Barney Frank Will Not Seek Reelection
— Ace

O frabjous day!

He announced it this morning, and will have a press conference at 1:00.

Obviously I'm hoping this gives Sean Bialet a chance, but given Massachusetts' complete rejection of all federal Republican candidates in the watershed year of 2010, I don't know.

Unresolved: Did Frank Fart on Rachel Maddow? I think so.

32 Either Barney just found out that he's sick and prefers to exit while he can or he's come to conclusion that the Dems are likely to take another historic beating in 2012 and their chances of retaking the House are nil. Couple the latter with Obama's apparent strategy to write of the the blue collar white vote and it would make sense to leave now. Otherwise, I don't see someone like Frank giving up his position lightly.

109 110 Frank, a longtime wide receiver, hopes to get a position as Offensive Holder Coach or Tight End Recruiter with the Penn State football team.

There is also a position open on the Syracuse basketball coaching staff.  Syracuse and PSU are not that far apart(by west coast standards).  What is it with that part of the country and raping boys.

118 102 People like Frank just don't quit. Something is up. Might be related to Dodd-Frank Legislation or some kind of scandel. I beleive the news will break within a week........Bottem-line is that something big is up......... ----------------------------------------------- Care to speculate as to what? I've thought for a while now that the Republicans are laying the foundation of corruption with F&F and Solyndra and that after the first of the year they'll begin to tie all of this together in an attempt to brand Obama as the most corrupt POTUS in history. I can see how more than a few Dems could get caught up in the ensuing melee.

Best comment I saw on HA about this:  Barney's quitting to spend more time with Freddy's Fannie.

Best version I've heard of that is this:  Barney's Frank was in Freddie's Fannie.  His old boyfriend Herb Moses was a top exec there.

121 My guess is that the Republicans in the House are going to drop a nice big fat investigation of Fannie and Freddie, in which Frank will prominently figure, right into the middle of the 2012 election.  Liberal district or no, a massive enough scandal could lead to Frank's loss to a Republican.  A fresh face will likely save the seat.  I suspect that Frank decided to retire after a nice long talk with Nancy P.  Lawyer up, fun boy!

Posted by: Elmyr D'Hory at November 28, 2011 07:38 AM (27FWb)

122 Reasons (or, as Bwany Fwank would say: weasons?) for bailing on Dems: "those Wascally Wepublicans won't let him get anything done."

Either that, or a scandal coming down the pike. Yehaw.

123 No, such an investigation means nothing to Democratic voters.  Blago was under investigation-didn't stop the voters here.  Jesse Jackson Jr. tried to buy the Senate seat-the D base will vote for him.  They have no shame or morals.

124 I donÂ’t think itÂ’s redistricting. Frank wouldnÂ’t have had to run against anyone else: Under the new redistricting plan, Rep. Barney Frank would keep half of Fall River and acquire some of Rep. James McGovernÂ’s old district that extended into Bristol County, but he would lose New Bedford, which is now in the 9th. Â… McGovern would acquire a good portion of Franklin and Hampshire counties, which also are currently in Olver's district. http://www.thebostonchannel.com/r/29702664/detail.html

Posted by: ejo at November 28, 2011 07:52 AM (wA6NB)

128 If I had to guess it is something with Freddie-Mac or Fannie-Mae. Frank was deeply invovled with the Real-Estate market collapse. Has to be something big because roaches like Frank and Dodd do not automatically run to hide when the lights come on.  Secondary theory is that Frank feels the Dems will not control the House for a decade and Obama is a huge anchor on the Dems which will lead to a landslide in 2012.  Democrat-Socialist party of Obama is about to get it's ass kicked !!

130 123 Hate to rain on the parade, but Massachusetts is due to lose a Congressional seat post the last Census. Frank's district will just get carved up and merged into its neighbors. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's already complete and the district that was "absorbed" was the rural western district. Frank's district remains, though it was modified as part of the process, and may have become even more competitive than it was in 2010.

134 While I'm glad that Frank won't be around anymore, I seriously, seriously doubt that any republican will get elected anytime soon in MA. And, in all honesty, who can blame them? Even if a majority of people in MA agree with republicans fiscally, they know that, the minute they elect a republican majority, gay marriage will become illegal again. Even Sean Bialet is anti-gay marriage, and pro-DADT

Barney Frank: a man of convictions At fault for homeowners' eviction In bed with Fannie Mae Their exec's also gay Crossing swords because he likes the friction But now Barney's had a good run His legacy, by the left, well-spun But truth won't conform 'twas Frank who blocked reforms Of Fannie that Bush wanted done Not generally known for his class More famous for brashness and sass Hailed from east and north Always backed by the 4th 'cause he like Fannie's dick in his ass He couldn't speak without slurring a sentence Demanded we all pay our pittance But now Barney's leavin' There'll be no more deceivin' And, Frankly, good fucking riddance
