— Ace The future of America. A snot-nosed soft-handed pencil-necked punk demands that working people pay for his tuition. When asked Why?, all he can do is reiterate "because that's what I want... why not?"
I was just putting this in the sidebar and saw Ben had it there. On the theory that two sidebars equal a main post, I'm thinking this is something.

In my freshman year in college one of the first concepts I was taught was something they don't even teach in college anymore: "TANSTAAFL". I got it in a philosophy class, I got it in an English class and I got it in a liturature class. My oldest two children have graduated from Notre Dame and Purdue and neither one has ever even heard of "TANSTAAFL" nor could they tell you what it means. They were, however, heavily indoctrinated in liberalism.
There are reasons some species eat their young.

Someone should ask this kid why we don't take all the rich people's money and use it to feed all the starving kids in the world? After all isn't that more important than his liberal education? Short circuiting liberal logic is so easy.

Here is what we need to do:
1) Collect of two types of OWS videos... A) I want stuff for free and B) Let me explain to you just how bat shit crazy I am.
2) Then throw on top of those the Dems such as Pelosi talking about how they agree with the protests.
3) Profit

Our parents grew up during the depression and WWII, and spent a lot of their lives with very few luxuries, and in some cases, not even the basics. They didn't want their children to do without. They gave them everything they ever wanted. As a result, many people from my generation never learned the value of hard work and earning things on our own. We passed this failure along to our children and it's even worse among them than it is among us.

DeMatha high school in Hyattsville, Maryland had a legendary basketball coach in Morgan Wootten. Adrian Dantley, among others, played for him. One time before a key game (against Dunbar in Baltimore when they were a real powerhouse iirc) Dantley, the star of the team, missed a practice. When it was time for the game, Wootten sat him at the end of the bench and he had to watch as the team got crushed. As the final seconds expired, Wootten walked up to him and said "It would've been nice if you could've helped us today."

So punk wants the taxpayers to fund his college party life. You know, a number of States have programs that fund college tuition for students (but not everything) who maintain a solid grade point average in HS and then later in college.
GA has such a program and it is funded from the lotto program. IIANM 100% of the lotto profits go to that program (unlike ours here in SC which became just another slush fund). We lost a solid guy from my workplace because of that program. He had two sons both doing well in HS and would be entering college in a few years. He got an offer from a place near Atlanta with an increase in salary, but not enough to offset the cost of living increase. However when he threw in the college tuition program it made a HUGE difference.
He left.
Why aren't these bums doing that? You recon they don't have anything in the order of a good grade point average?

Big Time. Speaking to a NYC friend talk about Bush playing golf in NYC on 9/12. Seems Bush thinks Romney is the guy. He thinks Perry a retard (I guess that's why I like him). Bachman is a retard and I don't like her - although she can put a mean hummer on a hot dog - so she is a net plus for humanity. Ron Paul is crazy as shit on a hot day and probably needs to be institutionalized for his own safety. Santorum looks and acts dimwitted. Newt is sharp as tacks but loves to hear himself talk. Cain is a nice man - which means he is not suited for politics. So I guess its Romney - the new Nixon.

I agree that people get far too panicked over the role of religion in politics nowadays (e.g. the Perry Mormon flap) largely due to the anti-religion media and educational establishment wildly distorting the First Amendment and people's view of religion, particularly Christianity, in general, but a gaffe's still a gaffe in my book.
I don't think it's anti-religious to point out that Bachmann's statement reinforces a perceived negative for her (her image as some kind of zealot - not one I share) or a desire to incongruously shoehorn religious references into her statements to pander to her base (I'd convict her on that score), or that her rhetoric in general tends to be overblown (guilty as charged once more).
She shows herself up as a political amateur taking advice from bomb-thrower consultants. It doesn't fit what I thought her image was before this campaign and its turned me from pretty supportive prior to the Rollins hire and her serial gaffes since into someone who just wants her to go away before she does her own image and the cause in general more damage.

I think we are making a huge mistake in mocking and dismissing the OWS types. That is exactly what they did to the Tea Party, and look what it got them.
The Tea Party was mocked for not having a unified message, and not having identifiable leaders.
Which made it tough for the left to use Alinskyite tactics on them. They couldn't find, freeze and personify attacks on the Tea Party.
And consciously or unconsciously, I think they are trying to emulate that here in OWS.
I would take these protests very seriously, and see them as a very dangerous opponent.

They should be mocked, but not dismissed.

It doesn't fit what I thought her image was before this campaign and its turned me from pretty supportive prior to the Rollins hire and her serial gaffes since into someone who just wants her to go away before she does her own image and the cause in general more damage.

