Borrowing Now At 100% of GDP
— Ace

To quote Princess Leia, "When you came in here, did you have a plan for getting out?"

And Moody's says that a downgrade is coming unless this ludicrous situation is corrected. They want it down to 73% by 2015.

It was just 32.5%

US debt shot up $238 billion to reach 100 percent of gross domestic project after the government's debt ceiling was lifted, Treasury figures showed Wednesday.

Treasury borrowing jumped Tuesday, the data showed, immediately after President Barack Obama signed into law an increase in the debt ceiling as the country's spending commitments reached a breaking point and it threatened to default on its debt.

The new borrowing took total public debt to $14.58 trillion, over end-2010 GDP of $14.53 trillion, and putting it in a league with highly indebted countries like Italy and Belgium.

Obama's claim is always that this is Bush's fault.

Let's stipulate big chunks of it are Bush's fault.

But Obama did not run on a platform of "Bush's Third Term."

He ran on a platform of correcting Bush's mistake.

Instead, he's compounded them, tripled them.

5 I expected this and remarked on it today. The question is, who did they borrow from?

Most likely the government borrowed it from the fed by selling the fed T-Bills. IOW they simply printed the money and called it a loan.

The road to collapse is shorter now.

46 38 Time for some more dark song lyrics.
ThereÂ’s a man goinÂ’ Â’round takinÂ’ names.

AnÂ’ he decides who to free and who to blame.
Everybody wonÂ’t be treated all the same.
ThereÂ’ll be a golden ladder reaching down.
When the man comes around.

The hairs on your arm will stand up.
At the terror in each sip and in each sup.
For you partake of that last offered cup,
Or disappear into the potterÂ’s ground.
When the man comes around.

Hear the trumpets, hear the pipers.
One hundred million angels singinÂ’.
Multitudes are marching to the big kettle drum.
Voices callinÂ’, voices cryinÂ’.
Some are born anÂ’ some are dyinÂ’.
ItÂ’s AlphaÂ’s and OmegaÂ’s Kingdom come.

And the whirlwind is in the thorn tree.
The virgins are all trimming their wicks.
The whirlwind is in the thorn tree.
ItÂ’s hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

Till Armageddon, no Shalam, no Shalom.
Then the father hen will call his chickens home.
The wise men will bow down before the throne.
And at his feet theyÂ’ll cast their golden crown.
When the man comes around.

Whoever is unjust, let him be unjust still.
Whoever is righteous, let him be righteous still.
Whoever is filthy, let him be filthy still.
Listen to the words long written down, When the man comes around.

Hear the trumpets, hear the pipers.
One hundred million angels singinÂ’.
Multitudes are marchinÂ’ to the big kettle drum.

In measured hundredweight and penny pound.
When the man comes around.

And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts,
And I looked and behold: a pale horse.
And his name, that sat on him, was Death.
And Hell followed with him.

86 "Walk With Me In Hell" Pray for blood, Pray for the cleansing, Pray for the flood, Pray for the end of this nightmare. This lie of a life can as quickly as it came dissolve. We seek only reprieve and welcome the darkness. The myth of a meaning so lost and forgotten (forgotten). Take hold of my hand, For you are no longer alone. Walk with me in hell. Pray for solace, Pray for resolve, Pray for a savior, Pray for deliverance, some kind of purpose. A glimpse of a light in this void of existence. Now witness the end of an age. Hope dies in hands of believers. Who seek the truth in the liar's eye. Take hold of my hand, For you are no longer alone. Walk with me in hell. Walk with me in hell [x5] Take hold of my hand, For you are no longer alone. Walk with me in hell [x3] You're never alone [x5] Walk with me in hell.

Oblahblah is like that vapid, popular kid who ran for class president just for the title on a bunch of ridiculous promises he could never fulfill.  As the school year has progressed, the idiots that voted him in are finally coming to the realization that they are still doing homework, they still have to take tests, their grades are still the same, the school day is still the same length, and the food in the cafeteria still sucks.

They also come to the realization that the nerdy, unpopular kid would have actually made a better president even though he didn't promise them all kinds of crap.  He would have actually gone to all the meetings, helping with all the fundraising, and they would actually be having a prom.  Instead, the class president took the money that was suppose to be used for a downpayment on the prom venue and blew it on keggers (which only the popular kids were invited to).

Thanks a lot you 52% mofos, thanks a lot!

89 Trade some dollars for nickles!

"This is your last chance to protect yourself from Dollar weakening (and perhaps Dollar destruction) by merely saving your money in the right form. No premiums attached! Just go to the bank and exchange whatever Dollars and cents you have for nickels. They will give you 100% of your money back in nickel form without taking a cut.

Go to any bank right now and hand them $100 and ask for nickels. The teller will gleefully give you back about $135 in metal (as of this writing). We suggest you do this as regularly as you can."

