54 I usually just lurk here but I have a few thoughts I've been mulling over since the election, if y'all don't mind me sharing. I remember back when Guiliani was mayor of NY there was some discussion about his methods for cleaning up the city, getting rid of crime and making it family friendly again. What he did in part was clean up the graffiti and prosecute the smaller crimes. The idea was that if you have an area that is a mess that no one gives respect to, crime will naturally gravitate there. Show respect for the city by enforcing a modicum of decency, crime will decrease or become at least easier to manage. I'd like to apply that to our current situation with the culture at large, a problem that most seem to agree needs addressing if conservatism is ever to gain strength. It amazes me that we have become so attuned to the idea of tolerance that we can accept a significant portion of the population literally mutilating their earlobes and we don't peep a word about it. Or weird piercings that cause you to stare, or graffiti all over their bodies. And yet we don't say a word. Does this lack of respect for the sensibilities of others and even one's own body not have an impact on our culture and our morals as a society? It used to be that a person would use their dress and behavior to show respect and manners for other people, that people tried to make themselves look their best not just out of vanity but to make others feel comfortable. Now the prevailing attitude is that people don't care if others may be disturbed or put off by their appearance, others are expected to suck it up so that people can show "individuality." It's not just the mutilating though, it's the wearing of pajamas to school or work, torn up jeans and otherwise slovenliness that is totally accepted. I don't know what the answer is, but if I was able to I would start a company where there are certain dress and grooming standards enforced, under the premise that how you dress and groom yourself influences both your own behavior and how others perceive you. Dressing and grooming well is simply good manners.

and then takes it up a notch with, "Don't worry about the Fed printing money."

and then he throws in, "Don't worry about the Bilderberg group."

and then, as his climactic finish, he screams, "Woooh, zombie apocalypse!"

No data plan, just text and voice for now. But pop the place on a wifi capable phone, and use wifi for data. Not perfect, but beats paying $100 / month

Oh, and wait until the ERATE (look it up if you want to feel sick) money + Obamaphone money depletes the service fund... either it goes up on all our phone bills or they just start paying for obamaphones from the fund. Like usual.

102 I don't know why brain eating has become synonymous with zombies.Only one zombie franchise ascribes brain eating to zombies,"The Return of The Living Dead" and it's sequels and remakes.Zombies eat human flesh,I suppose they'd even eat brains but I would think they'd eat the more accessible meat first. What,I should think about politics?

If I were a zombie, I'd go for the fat  and protein rich liver.  A couple of mouthfuls of sinew and muscle and you're there.  A zombie has to bit through bone and dura to get to the brain.  It just wouldn't be worth the trouble.

The tender muscle along the back would be tasty (and nourishing) too.

215 You know you're in for fun times when the first customer review you see of Best Of David Hasselhoff is this;

There is little doubt now that David Husselshaft is a major force in the music business these days. I've already been a fan for many years, but an amazing thing happened recently which I have to share. The doctor said my dog Cherish had only days to live. Desperate for any sign of recovery, I played this CD in the garage for him 24/7, and not only did my dog die, but so did 2 cats and all of my plants. My neighbor came down with a rare form of stomach virus, the one causes massive cramping and explosive diarrhea. Boy did I prove that doctor wrong!

The song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good.

237 They’re not messing around, almost 40 Shia Muslims were killed yesterday. (PressTV) — Thousands of Pakistani Shia Muslims are now receiving death threat text messages on their cellphones as pro-Taliban militants step up deadly campaign against the community members across the violence-ravaged country. “Kill, Kill, Shias,” say the text warnings to members of the community. The smear campaign comes a day after nearly 40 Shia Muslims were killed in three bomb attacks on religious gatherings in the southern port city of Karachi and the garrison city of Rawalpindi on Wednesday evening. Heavily armed militants have targeted several religious ceremonies commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) in different regions of Pakistan over the past week. Human rights groups say hundreds of Shia Muslims have been killed in the violence-hit country so far this year. Several citizens have expressed their deep concerns over the ongoing massacre and religious persecution of Shias across Pakistan. Good news. Hope they kill each other all the time

You can't mass troops and threaten to invade of 10 days. Sharon invaded the West Bank ASAP when he decided to do it and presented President Bush ( yes I know a different President altogether ) with a fait complete and then tightened the screws on Arafat. And especially with obama you act and act hard and fast. By dicking around at the border for 10 days, this was entirely predictable.