I agree. Where the tea party got mostly negative stories from the media the same media is having orgasms over these "protesters." That makes it a very dangerous situation in my book in the court of public opinion/the sheeple.

On topic for a change today: The kid's only doing what his grandparents, parents, teachers and professors have done - it's what kids do.
The whole "protest culture" of the 1960's taught the succeeding generations that all you have to do to make something happen is take to the streets and yell about it.
This won't change until 1) parents change and 2) schools change. Then the whole motely horde of cultural camp followers like the news media, music, movies/TV etc... will follow suit like good little lemmings following their Pied Piper demographic back into white collar being cool and out of the hippie fever swamp.

Do chicks dig this "somebody has to feed me!" bullshit?
I think they do when they are young. My daughter graduated (fortunately) from the sensitive, needy, musician type to the hard working, physical, loyal, biker type when she got tired of paying Mr. Sensitive's rent, and buying Mr. Needy's food. She is a LOT happier dating men with chests.
I was taught by my Mother that if I wanted a superior wife, I would have to be a superior man. These sensitive, needy types just want a Mother to take care of them while they pursue their art or their causes. Work, including actually working on a relationship, would just interfere.
Women , as they mature, have a wonderful ability to identify Peter Pan, and move him off their 'possible' list onto the 'fun only' list...even if they are ardent for causes themselves. Eventually, someone has to buy a house and help raise the kids, after all.

Can't recall where I read this, but:
"When the professor goes off on a tangent, you know, one of those really interesting sidebars or sidelights on the topic at hand that really make learning the stuff worthwhile, irrelevant, but FUN -- that's when somebody raises her hand and says, 'Will this be on the test?' And it's always an Education major!"

OK, let's go with your point. Every TEA Party gathering had one common theme. Smaller Government.
It sure sounds to me like the OWS types have one common theme too. "Hand-outs."
Oh, they won't call them that. It will be called something nicer, like "Investing in Americans" or something like that.
Now I may be wrong. I hope I am. I hope the OWS implodes in a maelstrom of filth and fury.
But I'm not counting on it.
Dismiss them at your peril.
They are dangerous.
We all said they would never last when they first started. "Oh, look at the pathetic loosers. A couple of dozen losers tried to occupy wall street. They'll be gone by the weekend."
Shit man, it is over a month later, they are still there. Louder and larger than ever. Spreading to other cities.
How does that saying go?
1st they ignore you.
Then they mock you.
Then they attack you.
They you win / they have to deal with you seriously.
I don't want the OWS to make it to the final step.

300.....The smart moves right now are being made by cool heads like Bloomberg, giving the protesters license to occupy that park, and Romney, who's already showing sympathy for their cause, if not their tactics. If this doesn't get addressed, it won't get diffused, and then all bets are off for November 2012.
Romney can placate them all he wants....but they are protesting against "filthy rich corporate millionaires"....and next year that will be their chants against him.

The Boomers - the children of the greatest generation - are in their early 60's - their children are in their early 40's, the OWS generation are the grandchildren of the Boomers, the great grandchildren of the greatest generation.
While the greatest generation was truly great, they were crappy indulgent parents who didn't slap their stupid silly children down because they had seen enough of death and destruction in WWII and Korea and thought - "well maybe the kids are right".
The Boomer Hippies effectively vanished with the National Guard shootings at Kent State. Two things happened very quickly after that - either they grew up and became adults or they went underground like Bill Ayers and the Weathermen did. Those who went underground have only now resurfaced since Teh Won is in office and making their criminally insane dreams come true.
When you allow leftist bull shit to be taught in schools without resistance - this is what you get; sow crap - reap crap.
The OWS generation is the end result of the "You get self esteem just by existing" school of 'thought'. Nobody has told these kids that they've been lied to: self esteem - like anything of value - has to be earned. Of course these kids are screwed up - when you've been taught nothing but lies - how can your life be anything but twisted and deformed? Did you really think there would be no consequences to telling material lies to children?

It was a fucking stupid thing to say. Did she honestly think it was clever? That it was insightful? Because it wasn't. It was forced, clearly rehearsed, and obviously intended to appeal to Bible thumpers.
You may get off on that kind of pandering, but others do not. And slandering people who dislike her silly little phrase as "anti-religious fanatics" is dishonest and absurd, no better than labeling someone a racist for opposing Obama's policies. Congrats on joining THAT club.

Not so fast with that greatest generation tag. They voted FDR in office 4 times and gave birth to the Boomers. They also stood by and watched their rotten kids tear up universities, burn the flag/draft cards, support North Vietnam against their own country and basically act like animals. I have to deduct major points for that.
