After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order. There's more at the link.My decision is based upon a review of what common sense Conservatives and Independents have accomplished, especially over the last year. I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office – from the nation’s governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency. We need to continue to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the “fundamental transformation” of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based on the rule of law.

They will NOT go to Romney so I would say some kind of split between Cain and Perry.

This is good, even though I know its tough for her supporters. But she can and I think will be very very effective for our side.
I still hate the media for what they did to her, but they created a monster that can eat them alive.

Hmmmm.
I have my suspicions that she would have run had the field thinned more. With Romney, Perry, & Cain in strong contention at this late point she might well have determined that the filing deadline would pass before any of those three would fall sufficiently behind...and she could swoop in and take their place.

And even if Cain doesn't fully implode, he's got to be an even more undesirable candidate from the establishment's perspective, and will in any event eventually gaffe his way back out of orbit. Plus, he can't even come close to Romney and Perry's cash and organization.
Perry needs to recognize what a gifts he's been handed lately, and get his shit together in the upcoming financial date. And I ain't just whistling Dixie.

As for Sarah, I am sure she did pray about it, and I am sure she did the right thing. She will be helpful behind the scenes, and her opinion and endorsement will be important. She, no doubt, realizes that getting the proper senators and representatives elected is very important. A conservative congress is essential for whoever is president.

Newt is entertaining going after the media in the debates, but that doesn't seem all that important at this point.

Johnson. Who? Why? What? Part deux
Santorum. Needs to relax. Take a breather.
And poor Buddy Roemer didn't even get a damn chance. All this attention on we'll she or won't she Palin, and he had actually committed to run, and wasn't even given one stinking debate to prove himself.

No, it won't be. That sort of an outcome isn't possible in GOP primaries anymore, only Democratic ones. The parties have diverged onto very different paths for choosing the nomination since 1972. Because the horrible McGovern experience (where -- this hurts to say but the analogy is pretty exact -- a liberal analogue of the Tea Party seized the primaries and foisted George McGovern upon the Democratic party, leading to biggest blowout in American history), the Democratic Party instituted the practice of having a certain percentage of all convention delegates be unpledged "superdelegates," party 'inside-men' who were pledged to no candidate and had the latitude to swing the nomination to the more electable one at a convention should it come to a choice like that. (The ability of the Obama campaign team to run a media and psychological blitz gaming this system is precisely what gave him the close win over Hillary.)
In the GOP, however, the vast majority of delegates show up to the convention already pledged. There are no more 'back room deals' possible for our party. Unless it's an actual TIE numerically, you'll know who the nominee is going to be.

And frankly, if it is Mitt vs. Chauncey Gardner in the general then I am staying home. I don't see a bit of difference between those two fucks except in the rhetoric they use to get in office. Once he is in, Mitt will fuck us over good and hard and he will side with anyone but the Tea Partiers.
But let's face it. Palin could prove Fermat's Last Theorem, field strip a rifle while wearing a blindfold and hit every note of Martern aller Arten all while waiting her turn in the debate and the press would just point at her and yell "stupid" then giggle amongst themselves at how very clever they are.
But the fact that we let them get away with defaming Palin means we empowered them to do it to anyone else they please. Perry has been getting a little taste of that lately.

Anyone running for President, who after ten years of warfare in Afghanistan, says that he'll assess the issue and put forward his ideas AFTER TAKING OFFICE is not a serious person. I wouldn't trust him with the button any more that I trust you know who at the moment.

He won't do it. Cain seems to dislike Perry on a pretty basic level, but not Romney. I have no idea why, but his "I won't endorse/support Perry" statement alluded to multiple reasons he disapproved of Perry aside from the tuition waiver issue.
I wouldn't say it was a "plan" at the outset, but my feeling is that Cain is now merely a spoiler for Romney looking for an appointment of some sort.

I think a "Flaming Boots" logo would be appropriate.
I've supported Sarah Palin since Summer 2008, I still view her quite favorably, but I think she chose the only action she could.
At best, the MSM will never giver her an honest interview; at worst, they will continue to dog her. I'm not sure why; my guess is that Sarah Palin, a Republican, achieved, by Summer 2008, if not before, Every Single Thing on the Feminazi agenda ... and more ... by age 45(?), and the Eastern Liberal/Prog Self-Appointed Elite (the profile, not just the location) hate her for this ... essentially to the point of violence.
But I think Sarah Palin reaches Middle-America quite well. I think that some campaign support this coming Summmer for the R nominee will help substantially.
Too bad she made money from her books. Now, the various activists who have heckled her (and worse), and the investigative fabulists who profess to write books about her (and, more importantly, their publishers) now have to worry about wrath and deserved punishment descending upon them ( and at least hurting their bank accounts severely).

