Breaking: Solyndra Raided By FBI and DoE
— Ace

Huh.

As RD says, seems like someone must have gotten a search warrant without running it by Eric Holder.

Solyndra LLC, the bankrupt solar- panel maker that was backed by the Obama administration, is being raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation today, an agency spokeswoman said.

“We’re executing a search warrant jointly” with the Department of Energy inspector general “regarding an investigation,” FBI spokeswoman Julie Sohn said of the raid at the company’s Fremont, California, headquarters offices and plant.

64 The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating allegations that the Army Corp of Engineers illegally favored Halliburton for contracts by excluding competitors from bidding on war-related work. In particular, the FBI is investigating the Army's $7 billion firefighting contract for Iraqi oil wells, which was awarded to Halliburton without competition in March of 2003. An Army whistleblower told the FBI that the line between government officials and Halliburton had become so blurred that a perception of conflict of interest existed. The conduct appears to have violated specific regulations and calls into question the independence of the contracting process. Yes I can imagine it.

Of course this is bad news. And embarrassing. To any "mere mortal", that is.

Teh Won, however, is blissfully untouched by such things as embarrassment. In ObamaWorld, it's all about hiding the bodies and redirecting the blame. I would be willing to bet money (if I had any) that he really thinks this will blow over, nobody will remember it and all will be well.

Obama is having a really bad fucking day with this news.     My conspiracy thinking is this is the Hillary crowd knifing Ceasar on the day of his big speechy thingy. It secures the evidence away from Holder under DOE control and lets them drip the painful evidence of incompetence and fraud slowly to their complient press. Bottom line, the party has decided to either kill the King or extort his behavior. Will know more as the story progresses. Oh yeah, and they will blame the whole thing of mean Republicans. SpeakerÂ’s Guests Include More than a Dozen Job Creators Who Have Run Into Government Barriers in Their Efforts to Create New American Jobs

WASHINGTON, DC (Sep House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today announced he will host more than a dozen private-sector job creators in the House gallery during President ObamaÂ’s address to a Joint Session of Congress tonight. Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-IL) recruited these job creators as part of RepublicansÂ’ effort to reach out to American employers being hampered by excessive regulations from Washington, along with House GOP Conference Secretary John Carter (R-TX) and Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

No, I don't think it is.  I think it'll kill it dead, or have no measurable impact.

Let's look at the most likely scenarios:

She does a good (heck, even a stellar job): No one sees it, and the MFM doesn't talk about it.  No real movement.

She does a mediocre job: No one sees it, and the MFM gets to take a few pot-shots at her.  Further kills her momentum (moving it to 0 or even negative).

She does a poor job: The MFM pans the performance for days, killing her chances of any forward movement.

That won't work, either.  I've read articles in which business analysts showed what a bad investment Solyndra was.  They made panels at a cost of $6.00 each, but sold them for $3.00.  In the marketplace, the competitive price was between $1.50 - $2.00.  It was stupid from the get-go and doomed to fail.

As you would expect from a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable failure.

160 How does Bachmann speaking help Obama? Someone explain this logic to me.

One of the biggest advantages to the Republicans not making a rebuttal was that it gave the MFM nothing to use to deflect from the obvious flaws of SCOAMFOTUS's speech.  They'd already played the "disrespect" card to a resounding response of "Huh?" So they didn't really have any ammunition- it would have forced them either to ignore the speech completely (bad for Obama) or actually try to sell his "plan" on its purported merits (worse for Obama).

By providing a rebuttal, Michelle gives the MFM their way to deflect criticism by talking about her rebuttal instead of about the plan itself.

So, unless she knocks it out of the park (at which point they're back to ignore them both completely), she (at best) prevents some harm from coming to the SCOAMF, or (at worst) actually does poorly enough to gain him some support.

Simple. We just had awful economic news, and more is coming. Obama is about to deliver a dud of a speech that has been hyped up. He's going to make a fool of himself and maybe end his presidency.

