Congrats to the covert lads that took him down. One of the good things about this is since they did him with guns so he knew it was coming. It was an good speech by Obama but I did notice a couple of things. In the middle of it there were a lot of "I"'s (as I ordered, I did this, etc) and it seemed he was trying to give the impression that it was only his intervention that focused the operations on clipping Bin Laden. The second thing is that he seemed to say that he called the Pakistani's after the operation. If that's the case then the Pakistani papers will be interesting tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, I think it's fair to say that if he had called them (maybe he did) before hand then Bin Laden might have done a runner back to Iran.
I suspect this will give Obama a bit of a bump in the polls but it's happening way to early for it to effect 2012.
In any event folks, hoist one for the victims of this bastard, another for the ones that took him down (that includes Obama) and finally one in the hopes that Bin Laden is currently feeling the beginning of an enternity of fire.

A hearty thank-you to all who served, but especially those who signed up right after 9-11, and because of 9-11.
I hope that in some small measure this brings satisfaction to a marine named Brian who lost both legs last week in Afghanistan. He and his dog had cleared an area of IED's the day before, and the taliban replanted more overnight.
He was scheduled to finish his tour and return back to the states this month, just a few days before he took the brunt of the IED. The dog and 4 of his fellow Marines survived with relatively minor injuries. It's a miracle Brian survived; both legs are completely gone. I am in awe of the sacrifices people like Brian have made. May OBL rot in hell.

My first thought was that I had accidentally changed the channel because I was doing laundry and other things, then saw ABC news with Osama on. My second thought was Thank God! It's not a good sign when I put on network news other than Fox. They are not responding to my emails, Fox has to get rid of some of those hosts.

Senior US administration officials, briefing journalists in a late-night teleconference, said that after 9/11 the CIA chased various leads about bin Laden's inner circle, in particular his couriers. One of these couriers came in for special attention, mentioned by detainees by his nom de guerre and said to be one of the few couriers bin Laden trusted.
But officials said they were initially unable to identify him but finally did four years ago. They did not disclose his name to reporters Sunday night.
Two years ago, the CIA found the rough location where the courier and his brother lived in Pakistan, and on August last year they narrowed it down to a compound, in an affluent area about 35 miles north of Islamabad.
They realised immediately this was no normal residence. The walls were 12-18ft high, topped with barbed wire. Access to the compound was severely restricted. The main part of the residence was three storeys high but had few windows. It was valued at about $1 million but had no phone or internet connection. It was a custom-built terrorist hideaway.
Adding to their suspicions were that the two brothers had no known source of income. The CIA learned too that there was a family living with them and that this family matched bin Laden's.
By February, the CIA was confident this was likely bin Laden's hiding place and in March Barack Obama began chairing a series of five national security meetings. At the last of these, on April 29, he gave the order to mount an operation.
The US military began planning. One of the senior administration officials said: "The high walls made this a dangerous operation." It was a surgical operation, he said, carried out by a small team and lasted only 40 minutes.
Bin Laden and three males were killed, including the courier and his brother, and bin Laden's son. Bin Laden resisted the US force and was killed in a firefight, an official said. One woman was injured while, an official said, she was being used as a shield by one of the men, and two other women were also injured.

Even if it were true that Bin Laden resisted, it would be improper for the White House to publicize the fact. They should have announced that he was cowering in terror, but was caught in crossfire. Or that after an the initial firefight his body was found with all the bullets in the back.
We normally would not lionize an enemy by saying he died fighting like a hero- but then, we don't normally have a White House sympathetic to Al-Qaeda.

I believe that part of the reason we have a difficult situation is because we made a bad judgment going into Iraq in the first place when we hadn't finished the job of hunting down bin Laden and crushing al Qaeda.....
But I do believe that we have to change our policies with Pakistan. We can't coddle, as we did, a dictator, give him billions of dollars, and then he's making peace treaties with the Taliban and militants. What I have said is we're going encourage democracy in Pakistan, expand our non-military aid to Pakistan so that they have more of a stake in working with us, but insisting that they go after these militants.
And if we have Osama bin Laden in our sights and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take them out, then I think that we have to act, and we will take them out.
We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority.
