Breaking: Mitch McConnell Will Offer ObamaCare Repeal This Afternoon
— DrewM

Follow through.

Confirmed: McConnell will offer repeal bill today as amdt to FAA legislation

That's from NRO's Robert Costa.

A couple of things...

It will probably be ruled out of order since ObamaCare isn't germane to the FAA bill. But they'll be a vote on that, which McConnell and the Republicans will lose but it will be a proxy vote for everyone's stand.

Still, it's a great follow up to yesterday's court decision and keeps the ball moving forward politically. Plus, it will just piss off the Democrats.

Also it's a great sign that Republicans are serious about this and will use every opportunity they have to talk about the jobs killing plan and force Democrats to defend it.

You want to know if the Republicans got 'the message' of November? Here's another sign they did.

Question:  why, exactly, is it not being introduced as its own bill?  Why must it be an amendment to some random bill?

If the republicans control the House, can't they just start a new bill there?

4 2012 election begins with this vote.

5 Obama, maybe you can save yourself by asking your Cabinet to resign.

Posted by: t-bird at February 01, 2011 09:33 AM (FcR7P)

6 Does it match the one passed in the House, or this one of their deals where if it manages to pass, it goes to conference before Obama's desk?

Also, I've been wondering, would it be helpful to the lawsuits to pass 'sense of the' House and/or Senate resolutions declaring Obamacare unconstitutional?

7 Question:  why, exactly, is it not being introduced as its own bill?

Er, because Republicans are not in the majority in the Senate?

Posted by: navybrat at February 01, 2011 09:35 AM (09z7A)

8 I believe unanomous consent is required to have the bill go to a Committee, where it would die.  A question would be: does at least one Republican Senator need to be around to keep Harry Reid from applying this Senate Rule?

What is being added is the repeal bill which passed the House.

As to why they couldn't introduce it, the Senate Majority Leader determines the calendar of what will be voted on.  This was the only way the minority could get it to a vote.

10 Posted by: dan-O at February 01, 2011 01:32 PM (bRLuD)

Just because the House passes a bill doesn't mean the Senate has to take it up. Pelosi passed over 400 bills that never saw the light of day in the Senate.

Reid controls access to the floor (another reason why majorities matter). This is the only way the minority can get something brought up.

11 I believe that McConnell is introducing H.R. 1 to the Senate, as opposed to one of his own.

Posted by: John P. Squibob at February 01, 2011 09:36 AM (/U/Mr)

12 How about that. I had my doubts about McConnell, and did not think the Stupid Party had the brains, guts or balls to really go after a repeal of O-care. You ever had a project you really worked hard on and it came to nothing, and you feel totally drained when it's over? I sure hope Pelosi feels like crap right now. Flying monkeys, take her back to Sodom by the Bay.

If she lives in a state that allows diabetics to be refused individual policies, she needs to take that up with her state, not with Congress (although petitioning Congress to remove the asinine "no policies across state lines" bullshit could work, too).

This is now a full-blown Constitutional Crisis.  The Executive's willful, intentional and publicly-stated refusal to honor a declaratory judgment is an open act of willful and intentional violation of The Separation of Powers in The Constitution and, if combined with the use of or threat of use of force as is always present when government coercion is employed, treads awfully close to the line, and may cross it, of 18 USC Ch 115 Sec 2384

I'll join the BS on Kelly chorus.  Type II diabetes is non-insulin-dependent diabetes, and can usually be managed with diet and exercise.

Type I is the insulin-injection, Wilford Brimley diabeet-us diabetes.  That's the one you REALLY don't want to have.

There's also a big difference between non-coverage of a pre-existing medical condition, and not issuing coverage at all.  People with pre-existing medical conditions get health insurance all the time.  There may be exclusions or waiting periods for the pre-existing condition, though.

Indy is doing a really good job with getting ahead of the weather.. since the Superbowl is here next year, they want to show we can handle the weather.

98 Type 2 diabetes is nature's way of saying you need to lose weight.

Or that you're old.  My grandfather has always been slight, and developed it around age 85.

Of course, Obamacare would have prevented this by letting him die when he was 75 instead of letting him have a bypass.

103

Question:  why, exactly, is it not being introduced as its own bill?  Why must it be an amendment to some random bill?

.

It's simple. . . By the inaction of FAA personnel to purchase health insurance, it in essence creates an action (inaction =1 / action) in the eyes of the Commerce Clause.  So. . . by introducing the repeal amendment and attaching it to the FAA reauthorization bill you get the following equation:

Action = (Inaction) X (1 / Action)

Now if you solve for the derivative of Y . . .

Posted by: Hippie Dude

Drivers do not have to buy auto insurance, automobile owners buy auto insurance. Those who do not own a car do not pay auto insurance.

The State is able to mandate that you purchase auto insurance to drive on State maintained roads. But if your vehicle does not go on State maintained roads, auto insurance is not needed. Example, NASCAR race cars are not required to maintain auto insurance.

