— Ace Yeah, I wasn't posting this, but now he's issued a statement which all but confesses an affair, so:
Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault - which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults - a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public's right to know and the media's right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one's bedroom door.
Mr. Cain has alerted his wife to this new accusation and discussed it with her. He has no obligation to discuss these types of accusations publicly with the media and he will not do so even if his principled position is viewed unfavorably by members of the media.
It is interesting, and possibly even laudable, the I-won't-lie position.
Of course, the woman herself is talking on the news and likely has proof (email, etc.) of the relationship, so lying is probably not really even an option.
So it's really not laudable. It's just standard, now that I think about it.
Thanks to JohnE for that statement.
Whoops! Sorry, double-posted Drew.
Dang.

I'm not so sure. To me it reads as a non-denial for the purpose of not giving the satisfaction of a true denial.

So he personally denied it after saying he wouldn't discuss it? Or did he deny it on CNN before he issued a statement which said "He has no obligation to discuss these types of accusations publicly with the media and he will not do so even if his principled position is viewed unfavorably by members of the media."

When Cain and his campaign were confronted with sexual harassment allegations during his tenure at the National Restaurant Association, they declined to respond directly for 10 days. Cain responded preemptively to this latest accusation during an interview with CNNÂ’s Wolf Blitzer less than two hours before the Atlanta station was set to air its report.
“This individual’s going to accuse me of an affair for an extended period of time. I don’t want to specify because I don’t know what’s in the story. Secondly, it is someone that I know who is an acquaintance that I thought was a friend,” Cain told Blitzer.
“It was obviously someone who was supposed to be a friend but obviously they didn’t see it as a friendship,” he added.
Cain said he had not had an affair, or had sex with the woman.

Even during his rise, it was clear Cains massive flaws meant he had essentially zero chance of making through the gauntlet to the nomination.
We also agree that he potentially is a liablity to the movement sorta like the witch lady. What we disagreed about and you have never once responded to was how best to handle his exit.
-You have always wanted him out ASAP. Didn't care if it paralleled the medias strategy.
-I perceived right away that since conservatives are going to be unhappy about Romney (plenty justified) that it would be much smarter to handle Cain thus:
1. Not have Republicans joining with the leftist media to bring down Cain.
2. Leave Conservatives to leave Cain in their own way and time.
I have always thought your approach to Cain would be more befitting if his poll numbers were leading 2 weeks before the primaries. I think have been quite well proven that we did have time to let Conservatives go through their process of abandoning Cain in their own time and way.

I don't care if it's true or not (as far as the race is concerned- obviously for his marriage and the damage it does to his reputation I care). What I care about is (again) his obvious mishandling of the issue.
So, apparently, a day or so ago (timeline, anyone?) he denies it (before the accusation has even been aired). Now, he releases an infamous "non-denial denial," which, among other things, says he won't "discuss" it. Why not just stick with the denial? "No, it didn't happen."
I'll say it again: the accusation sounds week (why not bring it up a couple of weeks ago?), but the "denial" reeks of guilt as well.

She showed us some of her cell phone bills that included 61 phone calls or text messages to or from a number starting with 678. She says it is Herman Cain's private cell phone. The calls were made during four different months-- calls or texts made as early as 4:26 in the early morning, and as late as 7:52 at night. The latest were in September of this year.
“We've never worked together,” said White. “And I can't imagine someone phoning or texting me for the last two and a half years, just because.”
We texted the number and Herman Cain called us back. He told us he "knew Ginger White" but said these are "more false allegations." He said she had his number because he was "trying to help her financially.”link

Ooooh, that's comforting!
Maybe in the New Age, where a stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure can be elected without anyone knowing a damn thing about his past -- except what Bill Ayres told us -- this qualifies as a pass for The Newt, but I think he has a hell of a lot of crapweaselry that disqualifies him, too.
Does being a Great American and True Conservative (sometimes) mean he doesn't have to be honest and moral? That doesn't work for me.
No Cain, no Mutt Romney, no Newt.
Misstatements, Tardasil and misinterpreted actions in Texas notwithstanding, Perry sure as hell looks like the only way to go.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who charged Republican presidential primary rival Newt Gingrich with proposing “amnesty” for certain illegal immigrants, took a nearly identical position in a 2006 Bloomberg interview, saying some foreigners who entered the U.S. illegally should be allowed to remain and gain legal status.
Romney, who at the time hadn’t yet declared his first presidential candidacy for 2008, told reporters and editors in Bloomberg News’s Washington bureau that the 11 million immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally “are not going to be rounded up and box-carred out.” Law-abiding people who pay taxes, learn English and don’t rely on government benefits should be allowed to “get in line” to apply for citizenship, he said.
“We need to begin a process of registering those people, some being returned, and some beginning the process of applying for citizenship and establishing legal status,” Romney said during the March 29, 2006, session.

