— Open Blogger Since Cantor popped up in the news yesterday in a way that detracted from Obama... Today He Must Be Destroyed.
Look at the references to Cantor in this article - almost everyone is, at best, subtly negative.
Eric Cantor has become both a key player and big pain
Big Pain.
"Eric, don't call my bluff," ... a dramatic back-and-forth with the Virginia Republican that made some in Cantor's party wince.
Some winced!
Cantor, second-in-command to Speaker John Boehner who is widely assumed to aspire to the House's top job.
A backstabber!
... whether the self-styled "young gun" had shot his own credibility in a roomful of political veterans.
Credibility = shot. The rest of the room = veterans.
...explaining that he was only trying to understand a difference in spending cut proposals.
trying to understand. He's stupid.
In contrast to Wednesday's tiff, the White House meeting Thursday was described as "composed and polite" ... Cantor did not speak during the day's session, ...
The adults shut him up.
... has made a career of confrontation with a brash Southern style
career of confrontation = asshole. Southern style = raaaaacist.
... has strained his relationship with Boehner.
He's a monster! Can't get along with Boehner.
Cantor is building support among the no-compromise faction of Republicans ...
He's friends with the crazy people! Why can't they compromise and do whatever Obama wants?
By all accounts, he has almost no hobbies
A psycho.
His tough partisanship in the 2004 campaign...
Ooooh. He doesn't like to get along.
In 2007, it was Cantor who offered an amendment to draw attention to then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi's request for a "luxury jetliner," ... Pelosi's staff staunchly denied that, saying the House sergeant-at-arms had requested that she fly in the same military aircraft as her predecessor, former Speaker Dennis Hastert.
I seem to recall there was more to it than that!
But their styles are very different, and their staffs are not close. Boehner is a cigarette-smoking, golf-playing dealmaker from a blue-collar background who is regarded with deep affection by members on both sides of the aisle.
See? Boehner = ONE OF US. Cantor = Almost as bad as Palin!
Pressed by Cantor this week for details, Obama said he had given them to Boehner.
Cantor isn't worthy to receive info from The One.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, initially impressed with Cantor's honesty but now "disappointed" by his behavior ...
Cantor should be put down like a rabid dog.
Reid said through a spokesman that Cantor had been "nothing but a disruptive force over the course of these negotiations."
In other words, he has tried to negotiate.
I'll hand it to the writer, Laurie Kellman, that was a smooth hatchet job. She doesn't have to worry about toiling in the underground sugar caves!

"But he doesn't have anything on!" said Representative Cantor.
"Good Lord, let us hear the voice of an innocent Congressman!" said the citizen and whispered to another what the Congressman had said.
"A Congressman said that he doesn't have anything on!"
Finally everyone was saying, "He doesn't have anything on!"
Emperor Obama shuddered, for he knew that they were right, but he thought, "The procession must go on!" He carried himself even more proudly, and the chamberlains walked along behind carrying the train that wasn't there.

If they were not so full of shit and obvious about their collusion, they really would be worth 15 points for the Democrats in an election.

09:39 15Jul11 RTRS-S&P SAYS COULD LOWER U.S. RATINGS WITHIN 3 MONTHS
We may lower the long-term rating on the U.S. by one or more notches into the 'AA' category in the next three months, if we conclude that Congress and the Administration have not achieved a credible solution to the rising U.S. government debt burden and are not likely to achieve one in the foreseeable future.
Yeah, so um, upping the debt limit without substantial (economically suicidal, I'm told) cuts means higher interest rates by the end of Q3. As substantial (compared to the current deficit) cuts are not even being discussed, well, I'll leave that to Kratos.

I have been reading that McConnell and Reid are negotiating and that they are developing a plan which includes potentially appointing a board of reps and senators to help make cuts. (McConnell is in the process of encouraging his colleagues to be supportive.) Meanwhile, the House is still intent on passing their "cut, cap, and balance" legislation next week and they still dislike McConnell's proposal. So you have McConnell trying to get the Senate GOP to go one way and the House GOP has their own approach. Between the two, though, you really get the sense that the House GOP is far more determined.

