Billy Tauzin, Pharma's $11.6 Million Dollar Man
— Ace

...and a buddy of Obama's. And they guy who brokered a deal between Obama and PhRMA in 2009, over ObamaCare.

In 2009, as the leader of PhRMA, he brokered a deal capping at $80 billion the amount drugmakers would contribute to the overhaul in return for his organizationÂ’s support of the law.

It's worse than that. PhRMA actually agreed to spend from $100 million to $150 million on advertising to support ObamaCare (and ergo to support Obama himself).

Ira Stoll wants to know what $11.6 million bought, exactly.

The system really is very corrupt, isn't it?

Yup the system is corrupt.

The question is is the present administration more or less corrupt than the system.

I guess what irks all of us is the blatant nature of the corruption. The arrogance of the powered elite in simply deciding to do as they please with the money they steal via the tax laws. Outright payoffs publically visible to anyone who looks, with so little outrage it begs one to shout at the top of their lungs, "ENOUGH!"

When a sufficient number of the folks do this, maybe, just maybe, we can find  way to stop it.

It is the system.  The system started becoming corrupt long ago- because power does, indeed, corrupt, and people are, indeed, greedy.  Insofar as the system relies on people with big enough egos to think they can be elected to national office, it is corrupt.

What previously held that corruption in check was that we did not have nigh-universal suffrage, and the States still had considerable power to hold the federal government accountable.  When those two things changed, the corruption became endemic- it metastasized.  Now the whole thing is corrupt.

I'm not sure what we do about it besides cut it to the bone and hope we can get all the cancer out.

25 I still don't understand why everyone is upset at me. I like helping out women with poor credit. And I don't ask for anything in return, definitely not anything remotely sexual. Sure, they all give me those wonderful private spot mouth hugs that ladies are so good at with their pretty little mouths and soft feminine lips. But since when are private mouth hugs a bad thing?

How can anything sexual happen when she keep her clothes on the whole time? That doesn't make any sense. A man can't lie with a woman when he's standing the whole time. Hell, I never even took off my hat.

Note that the MSM is complicit by not talking about this stuff... they are too worried about loosing 'access' to their pet insiders.

The Press was given special priveleges in the Constitution, so they could WATCH the Government... but the thought was that they would be outsiders, looking in.... not part of the system itself.

I disagree with Levin on one aspect of his assessment of what our government has become.  He says it's a soft tyranny; I say we've been in soft tyranny for years and are now moving to the more vicious kind.

I'm still of the opinion that 2012 may be too late.  The SCOAMF is going try everything in his power (and trust me people, he has a lot of power) to bring this nation down before the election.  Some people say "let it burn".  Well, that's exactly what Barky is saying too.

While weÂ’re on the subject of corruption, hereÂ’s how the whole thing will go down.

Obama will continue a massive fundraising campaign to milk every dime possible out of the left.  He will spend little in the first half of 2012, explaining that heÂ’s husbanding the resources until the republican candidate is chosen.  In June, heÂ’ll announce that after analyzing the internal polls and consulting with his closest advisors, he has determined that the racially charged atmosphere that the republicans have created makes it impossible for him to be reelected and that to continue would drag the entire party down.

However, Obama will say that he still believes his service to the country is unfinished, so he will start a long-range campaign to recapture the White House in 2016 (or later if necessary) if the republicans win against whoever (Hillary) the democrats choose to be the candidate.  Following FEC rules, Obama will purchase a Boeing 757 with campaign funds and outfit it in the splendor heÂ’s become accustom to in Air Force One.  He will also retain a small group of loyalists to help him maintain his financial records as he “campaigns” and “fact finds” around the globe in a futile effort to make a dent in the half-billion plus he has to spend.

White liberals will be outraged, but wonÂ’t say much because it might be viewed as racist.  Blacks will celebrate the bold “fuck you, America” more than the O.J. verdict.

All this Democrat corruption stuff accomplishes nothing but to distract us from the key issue and what should be the key focus of this primary:  purging the GOP of RINOs.

I'd rather Democrats control everything forever than to have a RINO representing the Republican Party.  Simultaneously I reject establishment Republicans.  I want an outsider.  I want someone who'll never compromise.  I want someone who agrees 100% with what I say, because if you're not getting 100% of what you want in politics that means you're only losing slower.  Hell, geeks, politics is all about litmus tests, loyalty oaths and ideological purity.  That's why when this country was founded it was based upon all dissenting points of view being stamped out and crushed.

My purity of conservative stigma is leading me to support a Gingrich-Cain-Bachmann-Palin candidacy for the presidency in '12.

General Gingrich is my main man because he's a great debater and as anyone with a set of gonads knows the most important qualification for a presidential nominee is good debating skills.  Governor Cain is the man because I know the least bit about him and he's never held a government job.  To fix this rotten government of ours we need someone who has no government experience.  Senator Bachmann is my main lady because she don't tolerate them Mexican folk and she's had a bunch of kids.  Bachmann also taught that RINO Perry a lesson or two about what it means to be a true and pure conservative patriot.  Of course Saint Palin is my ultimate nominee.  When the going gets tough, punks, the truly tough get up and quit.

Step off, RINOs, because we'll not rest until we're a party of none.

Posted by: TheQuietMan at November 29, 2011 10:45 AM (1Jaio)

167 "The system really is very corrupt, isn't it?" It is. And it always has been, to some degree. Look at Senator George Washington Plunkitt's "Honest Graft and Dishonest Graft" philosophy. It's human nature to take advantage of opportunities. If you can rationalize your greed as coinciding with the public welfare (free health care!) then all the better. In the good ol' days, this only worked so far because the scope of each politician's dishonesty was limited. Senator Graft McStealy could push along a public works project and grab some cash and votes on insider information. But he and his pals couldn't sell 1/4 of the economy, because they didn't control it, and everyone knew that. "If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions." Sadly, our betters have turned off the auxiliary precautions. They get in the way of making the trains run on time.

Yes, it appears to be corrupt to the point that it's hard to understand how anyone on the outside from either side of the political spectrum with a speck of intelligence can have a lot of hope of  anything being "reformed". If they are this venal, do you trust them to do anything?

I could care less if it hurts Republicans too - this system needs desperately to be changed and these jerks need to be fired pronto, criminally charged if at all possible.

If it happens to spear more Democrats, fine, but this goes way beyond supporting a party or even an ideology.

I think this unfolding story could have legs and has the potential to enrage libs and conservatives. Question is will the MSM spike this, fearing it may bring hurt too many of their precious Democrats?