For all those that think that it's so freaking funny, go ahead and laugh and say I told you so, but you really have no idea how crucial the tea party is, without them we would not have won the last congressional election. So laugh it up now, but people are really sick and tired of voting for the same old shit every 4 years. I for one am tired of the media choosing for me. I reallly have no idea who I will vote for, I'm not overwhelmed with anyone currently in the field. Can anyone here say they are excited about any of the current candidates, or are they just choosing once again based on who they think can win?

Oh, please. That was pretty mild criticism. It's not as though I'm dancing on her grave after a tragic accident. A non-candidate is still a non-candidate.
How do you think that guy in Iowa who's been roaming the state on his own dime after taking leave from work to support her as a future candidate feels after all this? Her PAC sent out solicitations for money under the guise of helping her to make her decision- I doubt those who donated under the belief that she'd run will get refunds.
Maybe she was genuinely undecided, but given that she didn't have other important commitments like running a state to think about, her actions leading up to this have not at all reflected well upon her in my opinion. At worst she just confirmed the worst suspicions that critics like myself have had about her.

We either hang together or hang separately.
We have to form the line, touch elbows, and advance right the fuck to the White House.
No more race-baiting, no more loonies, and no more back-biting.
Bachmann, Johnson, Santorum, and Paul and Huntsman - get out
Newt, get out. Go write a book about Gorebull Warming during the Civil War.
Perry -sack up and get your shit together. Learn to think and speak in 30 second intervals. If we can do it here, you can do it. Your a fucking Governor of Texas, sound like it or go home. More Buford T Justice and less Stumbles McBike Path.
Cain - You're the black guy in the race. We get it. We don't care. Stop rising to the bait every time and giving the MFM more ammo to beat conservatives over the head with. You are a great candidate when you shut up with the race shit. The next time Joy Behar shits out of her yap about how bad the GOP is to blacks, maybe you could actually argue. You watch your ass take the lead if you follow my advice.
Romney: Stop being Bill Clinton.

At this point he stood to lose the most. I have no idea why he would want to lose the support he has left by introducing another NotRomney who is a lot more popular with the base than he.

To my knowledge, no one here has ever referred to Sarah as a cunt. I can't speak for everyone obviously (or really anyone but myself), but my sense is that most of us here love her as a person and recognize she got screwed over badly by the media; nonetheless we don't want her blowing up our chance to beat Obama. It's not a personal thing, it's a political thing. Now ... a MILF and a cocktease? Well, let's go to the record shall we?
In any event, the bottom line is that like Ron Paul, a Palin presidency just wasn't going to happen. Not now, not ever. I know you Nistas are hurting, but this really is for the best. Now, let's go get an ice cream, OK?

The objections to Newt are all about what he says or who he appears with to court the center (Well, the Scozzafava fiasco was a huge mistake in judgment--Newt obviously thought Party over Conservatism and didn't get that the Tea Party has fundamentally changed all that. Hope he learned his lesson. That would be a good question to ask him at a debate).
He is clearly trying to build a constituency in the center and rehabilitate his media image of "The Grinch" with the Indies with pretty much harmless crap like appearing with Sharpton and Pelosi (the Indies are always whining about partisanship). He understands and articulates the conservative cause better than just about any public figure.
I think with a Republican Congress, he'd be fine. I don't think he'd fall into the comfortable cronyism of the DeLay-Bush years with a bunch of Young Turks to keep him honest. But, yes, it's a risk. But not as much as a risk with Crazy Uncle Paul.
Romney, on the other hand, is as phoney as Moochelle's trip to Target.

For those worried about a Romney presidency
1. Obama is worse than any RINO. I am pretty much resigned that my perfect candidate does not exist. I will take what I can get as long as Obama is out.
2. Cage the RINO by keeping the House and turning the Senate GOP and conservative. For example, do you think Romney has the balls to veto a House and Senate repeal of Obamacare? I would have that bill on his desk before they take the little flags off the inaugural limo. "Gee Mr. President, how do you think your Presidency will work out if you veto this?" Time to take some of the wheels off the imperial presidency.
3. Get more conservatives in State legislatures and governorships. The states are the last line of defense against this bullshit. Time to get them ready.