Laurie is a liar. Note that stuff about the "House sergeant at arms had asked her to fly on the same militaryk aircraft as {former Speaker Denny Hastert}"
Now she may be so damn dumb that "all those military jets look alike" and all that.
But facts are facts: Denny Hastert flew home to Chi Town in a Gulfstream. It's a nice corporate jet--but the biggest version of it seats maybe 15 people--and confgured as an executive style jet maybe 10 or 12. And corporate executives routinely fly Los Angeles to New York in them non stop with no problem.
So the military did offer a Gulfstream to Pelosi to fly from D.C. to her home district in San Francisco.
But that was not good enough for the taxidermist's mistake. Nope she worried that "it might not have the range to fly nonstop to San Francisco from D.C." Well bullshit--Gulfstreams regularly fly New York to Paris or New York to Madrid.
What the Pelosi palooza wanted was more seats so she could ferry her worthless family, friends and staff around using up so much booze that they had $100,000 liqour bills.
She demanded--and she got--a frickin 757--a commercial airliner design that seats 200+ people. Little Laurie Cockholster may not recognize the difference between a Gulfstream and a 757--"ooh they're big airplanes and they all look alike to me". Cantor was right to point out that Pelosi was being goddamned extravagant with her demand for a 757.
What the hell Pelosi didn't need an airplane anyway, she could have just hopped on her broom and flown solo to SFO.

"Big Pain." "Some winced!"
He 'afflicts the comfortable', as all good pseudo-journalists and faux-revolutionaries should!
"A backstabber!"
He seeks to ensure that the person in charge is the strongest and most flexible. He's survival of the fittest and evolution in action!
"Credibility = shot. The rest of the room = veterans."
A lack of credibility with veterans who have no credibility of their own has a certain cache of its own.
"...explaining that he was only trying to understand a difference in spending cut proposals."
He's magnanimous and diplomatic.
"In contrast to Wednesday's tiff, the White House meeting Thursday was described as "composed and polite" ... Cantor did not speak during the day's session, ..."
Politeness in situations where it's not appropriate is not a sign of strength. By causing that 'tiff', Cantor proves his strength.
"... has made a career of confrontation with a brash Southern style"
He takes no prisoners and is committed to his cause. That's commendable in a time where folks have no commitment.

The meme that strikes me as most ridiculous is "no hobbies."
What serious political journalist ever posed a question on "what are your hobbies" to a candidate ? Assuming it were true with respect to Cantor (which I doubt), is a lack of hobbies some sort of psychological red flag ?
Is the fact that Obama spends Memorial Day and other major events wrapped in his golf hobby rather than doing his job to be taken as a plus ?
Generation Slack has found its rallying cry at last. Hobbyists of the World Unite - Cast Off Your Chains.

Great news ...
(Reuters Health) - Black men are half as likely to die at any given time if they're in prison than if they aren't, suggests a new study of North Carolina inmates.
The black prisoners seemed to be especially protected against alcohol- and drug-related deaths, as well as lethal accidents and certain chronic diseases.
But that pattern didn't hold for white men, who on the whole were slightly more likely to die in prison than outside, according to findings published in Annals of Epidemiology.
... so Obama would be better off in prison ?

I don't see why he's even moving on this. Politico (yeah, I know) interviewed GOP House members RE the idea yet again tonight and they're still throwing cold water on it. Tom Rooney (a member of the whip team) was quoted as saying, “Everybody I’ve talked to over here says, ‘No way’”. He also strongly dislikes the proposal himself. Likewise, RSC chairman Jim Jordan is dead-set against it. Rep. Ryan is quoted elsewhere as saying he's "not a fan" because it denies Congress the power to cut spending. (And so on and so forth.) So how do McConnell and Reid think they're ever going to pass the thing?

*May be some personal anger involved there, as I hate Norfolk and really like Charleston, and thought the Norfolk Navy needed to be scaled down in lieu of closing the Charleston Navy Base. I dislike the way we have concentrated our Navy in only two major ports on each coast. It would not require a genius to figure out how to nullify our ability to project power overseas with a few convenient LNG tanker explosions.

He apparently didn't say anything. The only two people we're told said anything was Boehner and Obungler. Boehner supposedly told Obama that the constantly changing plan still does nothing to address the crisis. At some point, Obungler warned Congress that they have 24-36hrs to give him something (after respective conference/caucus meetings) and that failure to do so would result in consideration of Plan B. Conicidentally, only the Senate Dems and the WH know what Plan B is.