In the week before the administration awarded Solyndra with the first-ever alternative energy loan guarantee on March 20, four separate visits were logged. George Kaiser, who has in the past been labeled a major Solyndra investor as well as a Obama donor, made three visits to the 5White House on March 12, 2009, and one on March 13. Kaiser has denied any direct involvement in the Solyndra deal and through a statement from his foundation said he “did not participate in any discussions with the U.S. government regarding the loan.” But the countless meetings at the White House seem hardly coincidental. Kaiser, in fact, is responsible for 16 of the 20 meetings that showed up on the White House logs."

191 AllenG media coverage is oxygen for a campaign. I don't think she expects that it resuscitates her campaign, she just needs to stay alive until the next event. Right now based on media coverage the only real candidates are Perry and Romney. While Bachmann is not my candidate, she does bring good ideas to the table and is personable, brings some excitement to the base, and annoys the right people.

There is a very small niche of applications into which these technologies are well suited, but fueling an entire f*cking civilization to prevent an extraterrestrial invasion isn't one of the them.

Speaking of skipping the speech, have y'all discussed Harry "I look and talk like a pedophile in a Law & Order: SVU Episode" Reid's strategy to keep Republican senators from avoiding the speech?  He's scheduled Senate votes before the speech and immediately after the speech so that Senators have to stick around.

The vote before the speech is on the House-passes America Invents Act, a patent reform bill changing the U.S. from a first-to-invent to a first-inventor-to-file system.

After the speech comes the largely symbolic but contentious vote of disapproval on ObamaÂ’s authority to raise the debt ceiling by another $500 billion in accordance with the summerÂ’s debt ceiling deal.

237 Here's a nugget buried in the online story I say on the Bay Area NBC webpage:

Solyndra officials made numerous visits -- 20 -- to the White House, according to logs and reporting by The Daily Caller.

Solyndra officials in the logs included chairman and founder Christian Gronet and board members Thomas Baruch and David Prend, according to the Caller.

Hmmm... let's see if we can find out who Messrs. Gronet, Baruch and Prend gave money to in the 2010 election cycle.   A casual click of the mouse to opensecrets.org and.... voila!

Christian Gronet.... $1,000 to Barbara Boxer, liberal Democratic Senator from California.

Thomas Baruch.... $10,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Committee, $2,400 to Barney Frank, liberal Democratic Congressman from Massachusetts, among other donations.

David Prend... $1,000 to Ed Markey, liberal Democratic Congressman from Massachusetts.

Hmmm... so they are big and habitual donors to liberal Democrats.   Add that to the picture drawn by the Daily Caller recently:

Shareholders and executives of Solyndra, a green energy company producing solar panels, fundraised for and donated to the Obama administration to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Tulsa billionaire George Kaiser, a key Obama backer who raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for the presidentÂ’s election campaign, is one of SolyndraÂ’s primary investors. Kaiser himself donated $53,500 to ObamaÂ’s 2008 election campaign, split between the DSCC and Obama For America. Kaiser also made several visits to the White House and appeared at some White House events next to Obama officials.

Campaign finance records show Kaiser and Solyndra executives and board members donated $87,050 total to ObamaÂ’s election campaign.

They call this corruption where I come from.

260 I wonder how long it will take before Solyndra's financial advisor becomes a Pulitzer Prize winning economist for the New York Times?

Or ODummy's new economic adviser...

I think that TESLA has an outside chance. They have a niche market of upscale "green" cars. And the product is undeniably good, especially because nobody who buys one will be relying on it for real transportation.

262 LOL!!!! Nice try, troll. As soon as the money runs out, liberalism dies. You're just too stupid to see it. Please do a better job if you're going to troll this board. We're used to much better than you.

Don't feed 'em, Joe. They just keep hangin' around the back door when you feed 'em.

263 254 left and proud,

I am not bothered if the latinos, and "dark people" are loyal Americans....

some of them will agree with me, some won't....

you are in for a shock if you think you control the future....