Actually, health costs will increase if "everyone" is covered. You see there is a simple economic concept called "supply and demand". As the demand increases, the supply decreases. When that happens, the price goes up. Since there is already a shortage of health care professionals in this country, the increased demand will cause the price to go up. The government's "fix" is to set the costs. This in turn will cause doctors to leave the system, meaning fewer doctors, which in turn will lead to fewer patients being able to see the doctor. Thus, the supply will decrease, and there will be a rise in the price.

lets do a thought experiment.

My "pursuit of happiness" is to be in a world surrounded by big tits.

So the government should mandate all women to have big tits, but don't worry, they will subsidize that by taxing other women who already have them so its all gravy, and they will protect my "right" to a pursuit of happiness by telling women with big tits they cannot hack their god-crafted breasts off because of back pain.

You see the utter selfishness and stupidity of this? (Actually besides the DDtax it would be pretty awesome) This was the point of the SD proposal on guns. If the government can mandate your behavior through forced purchase on something you agree with they certainly can do it on something you disagree with. It is a bad precedent.

The selfishness in the HC debate is NOT on the side of the majority that has it. It is on the minority that DEMANDS they get something they didn't qualify or pay for just because they are sick and someone else should pay for their misfortune. They don't care. They are sick, and they have special illnesses, and we all have to bend over backwards for them.

175 Then we're boned.  It was a 7-2 decision.

Not necessarily boned, but let's just say that it would be a big mistake to rely upon the court to overturn Obamacare.  The way we're going to do it is through legislative action with a GOP president in 2013.

Which is why I care so fucking much about electing as many Republicans as possible to the Senate and choosing a Presidential candidate that gives us a real shot at winning.  That's the only way out.

he's the most popular politician in Massachusetts right now despite being a Republican who has voted with us on everything that matters.

I'm so glad we have you to determine what matters.

Could you imagine if I got to call the shots about what matters to me? It would be chaos. I'd be liable to vote for a libertarian.

Oh wait... I DO vote for libertarians.

FYNQ.

179 A good friend of mine has type II Diabetes. No insurance company will cover her. This should not be a political issue to get her the coverage she needs, but instead you people just want to say no and use this for some political advantage. Obama will make sure my friend gets the help she needs regardless of you Republicants.

Posted by: Kelly at February 01, 2011 01:39 PM (cs819)

I was getting teary eyed reading your friend's story.  Then I realized it's bullshit. The truth is you, your friend, me, and everyone else is responsible for their own health and medical coverage. I have had Type I diabetes for 26 years, and my insurance company gladly provides coverage for my medication, pump supplies, doctor visits, and if necessary hospitalization.  There are plenty of insurance plans available to diabetics.  All you need to do is pay the premium not beg others to pay it for you.

Just like we diabetics must sacrifice and make lifestyle changes to maintain their blood sugar levels and their health, we must sacrifice to pay our insurance premiums.  If a type one diabetic of 26 years such as myself can get and keep medical coverage so can your friend.  It's all a matter of what your priority is and what you choose to spend your money on.

Nice try though...

180 Temps been steadily dropping dropping the front blew through here early this morning.  Inside temps been declining too and the heater just clicked on to maintain a minimally comfortable 64.  I fear the heater will not stop running until next week.

They vote with us on piddling, useless shit like repealing ObamaCare

Which hasn't happened yet. I'm not sure but I don't think these Grade A's are gonna sprout 12 chickens if I leave them in the fridge too long.

Besides...

or stopping the omnibus spending bill,

Yes thank god they stopped that! Oh wait... they didn't.

Imagine if we only had 41 Jim DeMints, what would they have done, fillibuster it? Well.. yes. Yes they would have.

Empirically speaking 41 DeMints would have done more for you than 51 or 55 75 of your average republican on the TARP and the porkulus.

Same goes for OBAMACARE. Thank god they're voting to repeal it in a symbolic bill that everyone knows will not pass. After they let O-Care pass in the first place.

Fact: 49 republicans, or for that matter 55 republicans, often fail to do what 41 conservatives could be relied upon to.

REPEAL OBAMACARE?

A country with a permanent minority of 41 Jim DeMints and Rand Pauls is a country that will never have socialized medicine in the first place.

or shooting down the DREAM Act...

Which half of those goobers you're talking about started the push for under Bush. When they do nothing for you, you excuse their incompitence and credit them anyway for trying, but when they actively try to harm you and fail, you excuse their incompitence and don't discredit them for trying.

Do you ever wonder why our 'betters' are all incompitent fools?

Obama is really the root of the problem suffered by Kelly's friend. I blame the Skittles. She needs to get the Unicorns out of the house, stat.

Teh funny! I recall the Oregon Health Plan chose to buy blenders for its supplicants because they were cheaper than a new set of chompers.

184 Now with the solar powered blenders, its even more better than before.