Some Senate Dems have said that the results of what Reid and McConnell negotiate is their Plan B, which is McConnell's proposal plus (presumably the Dems' idea) of a congressional commission that would consider spending cuts and possibly tax increases. But I'm sure there's lots of small print that the rest of the Senate has not yet been told. Then you consider that the WH is also involved, which complicates the matter. Are they endorsing the Senate Dems on this one or do they have something else up their sleeves?

You know if he had any hobbies, they'd say something like:
"By many accounts, he likes to fritter his time away on:
a. The Golf Course (oops, maybe they wouldn't pick that one!)
b. meaningless hours running on a treadmill
c. arranging the hair and wardrobes of his extensive doll collection.
With all the time spent on his frivolous hobbies during the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, unnamed sources vouch that Eric Cantor is conspicuously absent when the House is in session. Some of his colleagues, who wish to remain off the record, complain that Eric's time spent on hobby X have left him unprepared and caught flat footed for many important meetings. 'We don't think he understands the seriousness of his job, complained one concerned aide. We think he is completely unfit to do his job. He needs to either give up his obsession with hobby X and do his job that the people elected him to do, or he needs to do the right thing and resign.'"

“I am willing to work with everybody, including Eric Cantor, to solve problems. My relationship with all the leaders has been cordial, it has been professional.”
They also detail another incident:
CantorÂ’s emergence as a leader in the talks seems to have riled the president, who reportedly snapped at the No. 2 Republican on two different occasions this week.
Another sharp exchange reportedly happened during TuesdayÂ’s negotiating session.
According to media reports, Cantor challenged Obama to show him the outline of his “grand bargain” for $4 trillion in deficit savings on paper.
“Frankly, your Speaker has it,” Obama shot back. “Am I dealing with him, or am I dealing with you?”

Funny thing. If you are a Republican and you like to golf (like the Bushes did), you are an elite out of touch country club Republican. If you are a Democrat and like to golf (Obama), you are lauded for enjoying the great outdoors and just trying to get a respite from the heavy stress of being the Executive in Chief.
If you are a Republican and you don't have any hobbies, you are criticized and deemed weird. If you are a Democrat, and you don't have any hobbies, you are someone who is dedicated and married to your job.
I hate the double standards. It drives me nuts.

Aren't these the same people who tell us there's nothing wrong with being gay and would crucify any Republican who called someone a "closet queen" (e.g. Coulter's "faggot" reference to Edwards) ?
I don't often make a hobby of this but every month or so I like to rail against prog-left bigotry on Yahoo.
Call it my "hobby."

He was likely trying to exploit the Boehner/Cantor rivalry by parroting the mocking attitudes found on such sites like Politico. Cantor had indeed told some sites that cover the Hill that Boehner should share more information about the debt talks. Since then, the Conference has reported that Boehner has been better about keeping them informed, but the Dems are still salivating over the prospect of driving a permanent wedge.

The muddled nature of the joint McConnell/Reid proposal likely appeals to him, as do the possibilities. It supposedly contains $1.5T/10yrs in spending cuts, all of to which he has agreed. So there would be no surprises outside of this congressional commission. Signing onto a joint proposal would also pressure the House to fall in line and it would also give him the upper-hand. But I still don't see this passing muster with the Senate GOP Conference. Even if they are whipped enough that they agree to vote for it, the strong opposition by the House (including almost everyone in the leadership) would be difficult to overcome.

I'm listening to the rewind now; one thing Mark leaves out is how the wheezing fuck fell a couple months ago while jogging or jerking off in public or something; and how his already hideous mug was even more disfigured when he'd appear in front of the cameras with his buddy, Chuckie Sleaze, propping him up with his hand up his ass.

Help me out. Who does Mitch McConnell look like? I can't quite place it, but he looks like somebody else who was famous once.
You're thinking of Punxatawney Phil, the famous groundhog.

Very strange that Cantor seems to be taking the hardline on this. Previous maneuvers show that he isn't this conservative.
Is this a good cop/bad cop play that is going on. It would be great if that were the case and Boehner and Cantor were playing the media.

The differences between a journalist and a liberal troll:
1. The journalist gets paid
No, they all get paid but the journalist must use his real name.

I can't believe the media really thinks we are so stupid as to fall for this new boogeyman stuff on Cantor. They are about as subtle as a train wreck with this.
They utterly failed at every other attempt to personalize their differences with Republicans and make a cartoon out of somebody. They tried it with Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Rand Paul, John Boehner, and now Eric Cantor.
You know what America is saying? Who the fuck is Eric Cantor?
