Ensign would be the 8th Senator to announce he's not running for reelection in 2012. 5 Democrats, including Lieberman and now 1 3 Republicans.
Ensign was facing an uphill climb in the GOP primary where he's consistently been trailing Rep Dean Heller by double digits.
UPDATE: He's not leaving before his term is up.

I don't think it was anything all that horrible, but its never about what's actually going on, its getting that seed of doubt in there, backing off from the original accusation, and then just going "she's coocoo you know"

Harry Reid wasn't going to lose to anybody. Reid is very powerful in NV.
It was a pipe dream to think we could be rid of him.
No matter who he ran against in 2010, Reid was going to get at least 51% of the votes by any means necessary.

I agree. I wanted her to win, but she had her chance. If she couldn't win in 2010 in a wave election against a relatively unpopular democrat, then she isn't winning in 2012 when more people turn out for presidential elections.

I disagree. I think the idea of cutting (actual cuts, not just cutting the rate of growth) spending is so foreign to our Senators, that they have to have a special committee just so that those on it will remember what they're supposed to be doing.

Angle lost. She lost. Even if their was massive fraud, she lost by such a margin that it wouldn't have mattered.
She lost by some 40,000 votes.
And stop with that polling BS, the last poll before election day had Reid winning with 51% and he won with 50.3%
I wanted Angle to win, but she was a weak politician, she couldn't beat the Senate head of an extremely unpopular party in a wave election.

You are probably minimally right. (In that fraud shifted the results by maybe 1-2%) but it should have never been close enough for that to work. As it was, and as the same fraud will likely continue, we need someone we can safely push over 53-54% in a year where dem turnout is likely to be strong. Angle is not a good choice. She will likely manage her way to another marginal loss against a proven moderate Dem, who will go full libtard the moment they reach DC.
Remember Dems are not stuck with the Reid record this time. They can actually nominate someone likable with a moderate record.

There's 5 "candidates", and I use that in the loosest sense for 3 of them, going to Iowa for a "speed dating" event soon.
Former LA Gov. Buddy Roemer, Newt, and Santorum are non-starters.
Herman Cain is a serious dark horse candidate because he doesn't have a big history of campaigning for office.
Pawlenty is the most likely "establishment" candidate to survive the early primaries considering he hasn't done anything stupid yet to DQ himself with the rank and file like Daniels.

It tells other R candidates the field will be open early enough for them to get campaigns put together. Basically it encourages people who might think about running in an open field, but who wouldn't want to challenge an incumbent (for whatever reason) to go ahead and run.
I kind of wish we had some "Republicans only" way of getting out that kind of message, so it could look like he was getting primaried (when a bunch of contenders announce they're starting campaigns). It might convince the Dems (if even only for a little while) that they could put NV on cruise-control: which might let the Rs get a nice little head of steam built up.

Actually, the RCP average had Sandoval up by 16.7 points, and Angle up 2.7 points. Sandoval won by 11.8, Angle lost by 5.6.
So the polls were off by 5 points in the Sandoval/Reid race, and 8 points in the Angle/Reid race. Not a huge difference.

In PA, and everywhere in America, there are a group of people who do actually vote based on who they like or dislike and not just party affiliation. As was seen here in Pennsylvania a well liked Attorney General Tom Corbett was able to get moderate Democrats to vote for him, whereas a staunch conservative Pat Toomey was not. There were cross over votes for Corbett that weren't there for Toomey.
Well in Nevada, there were people who apparently liked Sandoval but didn't care for Angle.
It's a moot point now anyway, as she isn't even really in the running in the primaries as was pointed out above, there are several candidates above her on the list.
While I agreed with most, if not all of her fiscal ideas, it's clear she wasn't a good politician.

Pretty much my thoughts on the subject.
Leach got railroaded by the Texas Tech administration because they were upset he'd gotten them to sign him to a bigger contract than they wanted to pay for and they were looking for cause to break it. The AG in particular didn't like him.
Craig James became the trigger man for them by blowing complaints out of proportion because Leach wouldn't break his policy on transfers to give Adam James a release to play at Craig's alma mater of SMU in Dallas. Leach's well-stated policy was that he didn't give releases to anyone leaving for a school within the Big 12 or the state of Texas, BTW.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Daniels being a completely tone-deaf idiot between his "truce on social issues", his suggestion of a VAT, him talking up his "letterhead" of "thought leaders" behind him in a cycle where grassroots are a big deal, and blowing it with the Dems in the Indiana legislature, which was the final straw.

I believe, Ohio was sort of a similar but reverse situation and the outcome was better as well. Portman won the open Senate seat handily but Kasich got by in a squeaker defeating the incumbent Governor Strickland (with the wife that lives in Kentucky)

Heller has an 89% lifetime ACU and his only black marks this time around were unemployment extension votes. Given that it's Nevada at their huge unemployment rate, it's hard to argue.