Except now the delegates are mostly there because it's "their turn" and then tend to pick RINOs like themselves (we havea group in Washington state called "Maintstream Republicans" who tend to run stuff. They are mainstream like the media is mainstream).

Personality cults are so creepy.
The awesomeness we saw in 2008 was from a woman who knew the message, was able to articulate it, and looked good doing it. We saw her family, and that spoke to her character. She also had some accomplishments as chief executive at the local and state levels. What's not to like and respect?
Since then, I've seen nothing to negate any of these attributes. However, instead of preparing herself to top the ticket in 2012, she did a cable TV show, and her daughter had a baby and a nasty break-up with a dirtbag boyfriend which kept Sarah's name on the covers of tabloids for more than a year. I still like Sarah Palin (a lot) but at some point during the last three years it became obvious to me that she was never going to become president.
Some people's admiration turned into adoration, and they must be disappointed right now. To those people, I can only suggest that they stop being fans of politicians. (And to the most enthusiastic of them: really, it can get kind of creepy.) Support them, but be fans of athletes and entertainers instead. Follow their careers and cheer them on. But don't do that for Sarah Palin or people in her line of work. The good ones don't need to be cheered on. They need to be guided by the people they aim to serve.

I'm just amazed at the sheer idiocy of it. There are voters like me who've donated to Sarah's Pac, my wife donated as well, and heck she's democrat still. And while I don't think Palin would have won the repub nomination, my wife and I have a tremendous amount of respect for her for rallying the base, finally defining and crystallizing what conservatism was about, my wife and I were reagan dems.
And this dumb ass posting over there, this gloating, this rubbing salt into the wounds for staunch Palin supporters. Just stunning, is that (redstate) a very popular site with conservatives?

1. The Republican Establishment secretly wants to lose to avoid responsibility for an inevitable collapse.
2. But the establishment is also secretly dictating the nominee, who will be Romney, and who probably appeals the most to Indies, who decide the election.
3. And the Republican Establishment can once again be assured that Conservatives will pull the R lever, because the President is a SCOAMF.
Sure, sounds like a losing strategy to me--for the TEA PARTY.

You've gotta be kidding me. Romney is, and always has been, a stiff humorless politician. He can't banter. He can't joke. And he does not know how to attack and follow up. Obama will actually look strong compared to him.
I'm sorry, but I disagree. Romney is incredibly polished, has command of the facts, can talk policy in-depth, and rarely makes unforced errors.
And he's a far better liar than our other candidates.
And no, that's not a knock, actually.
I don;t like or trust the man, but he's a far better debater than, say, Perry, who I really want to support, but who keeps stumbling and bumbling through answers while squinting his eyes in a manner that reminds me WAY to much of George W.

But it was clear that the MSM had done its work only too well; and she was unelectable to high office. Further, in the years of the Obama administration, she gadded around on television, rather than preparing herself personally for a run at high office.
Should an R win in 2012, and that is by no means a slam dunk, since the MSM and the Dems (BIRM) will pull out all the stops to keep their Teleprompter Jesus in office), she would make a terrific Secretary of Energy. If she does that job well, and I see no reason why she couldn't, that would position her well for a run eight or twelve years down the road. After all, she has 20 good years ahead of her. And as Secretary of Energy, she'd give the libtards apoplexy, which would amuse me to no end.
Anyway, all the best, Mama Grizzly!

His innovation in computation, specifically the keyboard/monitor interface first seen on the Apple 1 became the form to which all other personal computers were cut.
Consumer electronics is what allows us to deplete the power of elitist information brokers concerned with consolidating power through control of knowledge.
His line of computers undoubtedly ushered IBMs entry into the market they otherwise thought was worthless.

i know it is off topic, however, the hippies are on the move in force. Seriously, there are thousands meandering through lower manhattan; a few hippies and lots and lots of union thugs.
Since 2001, there's been an incredible amount of security in New York. Everywhere, really, but especially NYC, where every imaginable agency has been making plans and doing exercises.
This may turn into a Paris Commune– or Munich Beer Hall–type thing, but it won't happen in New York.