100 "This Day We Fight!" For this I was chosen because I fear nothing With confidence I tread through the dead of the night Off to another war torn, far away battlefield Wherein lies a daemonic enemy horde On this day I decide to anoint my fists Engaging them in the mode of power and war Stopping at nothing that's short of fulfilling my destiny Willing to die and I will, after you for what I believe [Solo - Chris] A desperate avenger striking fear in their hearts Invading their dreams before the day even starts [Solo - Dave] Whet whit your blood, I sharpen my sword No turning the other cheek like a coward Come tomorrow I may lay down and die But not this day Sent on an unholy quest, to reduce all those who resist To the size of their shriveled up souls and scatter them like grist I vanquished the strangeholds that the netherworld sets for me The last request of my life is to die killing my enemies [Solo - Chris] Bathed in blood up to the horses' bridle Its death to retreat, there's no chance of survival [Solo - Dave] Whet whit your blood, I sharpen my sword No turning the other cheek like a coward Come tomorrow I may lay down and die But not this day, this day we fight! This day we fight! Strip the fallen heroes, finish off the wounded Collect the spoils of war and send them back dead [Solo - Dave] [Solo - Chris] [Solo - Dave] This day we fight! This day I fight!

This is the argument that I've been using on my libtard friends/family/acquaintances since almost day 1 of Zero's term. The response has evolved from "give him time" to "Bush was worse than we thought" to "Well, you didn't complain when Bush did it" to "Shut up, racist". Cognitive Dissonance doesn't begin to describe the O-bot mind, they are in full-blown Bizzaro world mode.

He ran on a platform of correcting Bush's mistake. Instead, he's compounded them, tripled them. Just because Obama claims that doesn't mean it's true, so we don't need to "stipulate." For the bulk of Bush's term, the economy was growing at a greater rate than the debt. You finance debt for things that will give you a greater return. You don't run up the tab splurging on party time and then wonder why you can't get seconds.

(The) Never ending search for your shattered sanity, Souls of Damnation in their own reality. Chaos rampant, An age of distrust. Confrontations. Impulsive habitat. Bastard sons begat your cunting daughters, Promiscuous mothers with your incestuous fathers. Engreat souls condemned for all eternity, Obtained by immoral observance a domineering deity. By the way, I think that the "borrowing 100% of GDP" phrasing obfuscates what is going on.

I think it is clearer this way:

We are spending double what we are bringing in.

But we will see default regardless. When the bills come due.

How do you repay all the borrowing when it would take all of the GDP?  How do you stop hyperinflation when the interest on all of the borrowed money goes up?  We're looking at an event not unlike a lump of Uranium 235 going supercritical.

Here is an outstanding citizen of Seattle who is running for the school board this year. His name is David Blomstrom. Quite a guy huh?

An economic train wreck, endless war, our latest fascist pResident, environmental ruin - from the Gulf Coast oil spill to JapanÂ’s ongoing nuclear meltdown to the genetically modified food Bill Gates so adores...where will it all end? Can we fight back?

Hell yes!

You roll up your sleeves and start fighting in your backyard. ItÂ’s called grassroots reform or, if youÂ’re really serious, revolution.

Children need to be protected from the Gates Foundation, First AME Church, King County Demopublicans, military recruiters seeking unemployed idiots to help rape, torture and murder Muslims and steal their natural resources, and an army of other corporate scum. And even if you donÂ’t care about children, do you want the Seattle School District to continue embezzling and wasting millions of dollars? Do you care about your property taxes?

Freedom fighters in Iraqistan have committed suicide in protecting their children from the trailer park trash and sex predators who find a safe haven in the U.S. military. So why canÂ’t Seattleites take a stand against the corporate predators that run Seattle and its increasingly privatized public schools?

I worked for the Seattle School District for sixteen years and have been a political activist since 1995. IÂ’ve run for public office before; IÂ’m the only candidate who snubs endorsement interviews with the corporate media, which include the Seattle Weekly and The Stranger.

Politics may be sleazy, but it can also be intriguing, even entertaining. If you like whodunits, detective stories and conspiracy theory - or if youÂ’re just looking for simple facts about Seattle Schools, Inc. - check out my campaign at www.seattle-mafia.org. Remember: Knowledge is power.

In solidarity with the left-wing visionaries who are transforming Latin America, Greek protesters, and the freedom fighters sticking it to Team USA in Iraqistan and Libya, viva la revolucion!

I love that one. Somehow the left has written the rightwing revolt against the Republicans for Shamnesty and Medicare Part D out of the history books.

As well as the rejection of Harriet Meiers (?) for SCOTUS, among other things. They seem to think that we were as enthralled with Bush as they are with Zero. Most of the time, especially in his 2nd term, I supported Bush only because of the level of insanity that the left brought against him.

usdebtclock is where it always was. I check it often. They had two clocks, one tracking where we were with the debt limit and the main one tracking the US National Debt which is almost at $14.57 Trillion. Only $14.298 Trillion of the debt was subject to the debt ceiling.