I am planning on teaching my son "it is okay to have kids fuck Al Gore"...your weird angst suicide of white guilt is charming really....

your kind killed all your babies so you try to steal mine.....seeing that you are failing you are now trying to steal minority's right to choose their path for themselves through crude ugly brutal browbeating and inverted implosive self-hating race baiting by your political allies of color on their own kind.....

but as leonidas said to Xerxes:

Xerxes: There will be no glory in your sacrifice. I will erase even the memory of Sparta from the histories! Every piece of Greek parchment shall be burned. Every Greek historian, and every scribe shall have their eyes pulled out, and their tongues cut from their mouths. Why, uttering the very name of Sparta, or Leonidas, will be punishable by death! The world will never know you existed at all!

King Leonidas
: The world will know that free men stood against a tyrant, that few stood against many, and before this battle was over, even a god-king can bleed.

what stupid little tyrannical moonbats like you never grasp is this simple point....

none of this is about me, and in the grand scheme of things my life and time is unimportant other than to be served and used in the course of freedom......

the heart of all mankind yearns to be free and no matter who is on this soil in the future they will know that for a while.....until your kind decided to ape the EUrope we ran from and bring its mess here men and Women were once free to go as far as they could.

264 166 My take:

Obama's friends invested in this turd.

The original backers used the loan to recoup their personal losses, and then declared banco, leaving Obama and buddies  the taxpayers holding the empty bag.
There, FIFY.

265 @266 Any time you hear Solyndra mentioned in conversation, tell that story.

267 259 JoeJM,

if the leftbots think that particular line of reasoning and flaming will either piss us off or inspire the moderates to go for team bambi they are our best ally.....

the most they can do is hurt us for as long as it takes to run them out of town on a rail after they kill the golden goose....the wonderful thing is we can always do our best to rebuild the goose after they are where they belong....hanging on the lamp posts.....

having been hung there by the people they fool themselves into thinking they are 'helping"

Garafalo used to be sort of cute in a bookish way. But then her liberal sensitivities took full control of her body and she has turned into a shrieking harpy with armpit hair, stringy locks, and a fashion sense out of East Germany in the 60s.
Now is the time at Sprockets ven ve dance!

274 Wouldn't it be fun, if the F.B.I. turned up evidence of fraud, and SCoaMF, along with his croney Billionaire friend, were involved.

Or, is that some kind of wishful thinking?

275 Well isn't that peachy? Now no documents will be available for inspection and all comment will be "There is an active investigation".

276 Hahahahaha!

Layers upon layers of crookery with this administration.  Apparently they did not funnel enough of their stimulus money back into Democrat coffers.

"... Gibson may realize the President is bound by the rule of law. "
= = = = = =

??

Hah.  I see no indication that the concept of "Rule of Law" has ever crossed Current Occupant's mind...

And considering that The One lived and went to school in Indonesia (a "moderate" Islamic state) early on, it could be argued that he was imprinted with the Islamic thumb-your-nose-at-the-West notion that "I accept no man-made law; I submit only to Allah's law" (which has been parroted across Muslim-occupied Europe this last decade or so).

278 More on Solyndra at Zero Hedge and the Democrat money trail.

"one entity . . . somehow had managed to get priority interest to subordinated government loans to the tune of $528 million in government funding: Argonaut Ventures, and specifically one George Kaiser who just happens to be a material fund-raiser for the president."

279 Obama is a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable failure.

Posted by: steevy at September 08, 2011 11:15 AM (fyOgS)

280 I think people are missing the point, here. Some sort of overt fraud at Solyndra is the absolute best-case scenario for Obama. What makes him sound worse? “These thieves and capitalist tricksters fooled us with phony numbers, falsified documents and illegal procedures in order to scam the American people out of half a billion dollars.” OR “I foolishly game $500 million of you money to a green jobs boondoggle with a business plan that consisted of selling dollars for fifty cents and making up the loss on volume.”

Is documentation that has been seized by the FBI as evidence available for Freedom of Information Act requests as it normally would be for a government funded organization?

Why no, no it isn't.

It is either the good guys swooping in to land the docs before they are carted off or it's the bad guys swooping in to clear out any damning evidence.  Hoping the former but expecting the latter.