659 Truman....is there a reason for your moniker?
In the same vein that people have added Tea Party Terrorist and so forth to their names, I added my ironic suffix to remind us of Representative Andre Carson's idea of serious and respectful public discourse.
However, I have at times in my life of being credibly accused of 'crossing the line'. So in light of that, I'll drop the invective-- invective, again, voiced and owned by Andre Carson.

One more things about Steve Jobs. Most people can't envision anything past their morning dump and coffee. The thing was Jobs could do both those things and envision the future.
You know, as I read gushing praise like this I have to supress an instinctual snarky reaction. I think it is because in Job's case, rather than recognize it immediately as a eulogy for the dearly departed, for a second there I had it confused for Wednesday.

So - he's one of many inventors who upgraded the abacus. That's nice and all, but ultimately - it's a consumer product, not exactly something that makes the world better.
"Consumer electronics is what allows us to deplete the power of elitist information brokers concerned with consolidating power through control of knowledge."
Um, you might wanna check the levels of power and bank balances of the elitist information brokers over the last 30 years - they've gained; we've lost.
"His line of computers undoubtedly ushered IBMs entry into the market they otherwise thought was worthless."
Again, that's nice and all, but so what? He made nice gadgets; Trump builds big hotels and such - they both have their uses, but neither are quite on par with say, Jonas Salk

Compared to past inventors like Edison, Jobs is small potatoes. But he made the world a better, more enjoyable place. Partly this just show the smallness of our times. Radical breakthroughs like Edisons' inventions just don't seem to happen anymore. Our stagnant era means we focus more on spit and polish and usability.
Well it certainly describes a mood, but it's kind of bullshit. They had light, home and portable, just not electric (which, turns out, isn't free either). They also had electric lightbulbs, just not widespread distribution. Other people invented things like arc-lights. Tesla and others made the distribution possible.
Edison made electric lighting a little better for his involvement.
Meanwhile: Luke Skywalker hands.
Have you seen what they are doing in labs now with prosthetics? Robotic limbs you control by will? Slap on some realistic synthetic skin - no, screw that, some crazy bitch in Europe I think is trying to combine human skin with spider silk at a genetic level to make bulletproof real artifical human skin.
Also there's a guy that grew rat neurons in a petri dish around electrodes, and then tought the petri-dish-rat-brain to fly a flight simulator.
We've sent ion drives into space.
The US military is now in the process of deploying Japanese MECHA robotic exoskeletons.
Let's see Edison do that shit.

This "decision" by Palin is welcome.
Now we will see if the Republican primary voters have learned anything in the last four years. If not it will be Romney.

I continued to support Gov Palin as one of the candidates I would vote for until she used her position in at Fox News to snipe at other conservative candidates -- without taking the heat herself. Unpardonable to me. Now that she is out, I wish her well in supporting the many candidates who will be running to limit this voracious federal governnment ruled by bureaucratic Robber Barons.
I will double my now weak resentment toward her if she endorses anyone until the last primaries. Trust the voters to figure this out with thorough vetting by everyone involved -- minus the leftist media.
Unfortunately, the only one of three main candidates -- Romney, Perry, Cain -- who has any chops at seriously limiting government reach, regulations, and spending is Gov Perry, and this is over 11 years. While I admire Herman Cain, a businessman's job is to make a profit; that is not the job of government. Why does he think the Federal Reserve does not need auditing? 9-9-9 is too much of "a plan" like all other businessmen can miraculously tout until it is clear that it does not work. We need someone who acts to limit goverment, someone who can say NO.
I was furious at consevatives who stayed home and refused to vote for McCain last time. They let a radical marxist/Chicago mafia-type/unvetted incompetent take over the White Hous. ,But I will be damned if I will mark the ballot for a softer, sweeter version of a radical marxist this time. No Mitt Romney for me, ever.

These people have a bigger megaphone and far more influence than what they deserve. To them this is all about the next job, and for some it is a game.
To us, it is our lives.
So, I am sorry she isn't running; but over the last week or two I have noticed people like Jim Nolte also supporting other candidates, so I figure people like Nolte got the heads up.
One thing people should ask themselves is this: If Palin was destroyed by the media, the GOP establishment, and the democrats, how do you think we will fare with our eventual nominee?
It seems to me that the failure to defend Palin (by our side) will embolden these people and we will have a harder time because of it. I suggest everyone be prepared to fight in the trenches.
Now to go to war with the army we have. I will support whoever wins the nomination, although I hope it is Perry or Cain.