Morsi's power grab was going to happen sooner or later. And Obama's fluffing of him was also expected.

Gaza is not an existential threat, but Iran is. And Israel taking out most of Hamas' rocket arsenal now makes an attack on Iran safer for Israel. Iron Dome can be deployed specifically to deter Iranian theater missiles that are much more accurate.

It was a strategic miscalculation on Iran's part, even though the short-term moderate political victory is theirs.

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at November 23, 2012 05:34 PM (GsoHv) Iron Dome is really only for short range Missiles, not intercontinental. And yes i believe that main impetus for the "war" was to eliminate the FG 5 longer range ( 50 miles ) Iranian missiles from Gaza. But they should never have been allowed to be smuggled in to begin with and to trust Morsi to shut the spigot is well Disney Land stuff. But if the impetus was, as we both agree, to eliminate those missiles ( which they probably did from the air) why mobilize all those reservists and mass th armor and then back down? 308 You're misunderstanding Netanyahu's play here. He improved his position going into the Jan 22 election. He hasn't been able to muster the parliamentary support needed to hit Iran, and he hopes this election will do it. He gained an incremental benefit, smoked out more Iranian involvement, showed the technological prowess of drones & iron dome (hint: he showed that hezbollah can be thwarted without another ground war), and has forced the remainder of the debate to be on his terms. Mideast politics are very different than American politics. No one in the Mideast wants peace. Everyone wants to kill their enemies and get away with it. However they do have longer range missiles in Lebanon. And Iron Dome can only stop a certain percentage of the Missiles fired and there are nowhere enough Iron Dome batteries and will not be for a long long long time. Not to mention that the topography in Lebanon makes it much harder to hit and eliminate them from the air.

I think that Netanyahu played this about as well as he could have.  There was never a strong intent to invade Gaza.  That would be a tactical and propaganda morass.

Regardless of how careful the IDF was in Gaza, "civilians" would be killed in ground war.   It would have been really ugly. And to gain what?  Keep the Arabsl/Hamas/ Palestinians out?    Regardless of how many victories the Israelis have on the ground, the US, or the EU or the UN will make them give it back.  What is the point in expending the soldiers in the IDF if they have to give it back next year?

Egypt is falling apart financially, economically, politically. They can't feed themselves. This was all a charade to get a "cease fire" and allow Obama to get Congress to buy into his "peace plan" and fork over billions to keep the Egyptian crap game afloat.  As someone else wrote, the Egyptians don't have the logistic support to actually invade Israel, sustain their army in the field.  They will be fighting among themselves again shortly.  That's what Arabs do.  And Hamas will continue to take potshots at Israel, but Netanyahu is "hoping" that Morsi puts some kind of restraint on them - not much- but just lowering the intensity of the barrage.

Don't give the Arabs and Persians, Sunni and Shia,  a strong enough reason to unite, like fighting Israel .  Give them enough time and they will be fighting amongst themselves again.  That's what they do - their insane tribal feuding.

I think Netanyahu is trying to conserve their force and manpower against the day when it may actually get out of control and they have to fight to keep their borders secure  keep out the wild mobs of Arabs.  Until then, let the Arabs fight amongst themselves in Syria and Egypt.  If you give them enough time, the Arabs and Persians will be fighting each other.  Maybe the stupid Turks will join in.

Patience and restraint in this type  of "war" is the hardest notion to muster.  Netanyahu looks like a wimp, but he is trying to keep Israel secure in a world that is either uninterested one way or another or just wants the Jews to die and stop being a nuisance.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at November 23, 2012 06:04 PM (gVYZk)

I am disconnected from them in a profound sense. They are like remote royalty cavorting around and doing whatever. I have no interest because they do not have any relation to my life. Hating them not descriptive. They're just irrelevant to me - disdain is the best word to describe what I feel.

Oh, one more thing, I just want them to stay away from me. I would hate to be associated with them.