Rapture of the dying age, a shattered hourglass Wrath of the warring gods and so this too shall pass. An ill wind blows this way, the edge of the envelope burns Forbearance and my vengeance, payment for you intent Fear and death in the wings, in thrall of those fallen from grace Petty is as petty does, witness the mass disgrace. God forbid you read the signs, watch for meanings between the lines Gehenna has now arrived, no hindsight for the blind. Your trust has been misplaced, believed the lies told to your face Became another casualty and now it's too late. You finally made it home, draped in the flag that you fell for. And so it goes The a shes of the wake. It's only getting worse...

165 THE FUTURE

Give me back my broken night
my mirrored room, my secret life
it's lonely here,
there's no one left to torture

Give me absolute control
over every living soul
And lie beside me, baby,
that's an order!

Give me crack and careless sex
Take the only tree that's left
and stuff it up the hole
in your culture

Give me back the Berlin Wall
give me Stalin and St Paul
I've seen the future, brother:
it is murder.

Things are going to slide, slide in all directions
Won't be nothing
Nothing you can measure anymore
The blizzard, the blizzard of the world
has crossed the threshold
and it has overturned
the order of the soul

When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant

You don't know me from the wind
you never will, you never did
I'm the little Jew
who wrote the Bible
I've seen the nations rise and fall
I've heard their stories, heard them all
but love's the only engine of survival

Your servant here, he has been told
to say it clear, to say it cold:
It's over, it ain't going any further
And now the wheels of heaven stop
you feel the devil's riding crop
Get ready for the future:
it is murder

Things are going to slide ...

There'll be the breaking of the ancient
western code
Your private life will suddenly explode
There'll be phantoms
There'll be fires on the road
and the white man dancing

You'll see your woman
hanging upside down
her features covered by her fallen gown
and all the lousy little poets
coming round
tryin' to sound like Charlie Manson
and the white man dancin'

Give me back the Berlin Wall
Give me Stalin and St Paul
Give me Christ
or give me Hiroshima
Destroy another fetus now
We don't like children anyhow
I've seen the future, baby:
it is murder

Things are going to slide ...

When they said REPENT REPENT ...

Bush's approval ratings, which they were sooooo in love with citing, included losing a large portion of his base. He would have stayed in the 30s if he'd kept his base, but they don't want to think about that.

And the Democrats wouldn't have taken Congress in 2006 if not for dissatisfied R voters staying home.

This instant jump in the debt was caused by unwinding all the accounting tricks masking the increase in debt since they nominally hit the ceiling on May 16th.

From May 16th to Aug 1, debt subject to limit stayed constant at $14.293975T, just $25M of the limit. However, normal borrowing via T auctions continued as normal. They were hiding that increase in debt simply by employing accounting tricks with the civil service retirment funds (which is allowed by law), which amounted to swapping debt that counted toward the limit for debt that did not. We called them "IOU^2", that is, IOUs for IOUs.

Now the ceiling was raised, they unwound all those tricks and the true debt becomes visible. The Aug 2 deadline came from when those accounting tricks would run out.

185 Oh, and pray tell, what is the Hope VI Program? Is that a new Obama thing? Posted by: runningrn at August 03, 2011 09:28 PM (jfHyQ) I actually know this one! HOPE VI is another one of those supposed-to-be-temporary HUD programs that got started in the Bush I years. (Don't blame Bush, he fought it but the Dem Congress forced it through in an appropriations bill, back in the day when we had things called Budgets) It was intended to provide some one-time grants to help local public housing agencies tear down their shitty ghetto towers and replace them with smaller scale housing. A lot of the money went to good use, but as usual the grants were gamed and handed out to politically connected people and developers, especially after the Clintons arrived. And it spawned an entire industry of grantwriters and consultants. I briefly worked for one of those consultants. The problem is now this program is about 20 years old and all of the worst projects have been redone, but Congress still wants those ribbons to cut and all those HUD bureaucrats to keep their jobs. So it keeps getting funded and the money goes to smaller and smaller projects, that the locals probably could have funded themselves through bond issues. There are hundreds, and hundreds, and hundreds of legacy programs like this throughout the federal government. They add up to hundreds of billions of dollars, and pretty much nobody would notice if they were all zeroed out.

197 You have to blame Reagan at least as much as GWB. Federal debt was 900B in 1980. By the time he left office it was 2.6 trillion. Reagan embraced deficit spending, (average annual deficits tripled) and we've never stopped since. It's almost impossible to imagine that during the Carter recession there was only a $40B annual deficit. Now it's over a trillion a year. It's a pity that the only thing our political parties ever agree on is to spend more and more every year.
