He claims he's "unbelievably sorry."
And repentance is a valuable fu**in' thing.
Blagojevich will have to surrender Feb. 15. Under federal sentencing rules, Blagojevich will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence, or just under 12 years in prison, at a minimum. The ex-governor turns 55 on Saturday. The pronouncement of the sentence followed an emotional appeal from Blagojevich for leniency.
“I never set out to break the law,” said Blagojevich, who came to court Wednesday wearing a black suit with a silver tie. “The jury decided I was guilty, I am accepting of it, I acknowledge it.
“I have nobody to blame but myself for my stupidity and actions and the things I did and I thought I could do. I’m not blaming anybody.”
Cobloggers are saying this is the last time we'll see the Blago-Skull.
I say he's got more show in him.
I Missed This: Blago admitted he did the actions he's accused of, but did not know it was illegal to demand money for a Senate appointment.
While he apologized in the 19-minute speech that he delivered without paper in front of him, Blagojevich still said he did not know he was breaking the law. He told Zagel that he thought what he was doing was “permissible,” but that he was mistaken, and he “never set out to break the law.”

Not counting special accomodations, that is. And fourteen years in increased security residence is going to seem like a hell of a long, boring time.

Consecutive CNN Breaking News Posts:
Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison Wednesday for corruption convictions.
Ex-Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky has been arrested again on new child sex charges, Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly announced Wednesday. The move raises the total number of alleged victims to 10 people, according to a statement.
My question: Any chance on getting Jerry assigned as bunkmates to Rod? I'm thinking he likes short guys with lots of hair when seen from the back and Rod deserves all the "appreciation" an executive like Jerry could throw his way.

Jerry Sandusky (if convicted) will almost certainly not be placed in general population. As viscerally satisfying as it is, the DoJ doesn't really like writing "Buggered little boys" in the "Cause of Death" section of an autopsy/inquest.

Obama wouldn't pardon Ryan for at least two reasons: 1) he's a Republican, and 2) he's an old guy so he really should just be taking some pain medication until it's time for him to die. It's in the healthcare guidelines.

I don't think there's a question there. He *expected* the SCOAMF to refuse. At which point he could claim that Obama's testimony (not available) WOULD have provided his full exoneration with no refutation from his fellow democrats. The entire investigation would then have been viewed (by some) as a politically motivated witch hunt. (Which he initially claimed.)

"14 Years"
http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=4UI6kuFgEZ0
I try and feel the sunshine
You bring the rain
You try and hold me down
With your complaints
You cry and moan and complain
You whine an tear
Up to my neck in sorrow
The touch you bring
You just don't step inside to
14 years
So hard to keep my own head...
That's what I say
You know...I've been the beggar...
I've played the thief
I was the dog...they all tried to beat
But it's been
14 years of silence
It's been
14 years of pain
It's been
14 years that are gone forever
And I'll never have again
Your stupid girlfriends tell you
That I'm to blame
Well they're all used-up has-beens
Out of the game
This time I'll have the last word
You hear what I say
I tried to see it your way
It won't work today
You just don't step inside to
14 years
So hard to keep my own head...
That's what I say
You know...I've been the dealer...
Hangin' on your street
I was the dog...they all tried to beat
But it's been
14 years of silence
It's been
14 years of pain
It's been
14 years that are gone forever
And I'll never have again
Bullshit and contemplation
Gossip's their trade
If they knew half the real truth
What would they say
Well I'm past the point of concern
It's time to play
These last 4 years of madness
Sure put me straight
Don't get back 14 years
In just one day
So hard to keep my own head
Just go away
You know...just like a hooker she said
Nothin's for free
Oh I tried to see it your way
I tried to see it your way
