rather than cynical calculation, I wouldn't be able to support a politician whom I know both through personal experience AND through the ample testimony of EVERY SINGLE ONE of her former staffers (we're not talking interns here, either) to be a rotten human being.
Do not trust Michele Bachmann. She is a snake.
I would vastly prefer Sarah Palin to Michele Bachmann, and everyone here knows what I think about Palin -- does that tell you something? (I'll say this about Palin: the people I know who have worked closely with her criticize her for being almost destructively hypersensitive about media attacks and perceived insults, but to a man/woman they vouch that she's both the 'genuine article' and that she and Todd are fiercely loyal to their team. Even though I'd never support her for President I do like that, and that puts her miles ahead of the serpent that is Michele Bachmann.)