Romney is very troublesome. He's a guy that would require very strong constitutional conservatives in Congress to keep a leash on him.

All of us have to do some soul searching. It's not about what we want.
It's about what is good for the country.
When you go in that voting booth, you have to choose who will do the best for the country. Obama isn't it.
And if you stay home and refuse to vote, you will have to realize you didn't help the country.
We seldom get the candidates we want. We have to choose the one we think is the best of the field. That's the way the system operates.
Hope you reconsider.

Again, I am more firmly in the "anyone but Romney" mode in the primary. I will stick with Perry and Cain as my plan A & B. Romney people seem to be comfortable with the liberal talking points and smear tactics. We have seen that repeatedly already wrt their attack on Perry (SS and the phone stone-gate). The upcoming debate arrangement is insanely stupid as pointed out earlier today. It looks like the Rep party establishment is in bed with the liberal media to undermine conservative candidates and conservatism in general. The best case scenario is that they still fear or try to kiss up to these radical leftists. The worst case is that they are more comfortable with these leftists than with the conservative base. In either case, I am done with the Rep establishment. Looks like they are more interested in stabbing the conservatives than taking it to the left. I hope Palin now can help take it to the Rep establishment and the Obama progressive fascist machine.

If we are ever going to get a handle on this terrible situation in our country, ordinary people have to step up and wrest control from the scumbag elites. Whether that is organizing as precinct chairs or running for school board or whatever you can do.
As Milton Friedman said, we can't hope for good people to do the right thing always, we have to structure things so bad people are compelled to do the right thing against their normal tendencies.Or something like that.
As the Offspring song goes, I don't know much but I know shit is fucked up!
The only way for it to be unfucked up is for normal people to get in these fuckers' faces and demand change. It is a lot of responsibility but that's our American tradition, isn't it?

That the field is still in flux tells me that we are far from a nominee, no matter what the talking heads and bundlers would like to think. Because Republican voters are still dissatisfied, Sarah still has the ability to keep the fire burning and influence the focus of the race. I don't have a bet for any of the current top three, but none of them will make it to the nomination as they stand now. Conflict sharpens the mind and they all have some seriously fuzzy notions. Because of the Tea Party and Sarah, those notions won't be negotiated in back rooms, but will have to be dealt with in public forums. The people are demanding a solid political philosophy before they vote. The Republican establishment still can't wrap their brains around that.
I'm trying to have some sympathy for the talking heads and professional Washington insiders. They have vested their careers in knowing all there is to know about campaigns, and then when there is a sea change in how the political reality is shaped, they can get very cranky when they find themselves out of the loop. No one is asking the in the know crowd who we are to vote for this time, we are making that determination ourselves. It's going to be horribly messy, but I'm too angry to start backing off now. Thanks Sarah.

Ain't no Xena, warrior princess gonna ride out of the North and save our bacon.
If they won't do what we want them to then they're gone.
First up is John "weeping Boner" Boehner for not even making an attempt at voiding the scoamf's "Screwing With Health Care" bill.
Second is some demos to Romney that although the elites, the MFM and the money people don't mind his mendaciousness, we're not so impressed. He thinks we've got no where to go so let's show him WE can put a candidate in reach of him and Obama WITHOUT the big bucks.
We want him taking office with a pledge to annul the Health Care Act. OR ELSE.
Cain has a shot but he's got to stop shooting from the hip like he's talking to his black employees. What goes over good with them doesn't impress white folks.
I'd like to see Sarah use her money and popularity to get/keep Romney honest and conservative. Cause I hate to say it but it's looking like he'll be the nominee.

Good for her. That poor woman has been put through enough, and responded with a courage few of her detractors here would have shown if they went through 1% of the public bashing she has. That's one reason I liked her, she's got guts. But she probably couldn't have won, and she definately shouldn't subject herself to the outrages she'd have to endure.
She's done enough already. How many people have been awakened to the MSM duplicity by their ridiculous coverage of her? Many, I'd bet, and that's a good thing. She's kept O off balance for the last two years, and is really the only person who did.
It's probably going to be Romney, but after all the SP supporters lick their wounds, maybe they'll refocus on what really matters, i.e. Congressional and Statewide races. Gonna need some people in Congress to keep Romney in check (assuming he wins), and the future of the Country will be decided by what happens in the States.
Build a strong base for a bottom up reform movement, and good things could happen. Top down, not so much.

Looks like I'll be sticking with Cain.