Something about cheating on his wife who had cancer, and even had a kid during the primary process.. which the media covered up. No, no bias or anything detected.
I'd like the two stooges who appear on fox news watch (used to be a good show, then the lefty panel members went full partisan retard), anyway, the two stooges who always say "wait, wait a minute! liberal bias? ha! That sounds like some kind of wacky conspiracy theory there! haha"
That show is so sickening now that I sometimes watch in disbelief.. wondering if i'm in some alternate reality, or even mentally ill. Nope. Turns out, the panelists are. Its funny when Colmes is on the show.. his hyperbolic defenses of all things liberal are so over the top that not even the host pays attention to what he's saying .. they just move on. HAHA
The whole 'Liberal bias? That there sounds like some wacky conspiracy theory! beam me up scottty!" thing is so maddening, I wish someone would rebut it, or just hit the offensive idiot over the head repeatedly with a chair until the whole studio is covered in blood. That line makes me sick. Its so obviously the last defense when you've lost an argument when 'racist!' doesn't fit the context.

That's a somewhat de-bunked thing that was put out there. Cain spent $1 million of his own money trying to get blacks to vote pro-life, apparently. It's true he garbled his response on abortion, but I think he's basically a "personally opposed, but..." flavor of guy. At least as good as Mitt.

Social Issues are pointless for this election. As far as I am concerned, concede all the social issue to the Left's position, prevent the narative from being focused on them, because that is how the Left always pulls these victory's out. The population always gets sucked in these topics, and default to the Left anyway, so confuse them, but just taking the same positions.
We have bigger Fish to Fry. The social issues are stuff we can fight over when we are Fat an Happy....right now we are starved and scared.

Perry's stumbles have primarily come when he's attacked from the right.
As governor of Texas he's taken on Obama in a way that none of them (except Bachmann) have.

Cain lied about it too, today, on CNN.
He presented himself, in part, as a good, moral, Christian man, a pastor, a gospel singer, etc. He used his wife for her public support after receiving 4 sexual harassment allegations. And now this. Cain is finished, but millions of dollars richer due to campaign contributions and book sales (including by his campaign itself).
Those who supported Cain based on his character: he simply was NOT a good guy.

This doesn't really surprise me, to be honest
In fact, I suspect that this was the real motivation between Herman Cain's only official accuser -- ie, they had a consentual affair and she decided to accuse him of sexual harrassment to get back at him for breaking it off. It was really the only way I could reconcile the specific amount of detail she gave regarding the hotel stay with her attempts to flirt with him not six months ago and the unbelievable parts of her story (specifically, the "stimulus package" line. At the time the line would have been uttered, in 1997, that joke simply would not have made any sense -- kinda like hearing a Bryan Adams song in a movie about the Robin Hood or the Three Musketeers).

O.K., but let's just face it. Conservatives are not going to get what they want this time around period. The best bet is for Newt to take the Conservative momentum, and not screw us over. Romney is soft, easily foldable, but I think will hold the line on some issues that are in line with Conservatives.

I really don't understand why they didn't have an obligation to turn it over to the police. There'd be no worries about lawsuits for doing that. Frankly, if it was authentic, they sure as shit were morally obligated to do something about it and if it was not authentic, then that was also evidence of a different type of crime (possible extortion by the accuser).

However, the world is inconceivably worse in so many ways. The currency and middle east crisis under Carter will seem as nothing compared to what has been sewn and is irreversibly growing today.
Realistically even McCain or Reagan could have stopped the middle east from rising up against western funded tyrants.. I'm the first one to say that I love the brutal snarkitude of the moron horde. But only when there's a common truth or facts backing it up. Like leftards suck the big one. That's a common truth. Or that Barky is a SCOAMF. We've all got facts to back that up.
But to tear apart a conservative who's on our side from just accusations or hearsay is defeating the goal that many of us want; a conservative WH and congress. We can't do that if we insist on eating our own.

For me? this is important because its a matter of character.
Why should I believe your VOW to God, during the oath of Office, if you've broken your Marriage Vows?
As we've seen with Obama... the wrong person as President can really wreck this country... as there are very few actual Limits put on his power... and ALL of those limits come from the Federal Government...
ergo... for me, the character of the candidate IS very important.

Personally, I think this whole campaign season has had far too much jumping all over the candidates -- all of the candidates (except one, frankly) -- based on allegations and rumors and generic missteps. But I don't think Cain has gotten it any worse than most of them. The result of this feeding frenzy has been to play into the Romney campaign strategy, which does not make me happy.
But a woman has apparently come out on the record with allegations she claims she can prove, so covering the story -- particularly scrutinizing Cain's handling of it (in light of how badly he's handled some other things) -- seems relevant to me.

Well, whether her story is true or not, there's something funky about a woman making these claims who has lost a stalking and defamation case before. One her business partner brought against her and won.
Face it, Cain was never going to win the nom, but this is just the beginning of the nasty crap to come. Ole Herm won't be the only one that will face whatever they can dig up, lie about, and use to defame.

Check the link at HA. She has phone records that include 61 calls and text messages to and from Cain's personal cell phone number over the space of 4 months. The reporter doing the story sent a text to the number, Cain called back.
Of course, he was "just trying to help her financially". At 4am. 61 times.
If she has a checkered past... what do you expect from a woman who knowingly had an affair with a married guy? Rich women don't need sugar daddies.

Because Cain has worn his Baptist minister badge on his sleeve this entire campaign and Newt has not. And, Cain has had to fend off (at least) a couple of sexual harassment allegations in his career, so that calls into question his conduct with women.
IIRC during the first debate (the one where Bachmann mentioned her two dozen kids every five seconds and all the rest of them went on and on about their home lives) Newt kept his mouth shut. He has not pretended to be the paragon of virtue. How could he? Plus, he has apparently reformed and become a more religious person in his personal life.
